We love Tropics! The people are incredible, never had a sour faced.or.sullen serve there, they always care about you, and you don't feel like your just another table to them. The food is amazing, too. I highly suggest their specials, especially the all you can crab legs and the prime rib, while my daughter would tell you to get the pulled pork nachos. Tropics is our go to special occasions restaurant, we spend birthdays, anniversaries, even Christmas eve there. It's classy yet relaxed with the Hawaiian theme. Overall, I'm a fan of this place, but there were things I liked and didn't like. Definitely sit outside. They asked if we were ok with inside or outside. Originally I didn't care, but then I saw inside, which is a dark looking bar. Strong pass, I rather have the tiki bar atmosphere of outside. There's an arcade inside, which I wanted to make sure my kids didn't see too. We came in July, so it was warm outside, but in the shade with overhead fans it wasn't bad at all. I ordered a skinny margarita. It was ok, but I didn't love it. However, it got the job done. For food I got the Ahi Shoyu Poke, which I enjoyed. It was a little chewy, so don't expect top sashimi caliber, but I actually really liked it overall. My husband got oriental chicken and switched one of his sides with curly fries for the kids. The chicken was tender and the fries were pretty good. One kid got Mac and cheese, which he didn't eat, but I liked. My other son got cheese pizza. He actually liked the pineapple pizza that was on the regular menu better. They do charge automatic 20% gratuity for large parties (we had 8). Service was great though anyways. On a cool April day where else should two people go to eat and think of warmer weather? When in West Virginia we decided to go to the Tropics in form of food and decor. Upon entering we were greeted warmly, this continued even as we left. Servers were fantastic! Very attentive. Inside seating for us, this time of year but already planning to return when they have bands and sitting outside with friends. Mango vinegarette dressing accented the salad just right. I had the spare ribs which did not resemble any spare ribs I ever had and were rubbery. Wife had the fish tacos. Nothing special. They had craft beer on tap but no one could tell me anything about them. I had to search untapped for their description's. I cannot blame the server. The owners should educate them on craft beer. So nice love the ownership and how kind they. Everyone working here is super kind. Great selection of food and fun for everyone (they even have an awesome arcade and Casino I've never been in) live music on the weekends. One thing is I live out of town and when I come back I remember the special vibe of a really chill bar in Hawaii - with the people working being so personable and kind that it has always been a magnificent experience. We stopped here for lunch on our way to visit my granddaughter at Marshall University. I ordered the pulled pork/cabbage platter. I was able to substitute stir fried veggies in place of rice for no extra charge. It was absolutely delicious!--all of it! And, contrary to what another reviewer said, it was not salty (and I'm very sensitive to salt, so I would have noticed). 5 stars! My husband ordered the LocoMoco and gave it a 3 1/2 out of 5 (comparing it to Loco Moco he got in Hawaii). We sat inside, since it seemed a little chilly outside. The decor was pleasant, with fabric table cloths and napkins and some Hawaiian decorations (I think the outside was more Hawaiian than inside. They also decorated for Halloween, which was fun. Our server, Heather Lee, was pleasant and attentive, even bringing the last refill of my husband's Mountain Dew in a to go cup, along with a to go cup of water for me, all without being asked to do so. Little things mean a lot. The only negative to the atmosphere was that the music was way too loud! And, one final thought, the bathrooms were clean. I've been going here in August every year while on vacation. I've eaten lunch and dinner many times. The food is great, the service has always been wonderful, and the restaurant itself is beautiful. There is inside seating, with great ambience. I prefer the outdoor seating. You're surrounded by banana trees and it feels very tropical. I love this place! I was in the area on an errand and found this place nearby. The Tropics restaurant has both indoor and outdoor dining along with an arcade room. There is plenty of seating both indoor and out along with a bar. It is Hawaiian themed so I decided to try a pineapple chicken sandwich along with a side salad with mango vinaigrette dressing. I got the salad first and it was a decent size. The mango dressing gave it the right amount of flavor. I got my chicken sandwich shortly after. It was big, delicious and messy!! I'm glad they give you napkins at the table because I would have been asking for more. I really enjoyed it. My waitress came around periodically to check on me and I was grateful for that. This is a great place to eat if you have things to do in Cranberry Square. Located close to the start of WV 43 and I 68, they have their own parking lot. read more

Our waitress was friendly and attentive (and patient, since we were there a long time, and it took a while for our full party to assemble). She also was nice enough to take my Cucumber Fizz off the bill when I sent it back -- it had a vague taste of sour cucumber. General sense of the cocktails were that they were ok, but pretty weak on alcohol. The spring rolls were a win, and folks loved the hummus, but the chicken lettuce wraps were mostly flavorless. I'm field guy who had to cover West Virginia for a coworker on vacation. I was in a travel status for two weeks with the first week being in the Morgantown area. The second week I was scheduled to work an hour away from Morgantown, but I chose to stay at the Cranberry Hotel in Morgantown area because of the Tropics Restaurant and Bar next door. This place was such a treat to come to once restaurants reopened! Our first visit was actually during the pandemic, and we were very excited to visit. Like another reviewer noted, the restaurant is nothing like what you would expect just from driving up from the parking lot. Very boring, lots of concrete from that view! Once you walk around back, it's super cute. A very classy tiki restaurant. I expected it to be cheesy, but it actually wasn't! I haven't been inside, so no thoughts on that, but the outside ambience is great, and also huge. Lots and lots of seating available. Our server was very nice, and prompt. Everything also came out at a good pace. Especially our appetizers! Very quickly. We ordered two cocktails to start - I got a tiki style one, of course, and it was delicious. The drink menu is just large enough to have fun with, but not so overwhelming that you can't make a decision. They of course have a full bar to make other drinks as well. The food was more of a 3 star place, from what we ordered at least? What we got was good, just not 5 star restaurant great. But that's not why you're coming here. You're coming here from good service, good food, and a great atmosphere. That's definitely good enough for me! If the food was fine dining quality, you'd have to pay a TON more. We really did enjoy the pork eggrolls too, I probably could have eaten another order! Also love their weekly specials. We enjoy Tropics food and service. The atmosphere is a bit loud as the music is usually turned up. The pork nachos are incredible. My son's burger was overdone and needed to be recooked. I am submitting this review as a warning about pricing. If you order 12 wings, do not split the order into two sauces as you will be charged $22.00 instead of the stated $16.00 on the menu. You will be charged for 2 orders of 6 wings each. We have ordered before and requested the order be split between two sauces and were not charged extra. However, on our visit on April 27, 2025, I received the $22.00 charge. I complained that $6.00 is a very large difference and was told that they always charge that way. They have not on my past visits. After some conversation, the manager said she would adjust the price this one time. If you order the sauces on the side, there is no extra charge. I am very disappointed at this difference in price just for the kitchen to toss your wings in separate sauces. Perhaps a $1.00 or $2.00 but, even at that there is not that much sauce on the wings. It is a 45 minute drive to Tropics for me and now I am thinking I will just go 20 minutes to Buffalo Wild Wings the next time I get a wing craving. It is the small things that can ruin your experience and there are plenty of choices. I am sad that this happened. It truly will be a deterrent to me going there in the future. read more

Well, had lunch there today. There was a DJ and the pre-performance music was loud. Crazy loud. We asked if they could turn it down but the waitress said she's tried a few times (for other tables) and they refused. Once the singer started the volume was much better. The kalua pork nachos were good - but I don't care for the blue and red chips (that seemed to run color on the plate?) The short ribs were partially cooked, partially raw. I did like them, but I think other folks might balk at raw short rib. The flourless chocolate cake - daughter loved it. I think if the music wasn't so freaking loud the experience would have been better. Waitress was great. Service was super fast. Place has a lot of promise. And Polynesian food is salty. I get that. This was out first dining experience in months due to Covid and it was glorious! Wednesdays is AYCE crabs and so that's what we did. Outside tables were safely distanced from one another and the staff wore masks. We were greeted and ordered drinks. I started out with the raspberry long island iced tea. It was sweet, tart, and perfect. The AYCE crabs come with a side salad, corn, and some hush puppies. But I would not be distracted. I nibbled lightly and awaited my crabs. They arrived quickly and were great. Service did start to get a little inconsistent, but I understand they had reopened not too long ago. We had to remind them about drinks we ordered, but the guy who brought around the crab was on top of it. We never ran out. The outdoor dining was wonderful and it's not what you expect as you pull into the parking lot. It's relaxing and backs into a golf course. It's feels like you're at a tiki type bar, but it's not cheesy. Definitely worth the visit if your in the area and want to feel like your on vacation. read more

We have eaten there twice. First time was amazing. Tonight a little less. Good service. Food was hot. My dinner( pulled pork)was VERY salty to the point I could not eat it. The biggest disappointment is sitting between a exterior door and the casino door. They have a smoking receptacle right outside the door. I have a cigarette allergy, The clouds of smoke coming in and out for the casino was way too much for me. We will go back to the restaurant. My husband loves the all you can eat crab. Very late review, sorry. Last year my family hosted a brunch for around 30 people. We chose the deluxe brunch buffet from the catering menu, and asked for it to be delivered. Maria was very helpful and worked with us on the menu and delivery, and it turned out perfectly. Everyone said the food was great and there was a huge variety. Also plenty of it - I was concerned about this having never used catering for a meal before, but didn't need to worry. Would definitely use them again. read more
