This is an annual event at Jens Jensen Park in the Ravinia district which takes place between June…read moreand September. The food trucks are rotated and bands are scheduled for live music each week. (On Thursdays) The vendors all take cash or card so there are no tickets to buy and potentially get stuck with or having to stand in long lines for more, like at Taste of Chicago. Super convenient. This year we went in opening night and due to Covid there were less trucks, on only one side of the street, and while it got more crowded later in the evening, having more space was nice.,

It was literally overrun with children. The music was ok but couldn't really enjoy it with so many kids running over your blanket etc. They had about 12 food trucks but many of them were somewhat repetitive Mexican and they didn't offered much in the way of food for vegetarians. One place I waited in line for about 10-15 minutes for them to tell me they were out of grilled vegetables for the veggie options. So I got a veggie burrito at another truck which turned out to just be a burrito filled with rice and cheese. And the food and drinks were expensive. A glass of wine was $12 for a 5oz poor in a little plastic glass (the entire bottle of what they were pouring was likely $12). Beer was by Ravinia brewery which was fine. So while the concept itself is great it's not what I had hoped for. I've been to other things like this that were much better executed and not a playground for unmonitored children.

The owner who did the set up was on time and super friendly. He sanitized the bounce house which I have never seen before, 5 star service. He brought everything that was needed even his own extension cord, which in the past from renting from other places, they never did nor do other places actually sanitize there equipment. I was so impressed, will only rent from here!!! Highly recommend. The ice cream truck was exactly on time and a huge success. The kids loved all the fun choices and each kid got the pick they wanted! The truck was fully stocked. The young man driving it, was very friendly and kind to all the kids and children. Super nice, what a hit!! I would highly highly recommend this for any event or party big or small. Thank you to Depidy Dawg for making this party so memorable and special! Also prices can't be beat! For such tip quality service, they are the best for the Chicagoland area.

Lemme say the lemonade is great…read more My complaint is that the guy I presume is the owner was kinda a jerk. First - his lemon squeezing machine blasted lemon juice straight into my 4 year old daughter's eyes. I had purchase a lemonade + 2 $1 cups to split it with my kids (it's huge). After helping my daughter rinse her eyes out, I went up and grabbed my lemonade and the 2 cups I paid for weren't there. I said "I'm supposed to have 2 cups too, can I have them?" There was a new guy who started handing me the cups. The owner - who knew he just blasted lemon juice into my kid's eyes - immediately stepped in and stopped the new guy with "no they have to pay $1 each for those cups. they can have the small ones." I said "I did. I did pay $1 apiece for 2 cups. I paid extra for 2 cups." He then brought over the cups I paid for and said "sorry, this guy just started he doesn't know". That is, he blamed the new guy even though he was the one who made the mistake - the new guy was doing the right thing. I didn't like that he was blaming some innocent underling for his mistake so I said "why are you blaming this guy? you're the one who made the mistake." He said "he was about to give you two free cups!" Which of course he wasn't about to do because I'd in fact paid for him. Even if they were about to give me 2 free cups that would have been appropriate given the fact that he just blasted lemon juice in my pre-schooler's eyes. Anyway, the dude kinda sucked.

Honestly, I thought that was just the standard for suburban grocery stores around here. I hadn't even heard of Sunset Foods until a TV commercial popped up the other night. Back in NY, I practically lived at Uncle Giuseppe's, and I've been majorly missing that high-end, Italian-market vibe. The commercial looked legit, so this past Saturday, I figured why not make the drive up to Highland Park and check it out. The second I pulled up, it just felt different. I got a super warm greeting walking in, but what really sold me was this guy outside grilling hot dogs right by the entrance. Honestly, just catching that smell in the weekend air instantly took me back to summers on Long Island. The store itself has a great vibe, really clean and upscale. I hit the cheese section first because the gourmet selection is massive. A really nice staff member saw me looking a bit overwhelmed and helped me pick out a few incredible cheeses. Then I hit the bakery and deli, totally overloading my basket with random finds, including a massive brownie that looked insane, and some awesome cured meats. But the real test was the meat and seafood counter. At Jewel, half the time the meat looks like it's turning brown under the plastic wrap. Sunset is the exact opposite. Everything looked fresh and bright. They were running a sale on salmon, and I picked up a filet that was delicious. Yeah, the register total was definitely higher than what I'd pay at Jewel, but the quality difference is night and day. You get what you pay for. So glad I found this place, it's the closest thing to home I've found yet.

Yes, it's generally more expensive than Target or Jewel, but we reluctantly paying $$$, for what should be $$ pricing. This really bothered me though. My wife stopped at Sunset's "Beri Good" drnk counter and brought me a Pomegranate Yogurt drink. It isn't inexpensive, and the last one was so packed with ice that perhaps half the cup was actually yogurt drink. The rest was ice. (See my photo of drink as received.) If I'm paying a premium price for a drink, I expect to get a reasonably full serving of the drink, not half a cup of ice. I'd much rather pay the price Sunset charges and feel I received what I paid for. A premium price should come with a premium product, not less of it.
