The condition of hotel is great and very clean. Breakfast was delicious and we had a variety of things from waffles to hot food to cereal, fruit, etc. The pool was heated, which made for relaxing swims and the hot tub was nice and hot, like a hot tub should be. Trust me, we've stayed at so many that they're barely luke warm and it's not worth it. They take pride in the upkeep, cleanliness and care of the pool area as well as the hotel itself. We wanted to stay an extra night and the owner personally booked it and gave us a wonderful deal, and he even let me grab a bowl of cereal to take my meds with. The hotel is in a wonderful location with Hy-vee, Fareway, Dollar General, Walmart, Mc.D's, and other food places close by as well as gas stations. Lastly, I'd like to add that I was very happy with the safety of the hotel. Being in a safe place knowing that I don't have to worry about my vehicle or taking my dog out at night is one of my highest priorities. So, if you find yourself needing a place around the Des Moines area, go the little extra and stay in Grimes @ the Red Lion. You won't be disappointed!

We didn't want to drive much further. It was getting late so I looked for a hotel in the Des Moines area. This popped up right off the freeway so we decided to give it a try. As we walked in, we immediately noticed all the nice decor and artwork. It was beautifully decorated for the holidays as well. The front desk attendant was very nice and quickly got us settled down we would have time to grab a bite to eat before the kitchen closed. The room was nice and clean. Bed & pillows very comfortable. Plenty of towels, soap, shampoo and conditioner. Robes! We liked all the modern touches. My only issue is what I have with almost all hotels. While I very much appreciate a coffee maker in the room, hotels always add decaf coffee instead of additional regular coffee. Who drinks decaf? So you need to make the extra trip downstairs to ask for regular coffee. We went to the bar/restaurant downstairs for drinks, a bite to eat and to watch Thursday night football. First, the bar is very cool with a pool table and several TV's. Nice wall art and comfortable barstools. Sadly, they don't offer any streaming of any kind in this hotel so there was no way to watch the NFL games on their TV's at the bar or in the rooms. Fortunately, I was able to get it in my phone app but could not project to their regular TV's. Our bartenders were Eddie at first, then Tyler who took over towards the end of the night. Both bartenders were super attentive and friendly. For food, we ordered the Burrata, chicken wings and the Revel Flatbread. The wings were nice and crispy, the burrata yummy and the flatbread was thin and crispy. All were actually delicious which I wouldn't normally expect from a small hotel. Very nice! The hotel offers a free buffet breakfast to guests as well as made to order. Honestly the buffet breakfast has everything from hot to cold. It has a toaster and microwave if needed. It was quite a spread. Plenty of juice & milk varieties. The food was delicious. They also offer free bottled water if you run out of water in the room. Overall we really enjoyed our stay. We were probably two if twenty guests in the hotel which was very surprising as it is a decent price for what you receive overall as a guest. I would definitely recommend the hotel if you are passing through.

The Revel Hotel is a beautiful, relatively new boutique hotel that is part of Hilton's Tapestry collection. The hotel pays homage to local Midwest culture in an elegant and visually stunning way. From the lobby's western decor to the minor details within the guest rooms, no detail was spared in the design of this space. It boasts modern amenities while preserving the classic perks folks love, including complimentary breakfast for hotel guests. There is a restaurant and bar on-site, offering breakfast, lunch, dinner, and staying open late for drinks. The only downside is that the bar and lobby are located in the same area, and at least on the weekend we visited, it got a bit loud in the evening, which made me feel bad for any rooms on the first floor. To play it safe, if you're a light sleeper, I'd recommend a room on a higher floor. I also wasn't too fond of the fact that there is no pool on this property. If you'd like to use the pool, you must walk over to the neighboring "Hotel Renovo", which is their sister hotel, use your key card, bring your room towels, use the pool, and then walk back. This commute is a bit inconvenient, especially when traveling with little ones and older adults, which is the only reason I didn't award this stay five stars. The hospitality here was fantastic. We were warmly greeted by a young lady named Tania, who went above and beyond to ensure our welcome and stay were nothing short of spectacular. She texted me before our arrival to ask if there were anything we would need, as well as throughout our stay to check in and provide any assistance if needed. She greeted us with complimentary, ice-cold water bottles. I loved and appreciated all of those touches. Check-in was uncomplicated through the Hilton app. All Tania confirmed was my identity using my ID and provided physical key cards if we wanted them. Otherwise, we could use the mobile key cards accessible through the Hilton app. Less than 15 mins! Check-out was equally as simple; no need to stop by the front desk if you used the app. Our stay was so exceptional that I've considered returning exclusively to enjoy the hotel and all its amenities thoroughly. Until I return, I'm recommending them to anyone who finds themselves in this neck of the woods.

On my recent trip to Sturgis, I stayed at Hampton Inn & Suites properties along the way. While most of my experiences were excellent -- especially at the other Hampton and Embassy Suites hotels -- I had a very disappointing stay at one particular Hampton Inn. At this property, the shower did not work, the bathroom door handle was broken so the door could not shut, and the towel holder was also broken. The most unsettling issue was that when I got into bed, I found black hairs and sand in the sheets. To make matters worse, I had to wait until 2:30 AM to receive a top sheet, even though I had a 10-hour motorcycle ride the next day. I attempted to reach out to the manager, Derek Hood but never received a response. I later called Hilton directly, and I was grateful that your team listened and worked to make things right. I still love Hampton Inn & Suites and Embassy Suites, but I want other travelers to be aware that this specific Hampton Inn was not up to Hilton standards. It was one of the worst hotel stays I've ever had, and I cannot recommend stopping there.

When did this start happening. Isn't it standard hotel procedure to refresh the room daily? 2) They slid my invoice under the room door very early in the morning (it was there when I woke up at 5:45am) on checkout day. I am not a fan of having my personal information slid under a door. All it takes is a tiny bit of human error and then someone has bits a pieces of my personal info and certainly enough to start charging items to the room. And my biggest issue of all ... 3) The "fitness center" is a complete joke and cannot be referred to as a fitness center. I don't expect very much out of hotel fitness centers, but this was a storage closet with 2 ellipticals, 2 treadmills and a dumbbell rack squeezed into a room the size of a closet. There wasn't even enough space to get down and do some push ups or sit ups. It's a complete slap in the face to anyone who books there and wants to get in a workout. I actually had to go seek out a gym in the area, and pay them, in order to get my workout in when I should have been able to do that at the hotel since they advertise a "fitness center." If working out is a priority to you, completely avoid this hotel.

She wrote me a hand written colorful card and left it outside my door. This made my heart so happy. For it was what I needed. This Best Western is clearly run by hospitable, welcoming people who know what they're doing. The only critique I have is that the elevator buttons seemed a little old, but they were still working properly. I felt well taken care of, cozy and comfortable, and all at a reasonable price. I would stay there again for sure. I can't wait to have another hot chocolate by their fireside in the lobby. Keep it up, you guys! I had such an amazing time. We'll be back!
