SO Awesome to have a healthy drive-thru option in the area, until the rude staff make you regret ordering altogether... a friend of mine used the restroom while we waited for our online order, and in the restroom he could overhear the employees complaining about the order in the kitchen. He later mentioned this, and the staff ended up getting physical, giving him a shove. The female employee's boyfriend was also working and threatened my friend. I truly want to love this place but it's literally left such a bad taste in my mouth that I can't. I decided to use the drive through since there wasn't a line (nor were there any cars in the parking lot), ordered a Sunrise Sunset smoothie and thankfully had cash on me. Normally, they present you with a handheld device to swipe your card and add a tip. I'd be happy to tip if I didn't sit at the window for at least five minutes without being acknowledged, while a group of teenage girls stand around inside giggling and staring out the window at me. The girl who waited on me did a fine job. Around $7.25 for a smoothie, ok I can get on board with that price. Tasted it and it tasted like ice with a hint of strawberry. I had reached the point of no return on my trip home and seriously wasn't about to turn around for them to take 10-15 minutes to remake my $7 smoothie. This isn't the first time I've been disappointed by smoothies or the service from here. On June 7th we stopped at this new Tropical Smoothie Caffe in Rochester at the new Ridge Shopping Plaza on Route 11 (actually it's the same business that was located in the Lowes Plaza off Exit 13 on Route 16). Ordered two Acai Berry Boost smoothies. The drive-thru line was slammed but the three staff members were efficient and we didn't have to wait long for our smoothies (we placed our order inside at the counter). The smoothies were excellent! The next day on June 8th we decided to grab dinner and smoothies on our way back home. Placed our order on the Tropical Smoothie app with a pickup time of 6 PM. When we arrived, there were no customers and six staff members. One was cleaning up, another looked like they were on break and the other four were milling about smartly. Our order was ready to go (although the receipt noted the order was completed at 5:33. Hopefully the order wasn't sitting out on the counter for almost half an hour). When we got home all three smoothies were TERRIBLE. They tasted like barely flavored crushed ice with zero sugar. My wife's Turkey bacon ranch sandwich had NO BACON and NO CHEESE. My buffalo chicken wrap was fine as well as the Chipotle Chicken Club (which actually did have bacon as listed on the menu). I called the restaurant and asked to speak to a manager. The individual who answered the call said she was the shift team leader. I told her about the three unsatisfactory smoothies and the turkey bacon ranch sandwich with NO BACON. She apologized and offered to put my name "on a list" and the next time I stopped in I would get three free smoothies. She didn't offer to do anything about the poorly made sandwich. She even admitted to me that other customers had lodged complaints with her earlier in the day (apparently she didn't take this as a cue to actually supervise what was happening on her shift). As with every restaurant, what you receive is highly dependent upon WHO is making your food. One would think that with six staff members on the shift and no customers they would have had the time to make three smoothies and three sandwiches correctly. Clearly there was no supervision in the preparation of this order. The owner of this business needs to get more involved in the training of the staff and quality of the product. Employee charged me for the wrong order, and when I saw the receipt, she proceeded to tell me that I was wrong and that she charged me for the correct order and that she had just handed me the wrong receipt, which she took back (probably because it had a survey code on it). I believed her, took my order, and left. Then after driving away I decided to check my bank account; only to find out that she had charged me for the wrong order (which was several dollars more than what I had ordered), and just blatantly lied by saying that it was the wrong receipt. I won't name the employee here, but clearly employees here need some training on what to do when they make a mistake, because lying about it and taking the receipt back is unacceptable and leaves an absolutely horrible mark on your business. On the way to a long weekend in Conway, NH we took the Rochester, NH exit to stretch our legs and were just in time for the grand opening of the Tropical Smoothie Cafe! The restaurant had a very interesting exterior, and a huge line of cars waiting at the drive-thru window, so we decided to go in and get a smoothie and some food. All food is made fresh to order, so if there is a line, you may be in for a wait. We waited about 15 minutes total, which wasn't too bad. They have tons of themed smoothies. Get up and Goji was my smoothie of choice, and it was delicious. They also have a huge selection of salads, wraps, and sandwiches. My boyfriend bought the avocado turkey sandwich (made on whole grain bread) and it was scrumptious! If you love smoothies and healthier lunch foods, I think you could visit the restaurant for weeks before you run out of something new to try- the menu was that deep and looked that good! Service was great. The items did come out separately so I was able to slurp away on my smoothie while my boyfriend waited hungrily for his sandwich. The prices were very good on the food items. A little high on the smoothies, but not outrageous. For about $10 we got a good little meal. This place is ideal for travelers en route to the White Mountain area who need to grab a bite to eat before hitting the longest part of the route (which doesn't offer many appealing food options!). I usually love this place. But today the woman on the headset was very rude and short. They ran out of lettuce which isn't a big deal. But I ordered a Turkey bacon ranch sandwich. When I got to the window I paid and than they told me they were out of bacon as well. I wouldn't have ordered this sandwich at the Intercom if I knew that. I really wish I could give this place fewer stars the employees are awful every worker had a bad attitude and was rude except for one guy. The workers treat you like you're stupid and aren't afraid to scream, swear and tell you to never come back over a small misunderstanding. I constantly see these teens sitting in groups out back smoking while there is a very long line in the drive through. I rarely eat here anymore because I don't want to be treated rudely for just wanting to get some food on my lunch break. I will be taking my business to Elsewhere from now on. I come to this establishment quite often! They have a wide variety of smoothie flavors and add-ins, as well as a great selection of vegetarian options- which is a wonderful bonus to an already awesome place. Their dining room is always clean, and the friendly service makes trips for breakfast, lunch or dinner very pleasant. It's definitely one of my top choices for the Rochester area. I recommend the Peanut Paradise smoothie with soy protein, which is my usual GO-TO. Their meat substitute is delicious, as well. read more
