A completely forgettable Mexican restaurant clearly catered to American tourists. Located on the fifth avenue strip where many other tourist traps are located, we decided to go in because the vibes presented weren't quite as egregious as some other restaurants we passed by and the the presented price of a drink was on the more reasonable end. The plain margarita is served in a massive goblet of a glass and actually tasted fairly normal. Not an exceptional margarita but completely acceptable, especially for a restaurant. I didn't have a mango margarita but no one who ordered it was able to finish it on their own and it seemed it just tasted too sweet and fake to enjoy. Foodwise, I ordered the carne asada tacos. These came out with a small helping of pico de gallo and a salsa verde to pour over top, with a warning that the salsa was spicy. The salsa verde was, at best, mild and honestly didn't taste much of anything at all although at least the pico was exactly as you'd expect. Not brimming with vibrant tomato flavor but at least brining a bit of freshness. The tacos themselves were incredibly unremarkable not tasting much of beefiness or any particular marinade. The steak was also fairly overdone and tough. While I wouldn't say that playa del carmen is a massive haven of great food, you can certainly do better than this. I suppose at least the service was prompt and accessible and the interior decoration is fine if you are into just oodles of Mexican themed knick knacks lying or hanging around like skeletons to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. read more

Came here for breakfast well on vacation and the food is amazing well for sure the breakfast food is. Service was OK nothing extra or out of the way was done for us. My day started there, sitting right on 5th Ave enjoying a stellar cup of coffee followed by some green healthy drink that I don't recall the ingredients for, but it was stellar!! For breakfast I had they enchiladas with beef flanks and eggs covered by their red sauce. Amazing start to the day with amazing flavors. If you're in town, check them out. Great place!! read more

This is a great place to stop if you want a nice fresh juice. Their menu is extensive - from liquados (fruit blended with water) to smoothies (with ice and/or milk), to all types of specialty juices (antioxident, detox, etc.). For our breakfast, my husband had the chilaquiles with arrachera, and I had the motulenos. The chilaquiles had great flavor. The chips could have been a little crispier, but I like the addition on arrachera instead of chicken (I've never liked chicken on chilaquiles). My motulenos were amazing. The best I can describe is a tostada covered with cheese, egg, ham, and salsa. It was delicious. Friendly staff, extensive menu, great location. We'll have to go back for dinner! read more

I went here on the first night of my vacation. I enjoyed the experience. The food was fresh and steak tacos were delish. Take advantage of their 2 for 1 cocktails specials. I tried the margaritas and they were excellent and strong. Not watered down. Our waiter Alfredo was a sweetheart and suggested a few nightclubs we could check out throughout our stay. One of the best restaurants in Playa del Carmen. The breakfasts are just great. My partner always orders the huevos motuleños, a typical Yucatan dish, & swears by them. I love their fresh-squeezed juices, mango & grapefruit are favorites, & always order a side of fried plantains with heavy cream & cheese. Yum! We stop by this restaurant on Tuesday night looking for a quick bite. The guy out front that was trying to wrangle us in made a false promises about drink specials. Our waiter I tried to sweep the comments from the hostess under the carpet by saying all our drinks are special. The meat tasted like it was mixed with filler like a Russian Katleta not 100% beef. The worst was the margarita tasted like it was full of splenda not the best. I stopped in here on our first night in PDC - starving. We were the only people in the restaurant that seemed to be eating food. About halfway through our meal, a drunk couple sat at the table next to us, ordered beer and did lines of cocaine at the table. This is not a classy restaurant. Avoid this place at all costs! Stumbled here for dinner tonight with a group of friends and boy are we regretting it. Between the six of us, we ordered 4 fish dishes (whole fish, 2x cilantro fish, and grilled fillet), one lobster dish, and one seafood with rice. The "best" was probably the seafood with rice because of the broth. None of the seafood tasted fresh. Everything was over cooked and tasted chewy or mushy. The only slight upside are the drinks. Mojito, The Tropical, and strawberry daiquiris were all pretty good. The mango juice was more of a ice slushie with a hint of mango. The orange juice was fresh and tasted good. Oh and the icing on the cake was wifi didn't work and they didn't accept credit cards. read more

Very simple, yet delicious food with great prices. The Chaya(juice...spelling?) with pineapple and lime is one of the best juices I have ever had! So fresh. Fernando at the front door is the man. I got there two weeks ago with my wife, asked for a margarita, and the guy said sure " i make the best margaritas in Playa Del Carmen" he comes with two sunny D tasting margaritas with NO ALCOHOL WHATSOEVER , so we tried to get them down but just couldn`t , they where HORRIBLE but since the guy said " if you don`t like them just let me know" , so we asked the guy if he could at least put a little bit of tequila in them and the guy gave us "the look" as if he had gotten offended, and after 10 minutes he comes with a small shot of tequila and poured the shot between the two 750ml ice filled sunny D margaritas and THEY WHERE STILL INCREDIBLY BLAND!!! thats how bad they where but i understand why they do that: they take a picture of you and then glue it to a lil tequila flask they try to sell you so you buy it and pour tequila on the overpriced bland margarita they sell, all bad bussiness practices and a scam, for you to spend more, but we didnt fall for it so they tried to rip us off even more later on. So later we ordered a platter that said (for two people) they brought it and it was mostly fried onion and green peppers, tasteless with no seasoning and oily as hell and it was in fact so little food we where still hungry after finishing it all (this was the first time this happens to us in mexico) , but that`s not the worst part, after the worst margaritas of our lives (we have had many trust me) at 150 pesos each and food that seemed to be made by a newspaper selling guy instead of a cook (we shouldnt even mention the word chef here), we asked for the bill and guess what? they overcharged us 15 dollars!!! but no it wasn`t just that they wanted to rip us off on the dollar exchange at 15 pesos per dollar which is a rip off exchange rate, they where including IVA separate from the prices which is ILLEGAL TO DO IN MEXICO as IVA has to be included in the price advertised, so they came with a check for 48 dollars when the total amount in reality was 35 , so i left them 40 dollars as in "GO SCAM YOUR MOTHER WITH THAT IVA BS" and the server had the nerve to follow us down the street and grab my wife by the arm 1 block down the street!!! so i told him HEY WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING!! and he said "you didnt pay your bill" and blablabla and i told him "YES WE DID , AND WE LEFT YOU 5 DOLLARS TIPS (which in mexico is a decent tip for a quick meal for 2 people even when we hated the food) and then he went like "but the exchange rate here is 15", and i told him " but that is a rip off" and he told me "well you should have asked what was our exchange rate before you came here" and i told him, even with that exchange rate i gave you enough money to pay my bill, but im not paying you any IVA BULL Shit YOU KNOW THATS ILLEGAL, call the police if you want" as soon as i mentioned the iva rip off he left complaining " you didnt even left me for my tips" and i answered him" i did, but if you serve us bad food (literally bad contaminated food) , horrendous margaritas, and then try to rip us of with the bill, what where you expecting? we left you 5 dollars, your boss is the one doing the rip off not us, and as soon as i mention the IVA RIP OFF the mexicans on the street started laughing and one that was in the corner of a shop told us THEY ARE TRYING TO ROB YOU DONT PAY ATTENTION TO HIM" so thats my story with "tropical IVA rip off mediocre food alcohol free margaritas, and i kid you not, in our 10 days in beautiful mexico, that night was the ONLY night me AND MY WIFE got the flush, and im 100 percent sure it was the bad food they serve there, if you are around playa del carmen, go to Don Mario, , or Pasteteleria in cancun, you wont regret it, dont buy overpriced contaminated food in "tropical" just because you like the traditional restaurant decoration they have there to fool tourists. read more

Excellent place food was good and the price was right. I would stick to the Mexican food. I ordered the plater Yucatecan. It's a pork,meat, and shredded seasoned chicken. Bartolo was my server. He was helpful, friendly and funny. I had also drank amores tequila. Ask for the chilli powder. Overall I'd give tropical a 9.5 our of 10 ***update**** it's been two days since I have eaten at tropical restaurant. I have not gotten sick and I was able to digest my food. read more

We ordered the tacos-chicken and the enchiladas-chicken the tacos consisted of chicken and onion with a tiny bit of bean and guacamole on the side so bland and the enchiladas were quite tasteless compared to the other Mexican restaurants around. They add there tip into the bill before you see it which is not how it should be done. read more
