I really wanted to like this place. unfortunately it was not that great. The tables were sticky the floors were sticky in general the entire place was dirty. The food was average. The hummus was probably the worst hummus I've ever had in my life. Completely flavorless and tasted water down even though what appeared to be the owner and cookk said he just made a fresh batch and was taking it out of the mixer. I don't think there was any garlic or seasoning in it at all. This is not a sit down type of restaurant. This is more like a fast food restaurant. You order your food and then you take it and sit down yourself. I asked for a glass of water and was told that they don't give water. But that I must buy a bottled water that was almost $2. dollars. Eventually they did give me a glass of water. That's ridiculous a restaurant where you can't get a glass of tapwater. They have fresh lemonades that they make so we bought one of those. When we sat down to drink it, it was a block of ice. It was completely frozen. We were not offered a different one that wasn't completely frozen. This is definitely a typical college town,hole in the wall, small type of local restaurant. I won't be going back. read more

Such a cute little gem we found. This restaurant has so much charm when you first walk in with their creative menu board that made ordering so much easier. Casual sitting area inside but we opted for the outside sidewalk tables they had. Burgers were amazing, you can taste the high quality of the beef. Troy is a favorite place for my wife & I to visit after a long bike ride (we enjoy being able to sit outdoors & eat our meal). We absolutely LOVE the fact that we can pick the "extras" to go on our selection. I am of middle-eastern descent (Lebanese); my dad was an excellent cook, especially the way he could prepare lamb. Most restaurants cannot come close to preparing lamb the way I remember my father doing it. So many times I have ordered a lamb dish, only to be disappointed by the quality of the cut and/or preparation. Troy, however, prepares their lamb in a way very reminiscent of the way my father did. So much so that Troy is now the only restaurant where I will order lamb. Once a week (except winter) I bike with friends I worked with (we are all retired for several years now). When in Kent for lunch, they often like to pick different places to eat. Many times I "bike over" to Troy, get my meal, then "bike back over" to where my friends are eating (not the best etiquette to bring in another restaurant's food, but no one has yet to take exception to me doing so). For me, there is only one restaurant in Kent to visit, and that is Troy. read more

When you order, it's kind of chipotle style where you pick the toppings you want. If you haven't tried kofte before, I highly recommend it. It's a meatball that was a beef/lamb mixture. The kofte pita and Troy is really tasty. The falafel pita was good too, but I there were only about 3 pieces of falafel. I feel like similar restaurants in the area give you pita chips or rice as a side with your pita/wrap, and they don't do that here. It's more a la carte I suppose, which can get pricey. I had the pita and a side of falafel with no drink and it was about $12. One thing I love is that when you walk in, they have a picture of every meal there, which is great for someone who has never tried this type of food. I'm still partial to those other similar Greek/Mediterranean/Turkish restaurants, but I still enjoy Troy. Realistically at a 3.5 probably. read more

Hummus, pretty decent. Smooth, mild flavor. Tzatziki sauce, decent. Good ratio of herbs and cucumbers to yogurt. Halloumi cheese was tasty, served with green apples as a nice compliment. Rice was slightly more plump than it should have been. BUT, as much as I was excited to get something different and enjoy some middle eastern food.... this wasn't a spot to which I will ever return. You simply cannot make up a dish like "chicken Istanbul" and still be proud of your cooking. Sorry if this sounds harsh, but it was like bad sloppy joes with chicken. read more

So, I stumbled upon this place a few months ago while walking downtown in Kent looking for something different to eat. Needless to say, I've been back several times since. I have only tried one thing called Chicken Instabul. Its chicken cooked in a red sauce and cheese. I get it in a bowl with brown rice, lettuce, corn and mozzarella cheese. This time I added feta cheese to it as well. Its a nice small spot and its in a great location. You will have a little wait if its packed because all the food is made fresh when you order and I believe the owner is the only cook. But it's worth the wait. I always carry my food to go but if I were to eat there, I believe they have music and a tv. The decor is nice and the menu is written in chalk which is pretty impressive. Troy Grille is a quaint spot run by the owner and one or two other people. We arrived right when they opened, and the owner hadn't even arrived to open the doors yet. We waited outside, and he was quick to tend us when we got in. The food was good (my friends and I got different variations of the Istanbul chicken and the chicken shawarma) but the service was a little confusing. The format of the place is that you order at the counter, then go sit to wait, and then when you notice your order is ready you go up to pick your toppings and sides. However, I don't know if it was because it was right when they opened, but we had to wait close about 20 minutes for our food. Then when we went up, they were not the clearest at explaining the process of what options we got. For a regular, this would be fine, but as most of my friends and I had never even, it was a little off putting. If you are going for the first time, I would make sure to ask lots of questions to make sure you're getting what you want. However, they were all really nice and the food was delicious, so still giving 4 stars! read more

The friend was absolutely loving the chicken, but I did not try it since I don't eat chicken. As for the falafel, it was good but not memorable...
