There is a small playground by the hotel and the Ankeny public library is also within walking distance. We booked two rooms with king-sized beds for our stay. The rooms are slightly smaller than the other Hilton king-size bedrooms that we have stayed at. But it is enough space for our purposes and it is equipped with a mini refrigerator, desk, and small bench. The mini refrigerator has an upper "freezer" section but it did not serve its purpose and our reusable ice-packs did not freeze up. The complimentary bathroom toiletry is interesting. They are squirt bottles attached to the wall and there are instructions indicating a gentle squeeze would do. But it never seems to work properly. It's either too little or too much. We had to ask for room service to replenish a few items. It seemed like they were short-staffed because we ended up going downstairs to pick up the items. There is complimentary parking and breakfast. Breakfast is served from 6 am to 10 am. We had a variety of the usual eggs, potatoes, sausages, and baked goods. There is also a pancake, waffle, and cereal station. The staff was efficient in keeping up with the demand. We also made use of the indoor pool on both nights around 8 pm. There were other young children in the pool with us but everybody was friendly and it did not feel over-crowded.

This time we found the Hotel to be exceptionally quiet, well appointed for the level of the hotel, and a good place to stay to catch a few winks and then continue our journey. There was one thing that was disappointing and that was the lack of a complimentary breakfast. In the past they had an extensive and excellent breakfast that was a draw for us. I am not sure if the change was a seasonal decision or if the hotel is simply not getting the number of reservations necessary to support that service. Whatever the reason it is a clear distinction between this property and others are the same level and reaching the same customer base. f that is something you want in your hotel stay, you will need to look somewhere else. After all there are at least 6 hotels/motels within about 3 blocks of each other including this one. Overall, this is a nice, quiet, well done hotel. However, in comparison to other Hiltons, this place seemed stuck in the 1990's. The room was ok, but while I stayed there the gym and pool were both closed for renovations. I noticed in the kitchen in the suite that some of the drawers had stuff from previous guests, including rusty utensils, which I found really odd, like I was staying at Grandma's house. When I tried to check out, the computer system was down due to a staffer forgetting the login. This hotel is fine for quick business travel. The hotel has so much potential, but it is dated. I would not stay here on a vacation unless it was half the price.

Check-in staff was extremely rude. The walls are paper thin. The hotel needs some serious cleaning and updates, the carpets have stains throughout and smells like an old Las Vegas hotel - full of smoke smell. The worst of it was ordering from the on site restaurant. I ordered the $15 burger, and after taking three bites, the frozen patty was still cold. I could not eat anymore. The Jacuzzi is also closed for some unknown reason. On site water bubbler was not in service the entire time I was there, so they expect to you to use tapwater for the coffee machines provided in each room. How can you not provide fresh water for your guests? They also don't clean your room daily and blame it on Covid. I travel all over the nation and why in Iowa of all places, do they not clean your room and attribute it to Covid? To top it off, I'm in elite member with a Marriott already staying over 40 nights this year in their properties and am transitioning to Hilton as we speak because I continue to be unimpressed by their properties and lack of decent customer experience.
