This review is for Tru Medical Management billing and not for the physician who saw me Dr. Angelique Saavedra, who was very kind and caring with a lovely bedside manner.
Last spring 2024, I started a birth control that made my mental health rapidly deteriorate over the course of a month. As it was an implant in my arm, it needed to be removed by a physician. Once I decided it needed to get gone, I made an appointment for the same week at Tru Medical on Dekalb. When I got there, I paid my $60 copay and waited to be seen. Unfortunately, they had not ordered the right tools to remove the implant, and I was informed that I would have to come back at a different time. The staff assured me I would not have to pay a second copay at the next visit, and that it would be considered a continuation of the first visit. I was really upset because I was so excited to feel the relief of not having the birth control from hell pumping hormones into my body that made me feel like sh*t, and I was disappointed it couldn't happen that day. But hey that's life.
So, I go back the next day for my appointment. The front desk tried to get me to pay another $60 copay, and I explained the situation to them. After waiting, they let me see Dr. Angelique without paying another copay. She removed the implant and I immediately felt so much relief. She also checked in with me to see if I had a hard time at the front desk regarding the copay, which I did, and I appreciated that she followed up in that way.
Several months later, I received a statement from Tru Medical that I owed a copay that was "not remitted at time of service." I spoke with the billing department, I explained the entire situation again, and they told me to ignore the bill and that it would be taken care of. Fast forward months later, boom another statement appears in my email for the same reason.
By this time in Jan 2025, I am unemployed after being laid off from my serving job. I cannot afford to pay a bill I shouldn't have had in the first place. I called Tru Medical, first time I get hung up on before being spoken with after being first in line to speak to a representative. Second time, I am transferred to billing and they don't answer, and there's no voicemail box to leave a message, and no machine greeting with a return number. On my third try, I get the direct number for billing, I explain the whole situation again, and once again I'm being told to ignore the bill while they contact Dr. Angelique, and I should have a response by Monday. I asked if I could have a direct way to contact Dr. Angelique, and I'm told no because she is too busy and has too many patients. I understand why they are not giving her contact info out, but honestly I am so frustrated about the run around I have been given by Tru Medical Management, and I feel like Dr. Angelique wouldn't be happy about this either.
This has been an ongoing situation for almost a year since going to Tru Medical that I've had this bill hanging over my head. Seriously, it feels like they're running a scam and taking advantage of desperate New Yorkers. I'll update my review and bump up a couple stars once my issue is resolved, but I cannot recommend Tru Medical Management to anyone. Frankly, this has been such a distressing experience and in hindsight, I wish I could have been more patient and waited to see my PCP or another provider to remove my birth control implant, but I was miserable and I thought Tru Medical could help me. This experience has caused me ongoing stress and I wish to caution all who wish to patronize Tru Medical that this has been a terrible experience for me. read more
