This was one of the best hotel experiences I have had in the long-time for a great price. Our room was WAY more spacious than I could have ever imagined and was bright and new looking. The beds were super comfortable and it was located right downtown near lots of restaurants and bars which was fantastic. The sink was outside of the bathroom which was helpful so if someone was in the bathroom someone else can still be getting ready at the sink. I was shocked by the full length windows we had which brought great natural light into the room and we event had a couch in the room to spread out stuff out and a mini-fridge which was great. Everyone at the hotel was extremely polite and helpful and the front desk was more than happy to answer our many questions whenever we had them. Parking is $30 if you use the hotel lot but we found free parking on the bridge about a 10 minute walk away which was great. The included breakfast was fantastic as well-a nice choice of hot items including eggs, French toast, sausage and bacon as well as fresh made oatmeal with topics, breads/muffins, fresh fruit and various cereals to choose from including the option for Almond milk as well as Orange and Apple Juice. I will absolutely be staying at this hotel again if I am again in Des Moines-I cannot say enough good things about this place! read more

This place is gross. Moldy showers! The carpet in the rooms is so dirty it ruined our socks. We received 4 different answers from staff regarding the housekeeping schedule. The maids would say they cleaned, but had not. I took pictures before we left on two separate days, came back to the room exactly the same. Very overpriced, outdated, dirty, and poorly maintained. Seniors, people with disabilities or young children should not stay at this hotel. I'm an 80 y.o. Disabled Army Veteran, we rented 4 rooms for 3 days for our family of 12, including a baby. The hotel had Zero staff to help with anything, only a check-in lady to charge our credit card. Rates are very expensive compared to other nearby downtown hotels with assistance, staff, services and amenities. Below are our notes: *I had to struggle to park our car, get our luggage to our room, then, get it back downstairs, retrieve the car and load it myself. Seniors and people needing assistance beware. *Only self park across street only & very expensive *There were flying bugs in the we had to kill *Unsafe. The only staff are the one or two people at the front desk 24-7. *Only one room key worked. *No room makeup until you leave *No towel service. Extras needed were unavailable. Told to come back in the afternoon when some "might be available". *Towels had holes in them *No manager on duty to assist guests with anything until we checked out *There are no guest or housekeeping. *There was an accident in a child's bed which required a sheet change. We made 2 requests. The twice guaranteed bedding change was never made. *The room phone was broken Only speaker worked *Ice only on 2 top floors *Only one coffee mug in the room. *Tiny coffee maker in room broken *Requested an extra blanket for baby, told "none available" *Luke warm coffee at breakfast "Free" breakfast was of lower quality than a Budget Inn *No restaurant or lounge. *Toilet seat broken *Wifi barely worked *No drinking glasses in bathroom *No extra blanket in rooms *A $50 charge was added on our credit card for nonexistent "ammenities" *No luggage carts to take luggage to room. The disrespect of the hotel for its guests resulted in our intent to cancel our Hyatt membership after 40+ years. The only thing this Hyatt has going for it is the location. It is right in downtown and very convenient. Outside of that, it's terrible. I stay at Hyatt every time I travel. This is the worst location I've ever been to. I was there for four days. The room was never cleaned during our stay, it smelled musty and old along with the hallways, it and has one working elevator. I enjoyed my 3 night stay at this Hyatt. My room was more spacious than I expected, which made for a great first impression. The TV is on a swivel and can face the bed or the living room area. The closet, sink, and bathroom are in a separate room. I checked in late and went right to bed. Unfortunately I was awakened during the night by someone else trying to get in to my room. Thankfully i had the extra lock locked so they could not open the door. There was some kind of mix up on the rooms, but I didn't have to give up my nice spacious room so that it was just a blip in an otherwise nice stay. Breakfast post covid is not a good as it used to be in any Hyatt. But there was a good selection of breakfast sandwiches, muffins, & bagels to keep me satisfied. This is a truly awful hotel. Dated. Dirty (the bed comforters had dark stains on them, there was visible mold on the shower curtains and the carpeted floor was sticky). Over-priced (as much as the full-service Marriott a block away and parking was a lot more). With some of the rudest staff we've ever encountered. The adjacent rooms we reserved (we wanted to be next to our children) weren't available when we checked in. We received other rooms for the night but the desk attendant said we could have a room next to our room the next day, as soon as the existing guest checked out and the room was cleaned. We kept checking back all day. They said they were cleaning it and would bring the key to us. Then, after several hours, the manager Pam overruled the front desk attendant and said she didn't want to clean our childrens' room too so she wouldn't move then to the room they said we could have. I booked here at the last minute on a Monday. This being my first visit to Des Moines, I didn't realize they rolled up the sidewalks in downtown before 8pm. This hotel seems to be a great location for downtown but everything was closed. The girl at the front desk was friendly and made some good suggestions. Check-in was east and parking is in a garage directly across the street from the lobby. The room was your typical Hyatt Place style. It was clean, quiet and the bed comfortable. They offer a free breakfast but I didn't make it down for it. Checkout was easy and the bill accurate. I don't know if I'll ever be back in Des Moines but I'd stay here again. read more

This was a decent hyatt place. The staff are very friendly and the location is great. I was able to walk to several food places and buildings downtown. They also have a shuttle available which was really convenient. They have the basic hyatt place breakfast which is nice if you have jt added on for free, but I wouldn't pay for it. The reason for 3 stars was the room itself. I liked the layout and it serves its purpose but there were a few areas that could have benefitted from additional cleaning. I'm not sure the floor in my bathroom was ever cleaned.. not very welcoming. However, the bed was comfortable for a hotel bed and everything else seemed somewhat taken care of. This Hyatt is a special dose of misery, and I will never again stay in a Hyatt hotel for as long as I draw breath. First of all, you are in down town Des Moines, Iowa and if you land after 5, you are not eating, the sidewalks are rolled up, fine, that is normal in small towns. These rooms have no microwave, a fridge that does not work and faucets which leak top and bottom of the sink. There is no store in the hotel either, no little shop just a really, really bad breakfast. Frozen entrées from Walmart would be preferable, but hey, no way to heat up food in your room. Each floor shares a hot water heater, so about 6:00 AM, all that hot water is gone and in my experience, takes about 3 hours to come back. Our room smelled like pure mildew, this is in the top suite for the record, not the lower rooms where they truly do not care. The Air Conditioning is beyond loud and is either on or off, so you either freeze or bake, the thermostat either does nothing or is mounted in another building in another state. When you give this place your credit card for incidentals, they actually go ahead and just start charging you over and over for random stuff, and when you ask, they literally do not know what the fees are. So Hyatt does not train their employees, not a shocker, they just dangle them in front of angry guests to protect themselves from having to justify their charges. The elevators. OMG, there is one working elevator in this entire hotel. I was 20 minutes late for work here because I waited 20 minutes for an elevator and did not have a way to haul my luggage down 8 floors of stairs. Do not stay in this hotel, I am dead serious, it is bad for your health. Combine the mold/mildew on the carpets and ceilings, the no-view where all you see is graffiti and hey, more mold, yum. There are tons of homeless who sleep in the garage and surrounding alleys, you cannot walk anywhere without being harassed with everyone's sob story, this has happened twice a day since I have been here. The hotel does nothing about it, you report something to them and they always have to "Call my manager" The parking garage here smells like pure urine. Yes, Urine. And it is super pungent I smelled it from across the street. I imagine from all the homeless who live in there, and then they charge $18 a day to park in there. I would recommend not parking there, because again, DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL. The pool is a glorified bathtub. It is more like a cold hot tub without jets, also, smells like pure urine and the water is cloudy & out of balance. The gym has 2 Treadmills, only one is working and 1 elliptical. If you have any home gym equipment, at all, you have far superior setup to this hotel, owned by a corporation worth $11.75 Billion dollars and they cannot drop $300 on a treadmill or any money on maintaining this building? The mattresses are like many hotels, they seem soft, but once you lay down it is like laying on a piece of plywood sitting on a pile of uneven cotton. Yeah, I think that is about it. Avoid this hotel. I am serious, Hyatt simply does not care about their customers and it is clear this has been their business model all along, when they eventually fail and have to be bailed out for the Nth time, do not be surprised. I was wrong, I need to add one more problem... This hotel is infested with Drain Flies, especially in the basement where you can smell raw sewage. If you need to, Google Drain Flies, you will find they spawn where raw sewage is allowed to stagnate. So, please consider this when booking. Enjoy! read more

I always love to stay with Hyatt. The staff is always amazing, friendly and helpful. The rooms appear newly renovated and were very clean. The location is right near the Convention Center, so we stayed before a concert. The hotel turned out to be connected via skywalk, which was great! The bed was very comfortable and I really enjoyed having all the space, the fridge, coffee maker etc. The breakfast was nice if you want to carb load. No gluten free options other than eggs really. Pretty disappointing. They have a no frills workout room with bike, treadmill, elliptical and dumbbell set. It was a tiny room but better than nothing. I normally wouldn't bother writing a review for a big national chain hotel location, but this one was truly great. Very friendly, personable service - over our three night visit, the front desk staff even greeted some of us by name! I wish more of America were like Des Moines. Our room included an excellent free breakfast buffet (that did go all the way to 10am) but if that's too early a deadline for you, they offer up lots of light fare at the bar by the check in desk. Checked in on Tuesday and stayed until Sunday in that time we NEVER had our room cleaned. They said they only do it every 3 days, but NO not even then. Everyday we had to ask for clean towels, have our trash removed etc. and most times it took asking 3-4 times and doing it ourselves. The front desk was always on a "smoke break" and the staff was not overly friendly or helpful. Overall would not recommend staying here. The "grab and go" breakfast was also not anything great. Think twice before booking a room at this location. Although I stayed during the peek of the COVID-19 crisis, there are no excuses for what I experienced. They would not make up my room on any of the 5 days I stayed. Even when I needed more towels, I had to ask more than once in order to finally get some. The worst part is the incompetence of the staff. This location requires you to use their valet parking. If you don't want to be going out every two hours to feed the parking meters, you have to use their parking. They charge $22 a day for this "service." On one morning, I was trying to find someone to get my car for me. There was nobody anywhere in the lobby area. I searched for over 15 minutes before I found the hotel employee asleep on a couch in the corner of the lobby! By the time woke up enough to go get my car, I was late for work! He offered no apologies for his incompetence and lack of concern. Although my company had paid the hotel bill in advance, I was charged an additional $94 for parking fees. I asked them to charge my business card, which I gave the desk clerk, instead of my personal card which they had taken as security for "incidentals". When I returned home, I found that charges went on my personal debit card anyway! This is the hotel I stay in when I'm in Des Moines. It's clean, the staff is very friendly and it's convenient as it's a quarter mile away from my client's office. The rooms are nice and the rates are quite affordable: much cheaper than the Marriott a couple of blocks down the street. It's not the most luxurious Hyatt line of hotels I've stayed at, but it is perfectly adequate and I've really got no complaints. They offer complimentary breakfast in the morning. I'll be honest I've only tried their spread once and it was nice, though nothing to write home about. I typically skip it though as I'm a morning person and would much rather hit the ground running at work at 7:30 AM when I can. That said, if you aren't in a particular hurry in the morning, the breakfast is well worth it. You can grab a drink in the evening, which is nice since there really isn't much around in case you're flying in later in the evening. All in all, kudos to Hyatt Place! read more

There's check-in and unload area right in the front of the hotel. -As you guessed, the hotel is located in downtown. Literally minute's walk from most places in the area. Less than 10 minutes' walk to the capitol. -Free shuttle available within 2 miles assuming the shuttle is free. Pros: -Very large hotel room. Includes an entire sectional, a bed, a flat-screen TV, a very spacious bathroom, a desk and chair, and more. Very large room compared to most hotel rooms. -Front desk staff was extremely friendly. Like, overly so, and not in a bad way. I asked to borrow a marker for a project, and they were happy to let me have it through breakfast and didn't seem even slightly put-out by the request. -Free breakfast was decent. They had skim milk! (And 2%) Decent cereal choices, bagels, bread, PB&J, cottage cheese, waffles, donuts, fruits, orange juice, coffee, oatmeal, etc. Nothing extravegant, but it was a good selection for a free breakfast. They don't have any "make your own warm waffles" option, though, which I've come to regard as a standard for most breakfasts. -Good location to take part in pretty much anything downtown. In warmer weather, I'd say this is easily walkable anywhere downtown. Cons: -Breakfast area only has a few tables. No tables were available when we came down. -Breakfast, on the weekend, was only available until 9:30 AM. Seems a bit early for weekend breakfasts. -View kinda sucks. Half of the hotel faces in towards a four-high-rise-building square. So you just get to look at other high-rise buildings with very little natural sunlight. 09/16 we worked with sales manager Holly to sign an agreement securing a block of rooms for our daughter's wedding the end of Sept 2017. Rooms were spacious, staff were friendly and helpful, there were services provided (breakfast, shuttle, valet) that were a benefit, and location was convenient to the reception. The first block rooms were booked in March/April then in late July we began receiving calls saying a no availability message came up for the block. We emailed Holly with no response then called a few days later to hear she was no longer there, were told to contact Cheryl and were connected. With no answer we left a message, two days later with no response called again and were forwarded to Ross who worked with Cheryl and told to email Cheryl. We did this and received a response the next day from Ross (Cheryl had forwarded it to him). He gave us a list in the block and assured us he would check and add rooms. A week later we were still receiving calls from family unable to book in the block. Some called and booked rooms at cheaper rates, others booked with AAA discounts and got higher rates. We were getting negative feedback from family. What is the advantage of booking in the block (a benefit to us with complimentary room for the couple after 20 nights paid in the block) if rates are cheaper outside the block? At the same time Ross was telling us rooms were limited and some were no longer available (queens). As people scrambled to book, they still got no availability messages in the block. We had phone conversations with Ross to resolve the issue and in Mid Aug asked for a list to check names. We found discrepancies in the block list and family booked for the wedding. We again contacted Ross via phone message and email with no response. After two weeks (one month from wedding), we called and asked to speak with someone who could help. We were connected to Cheryl (she had turned us over to Ross earlier). We expressed our concerns with the lack of responses and further lack of getting reservations into the block at the rate offered. We were told if we knew people not listed they were making reservations outside the block and they could not control this. With no availability messages showing in the block, there was an obvious disconnect in the reservation/block system as they assured us of block room availability and people were forced to book outside the block. She said if we sent confirmation numbers, names and rates for those booked outside the block, they would make a note (for guest bags) but if their rate was different they could not put them with our block (to count to our minimum requirements) or would have to up their rate. We asked why our block rate was higher when we were bringing in customers for the wedding, and why some rates were lower when we were told availability was limited and some rooms were not available at all. We had to resend requests through email or calls to get any response and concerns were not addressed. We surpassed our room requirement booked for the event, but were not happy at the work we were expected to do tracking down family and friends booked at the hotel, getting confirmation numbers and rates in or out of the block. This took more time and effort than should have been expected after booking a block and signing an agreement expecting it to be in the hands of the hotel to track and that the guests would easily be able to acquire rooms with the wedding. The rooms were all very nice, the hotel staff was friendly and helpful during our stay, the breakfast was better than most hotel breakfasts, the bar and food available were convenient, and the valet and shuttle were helpful. If only the same customer service and satisfaction would have been displayed and experienced throughout the block agreement and booking process. We appreciated the kind gesture to alleviate the problems, but felt after we signed the agreement we were no longer a priority for the hotel. With management changes not relayed to us, there was a communication disconnect and afterwards we were moved back and forth among contacts. It took more effort to maintain contact and receive answers and explanations than we should have had to put forth. We would stay at a Hyatt again but would not book a block for another group event there and could not recommend that others do so! read more

Service was awful. The valet didn't help us at all -- he went inside while we unloaded our car. We had tons of bags ... and they all just sat and watched us trying to get them all to our room. We asked for a bell cart but they were "on the floors". It was 10:30pm so it wasn't a giant rush of people checking in. After finally getting to the room the card didn't work so my husband had to go back downstairs and the lady behind the counter didn't even acknowledge him. He had to ask for help and then when she finally reset key she just handed it to him and then went about her business. He stood there for a few minutes not sure if she was done or not. I almost don't want to review this place because my husband and I feel like it's a great kept secret of downtown Des Moines. It's perfectly located for the downtown outings. You are within walking distance to events and dining. It's also connected to the skywalks which is handy during cold, hot or any miserable weather days. We always stay here when we have an evening of gallivanting downtown and shouldn't be driving. We have even stayed here when our air conditioning was out and getting it repaired. I stayed here for an interview at a nearby school. This hotel was very convenient for me because I did not have to rent a car. They provided a courtesy shuttle service to and from airport, around the downtown area, as well as to and from my interview even though I had already checked out at that point! Additionally, the hotel is fairly close to the capitol and sculpture park. Many things are within walking distance! That said, I probably would not recommend staying here to someone who is bringing a car because they have limited parking (valet) spots available here. Apparently the cars parked by valet sometimes results in guests getting tickets which they are expected to pay... Additionally this hotel is a bit pricey for a Hyatt place; it might just be the week I stayed, but they were selling rooms for more than $200! read more

In all, we were pretty pleased with our stay at the Hyatt Place. The front desk staff was friendly and efficient. The room was clean and well-appointed. I really liked the shower, which had warm stone tile and the exact right amount of water pressure. The minifridge is the first one we have had at a hotel in the past few years that actually got COLD. Like, turned our Powerade into a slushie kind of cold. Awesome. Price was reasonable. The hotel is apparently very proud of its free breakfast offering in the morning, and I have to say it is better than most. There's your normal cereal, toasted items, juices, yogurts and fruits. But there are also these really tasty little breakfast sandwiches -- bacon egg and cheese on an english muffin or sausage egg and cheese on an actually really decent biscuit. And decent coffee. We were pretty satisfied, I have to say. And free breakfast is FREE breakfast, so that helps you feel like you got a better deal anyway. My only complaint about the room is that the curtains are a sheer kind of translucent fabric. I don't feel like people could see in, but I wished for thicker curtains so that I could choose to block out the sun in the morning. As it was, there was no helping it... the light of the morning woke me up. One more additional thing we encountered during our stay regarding valet parking... first of all, when you pull up in front of the hotel, you're basically parking on the street. Watch your driver's side door. I whacked mine on the curb, which is really high (and my car is really low). But beyond that, when we arrived, we told the valet attendant that we'd be leaving in 20-30 minutes again and to keep our car handy. He said that he'd probably just leave it down front and we said fine. When we returned, we were somewhat aghast to find that he had left our car in front of the hotel, completely unlocked and with the keys still in the ignition. Anyone could have walked up and stolen our car or gone into it. And, since the area for valet parking is in the parking ramp across the street, there were periods, when he was parking or retrieving someone else's car, when he did not have eyes on our car. We were really horrified. I brought this up when we checked out, and manager Tim was both sincerely apologetic and equally horrified. I really appreciated his response and taking my complaint seriously. He waived the $15 valet parking fee and also gave us a discount on our room, which I obviously appreciated as well. He asked me what time this had all happened and promised to address it with the employee. It was a classic example of how to handle customer complaints, and I really appreciated his effort to apologize and make things right with us. We went there during the Memorial Day long weekend. Excellent Location, right in the heart of Des Moines. Walk able distance to all the attractions of the city.Spacious rooms, high ceilings and very helpful front desk staff and prompt service. Due to Holidays probably they were short handed on House keeping. They skipped our room for some reason, but the Night time manager was generous enough to offer us a clean new room for the night stay. Mr Patel the manager was also very kind and regretful about the incident. Overall we have very good memories from our stay with them. read more

I got a double queen for one night and it was a nice clean spacious room. The sectional in the room was a plus but it seemed very used but I get it it's a hotel. They offer only valet parking which is okay but I'd rather park my own vehicle and have access to it when I want not having to wait on the 1 guy who is doing it all. Just my opinion. Breakfast was good but we couldn't find butter and no kitchen help to ask. Their coffee was just okay. Great walking distance from the downtown bars. I did however get a 50 dollar charge plus the room for incidentals and parking so I won't be staying there again. read more

The short version of this is.... I AM STUCK WITH $2,900 IN VEHICLE DAMAGE DUE TO A NEGLIGENT VALET DRIVER/SERVICE, AND A COMPANY WHO REFUSES TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY THAT IS CLEARLY THEIRS. The experience I had at this hotel has completely turned me off to staying at any Hyatt hotel anywhere again. I want to start off with saying that when we pulled up to check in, we went inside to get our room key and asked about parking. They said they offer valet, and only valet, and otherwise we will need to find public parking somewhere a few blocks away if we can find it. They charge $19 per day for valet parking with unlimited access. I really don't let anyone besides me touch anywhere near the drivers seat of my car because it's more important to me than cars are to the typical driver, but given that public parking was a max of $16 per day (and it starts over if you leave the parking garage and return), I decided to just give it a shot. We were visiting for the Iowa State Fair. Day 1: the valet driver calls me about 1 hour after we've been hanging out in the hotel room to tell me that he's been trying to drive the car several times, and can't figure it out. So he asked me to park the car myself. Fine. I was a little annoyed, but thankful he just asked me to do it instead of doing something damaging to the vehicle. I wish I could say the same for day 2. So on day 2, there's a different valet driver at the front desk. I get the key to go get my car myself, but then changes his mind and insists that I let him go retrieve it for me because he claimed to know how to drive a stick shift. (Yes, my car is a manual transmission). As this valet driver pulls up in my car to the top of the garage, coming from downhill, I can see my car sitting there at the exit gate with clouds of smoke literally continuing to roll out the bottom of my car. I am not joking; smoke ACTUALLY rolling out the bottom of the car. So he comes back inside and tells me that he couldn't figure out how to take off up the hill in first gear, so he just slipped into another gear to drive up the hill. His exact words are "I think I was in second gear, but it could've been fifth." I was fuming. I got out to my car and could smell a horrendous burning smell, and as soon as I tried to drive away I knew the clutch was burnt. I immediately stopped and went back inside before driving away to bring attention to this. The hotel manager of this location was actually extremely unhelpful and rude. Another hotel employee noticed it too, as we had a conversation about it before the driver came back in, but suddenly did not have much to say when his manager came out to talk to me. I was shocked at the lack of responsibility that was being taken here. I can't even say that there was previous clutch damage as a way of trying to forgive it in my mind, because either way it was SMOKING, which absolutely does NOT happen unless the clutch is being fried. To confirm this, I immediately drove about 8 minutes to the local dealership service department of my car's brand and had it looked it. They did confirm while it was there that the clutch would need to be replaced. When I contacted the hotel manager about the damage he quickly told me he could not help me with paying for any damage. I did not settle for this, so I escalated the situation within the company. I did get someone to hear me out and sent me to their insurance company, who also decided (even though the valet driver admitted to the smoke, and driving it in the wrong gear, and even though I had proof from my local service department that there was nothing wrong with my clutch prior to this, and even though I just drove it there three hours away without an issue less than 24 hours before) that they weren't going to pay either. Currently, I have been stuck with a $2,900 repair bill that I had to pay myself, because this hotel and this company does not take responsibility when they do something wrong. I will NOT be staying at a Hyatt hotel ever again, anywhere in the world. Customer service keeps me coming back to a business, and this business needs serious improvement in this area with the way this situation was handled to me. I have shared this story with lots of people, and I will share this story with the world so that everyone can make decisions with this in mind. read more

My boyfriend and I stayed here while we were in town for a wedding. The room was very comfortable. We had a little couch to sit on, two big windows, with lovely, simple, white curtains, and a wonderfully soft bed. The staff were incredibly helpful whenever we needed anything. A note to the manager: I agree with the other reviewers before me, you really should have room service!! read more

We stayed here while in town for a wedding. The convenient downtown location was really nice. Complimentary Wi-Fi is always a plus, though to be fair I generally expect it at most hotels now. They have a coffee to cocktails bar that offer a number of drinks, if you want that. Also, the complimentary breakfast in the morning is one of the better ones I have had. During our stay it was frequently re-stocked and had a nice variety of items presented in skillets. The fridge in the room was also convenient. The room was well appointed, and the bathroom was nice. Front desk service was pleasant and prompt. We didn't eat here for any meal other than breakfast, but it looked like they had food available at a variety of times. We would definitely stay here again if we are in Des Moines! read more

I chose this downtown hotel in part because it offered a free shuttle to the airport. After a night out on the town, my friend and I reutned to the hotel and asked to have a shuttle for 6 a.m. I think it was the manager, and he said since he is the only one there at 6 a.m., we could not get a shuttle. I was livid! To make it worse, we were very thirsty and the only thing they had was room temperature Coke in a bottle. No cold water, no diet Coke, nothing. You'd think a hotel as big as that would at least have a vending machine!! After using the dirty elevator (literally fingerprints on the doors) and going back to our less than clean room, we were bacj down in the lobby at 5:45 a.m. The same guy was there. He offered no smile, no goodmorning, nothing. I had to ask him to recommend a cab. Well, the wait time was 45 minutes which would not get me to the airport on time, so I called another company. No answer. My friend decided she would just take me, even though it completely conflicted with her plans. When we walked across the street to the parking garage, the door to the elevator entrance was locked. The hotel guy looked at us and did not offer to open it which he had access to. So....we had to lug our big, heavy suitcases up 5 flights of stairs to retrieve our vehicle and be on our way. What a shit show!!!! This place sucks. Don't waste your time or money. MIght as well stay at a budget hotel. read more

We stayed 4 nights this past August, and couldn't have been more pleased. The property was comfortable, clean, and our room (double queen) very spacious, I believe, because they were converted condominiums. The beds were very comfortable, and the free wi-fi worked perfectly. The hotel is conveniently located downtown within walking distance to the famous farmer's market, several excellent restaurants, and just 3 blocks from the bus stop to the Iowa State Fair. In addition the hotel has a very convenient shuttle that will take you anywhere within a mile radius. A couple of times we reserved a specific time, but for the most part were able to request a ride on the spot. We were happy to leave our car in the valet parking garage, as it was so easy to get around either by foot or shuttle. The included breakfast was surprisingly good. In addition to the skillet breakfast (waffles, eggs, sausage, scrambles, etc.), there was an excellent assortment of cold and hot cereals, muffins, bagels, English muffins, toast, and a nice variety of fresh fruit, yogurt, and cottage cheese. There were several types of chilled fruit juices served alongside coffee and tea. The lobby was small, but inviting with a fireplace and two desk top computers and a printer - very handy for printing our boarding passes. In addition to their morning breakfasts, they have a 24-hr food service menu (pick-up down in the lobby) as well as a small bar area near the desk. The best part, by far, however, were the staff. Everyone we met was so hospitable and friendly, and they seemed to genuinely care about their guests. For example, when I asked one of the young women if they sold sparkling water for my queasy stomach, she apologized for not carrying any, but instead prepared me a (complimentary) to-go cup of ginger ale poured over ice and a small package of Pepto Bismo! Every time we came back from an outing, the desk staff would ask how our day was, and they seemed genuinely happy at hearing what a wonderful time we were having. I wished I could remember the names of the many kind individuals we met on the staff so I could list them here. We had such a great time in Des Moines that we would love to return.
