Dan the owner will not cancel my membership and instead I've had to cancel my credit card as he is stealing from my account. I have sent emails, left voicemails and text messages to no avail. He is common thug stealing from his clients. Their equipment is often not useable, and staff will show up late to shifts, wait to unlock the doors while you sit in your car obviously waiting to go tanning. SHADY! Beware of shady practices around subscriptions and putting things on hold. I requested my account be placed on hold in person and was told all was good. Charges continued on my credit card and they falsely said that I signed a cancelation form (I didn't) and won't show me the signed form that that I allegedly signed so that I can see the signature. Capitol Hill staff don't have much power to solve issues and call it a management issue, and of course they never call or email back. read more

I personally love this company, but this location is terrible. I have shown up on numerous occasions to the salon being closed hours before it supposed to with no signage and no reasoning to be closed. I have shown up and booked my beds and then gone out to go to my next bed and they have given that bed to somebody else, I've had to sit naked waiting for bed that was given to somebody else that had already booked. One employee in particular is rude late half the time falling asleep at the desk. I understand that you have a disability and I appreciate that you attempt to do your job, but if you cannot, focus on your job at hand and not book beds under other peoples names. That's a problem. The tanning beds are pretty good, however, I had a poor experience with the people that work at TT. After repeated attempts to change my membership after I left the area to care for my parents in poor health, there was no follow-up. "Marissa" at the front desk was disrespectful in her approach and specifically lacked any empathy for my time away and willingness to help me cancel my membership. She requested that I be in person when I hadn't been in for 4 months (at $75/month approx $300 paid without going in once). I'll be sure to avoid TT going forward and I hope that Marissa finds a way to meet people's needs in some way. read more

I use TT before each tropical vacation so I have a base and don't have to slather on the thicker SPF cremes. The girls who work there are always (in my experience) easygoing and helpful. PROS: Receptionists are friendly and helpful. Great location, easy parking in front of across st in the garage. The beds are clean! Pleasant atmosphere. Beds are maintained regularly. Full range of services and products CONS: None really. The one thing I have noticed is that the employees explain the differences between the types of beds with very varying logic. In other words, if I ask "What's the difference between bed X and Y, and how much time difference would there be to use X and Y for the first few sessions?" the answer varies wildly in terms of their overall knowledge, not my skin type and effect on it. I think management should post the differences and styles of tanning each device renders. read more

I've been a member with tropical tan for a couple years, and have been to a few of their locations. All of them are great, but the Ballard location is by far my favorite location. I will actually go out of my way to go to the Ballard location because it is by far the cleanest store, they have the best selection of lotions, and most importantly, the customer service is more than exceptional. They make you feel so welcomed. Especially Jordan, she's adorable and super sweet! Wish I could give them more than 5 stars because they deserve it! read more

I went today after buying the awesome Mystic Tan deal through Living Social. Chloe was so nice and helpful. She went over all of the deals that they have going on for when my living social deal is over. She was so down to earth and welcoming. I totally recommend this location. It's super chill and clean! I can't wait to keep going and seeing better results! Girl behind computer should not have been working by herself. New and spent 30 minutes on phone. I waited more than I tanned. She didn't help me and couldn't figure out how to fill a new customer form into the computer. Couldn't have helped me, but a guy walked in and tanned and walked out in front of me before I even got to tan. Very disappointed in the experience since it shouldn't take an hour to tan for 7 minutes. Been here in the past and didn't have this much trouble. I had always had good experiences at this salon until last week there was a girl working in the evening who I had not seen before. She didn't greet me when I came in even though I said hi to her and then I gave her my last name. She was on her phone when I walked in and I got the impression as if I was bothering her. When I walked out, I said thank you and have a good night and she didn't even acknowledge me or look up from her phone. She was very unfriendly and I really hope she isn't working next time I go in. All the other girls are great, though. However, I have a concern that the beds aren't being properly sanitized. I was in the lobby waiting for a bed to open up, and then an older gentleman walked out and the worker went to go clean the bed and then came out literally 15 seconds later. There is no way she could clean the bed that quick. I actually sanitized it again myself when I went in with the Clorox wipes that I keep in my purse. All in all, I will continue coming here because I live just a few minutes away and the prices are great. $20 per month for unlimited tans in the basic beds. I have tried all the beds (I had a friend who worked at Trop Tan years back and she let me try them all) and in my opinion the other, more expensive beds are no better. I tan very well from the basic ones. When you first sign up here, they will probably be very pushy to try to convince you to buy a bigger tanning package and an expensive lotion. I ordered my tanning lotion on Amazon for less than half the price that they were selling the same one in the store and it works just fine to me. The lotions are overpriced and a rip off in my opinion, buy them elsewhere. read more

So this is going to be a positive/negative review. Pros -Most of the staff is great! Especially the gals that work in the evenings. I get off work later so I usually only see them, very professional and customer service oriented. -The price is amazing. Most affordable tanning salon in Seattle imo. -Location. Literally across the street from my apartment. Cons -Just one big con. I like tanning, but I typically only tan when I am either going on vacation or in the Summer time. So I have a monthly membership because it is convenient to just go in, say my last name, and tan. I tend to place it on hold every so often when I know I wont be tanning for a certain amount of time. Normally, this works out just fine. This time however, I call a few days before the first as usual to put my account on hold since we will be out of town for a little. The lady on the phone confirmed the hold and she knows my husband and I on first name basis so I figure Ok it's done, we are good. So woke up on the 1st to do some first of the month bill payments and budgeting and I notice the charges on y account! Thats not even the worst, some other charges got posted to our account that we didnt take note of, and left us pretty tight on cash for the next few days. So I walk over to the tanning salon and speak to who I actually always thought was the manager, did not act like one. I explained the situation and she actually said she doesn't know what i want her to do, she says it says its on hold but she doesnt know why it charged me. So I say, "I want a refund." and she LAUGHS. More like Scoffs, loudly like what I just said was a joke. So finally after calling her boss she initiates the refund, but ends up accidentally charging my card AGAIN. Luckily we were able to void it. But this girl is never a pleasure to speak to when we come in. More than once we have discussed her lackluster attitude after leaving the salon during the day. This place does a lot of things right - they have a great selection of beds and are very clean, and treat their existing customers really well! I came in for the first time on a weekend morning when it wasn't busy and had a great experience. Their system was down that day (not their fault) so they couldn't enroll me in the membership plan, and told me I could sign up the next time I came in. I came in again on a weeknight after work (arrived around 5pm) and would not advise new customers to try to set up a membership in the evenings when they're busy. I knew it would be busier and I would likely have to wait a little, but including my tan (7 min and lets say another 10 to get lotion on and dressed/undressed) I was there for an hour and fifteen minutes. Filling out paperwork and actually getting in the system took maybe 15 min total, and the other 45 min were spent getting passed over to 'quickly' check in 7 other existing customers who arrived after I finished my paperwork (when I started counting). read more

Over the past 15 years I have been to many tanning salons in the Seattle. I really like this location. I want to emphasize that I am talking about the Ballard location only. I have been to two other locations and have not been very happy. I spray tan only and it is super important that there are towels and those shower cap thingys in the booth. I have never been stuck in there without either (this has happened at other locations). The solution they use is really good. The place is super clean and the people that work there are super friendly. I love that they offer me deals when I am running out of sessions. read more

I bought a groupon for five mystic tans and have yet to have a tan. The first time I went I wanted to get tan before going on vacation. The person at the desk couldn't get the mystic tan machine to work for me. The only thing that happened was that the door kep opening and closing whenever I pushed the button, but no spray. It turns out they only have one mystic tan machine so after several minutes of this I finally gave up and went home. Today I went for the second time to give it another try. the girl at the desk told me that they had accidentally run out of the spraying solution and wouldn't have it in until Thursday. So I am not very happy with this location right now. Luckily I didn't pay for parking today before finding out that I couldn't get a spray tan until Thursday. read more

I stopped tanning in UV beds years ago but I come here for the mystic. The prices are very reasonable and all the girls are so sweet. Ballard can be pretty sucky for parking so it's nice that they have a garage to park in for FREE! They also have a line of great products to keep up my spray tan! Love this place! read more

I love going to Tropical Tan's Ballard location! One of the more well-kept spots and always has the friendliest girls. I just started coming the beginning of May and I love how fast they remembered my name! The beds are super clean and I like how simple and to the point the different memberships and such were explained. Would definitely recommend this location out of the others! :D read more
