I wish I could give less than a one star review but that's as low as it will let me go. I was so offended going here today that I had to download yelp just to review this place. I walked in this evening and ordered a smoothie and as I was waiting for my order the manager started yelling at one of the employees until she was brought to tears. I purposely stayed in a little longer today to try and catch the manager name and heard it was Diamond. I can understand having a bad day and getting mad, I worked in a kitchen before, it happens, but every time I go in this manager is giving her employees sarcastic responses and bringing them down, this just seems like a classic case of someone having a position go right to their head. From witnessing this work place harassment I can only imagine what she must put her employees through, no wonder they always seem understaffed, no one wants to work with that manager! Tropical is a chain, how come no one above her has removed her by now, how can you run a business with someone like that at the helm, especially a small cafe! Needless to say, there are plenty of other tropicals around the area and would even recommend the one on Woodward in Detroit as a much better alternative, it's clear after going to both locations the true affect that one manager can have on their employees. read more

I had a horrible experience at this location, the person who was serving me had a name tag named Hanna. She had massive attitude and snarky looks as she was handing me my smoothie.. she seemed like she hated her job and wasn't even trying to be remotely friendly. I frequent the one on Ford rd and one in northville and this is the only one that never tastes sweet. Literally always sour, and if I ask for Splenda its super sour and bland. Out of several locations I have been to in multiple states this is the worst. I have been here twice and each time my experience is poor. I was told yesterday that my sugar level could not be further customized. When I said every other location in MI and out of state where I have been will do the customized sugar level for me, I was told we will see what we can do and my smoothie was not customized to my specification. Scooping up half of your half measuring spoon is not difficult. Half sugar is far too sweet for my tastebuds. I doubt TS would like to loose customers over a simple modification such as this. My first time going to this location was horrendous but TS did compensate me for that experience; which I was not expecting. This time around, I am resolved to not going to this particular location again in lieu of formally submitting a complaint to TS. I actually prefer this chain over our Jamba Juice. Tropical Smoothie has a more natural base to it rather than all this fruit juice and sugar, etc. I ordered a mango smoothie and it was delicious. It had chunks of pineapple and other fruits but overall, it was light, it had the right texture of a smoothie, the mango tasted so natural and not sour, etc. I really enjoyed my drink. I'd like to mention there was a situation where they were exceptionally busy , my smoothie got lost in the hustle and I was there almost 15min. We normally love going here. However after going there tonight we were left displeased. After ordering our food, we were only given 1 of the two smoothies we ordered. We asked for the other one and they said we never ordered it. We always order the same thing when coming here and its always the same price. Very upset about this. I'll never deny that the chain has some very tasty and nutritious drinks, but the wait times and subpar food menu never has me clamoring to visit very often. This particular store, though, has even more work to do. I had placed an online order for one smoothie and selected a specific time for pick-up to be 30 mins later. Upon arrival, the place was trashed - food, wrappers and used napkins all over the floor along with dirty chairs and overflowing trash bins. When I told the young man I was here for an order, he was very friendly but confused that he had no knowledge of the order and ultimately could not find it. He grabbed a manager, who disappeared to the back room for about 10 minutes as she shared she'd see what happened. When she returned, she had an 8x11 paper from a printer with my order on it and said the printer failed to produce it the first time. "Why are online orders dependant on a hard copy that's printed in the back room?" I thought. Anyway, thank God it wasn't a packed store during peak hours because it still took some additional time to make the drink and send me on my way. These kids couldn't make a smoothie right to save their lives. I've given them over a dozen chances. Bad on me at this point. But the other Tropical Smoothie that makes things right is farther away and has a longer line (I wonder why) so I kept trying. I order the peanut butter banana chia with no oats. Not that tough. Half the time they put oats in anyway (good thing I'm just grossed out by them and not allergic!). They always miss an ingredient. Usually it's the dates, sometimes it's the coconut or cinnamon. Sometimes it's all three. They don't tell you their out of one or more of the ingredients and ask if you still want it, they just make it and don't care. And last but not least. Wow! So much to choose from! This morning, I had the Health Nut smoothie (banana, blueberry, almond) with whey protein, and my daughter had the Detox something-or-other with spinach, kale, pineapple (I think), and a bunch of other good-for-you and good tasting stuff. The staff was friendly and offered suggestions for my first visit. We were served immediately, and with a smile. What impressed me most was the variety on the menu. I love this place. I've had the rockin raspberry and the watermelon mojito. Both are extremely good but totally different. I get these with Splenda instead of sugar which lowers the cals and sometimes I add protein. I love that you can alter these to make them healthier. So happy they put this place in Dearborn. TSC is Consistently a very good and very fresh lunch spot in Dearborn. We've mostly ordered takeout here for work lunches and meetings. It's a popular choice at our office near Ford HQ.
