We rented the ice cream truck for an hour and he stayed in our driveway and handed out ice cream to our guests.

Even if we don't consider its rarity, Da Local Boy is a winner in every category. The prices are very fair for the enormous portion sizes, the decor is fun and appropriate, the service is friendly, and food is phenomenal both in flavors and textures. The only possible criticisms are that the space is a bit small for how popular this spot gets, and the parking in the area can be a bit limited around popular meal times. The food here shines, making it worth a special trip -- both again for the rarity but also the quality. For me, the poke nachos are a must order item, just the perfect mix of large chunks of tuna with super crispy wontons, fresh avocado, and a good helping of sauce. Amongst friends, we've agreed that this is a must order item. The huli huli chicken is also unreal in flavor and texture. Besides being marinated and sauced well, the chicken is melt in your mouth tender while simultaneously having a delicious crisp skin. Think brick chicken, but with more flavor and a much better price. The rice and macaroni salad that accompany this are also well done -- and feel more like a core part of the meal rather than an afterthought. The grilled pork is pretty good as well, though I kind of wish it wasn't sliced as thin, as certain pieces felt a bit dry. The spam musubi with a light touch of furikake also provided a flavorful, fun dish to accompany the other delicious items I tried. Overall, delicious and consistently surprises me with the quality of the execution and bold flavor combinations. This is on my top places to visit in the area and has never disappointed.

The vibe is also awesome with a great reggae playlist and welcoming staff. Literally every single bite was so good but my favorites had to be the short ribs, chicken katsu, and poke. These mac salad was a little sweet but it definitely worked well especially with the heavier mains of the plate. Poke was really fresh btw and def had my eye on the poke nachos so gotta go back! Def a must try for anyone craving real Hawaiian food in Chicago!

First - his lemon squeezing machine blasted lemon juice straight into my 4 year old daughter's eyes. I had purchase a lemonade + 2 $1 cups to split it with my kids (it's huge). After helping my daughter rinse her eyes out, I went up and grabbed my lemonade and the 2 cups I paid for weren't there. I said "I'm supposed to have 2 cups too, can I have them?" There was a new guy who started handing me the cups. The owner - who knew he just blasted lemon juice into my kid's eyes - immediately stepped in and stopped the new guy with "no they have to pay $1 each for those cups. they can have the small ones." I said "I did. I did pay $1 apiece for 2 cups. I paid extra for 2 cups." He then brought over the cups I paid for and said "sorry, this guy just started he doesn't know". That is, he blamed the new guy even though he was the one who made the mistake - the new guy was doing the right thing. I didn't like that he was blaming some innocent underling for his mistake so I said "why are you blaming this guy? you're the one who made the mistake." He said "he was about to give you two free cups!" Which of course he wasn't about to do because I'd in fact paid for him. Even if they were about to give me 2 free cups that would have been appropriate given the fact that he just blasted lemon juice in my pre-schooler's eyes. Anyway, the dude kinda sucked.

Fun atmosphere, good music, excellent customer service and very clean indoor & outdoor dining area (limited seating but it's better than nothing). I have the Francheesie Hot Dog & it was great. Also, love the bread they use here for their buns. Soft, and not cheap. Fries are on point as well. Better than some of the usual cheap crinkle cut or shoe string fries. I'd put their fries on the same level as Five Guys. For the vets & active military in the area, take note they do offer a military discount and your fountain drink is on the house. Loved the experience and food Mean Weiner. Stay Mean!

The food trucks are rotated and bands are scheduled for live music each week. (On Thursdays) The vendors all take cash or card so there are no tickets to buy and potentially get stuck with or having to stand in long lines for more, like at Taste of Chicago. Super convenient. This year we went in opening night and due to Covid there were less trucks, on only one side of the street, and while it got more crowded later in the evening, having more space was nice.,

It was literally overrun with children. The music was ok but couldn't really enjoy it with so many kids running over your blanket etc. They had about 12 food trucks but many of them were somewhat repetitive Mexican and they didn't offered much in the way of food for vegetarians. One place I waited in line for about 10-15 minutes for them to tell me they were out of grilled vegetables for the veggie options. So I got a veggie burrito at another truck which turned out to just be a burrito filled with rice and cheese. And the food and drinks were expensive. A glass of wine was $12 for a 5oz poor in a little plastic glass (the entire bottle of what they were pouring was likely $12). Beer was by Ravinia brewery which was fine. So while the concept itself is great it's not what I had hoped for. I've been to other things like this that were much better executed and not a playground for unmonitored children.

My companion is vegetarian and had a variety of options. We ordered at the counter and picked a table. I ordered the grilled salmon with cornbread and green beans, and my companion had the chili. Green beans still had a bite to them which was exactly what I wanted. Mushy green beans are unappetizing. Corn bread was sweet. With lots of events at HPHS in my future, I will definitely be back.
