Seniors, people with disabilities or young children should not stay at this hotel. I'm an 80 y.o. Disabled Army Veteran, we rented 4 rooms for 3 days for our family of 12, including a baby. The hotel had Zero staff to help with anything, only a check-in lady to charge our credit card. Rates are very expensive compared to other nearby downtown hotels with assistance, staff, services and amenities. Below are our notes: *I had to struggle to park our car, get our luggage to our room, then, get it back downstairs, retrieve the car and load it myself. Seniors and people needing assistance beware. *Only self park across street only & very expensive *There were flying bugs in the we had to kill *Unsafe. The only staff are the one or two people at the front desk 24-7. *Only one room key worked. *No room makeup until you leave *No towel service. Extras needed were unavailable. Told to come back in the afternoon when some "might be available". *Towels had holes in them *No manager on duty to assist guests with anything until we checked out *There are no guest or housekeeping. *There was an accident in a child's bed which required a sheet change. We made 2 requests. The twice guaranteed bedding change was never made. *The room phone was broken Only speaker worked *Ice only on 2 top floors *Only one coffee mug in the room. *Tiny coffee maker in room broken *Requested an extra blanket for baby, told "none available" *Luke warm coffee at breakfast "Free" breakfast was of lower quality than a Budget Inn *No restaurant or lounge. *Toilet seat broken *Wifi barely worked *No drinking glasses in bathroom *No extra blanket in rooms *A $50 charge was added on our credit card for nonexistent "ammenities" *No luggage carts to take luggage to room. This hotel is below what you would get in a hostel. It's the worst Hyatt we ever stayed in. The disrespect of the hotel for its guests resulted in our intent to cancel our Hyatt membership after 40+ years. Hyatt needs to set higher standards and monitor the investors who are responsible for this hotel.

I enjoyed my 3 night stay at this Hyatt. My room was more spacious than I expected, which made for a great first impression. The TV is on a swivel and can face the bed or the living room area. The closet, sink, and bathroom are in a separate room. I checked in late and went right to bed. Unfortunately I was awakened during the night by someone else trying to get in to my room. Thankfully i had the extra lock locked so they could not open the door. There was some kind of mix up on the rooms, but I didn't have to give up my nice spacious room so that it was just a blip in an otherwise nice stay. Breakfast post covid is not a good as it used to be in any Hyatt. But there was a good selection of breakfast sandwiches, muffins, & bagels to keep me satisfied. Staff was helpful and friendly, as I have come to expect at any Hyatt. The downtown location meant I could walk many of the places I visited. I would definitely stay here again.

This was a decent hyatt place. The staff are very friendly and the location is great. I was able to walk to several food places and buildings downtown. They also have a shuttle available which was really convenient. They have the basic hyatt place breakfast which is nice if you have jt added on for free, but I wouldn't pay for it. The reason for 3 stars was the room itself. I liked the layout and it serves its purpose but there were a few areas that could have benefitted from additional cleaning. I'm not sure the floor in my bathroom was ever cleaned.. not very welcoming. However, the bed was comfortable for a hotel bed and everything else seemed somewhat taken care of. I'd still stay here again, just for a quick no-frills trip.

Well it's a typical chain hotel. Not many folks here live their job but my stay was comfortable. It's an old hotel reinvented to be a Hyatt place. Sofa and rooms need a good scrubbing and maybe even a makeover. Beds comfy and overall pretty clean. Breakfast was delish! Be sure to wake up for it. Love the healthy and fresh options.

Complimentary breakfast for world of Hyatt members.

I always love to stay with Hyatt. The staff is always amazing, friendly and helpful. The rooms appear newly renovated and were very clean. The location is right near the Convention Center, so we stayed before a concert. The hotel turned out to be connected via skywalk, which was great! They serve a full breakfast spread in the morning, which is complimentary for World of Hyatt members. The food stations were immaculate and the food all fresh and hot.

    Bed was a sink hole

Dirty disgusting dangerous and unprepared. The bed was a sink hole worn out worse than my dorm bed in the 80 and it has more puke on it than my college bed. Got up for breakfast at 7 am sharp and they were out of almost everything. Almost got ran over in the lot they share with an apt. Building next door. Told the kid to slow down and rather than apologize he spit on us which legally speaking is an assault. The homeless also were in the garage. DO NOT STAY HERE.

I was very pleased my with room here, it was huge and had all I needed. The bed was very comfortable and I really enjoyed having all the space, the fridge, coffee maker etc. The breakfast was nice if you want to carb load. No gluten free options other than eggs really. Pretty disappointing. They have a no frills workout room with bike, treadmill, elliptical and dumbbell set. It was a tiny room but better than nothing. I'd stay again, I'll just need to bring my own breakfast. Not sure why we can't have vegetables for breakfast.

    More mold. Yuck.
    M G.

Let's start with the positives. The hotel staff is friendly, and the breakfast was good. However, I hope I never have to stay here again. The bathroom was gross. It was moldy and dirty in the corners. My co-worker had to change rooms twice for the same issue. The person downstairs told her the mold was probably embedded in the grout. Yuck! I decided not to change rooms because I didn't want to keep changing like my co-worker. I told the person downstairs about the issue, she said she would let someone know. .. nothing happened with that. The next day I told the manager and then my shower was bleached. If Hyatt is reading this, this hotel either needs a DEEP clean of the rooms are to be refurbished...the sofa is gross (I didn't sit on it because it looked dingy).

I've been here at the Des Moines downtown Hilton hotel and am appalled at how terrible of a job…read moretheir housekeeping did on our room after our first day. They did a terrible job with our beds- it looks like a kid did it or whoever did it just did a rush job and it's obvious they didn't try at all. The bathroom clearly wasn't touched at all. The sink still had a used hand towel and the surface wasn't wiped down, the trash wasn't changed, and all they did was swap out the floor bath towel. Our toilet still had marks from usage and they didn't clean it. Then the trash can in the living area was also not changed even though it was full, and our coffee supplies were not restocked. I tried to use the phones in the room to call room service and they didn't even work. So I had to call the front desk with my cell, and I was pissed- still am. Whoever did the housekeeping job for our room was awful. I'm not that harsh or picky with hotels but for Hilton, I expected much better service. We are Honors members as well. This is highly disappointing. The front desk sent an employee to restock our coffee bar and give us new towels, she didn't even apologize to me once. She asked me what trash needed to be changed, and then she put the bathroom trash can onto the bathroom sink to change it... and didn't wipe the sink down after. Then she left. Said nothing else, didn't ask if we needed anything. Made zero comments about anything. I wouldn't recommend staying here if their housekeeping service says anything about this specific Hilton. I barely complain about hotel service and am usually pretty understanding having worked in customer service myself, but this was absolutely not okay. They also promised us a room on the 8th floor and then changed us to the 4th floor hours into our check in day, and whoever was above our room was moving around/talking super loudly from 12am-6am, with spouts of coughing and puking. Not a huge deal for the noise since you can't control people, but now I'm pissed about housekeeping and want to rant about more. The plugs are also loose by the bedside tables/lamps, so your phone may not charge without you realizing until later. Overall- the housekeeping job, their service, as well as the attitude of the employee that came to the room after I complained to the front desk makes me wonder just how clean the hotel room really is. It's unprofessional and SO lazy. I do not recommend Hilton Des Moines Downtown. Edit: Next day after- I asked the front desk for the GM's card and talked to the front desk again about the housekeeping from yesterday. They apologized and I showed pictures and told them how the phones were also not working. Just got back to our room after having been gone all day, and when we left, they had people cleaning rooms in our hall at like 11am. It is 5pm now and they still haven't cleaned our room today. My brother saw one of the cleaners and he was just sitting in one of the other rooms on his phone not doing anything. I hate this hotel. Terrible service, unprofessional, and extremely lazy workers. I highly recommend going elsewhere like the Marriott. I expected much better from Hilton, especially being an Honors member. The walls are also very thin. While both times we visited showed two different slew of emotions, the consistent variable was the stay at the Surety. This hotel is beyond accommodating and gives a very cool vibe of old and new and is beyond successful at it. There were several of us that stayed here recently and the staff and management couldn't have been more accommodating. We had lunch one day at the restaurant and the server was accommodating as service was ending at 2p (our order was placed around 1:58p for about 6-8 of us). Later we were told by one of the GM's (Tim?) that would change as they look to remove the time constraints. This is my experience and do with it what you want…read more I've always had good luck with Embassy Suites by Hilton. This place was a letdown in just about every way. Check-in was super easy as we didn't have to go to the front counter until later on in the evening to get physical cards for the other couples in our room. We got digital keys so we were able to go right up to our room and drop our things off. Before we do that, we normally take pictures of the room just in case there's incidentals or something else. With that being said, I will post pictures of my disappointment with this room. We paid over $250 a night for this room and we're staying 2 nights. The Master room had a King bed, and the second room has 2, I'm going to say double beds, they weren't Queens. There was plenty of room for clothes and what not. There was a small refrigerator along with a microwave. And of course, a coffee pot with coffee pods. There was a couple of bottles of water in the room, but at a cost of $6 if you used them. It was stated on them. The bathroom was tiny! For a room that can have 6 people in it. I wish the sink would have been outside of the toilet and shower area. The exhaust fan also didn't work in the bathroom so the humidity built up from taking a shower and some of the unpleasant odors stuck around. This room was in desperate need of updates! From the carpet being stretched out and written down, and the dusty encrusted cobwebs by the air vents on the ceiling. The tables being worn and wasn't even a chair at the desk in the king-sized bedroom. Most windows, you can open up a couple of inches, and there's a screen on them. Not these in both rooms, they were sealed and bolted shut\n Which kind of sucked in the master bedroom? Because there was no way to regulate the temperature in that room. The fitness area looked pretty decent. There was one couple in our group that did use it and didn't have any complaints. I did use the pool and I have to say, there was disappointment here too. The water itself was cloudy. I was in the five foot deep area and not able to see my feet. Also was extremely chlorinated. To the point where even with your eyes closed in the water, they still burned when you opened them out of the water. There was no shower in the pool area to rinse off before or after you swim. Their hotel bar is quaint, for lack of a better word. Be aware that they do not accept cash. So you either have to charge your room or pay with a credit card. I think the price is what you would expect to pay in a hotel. The mixed drinks were expensive, over ten dollars. But a bottle of Coor's Light was only seven dollars. Parking is right across the street in a parking garage. Dollar per hour or ten dollars per day One saving grace for this place is their complementary Happy Hour drink, and Continental breakfast. The Continental breakfast has a lot going on. You have your Toast, cereal, yogurt, scrambled eggs, sausage, French toast, (muffins, bagels, bread with a nice toaster set up) and a really good omelet station where you can get bacon! Prom was going on over the weekend we stayed, so there was a lot of underage kids there running around till late. There was an issue about 1 AM from a group of them fighting along the second and third floor balcony areas where several cops had to show up to break it up. I don't know what all came of it, I went back to sleep. I didn't interact with a lot of the staff, but the ones I did interact with were great. The bartender was hit-or-miss, but the omelet station lady was awesome. Guest services was good when we went to get keys made. Housekeeping didn't knock on the door the morning of checkout, we did online for that as well, before they entered the room. He just used his card key to come in in the morning to clean. We got to interrupted making our plans for the day.

We drove 14 hours so our…read moreson could participate in the Junior Olympics, only to spend our first night trying to resolve issues with our room instead of getting the rest we needed before his competition. First, the refrigerator in our room did not work. Even worse, there were ants throughout the room. This is completely unacceptable for a Hilton property. We reported both issues to the front desk, but were told there was nothing they could do. We then contacted Hilton corporate, only to be told they couldn't help either. To make matters worse, there wasn't a manager available at the hotel, and no manager was available through the corporate customer service line either. It was incredibly frustrating to have no one with the authority to address or resolve these issues. What made this experience even more disappointing was the complete lack of urgency, accountability, and customer service. After a 14 hour drive, the last thing any family should have to do is stay up all night trying to resolve problems that should have been handled immediately. When you stay at a Hilton, you expect a clean, functional room and customer service that stands behind the brand. Unfortunately, we received neither. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend this hotel. I hope management takes these concerns seriously and makes the necessary improvements so future guests don't have to endure the same experience.
