Lori is absolutely amazing. I've been trying to find someone like her for a long time: finally, a knowledgable cosmetologist who knows a lot about nail health and nail maintenance post polish/gels/extensions. The cheap affordable salons have really damaged my nails without providing any recommendations in how to maintain my nail health after gel manicures. Because of how thin and scratched up they are from the harsh filing/buffing/chemicals used at the cheaper salons, Lori brought back hydration to my nails and used a different technique to gentle file/buff my nails back to perfection. We avoided the gels/extensions and used special polish and treatments to help revive the nails to grow back healthier and stronger. She also recommended supplements to expedite the progress, so I'm thrilled to see the results in a few weeks. The spa is great, on the top floor in a quiet corner with tall windows. The decors and sound of water was so relaxing. Check-in staff was very friendly and offered tea/water. They're running a promotion right now: buy 3 manicures, get 1 free (def worth it IMO), so am looking forward to my next visit/check-up to get my nail health back to 100%. read more

I went in for a crux haircut with Jordyn this afternoon. Jordyn was professional and even though I wasn't really sure how I wanted my hair styled, she made good suggestions and did a great job. Jordyn was very gentle with my hair, which I appreciated a lot. I see many low rated reviews regarding the 10% service fee, but I went in knowing about it because I read the need to know section of their website below: https://www.habitude.com/services/what-to-expect/ I didn't know what to expect about the quality of service from the crux intern haircut, but it was above my expectation. It was also nice to talk to Jordyn to get to know her and about the crux program. I wonder if the 10% service fee also goes to the crux program as well as other investments on the stylists here. Now, some concerns: I was initially scheduled for a haircut the previous week, but it got postponed because the stylist was out sick that day. Even though the front desk staff confirmed that she called me and left a voice message hours before the appointment, my phone received zero calls that day. I was able to rebook on the spot, but the receptionist booked me for two separate days by mistake. I realized that when I came home and checked my reservation status on my account. I was able to cancel the booking made by mistake early enough so that I could avoid the $50 no-show fee, but that was close. From such incidents, I presume staff here are not the best at managing appointments, so you should be ready to double check everything yourself. I'm docking a star for that. read more

Came here recently for a haircut with Cassidy. I had a great experience! The atmosphere and decor are really nice so I felt comfortable as soon as I walked in. There is even a complimentary tea station. Also lots of gifts to buy such as jewelry and stationery! As for the cut, it was perfect! Cassidy did a very thorough job. She asked very detailed follow up questions to make sure she did what I wanted. It turned out great! I would definitely recommend coming here for a cut. I have been going to Habitude in Ballard for years. I have thin, fine hair, and I have always known that many styles are not possible with my hair type. However, my hairstylist, Gina, has performed miracles. Her suggestions, cuts, colors, and the products she recommends have completely transformed my look. The hairstyle I now have was something I once thought was impossible. I never realized how much my self-confidence was tied to my hair, but my self-esteem has skyrocketed since these changes. Gina is always updated on the latest styles, which I appreciate. Dan, another amazing hairstylist, and the entire staff have made me feel so welcome at the salon. I truly enjoy the warm atmosphere every time I visit. I have also taken advantage of their spa services. My favorites are the pedicures, massages, and facials. Recently, Amy helped organize a Salon Day for me and four of my friends, where we all enjoyed facials, scalp treatments, and massages. The spa also features a sauna and beautiful rain showers. I never write reviews, but I had such a terrible experience at Habitude that I feel compelled to share. I took my daughters (ages 11 and 13) there to get their hair twice as they offer apprentice services at a reduced cost. The first time I went, I sat there waiting with my girls for ~2 hours. I was told by their stylist that day that in the future, I did not have to wait there and could simply come back later to get them. The second time I went, I walked back with my 11 year old and asked both the stylist and my daughter if it was okay for me to leave. The stylist said "of course" and my daughter was fine with it. She told me the service would take ~45 minutes. So I went on my merry way! Fast forward to 30 minutes later....I received a phone call from the manager, Richard. He was VERY rude to me on the phone stating that "She's 11!" and "We do not allow unaccompanied minors here!" and "Please get here right away!" His tone and approach were awful. I got to the salon and was greeted by a kind woman who apologized for the call and stated their policy. I let her know that I had been informed by 2 separate people that leaving was okay. She apologized that I was misinformed and assured me she would be sure their policy was known by all employees. Then Richard returned to the desk. I let him know that I did not appreciate his tone of voice on the phone and he began to raise his voice at me stating "I have to protect me employees! and "We do not allow unaccompanied minors!" Keep in mind, it is not as thought my daughter was destroying the salon while she waited there for me. She sat there quietly waiting. I proceeded to try to tell him what his employee had told me when I left my daughter there, and previously, but he spoke over me with his voice raised and said "YOU CAN LEAVE AND NEVER COME BACK". So that's what I did! I later reached out to the owner. With the treatment I received from Richard, I expected a sincere apology and admission that I had been wrongly treated and misinformed by staff. I do not feel that her response was appropriate. She did apologize, but largely stated their policy and let me know that the policy is included in my appointment info. She invited me to come back even though the manager banned me. No thanks!! I went for a cut and style; I left completely unimpressed with my experience. Easily the worst haircut of my life. I left baffled at how incredibly unprofessional my stylist was. She came off uninterested, short, and rude to the point I did not trust she even cared about how she performed. She complained about being hungry and rushed the whole experience. I understand having a hard day and not wanting to chat, no problem. But to not do your job, rush the client, and make your client incredibly uncomfortable is not acceptable. She diffused my curly hair for 2 minutes max and I left with sopping wet hair and that is paying for "styling"? I will not be going back. I have never written a review before, because in general, I'm not the type. I have a history with Habitude, and some good experiences. Let me just say that Habitude in Ballard has gone down hill. I saw male Jordan 6 times, and when I came in for another appointment, he couldn't find his notes on me, and thought we were meeting for the first time. (I knew his whole life story, which he seemed surprised about). After finding my notes, he did apologize, and finished his uninspired color and cut. I decided to try a new stylist at Habitude, and because I had colored at home, they said I would need a consultant before they would work on my hair. They said that Loanne had 4 hours of free time, but would just need to talk about a plan with me before she got started. I found parking, and went in and waited 20 minutes to check-in. I had paid for 3 hours of parking, which was hard to find. Loanne was rude, and never intended to work on my hair. She kept saying "What do you want? What do you want? Since this was a consultation, I said that I was open to feedback and would work with her on a plan. I could do more or less, depending on how she felt about the fact that I had home colored my hair one time, which apparently makes it hard for the Habitude stylists to do anything. She said, "I have No time today!" I work full time, and this was a Friday. I had blocked out the afternoon for this appointment. She was so rude, and I was surprised and hurt. I am not the demanding type, and tip well. I am polite, and actually need to work on not being overly generous and forgiving. To be treated like this after 10 years of loyalty, good tips and flexibility on my part, I am so so done!!! The front desk is slow, inconsistent, unprofessional, and unclear. The stylists are over-worked, haughty and unorganized. I am happy to stop recommending Habitude in Ballard. Over-priced, non-professional, uncaring. If you do choose to go in anyway, do not tell them about any other work that you've done on your hair. They are too precious, don't need your business, and will reject you on a dime. read more

I would like to say they match up with how they project on their website, social media platforms but they don't. They don't treat all people the same. The entire environment is toxic and seem to fake when it comes to greeting their guest or internal staff and family members. They are very outdated with the services they provide & I wouldn't even consider going there for anything. The entire spa upstairs is dirty and dusty. When I had a service I could hear people outside the door in passing by talking loud and did not feel comfortable or relaxed. I am so happy with my recent service at Habitude with Gina, salon manager. Like a lot of women, I am struggling with hair thinning as I age. Gina has been so warm, supportive and encouraging as I have ventured into wearing my first "helper hair". She has trimmed and thinned my topper so expertly that no one would know that I am wearing one. She is cautious about over trimming because the topper isn't going to grow back! I trust her suggestions about how the ends should be trimmed to improve the movement and weight of both my natural hair and the topper. I am so confident in Gina's abilities that I am now ready to purchase a human hair topper. read more

I want to start out saying that the couples massage that my husband and I received was outstanding. That is why I am giving two stars. The front desk service however is disgraceful. My husband purchased a gift certificate for a couples massage. Several months later we booked the service - amazing massage - the best. After paying and returning to our car we were concerned that perhaps the front desk hadn't included our intended gratuity. We had paid with the gift card and an additional $67 for the additional reflexology service. We weren't sure if the gift card included the gratuity. When we returned to the salon we were told that the gift card hadn't even covered one massage as prices had increased since my husband purchased it. "How can that be since it was for a couples massage?" Front desk had no answer, just wanted to charge us an additional $170 plus fees, noting changes are subject to change and otherwise "the second masseuse isn't going to get paid". They were rude and condescending to say the least, at one point saying "So, you are refusing to pay?" Are you kidding me? If the front desk had made a mistake when selling my husband the gift card - how is that now our problem? You sold us a gift card for a couples massage - obviously that's for two people. There was no interest or note that we are return customers, no desire to make things right for either us or the masseuses. The whole experience exceeded my expectations. I read reviews ahead of time and wasn't too sure what to expect. I had a 60-min massage with Danielle. It was one of the best massages I've had. I was truly able to relax which was exactly what I was looking for and needed. I'd like to mention that they have a selection of robes in different sizes to choose from. I had a little bit of anxiety around this as the last time I went to get a massage (different place entirely) I had to get dressed head to the front desk and ask for a larger robe. I was on the verge of leaving Habitude a terrible review, that is until the owner Y'nes and Kayla stepped in to save the day! Sunday I got a full foil done at the Habitude Fremont location. The individual who did it was very nice, but I could tell something was off. I came in with bright blonde hair and left with darker, brassy hair. I figured it was just the toner and that it would eventually fade, so I didn't make a big deal over it. When I got home I took a closer look in the mirror and discovered the disaster that was done to my hair. Along my hairline and part, where chunks of orange (spots) that bled out from the foil packets, as well as sections in the front of my part that were completely missed (see before pic)! I was horrified as I had an event on Thursday and could not show up looking like this. This has to have been the worst foil of my life. The next day I sent an email to their customer service address from the website, at this point I am in a full blown panic! Within 5 minutes, I received a call from the owner of the salon, Y'nes, who apologized for my experience and set out to get me booked with an expert to fix it right away. That evening I went to the Ballard location, and Kayla jumped right in. She took her time and was extremely thorough. She ended up staying an hour past closing to make sure my hair was perfect! She was able to strip out the overtones brass from my hair, and fix my hairline and make my hair brighter than ever (see after pic)! I am so grateful to Kayla and the fantastic customer service I experienced with Y'nes during this situation. I have found my new hair dresser for life, and it's' Kayla! Thank you again!! read more

Very expensive mistake going here. First, they added a $30 service charge to the bill without any advanced disclosure. My cut, which I've had many times previously looks like a helmet. Similarly to a previous reviewer (Laura G), I have sections that are raw cut and never integrated, a section on the side that's randomly 2" longer and another 2.5" shorter. I went in for a balayage (Natural/sun kissed) I came out darker with what looks like a randomly placed bleach and tone with a dramatic skunk stripe down the back of my head. There's no way the stylist could not have seen this. I offered to eat some of the $425 cost despite it requiring a redo of both cut and color, which I am out of pocket for. It was bad enough, I didn't feel comfortable having the same stylist re-work it. They agreed to refund my out of pocket and then went radio silent for over 2 weeks. I've left 9 messages for Amy and the owner ynes. They've been totally unresponsive for 3 weeks and then continue to drag this out versus simply sending a reimbursement. I never anticipated needing to leave a negative review or filing with small claims but unfortunately this salon doesn't even honor its commitments. Check the other reviews and you'll see a consistent pattern with cut/color issues between both locations for highlights and fine hair. It's not with the hassle. read more

I have been a client at Habitude for many years. I was also a Member there. I had a $250 Gift Certificate. On July 10th, I booked a 1 hour massage. When I went to pay, my bill seemed significantly higher than my last appointments. The person working there said nothing, there were no postings saying anything was different, so I asked to see my receipt. Mind you, they did not offer it. I noticed a 10% "Service Fee" on the bill. I asked what this was for, and I was informed it was for "education purposes so they don't need to raise prices." The next time I went there I received the Ultimate Facial. I was checking out and my bill was really high this time. I asked to see my receipt. It was another 10% of that total. I was very upset because if this "Service Fee" is for "educational purposes, then it should be a flat fee across the board instead of fluctuating (going up) with the total. I have listed other Salon & Spas that do not have a Service Fee, or if they do it is very nominal and reasonable. And I have provided the addresses to those Spas -- See below. I recommend giving them a try instead. I own a business, and education and things that contribute to doing business is called the cost of doing business. I do not work hard to price my clients out, as Habitude is doing. I did call to speak to a Manager after my service. Nobody answered. I left a message. Nobody called me back. I even emailed them and told them how unhappy I was over this and that it seemed very unreasonable. I never got a call back. I never got an email back and nobody from Habitude tried to reach me at all. Mind you, I have been a client for 10 plus years there. I would never treat my clients like this! I guess they don't need my business. Will they need yours, then? Probably not. Skip them. Go where you are valued. So, for example, if you get a Facial for $178. You would tip at least 20%, so that is $36.00, then there is tax at $18.24, then there's their "Service Fee" of 10% which is $17.00, so you have almost $75 of just taxes and fees before you even pay for your facial!! This is a sneaky and deceptive practice. Here's why: They don't warn you about the "Service Fee". You have to ask for the receipt. No notices. On their website it has sentence at the bottom of a page that says "Service Fee 10%" and then a button that says "Agree". Well, I don't check the website because I have been an ongoing client. Plus, I did not agree to any service fee! Especially at 10%! That is akin to a double tax. I will never go back there again. It was nothing special in the first place. My service got cancelled and when I called back to see if anyone else could cover, they offered a student, I said no thank you. When I asked if they had anyone in ballard, they gave me 2 stylists, then assigned me one. when I looked to see if I'd ever had the stylists before, I realized i had had the other stylist and called back immediately to have them switch, which they did AND sent me a confirmation text. I arrived on time and asked the front desk girl if it was possible to offer the same price point as my original stylist who cancelled and she said she'd go ask. The manager came out to tell me the first stylist they offered me would be doing my service. I said no, I have an appointment with the stylist I ended up choosing. She said no, he has another service. I said within the 5 minutes I've been sitting here, he got another service? She said yes and the other stylist would do my service, I said no she won't and walked out. That was it for me--first stylist cancels...then the manager tells me who WILL do my hair and lies about the one I had an appointment with. Horrible customer service! read more

Beware of the sneaky service charge! I was charged an additional $22 on top of my tip. No one at the salon mentioned the service charge to me. I only found this out after reading my emailed receipt. This company seems to value quantity over quality. They have many stylists and many things for sale. I've been to the Fremont and Ballard locations. Stylists at both locations managed to highlight or tone my hair in the weirdest way. A few examples include giving me uneven highlights on different hair strands, and depositing green toner vs an ash brown toner. I just had a genuinely sweet and easy going hair-care experience with one of the better and more attentive hair stylist I've ever had! I was expressing how I didn't know how to curl my hair and she gave me a tutorial, with tips and tricks and even curled my hair a little bit for me with the blow dryer . I would be remiss if I didn't recommend Gina at this salon. I never felt pressured to buy any of the products (which- admittedly, I usually do experience after a mild insults on my hair from most of the stylists I've come across before from there :( ) but not Gina! I really wish I could given her a massive tip, but I'm really low on money right now and even more in need of a haircut. Like other reviewers, I feel duped into paying the 10 percent fee that is added to services. When I called to make an appointment, I specifically asked about the price. That is what I expected to pay, plus I left a good tip, but the fee was added upon checkout. I feel completely screwed over by this fee that is tucked into your services without informing your customers upfront. It is very deceptive and dishonest. You have lost another customer because of this. It is a really poor business decision. The goal is to get and retain customers, not to make them feel like they've been taken advantage of. My hair is nothing what i asked for. I cried as soon as i got home because it is so much shorter than i wanted it to be. I asked for collar bone length and it is at my chin and not blended well at all. The stylist rushed through my haircut. i was in and out of the chair in 20 minutes with a hair wash, cut and dry and it was still full price. I will never be returning and will not be recommending this place to anyone i know.
