So I've been wanting to try the oh so popular Datz Deli for the longest after seeing them featured on a show on tv a couple years ago.. I finally was able to try them recently! I was not disappointed and didn't expect to be, as this is a "Guyanese Deli!" We don't play in the kitchen. I'm just saying!! I ordered THE JERK,(jerk chicken) w. Mac n cheese, chicken patty and coco bread. I was absolutely blown away by the incredible flavors. The jerk chicken was perfectly spiced, and succulent, while the mac n cheese was divinely cheesy (just how I like it) all nestled in the most delicious, slightly sweet and fluffy cocoa bread, topped with a rich, tasty gravy / sauce..a harmonious blend that was extremely gratifying to my taste buds!! This place truly delivers authentic Top Notch Guyanese / Caribbean fusion cuisine with a hint of soul food. Their reputation for the Oxtail / Jerk Chicken and patties with cocoa bread is well-deserved!! I FINALLY made it and honestly I was NOT disappointed! This was THE most magical beef patty with coco bread bc of the fillings! The only critique I'd like to share is that the fillings are packed only on 1 side. Kinda like when a sandwich only has the filling on 1 side and you're left with bread on the rest... Stopped in solo for lunch when I was in the area on a Sunday afternoon. It's a hole in the wall type spot. I waited in line about 10 minutes to place my order. The woman taking orders was no nonsense but polite. I ordered the oxtail Mac and cheese beef patty. It was ready in about 15 minutes. It was just as rich, tasty and decadently unhealthy as such things usually are. I understand why it went viral, it's pretty damn good! After hearing the hype, my husband and I stopped by while in the area. I tried the oxtail with the beef patty, mac, and coco bread, while he had the jerk chicken combo with the same sides. WOW! the food was incredibly flavorful! The jerk chicken was the standout with its bold, delicious flavor. The oxtail was tasty but a bit salty, likely because it clashed slightly with the mac's flavor. The coco bread was soft, and the beef patty had a perfect crisp. The restaurant had a unique exterior sign, but the interior was minimal. I wish there had been more drink and snack options as many were sold out. I found this place on TikTok and thank God I did because this place SLAPS. It seems unassuming as a corner shop but inside is all good vibes. It was already a bit busy despite it being a late and rainy weekday night, but the guys reassured us they would get to us soon. We got the Jerk DatMacPatty and the chicken curry patty with rice. (I think there's some more options with the patties in person than online!) It was my first time getting a patty inside bread, but my friends always tell me this is theee way to eat a patty. Both were sooo delicious and very filling. It comes all the best Caribbean flavors into one jam-packed patty sandwich. We also got an extra side of mac which is honestly to die for. Who hasn't seen the viral video from Datz Deli, that's why I had to go. The space is small and is takeout only, but parking in the area was easy. Walking in we were greeted warmly and of course had to order the viral Beef patty stuffed with mac & cheese and oxtail sandwich. We also opt'd for a smaller cod sandwich and some maduros. The woman behind the counter was just lovely and helped us with our menu selections. The cod sandwich was a bit salty, but what's to be expected with salt cod. However pairing it with the maduros balanced with all out and it was so good. On to the reason why we were there, the stuffed beef patty sandwich. It is definitely a filling sandwich and I was glad we decided to share it. I love food and of course , me being absolutely in love with oxtail , had to try this oxtail beef patty with Mac & Cheese . From the moment I took my first bite, I knew I was in for a treat ! The oxtail was cooked to perfectly with the meat so tender it practically melted in my mouth. The flavors were rich and savory, with a depth that can only come from slow-cooking but the beef patty is the heart of what holds this beautiful concoction together. Videos of this place kept popping up on my Tik Tok feed , I was passing by and decided to see what the hype was about. There was a short line about 8 people ahead when we arrived and it's a small space. We were warmly greeted and told the lady we were not ready to order yet. She let us know she's available to answer any questions if needed. A few signs on the walls explained how to order the stuffed patties . I'm honestly not a fan of carb on carb stuffing in my beef patties and was relieved to see that they also offered plate style ( without the patty) . My kids however were there for that stuffed patty and were not changing their minds. Once we ordered we waited close to 30 minutes for our food. I noticed only 1 guy and the cashier were on staff and were working as fast as they could. The lady was so calm and her demeanor seemed to spread to the waiting customers, no one seemed bothered by the wait. It was nice to see people being normal and patient, it also seemed like they all knew this was the pace and the wait was worth it. I looked around the deli , they have a selection of packaged Asian snacks , unique flavors of Lay's, Oreos, skittles and other candies ,chips,soups etc. Aside from the patties and plates I don't know if they also serve any other regular deli options. Everyone was there for the patties. Finally Sharon ( I think that's her name ) said our order was ready, she apologized for the wait but by that time my kids were so busy picking out snacks I didn't even notice it was half an hour . The mellow atmosphere had grown on us lol. She double checked our orders, offered us cups of ice for our drinks and told us that there are a few tables outside if we chose to sit. The rice is heavily seasoned , so good you can literally have it alone and have a satisfying feeling of a meal. Deep browning flavors, cinnamon sticks and definitely meat stock flavors and some hot spices too. The Mac and Cheese was good, it wouldn't be something I'd order on it's own but tje creaminess definitely helped with the spiciness of the overall plate. The jerk chicken is boneless thigh. It was a bit salty but lots of good jerk flavor, I could tell it was made in the oven and not on a grill because it lacked that notable smoky component associated with jerk. I wasn't upset , it's a deli not a jerk barbecue spot. My kids devoured the patties , as I said before I'm not into the stuffed arrangement but the components of the plate are exactly what they use to stuff the patty and those each tasted delicious . They got the oxtail and mac and cheese stuffing. My kids liked that the patty was so neatly put together that it was easy to eat without stuff falling out all over. If you love big flavors and Caribbean food then give Datz a try. Don't expect frills and fancy decor and if you're impatient don't go over there yelling at the nice people. It's not the vibe. I called and asked specifically what time they would start serving oxtail beef patties and was told 9am. That didn't sound right. So we got here at 11:50 am on Wednesday and was told to wait outside half an hour for us to order. This was since the beef patties were cooking. We were the second people on the line. When the food was ready, they started letting people in a couple at a time to order. We ordered the beef patty on coco bread with rice and peas and oxtail. The other with the beef patty on coco bread with mac and cheese and jerk chicken. These were around 10$ each. It was nice to see a whole family working together. You see the sister at the register taking orders, the brother putting together the sandwiches and the dad in the background cooking. We also got some Caribbean natural juices that were about 5.50$ each. When they were ready, when we got back outside, there was a line forming. We went to the nearby Gladys Warren triangle and sat in the grass and ate. This was near the Q2 bus to take us back to the F train. The sandwich with beef patty mac and cheese and jerk chicken was great. We loved that one. The oxtail one was good but putting it with peas and rice and coco bread dampened the flavor. I think next time mac and cheese would be the way to go for the oxtail one. They didn't have plantains today and I was told they have it available some days. All in all, it is a great and flavorful family business. One suggestion is to hire a friend or cousin to help with the sandwich making during the busy hours so people do not have a long wait. I've been here about 3 times and the food never disappoints. My go to is either the Mac patty with oxtail or Mac patty with shrimp curry . Josh and Chris are always super friendly and provide good service. Please bring back the homemade pine tart and cheese roll!! They were flaky & delicious :) ambiance- it's a deli- there are a few chairs outside to sit. Came here for lunch because I saw a YouTube short about this place. On the outside it looks like your normal deli, on the inside, the deli options are limited. However, I came in around 12pm for lunch and customers were coming in for the Patties. I decided to get rice and pease with jerk chicken. It was okay but nothing close to authentic Jamaican for the price of $15. I order the large rice and pease with jerk chicken. The rice was good, and it's what made me give this 4 stars. The chicken was okay, it's meant for the Pattie's because they threw it on the grill for 2 minutes to heat up. There weee no sides with the dish and the container was a small compared to other restaurants. The food here is good -- I always get the oxtail patty. I came in today to get my usual order, but the lady taking my order had a nasty attitude. I asked for extra gravy, and she told me there was already gravy inside the patty and on top. I already knew that, but I always ask for extra because depending on who's serving, they can be light on the gravy at times. She then gave me a very small scoop of mac, even though I usually get more. I politely asked for a little extra, and instead of just helping, she got upset, started being sarcastic, and tried to argue with me. I kept saying "ok, no problem," but then she told me, "I don't know who did that for you because my brother is the owner," which was completely unnecessary. Location: Finding this restaurant wasn't hard. This place is located in a residential neighborhood which makes parking a little more difficult. If you're lucky you will snag a parking spot near by. Luckily I was with my family so we were able to hop in line while my cousin was looking for parking. The Wait: We waited in line for a little over an hour before we were able to step inside and place our orders. Only 5 people at a time were able to enter the restaurant . There was about 10 people ahead of us. The sun was blazing that particular day which made waiting in line miserable. Periodically the clouds would block the sun but not enough to make it comfortable. I think they should come up with a better system for waiting. Customer Service: The owner and her son were on the front line packing orders and ringing out customers. They were really welcoming. They were bustling trying to get the food out but also helpful with answering our questions. The Food: I ordered one beef patty with mac & cheese and curry goat (which was my favorite) and one beef patty with mac & cheese and jerk chicken which was okay I'd give it a 7/10. I requested a patty with oxtail and was told that they don't serve that although it was written on the menu. The food was very rich and filling. It was pricey as I ended up spending $50. The Hollis, Queens location is very much out of the way, but on our way from Brooklyn to the Bronx last weekend, we passed a new DATZ outpost in LES. OMG! He made the ultimate detour and the next thing I know, we were ordering LMAO! There was a jerk chicken option, amongst others but we opted for the classic oxtail. It appears to be little layers of oxtail meat, mac and cheese, inside of a classic beef Jamaican beef patty with coco bread. Nevertheless, what appears to a small loaded sandwich is actually gargantuan meal. Initially, I could only eat half of a half. With the first bite, I could taste the cocoa bread. I could taste the beef patty, as well as the oxtail and mac & cheese as individual bites. With the next few bites, the mashup of ingredients as a whole, if that makes sense. Everything, even individually, was quite flavorful, well, seasoned and delicious. Must have came here at a bad time. I came here in the middle of the afternoon on a weekday. The menu tvs weren't showing anything and the fridge was half empty. The lady at the cashier was the mom of the owner. I didn't know what to order and she offered the oxtail sandwich. When I saw the cook offering the premade sandwich in the heater, I was a bit turned off because I wanted something freshly made. The cashier said it was recently made and sternly said that it was this way because they were viral and have 16 million views! Despite the comment, the sandwich was fresh. Not the best deli sandwich I've had in NY but definitely good for $12. I tasted the oxtail and Mac and cheese. The coco bread offered a nice biscuit like texture. Would I come here again? I was a bit worried coming here based on some of these reviews. I was truly prepared for the worst and kept my hopes low for any decent service or welcome. We dropped in around 8:30pm on a Saturday. They were understandably sold out by that time. I told the owner we drove from Long Island to try and I know it's late but was there anything she could let us try. As a matter of fact, she was very pleasant and quite engaging. She was very accommodating and engaged us in discussing their videos and plans for expansion and even the exotic snacks they carry. I was a bit disappointed initially as there was no oxtail available. She told us we should try the curry chicken Mac & cheese beef patty instead and called her son in to make 2 for us despite the grill already having been turned off. We waited about 8 minutes or so for our food and then were on our way. We didn't taste until we got home after about a 20 minute drive. Let me tell you... it did not disappoint. I came here on a random Saturday Am. Luckily there was no long line. The deli itself is inside a corner store. They sell a bunch of international snacks, drinks and random thing processed food items. I ordered the mac patty and a regular Jamaican patty. Both were delicious, but ok. Nothing that will blow you away. Okay so the food isn't bad. I think my fave thing from here was the jerk chicken sandwich with the patty, Mac, and Coco bread. The chicken was well seasoned flavorful and really complimented the Coco bread. It was just that you can't really taste the patty or the Mac and cheese. It's like when u eat it you forget that they're even there unless a piece of Mac falls. The oxtail one well I wish there was just more oxtail and gravy to it. Reason for that is because I feel like you're not getting enough oxtail within a bit. You're probably getting the same amount of meat as your getting the Mac. Even still the Mac you're tasting a little more of. Problem with that is there's nun special about the Mac. It goes back to me saying the Mac and patty is co-exist. I will say this though I understand Oxtail is expensive so giving so much out of the meat costs. That's understandable. When you go in you'll meet some nice people in a little store. Real reason I'm giving them a 4 is because they have a beautiful family from what I seen and want people to keep trying their food. There are other options to get from like platters, fried Oreos, and other sandwiches. So I say go and explore your palate. My best friend from DC came to visit for the weekend and said he saw this place on a TikTok video and wanted to try their oxtail mac and cheese patty. We went in today (Sunday) around 3pm and as soon as we walked in, one of the brothers made an announcement that the oxtail and mac patties won't be ready for another hour but jerk chicken and mac ones were, so we got them. About $10 a piece. I initially thought it was overpriced but once I got it home and saw how substantial it was, I quickly changed my mind. It was very tasty and I was filled after eating just the first half. Saved the second half for the next day and it was just as good and worth the price. Definitely has a kick to it if you like spicy. I'd go back for sure to try the oxtail one. Side note: I would've given them 4 stars had it not been for the owner's mom being at the register and servicing people while she was sick. Ugh, not a good look at all. She kept blowing her nose, coughing and even digging up her nose while handling the register and bagging people's food. Came on sat at about 2:30ish and didn't get inside until 4pm. When I arrived I was told by the woman ahead of me there would be a 20-30 min wait because they ran out of Patties. Mind you it wasn't 20 min. By the time I was first on line, they had run out of Patties again. For a business that has been open for a few months now and knows the demands, this is unacceptable. They can only bake 4 dozen Patties at a time because that's all their oven can take. Get ANOTHER OVEN. Also there is no limit on how many Patties a person can get hence why they run out so quickly. I think it's kind of them to not limit it because they understand people are bringing home for families and coming from far away (that was the explanation they gave another frustrated customer) but it would seriously limit the wait time and ensure everyone gets to try the Patties instead of making them wait even longer than necessary. Considering all the hype right now why not just do this to start out and then lift the limit at a later point? Frustrated customers and people leaving the line can be avoided if they'd simply get another damn oven to bake more patties and put a reasonable limit like two or three per person. I also think the issue is the lack of clear communication because though they said 20 min we all know it wasn't 20 min. If you know how long it takes to bake you can give a certain time frame so people can manage expectations. It almost felt like random numbers were being tossed out. Now once I got in there it took like a min to pay and get my food, probably because I literally bought only one patty with the Mac. Honestly I should've just made my own at home by getting the ingredients from another place because while it was good, I didn't need to wait over an hour in almost 90 degree weather for all this. The staff were really very nice and I wish them all the success. I know how beautiful the mission behind the deli is but I think they're shooting themselves in the foot right now. You can't survive on hype forever and while you have it you gotta manage crowds better. Lafayette for instance has a limit on their croissants after they went viral which is fair and keeps things moving. If you want more than one croissant per flavor get back in line. I say it should be the same here. It's not fair that someone who wants just one patty has to wait at least an hour because three people collectively bought all the stock. Also all they had when I got in there was oxtail. No jerk chicken or anything else. There is a vegetarian option though. A veggie patty which is awesome. From what I saw on Instagram the beef patty is halal from the owner and someone on google said that the beef and chicken Patties were halal after visiting and so I went off of that when ordering but I do wanna verbally confirm one day so as not to mislead anyone. I did really enjoy it regardless. It was smaller than I expected lol and it didn't fill me up so I could've gone for maybe half of another or maybe a second one. Maybe the addition of oxtail would've made it more filling. Also the website says it's 7.50. It's 8.50 now and there's a credit card fee. So it'll be maybe around 9 bucks. read more

Words cannot describe how delicious these sandwiches are. I would argue that I should've came to this place much sooner while taking the first bite of the oxtail. I couldn't understand how something so delicious could exist. And the sweet plantain on it was a cherry on top. I also tried the chicken and it was really delicious however very spicy so please be careful if I had to pick between two of them. I would say that the oxtail was by far the most delicious but both were equally up there when I got there because I got there around 9 o'clock so perhaps go late at night, but truly, I've been trying to go to this place for over a year and I'm very upset. I had the opportunity to check this spot out the other day and it was cool. The first day I came the line was crazy. I didnt have the desire to wait so I left but happened to be near it the next day. The goal here is the MacDaddy. It's a great sandwich so definitely try get on an off time or early. Remind's me of the Cuts & Slices line situation in Brooklyn for the Oxtail slices. I have tried to come here 2 other times and very long wait times I guess 3rd time is the charm. Not a lot of people waiting, good thing I got there when I did while I was waiting a crowd came in , I got the chicken patty with oxtail and mac&cheese they had just run out of the beef patty's and the wait for them was going to be 20mins didn't want to wait! The chicken patty was so good also got Rice&peas curry shrimp and mac&cheese platter it was so good!!!!
