As a Guyanese person, I am biased, very biased, totally biased, but I take pride in ordering here because the food is superb and you really get your money's worth. When I ordered roti, it came in a big portion, like two serving sizes for only three dollars, and it was so flaky and fluffy. I loved it. The rest of the food was great too and very well priced. You can order a small tea, and I got some mithai that was soft, airy, and just perfect. I really loved it. The whole experience had such a good feeling. Of course, I am biased, but the service was great and the atmosphere felt authentically Guyanese, which I love. I came here during Diwali, so it was a festive time full of good energy. I would definitely recommend visiting during a holiday, like Diwali or a Guyanese national celebration, when the vibe is especially joyful. read more

I was very disappointed with my recent online order from Tropical Isle Roti Shop & Bakery. The aloo pie was thick and dried out, the fish cake was excessively oily, and the roti did not appear freshly made. Given that I spent over $200 on this order, the quality was unacceptable and did not reflect the price point. read more

I stop here on my way home at least once a week. Great Aloo pie and doubles at a fair price. It's hard to compete with the big name shop down the road . But this place is still really good. Be aware. Parking is tough but that's not their fault. read more

Hassar curry (fish curry) second time having this dish and it did not disappoint. To be able to buy this dish from a restaurant is a treat because most people cooks this at home. Hard to cook this when cooking for one. Dish also comes with a boiled egg. It's really a treat and considered a delicacy in Guyana. read more

I was told about this place last week and I was super excited to try it. I went online and saw that the website was great. Menu was listed, delivery and pick up options were available. I got even more excited. I placed a big order for curb side pickup. The third party vendor for this was the company toast which I have had terrible luck with but I put the order in anyway. I placed the order at 1130 for a 130 pick up. I gave them an additional 30 mins. When I arrived, the app told me to click a link to indicate that I am here. I did so. I waited outside for 8-10 mins. Nothing. I went inside and asked about my order. They had no idea what I was talking about. I pulled the order up from my phone and the women read the order and looked at me. I asked if it was the right place. They said yes. But they did not get the order. I asked if they could prep the meal and bring it outside to my car since there is no parking in the area (another reason why I was excited about the curb side option.) I waited 35 mins. Went back inside. They said they had to get one more item. I asked for water. She said to grab one from the fridge. I confirmed that they'd bring it to my car. I was illegally parked and my kids were with me. I went back inside at the 45 min mark. The food was ready. I was told that she was waiting for me to come inside to pay the dollar for the water. My order came out to $90. I waited almost an additional hour for the food and she charged me the dollar for water. I was displeased with the service. I should have cancelled my order when I got there and they did not have it. The doubles were good. The aloo pie was dry. The roti skin was good. dhal was good. Corned mutton was good. The eggplant was bland. Curried potatoes were bland. The tandoor chicken was dry. I ordered a lot of food. Service was bad bad bad. I will not be returning. read more

The guy doesn't understand to get the tray before he serves you, then fills the container full of rice without asking if you want a whole tray of rice. Oh my god the chicken patties are the best! Not too much pastry and filled to the brim with ground chicken so moist not dry. The cassava balls and egg ball are delicious. Bake and saltfish, doubles are also my go to for me and my fellow Guyanese teachers. Customer service is quality so sweet and courteous. Whenever I head to JFK or return from JFK, I always make it a point to stop here for some good Trinidadian food! Their food is super delicious and always on point from curry goat to oxtail. I especially love their roit because it is not oily like most places. Instead, it's chewy to the bite and always pipping hot. Their doubles is also not to miss. It's two flat fried dough smack in the middle with chickpea curry. The curry is a little sweet but balance off nicely with their hot sauce. As for as convenience, I like that they are right outside the Lefferts train station so you don't have to walk far. As I was looking for a lunch to go I noticed this place sells doubles. I went in and asked the price. $2.50. I got two. I was asked if I wanted them with everything. I said yes. I'm not sure what everything included besides the normal chickpeas plus they put some hot and spicy sauce on it. I doubt anything else went on them. They were ready within 5 minutes. When I got to eat it the bread was soft similar to a Trinidadian buss up shut roti. The chickpea curry was flavorful even without the sauce. read more

Tropical Isle food are usually fresh most of the times, they tend to spoil faster due to mixing old food with new or the day old food to sell in the morning. Once brought food to carry for lunch around 8am by 12/1 pm my duck and goat curry was gone only thing I got good was the roti. Their cassava ball, egg ball are not daily fresh but only until it's finished, inspections dates not true! Only bread and pastries are fresh compared to majority. Staffs: Rude! Talks about other customers! Their is a manager name Jenny and a cashier Bobby-ji. The lady absolutely obnoxious with customers and other co workers. Yells at her co workers, let them do everything while she passes order and Bobby-ji rude man, curses customers and speak rude to staffs. The girls and boys should be sacred of how they speak like if they are not human! The owner: (I am usually there seldom for the bread) so I see him a lot, as a owner he doesn't treats his staff right which is disgusting to his business since they're the ones who is taking care of it when he's not around. Spoke to a young man the other day yelled on him I'm front of customers... that's just a low behavior could have done it in private sir. A young woman, probably new, over heard she trying to explain her manager taught her how to do a task, without listening to her yells while customers are in there. This is just embarrassing to see business owner train their managers to treat staff like him what an example. I don't advise people supporting this spot it might be convenient but it's just a sinful shame of class on the owner and how he wants his business to be reflected. Located on a busy intersection in Richmond Hill, Queens surrounded by many Roti Shops and West Indian cuisine. After trying mostly all the Roti Shops in the neighborhood I grew up in, Tropical Isle takes the spot for my Fav. Everything is fresh and delicious. Menu offers different options than most surrounding Roti Shops, restaurant is very clean, organized and well displayed. Staff was pleasant and prompt to help(which is rare in the West Indian culture) extra points in my books for the hospitality. I usually order boneless chicken curry and dhal purri with fresh baked pastries and they also sell freshly made bara which is the only place I know that sell in the area. Will definitely be back. Some pointers for the owners, have staff check all notes on online orders(GrubHub, UberEats) and under cooking noodles slightly more to be al dente would be ideal, however West Indians aren't used to that. Please keep up the hospitality to stand apart from the competition. read more

Everything was gray and gross looking, also when they gave me the food it was just sitting out for god knows how long. Also saw silverfish crawling across the floor at the entrance. I placed my order and the woman behind the counter seemed to have major attitude about something but I didn't know why, when I proceeded to give her my card she seemed even more annoyed. 10 dollar minimum she barked at me. Great food, good service! I like how you can see their menu options, so you know what it is before you actually order it. Their mac and cheese and their chickpeas is really good (and cheap too!!!). What made me come back tho was the delicious salara, the red coconut roll they got up front that is simply sensational. This is by far the worst place I've ever been to. Every morning when I wake up and see that this restaurant is still open, a part of me dies. The staff are rude and snarky and always have that pretentious attitude that makes you want to walk out the second you get there. Also, if that wasn't bad enough, I got food poisoning from eating their doubles and had the worst stomach pain of my life. I don't even remember how many times I threw up that day.
