The meat shawarma sandwich at Tuhama's is, simply stated, the best I've ever had, and I have tried most of the shawarma restaurants in Dearborn. The meat is perfectly spiced and tender, simply amazing. The shawarma at many other places I tried along Warren Avenue was dry, tough, and lacked flavor. The two guys running the place are friendly and polite, both the restaurant and the restroom are clean, the price of the sandwich was very reasonable, so I have no negative things to say. We wanted to get quick food and saw the high ratings for this place and tried it. A lot of menu items I had to look up, which is always fun. Seems a fair amount of sausage ( no pork) options. And lamb tongue was on there. I wasn't sure what i would like so I went safe this time. They were really friendly and super patient with us trying to figure it out. Definitely a busy place for locals. Our food was flavorful. I didn't expect pickles on it and they worked! They pack the chicken in, no skimping for sure. There is limited indoor seating. This is one of my favorite sandwich shops when I used to live in the Dearborn area. It's in East Dearborn and so not the most attractive or spacious restaurant, but it is more for takeout than dining in. Employees are very courteous and generous with portions. Every sandwich they make is delicious and the bread they use is absolutely amazing no matter what goes between it. Prices have gone up over the years unfortunately, but that's just the reality of the restaurant business. read more

Both meat and chicken shawarma sandwiches have the perfect balance of meat, sauce (garlic in chicken, tahini in meat), and veggies (pickled cucumbers in chicken, pickled turnips, tomato, onion, parsley in meat). Food is excellent. Unique flavor slightly different than fare of its type ( Syrian roots ) The fattoush salad has a slightly sweeter taste than most but no compromise on flavor & taste. I took my uncle here last night because he was craving a shawarma sandwich, and Dearborn is loaded with a lot of places that sell them. He travels around the globe a lot and loves coming to Dearborn because of all the amazing food options he has. I haven't been to Tuhama's but I've heard good things about it in the last so I thought I'd give it a go and take him. My uncle ordered a chicken shawarma and was in and out quickly and the price was good. When we got home and he tried it, he said the chicken was lacking in flavor, and after having a bite or two, I was pretty disappointed and embarrassed for taking him somewhere I haven't tried. The sandwich was overloaded with garlic sauce and still tasted bland/ not cooked long enough. We're just going to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume it was because of how late it was that the food quality was affected. I tried their Tuhama's Chicken burger and their meat shawarma and boy was it good! I really loved their meat shawarma more than their chicken burger but they both were delightful. For sure the best meat shawarma I've had. The chicken burger for me was so good too but lacked more flavor. It was too plain and not seasoned enough but tasted still so good. Heard so many great things about this place. Heard it was one of those staple Dearborn restaurants. Never got around to trying it until now. I must say, it was really good,butttttt nothing too special. The bread was so toasty which is one reason why I enjoyed it so much. The chicken was good, but not great. The chicken was a little dry, full of flavor. All I did have was a chicken sub, so I can't speak on behalf of the other food. Though I must say, the fries were really delicious. It's good enough where I'd come back, but I wouldn't say it's my favorite chicken sub. It's up there on my top 5. The food was hot, but did take a while considering we dined in. The place is small primarily for takeout but some clean seating areas if you're choosing to dine in. The price is almost unbeatable. Subs come in 1 size and run for 6 bucks. That's definitely one of the cheapest subs around. The great news: the bread is dairy free and so is the chicken. So that definitely will keep me running back. I have serious reservations about writing a review of this place. Recently we added a new member to our team at work, and he is a Lebanese Canadian. A few weeks back he went with us to our beloved Hamido and he confirmed that yes, we had found some of the best Lebanese food this side of the Middle East. When Moe came up to me last week to tell me that he found Chicken Shawarma that was even better than Hamido, my eyes opened up very wide. Today the lunch posse paid Tuhamas a visit. Inside a gritty storefront on Warren Ave on the easternmost edge of the Arabic district is a tiny restaurant that possibly seats 15 people. It reminds me of the Indian spots on Devon Street in Chicago that cater to an exclusively ethnic customer base, like my beloved Ghareeb Nawaz (Urdu: Food for the Poor). However, this place served up the best Chicken Shawarma sandwich I have ever tasted. Seriously. At $3.50, the sandwich was about 50% larger than the Hamido version. The meat was moist, tender and perfectly seasoned. Tuhamas cuts the meat thicker than Hamido, and combines it with Lebanese pickles and perhaps the only garlic sauce that beats Hamido in taste and freshness. The sauce was a bit heartier than the Hamido version, but what set it apart was a stronger lemony bite that made it extra savory. I also ordered a Falafel sandwich that ended up being eaten by my Daughter at dinner tonight. We also shared a hummus that was HUGE and tasty. My reservation in sharing this place with Yelpers is that it is totally undiscovered by the foodie scene. It is a Lebanese restaurant for Lebanese tastes. It even has a French Fry sandwich listed on the menu, which I have learned is a truly weird and authentically Lebanese dish. Think of this place as a Lebanese stationary taco truck and you might get the picture. Update: The Kafta sandwich is probably even better than the Chicken Shawarma, if that is possible. They grill the kabob to order with the freshest seasoned meat, and do not overcook it. These boys are Lebanese sandwich wizards. The are the best on Warren Avenue and that is really saying something, given the towering presence of Hamido. read more

Tip #1 : Always listen to Rodger I have been wanting to get over here but had no one to come with. I mentioned it to my dad yesterday and guess who shows up on my doorstep with it? My dad cracks me up. He says I made him have to try it, serves him right after making me truck out to Manchester yesterday. I talked of a few other places I wanted to try so maybe I will hit a jackpot and get more carry outs or lunch invites :). He got chicken schwarma and kafta sandwiches with a side of hummus to split between us. The portions were huge. A total bargain. I have to say I love that he is retired and has too much spare time on his hands these days. I will agree that the kafta was my fave, no surprise there though as I am a kafta fan. This was perfectly seasoned and meaty-licious (sorry but I cannot describe it otherwise). The schwarma was also extremely tasty though and I liked having some of each. Everything was perfectly cooked and so full of flavor, garlicky heaven. The hummus was very good in my opinion but I will be honest, I have yet to meet hummus I did not like. We will both be back, although he did joke that with my mom it would have to be carry out. She is a little atmosphere sensitive sometimes. I don't have that issue myself thank goodness. read more

It has all the right components of a chicken shawarma - plenty of garlic sauce, pickles, and lots of chicken trimmed from the spit rotating around the fire.
