Writing this review from a CA visiting ! AMAZING, best bbq I've had in my life, we got the family sampler with Mac & cheese, baked beans & potato salad. OMGGGGG. All for $45! I could'nt believe how good it was. Sides that were actually tasty and full of flavor. Potato salad, EXACTLY how it should taste. Not some unseasoned potato salad. Meat had a nice Smokey flavor. Chicken & ribs were fall off the bone & the first things gone. 4 pieces of bread immediate into sandwiches full of pulled pork with the daddy sauce. Service was A1, and definitely had that southern hospitality flair. Will definitely be back anytime I'm here visiting family. Thank you true BBQ!! We have been searching the area for the best BBQ for quite some time. After our first visit to True BBQ, the search continues. Got the pulled pork sandwiches which were disappointing to say the least. Way too heavy on rub with zero smoke flavor. I question if the meat ever saw the inside of a smoker. Menu says sandwich 'served on a freshly toasted bun'. Nope, not these two. Sandwiches did have a generous portion of meat, but a lot of poor BBQ doesn't make it good BBQ. Did not try the chicken, ribs, brisket or any sides so can't comment on those. Nor do we have no intention of returning to try any these items. read more

WOW!!!!! Amazing Amazing Amazing!!! My buddy and I finally went there while our wives were getting their "hair did". These folks know how to smoke a rib and the brisket will melt in your mouth!! The Collards are the best I've ever had, and I've had them all over! The cole slaw was creamy and crisp. The portions are "Southern Style", which means you will have a full belly. You can sample all the homemade sauces and each one is unique and delicious. You don't even need to use the sauce because the meat needs no help. Juicy any tender. The best part is the service; the very definition of Southern Hospitality!!! It was like visiting family. They have found a life long customer and a new "cousin". The true baby sauce is delicious as well as the true daddy hot sauce however mixing the two together is the real winner. The coleslaw is creamy and perfectly seasoned the potato salad is absolutely divine. There's a flavor in the potato salad that I can't put a finger on, but I absolutely love it. OMG this was sooooo good! I had been several years ago, and the service was so bad, and the lady had cut all the fat off the brisket and gave it to me, that I haven't been back since. I am very glad that I decided to give them another try. I ordered the smoked chicken, sans barbecue sauce, with macaroni and cheese and coleslaw. The coleslaw was nothing special, but still very good, but the macaroni and cheese was amazing as was the chicken. It didn't need barbecue sauce on it. Even with lots of BBQ sauce, they tasted terrible. The only thing edible was the Macaroni Salad. I threw 90% of the food away. The person seemed nice enough but the ribs were awful. Recently visited True BBQ and Tamika's hash literally brought tears to my eyes! Love'd every bite of my pulled pork and couldn't get enough of her tangy House Vinegar Sauce. Was visiting from Maryland, looking for a small local bbq spot. We found True BBQ 15 minutes outside of Myrtle Beach's tourist area. It reminded me of the small pit beef stands back in Baltimore. The food was amazing! If you can't decide, try the four meat sampler with 2 sides; it will not disappoint.The cole slaw and potato salad were fresh and tasty. All four meats were seasoned so well we didn't need BBQ sauce but if I had to choose, the True BBQ sauce and the True vinegar based sauce were my favorite. The owners were friendly and the service was excellent. This is now my stop for BBQ when I am in Myrtle Beach. read more

While driving down Socastee Boulevard, it is hard to notice this gem along the west side of the road, despite their bright yellow and red signs and flags. Once you see it, you've passed it. This teeny tiny hut is worth turning around and stopping in. Several red and white picnic tables are provided outdoors, as well as a small counter with stools on the side of the building. On the menu you will find beef brisket, pulled pork, pulled chicken and rib sandwiches for $5.75. Combos, sampler, and family special meals go from $7.50 to 26.99. One half rack of ribs goes for $11.72 and a full rack is $23.45. There about six different barbecue sauces available at the counter. Sides are potato salad, macaroni salad, hash and rice, baked beans and cole slaw. We stopped by for the full rack of ribs, and due to the windy weather, we took them home. My husband and I gorged on these moist and well seasoned with dry rub, ribs. I can taste a bit of cinnamon and some type of hot pepper in the rub, but it was not too spicy to disturb our delicate stomachs. Barbecue sauce was also provided, which was tasty with the right amount of seasonings to make you want to eat these ribs, like they were going out of style. We were well satisfied, but still had several ribs to wrap in the refrigerator for later. True BBQ is open Thursday, Friday, Saturday and I can't recall what the sign said for Sunday. The hours as well as the days are limited, and I'm not sure if that is because it is early in the season or if this is permanent. If you pass by and it is open, do yourself a big favor and give this place a try. The staff is polite and helpful and I'll be coming back again, real soon! read more

I went to the new restaurant near Coastal Grande Mall today. Very good! We've been talking about it all day. The Peach Cobbler was the best. Love their True Daddy sauce. I was really looking forward to some killer BBQ in Myrtle beach and I saw several reviews for this place that were positive. True BBQ is a mom and pop shop that is a bit off the beaten path, but not too far from the beach...about 10 min from the south end. It was very clear to me that these people know how to do BBQ. However, the food was not fresh, which was very sad. Due to the size of the place, they probably smoke meat 1 or two days and then reheat to serve patrons through the remainder of the week. It was quite clear that the meat had not been recently smoked. The ribs were most notably not fresh....no bark. The people were super nice, the food was still decent, and the sauces were very good. Decent prices, but maybe call ahead and see when they are cooking. read more

Had been coming here for years. USED to be good before the opened up a full service site on Pine Hollow Rd. The food sucked. We locals were so disappointed it lost most of it's business within 3 months. The building mysteriously burned to the ground due to a "stove left on overnight". Really? Even the MBFD firefighters called it arson under their breaths. Anyway, the food at their little shack on Socastee Blvd. has sucked now for 3 years. Guess they bit off more than they could chew. This place is the bomb, they also have a stand a few miles away from here, and it is very good as well. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich and the brunswick stew, both were perfect. Its served naked so you can put your own sauce on. Also, they have Carolina peppered vinegar in a couple flavors. I can't wait to come back to MB to eat here again. read more

Tried a brisket sandwich for the first time and have to say that it is it's about as good as it gets. Most of all the beef was moist and tasty. I am so tired of dry brisket drowning in sauce. One word WOW!! My wife and I decided to get some authentic southern bbq before our trip back to Colorado. What a great decision. I had the sampler platter which was a little of everything. Probably some of the best BBQ I've had! The brisket was AMAZING! The dry rub was great and the True Daddy sauce went with it perfectly. Also had the pulled chicken and the ribs which were both great too. My mom said that the ribs were the best she's ever had (and she's had her fair share). The baked beans were sweet and delicious, mac n cheese was good, and the slaw was nice and light. We got takeout, but while we were waiting at the bar the staff was warm and very nice. They really made an effort to talk to us and were really sweet. Overall we will definitely be back next time we are here on vacation! Stopped by the lunch stand on Socastee yesterday. Got my usual bbq rib sandwich. This is what True BBQ calls a sandwich: one thick slice of bread wrapped around 4 huge succulent ribs. I mean HUGE meaty with of course a little fat because that's the nature of a rub. But not a lot of fat. I appreciate the sauce cones on the side, you put it on yourself. This is important to me because I like to see what I'm getting. When your meat comes to you slathered I sauce you don't know whether it's quality or a bunch of fat, not until you bite into it. True BBQ grills on site, it's not cooked elsewhere frozen microwaved it's the real McCoy. We have never been disappointed. I don't normally buy sides when eating out, because I cook at home. I go out for meat. And their bbq is juicy generously cut, that sandwich alone is a hearty meal! I've never seen such long meaty ribs in a sandwich. read more

Little did I know that there is a fabulous place right down the street from me. I love the fat that was in my brisket sandwich and the Bun was so fresh.
