WHY WAS THIS FOOD SO GOOD??! The prices were so reasonable. Kids under 5 eat free. This was home cooking! There was nothing that was anything but delightful. Found this just by looking for restaurants near me - what a gem! All you can eat buffet. We had any veggie you wanted, sweet potato soufflé ( like casserole) that was amazing! The meats: fried chicken, pulled pork, chic-n-dumplings, bbq chicken. A catfish stew that I didn't try but was told was great! Desserts, bread, fries corn bread like hush puppies. I drove 12 miles to get there solely because of the 4.6 rating. when places like this get 4.6 ratings,.. its one of 2 things. either all their friends and family put up a fake rating,..or,...(more likely) these reviews are genuine,...but from ppl who don't get out much,..and are accustomed to BAD fast food,..or dollar general microwave cuisine. 1. sweet tea that tasted gross. worse than Walmart powdered tea. how do you screw up the TEA?? 2. no bbq sauce. at least I coundnt find any. weird. they even call themselves "bbq". wow. mega fail. 3. the mac and cheese was the driest,..and most tasteless ive ever had. borderline inedible. another item that can be prepared by a 7 year old,...yet these guys cant manage it. 4. the catfish was horrific. ive had CARP that tasted better. utterly atrocious. I had to spit it out it was so bad!!! (very rare for me) looked awesome,..tasted terrible. 5. the cole slaw was simply a pile of shredded cabbage in about 3 inches of watered-down, unseasoned, flavorless milk-like fluid. worst ive ever had. that's ANOTHER item a 7 year old can make!!!! these guys? nope. 6. the ribs. I just cant believe the lack of skill or effort or care, or whatever,.. I don't know,.. but, literally,... just bland baked pork ribs with zero seasoning, and ZERO SAUCE???? whHHaaAAaatttTT?????? -ultra, mega failure. 7. got a cracklin',...bit into it,... and almost lost a tooth. oak tree bark is easier to chew. the thing was burnt, almost black, and rock-hard. --im sorry,... but,...that's also a fail. if youre planning on going because you saw a 4.6 rating? you are about to get a harsh lesson in why you just DON'T go by what "the internet" says about a place. but,...you can take your chances its a free world. needless to say this place is now just a bad memory. never again. read more

Good stuff! The food is served cafeteria style - all you can eat. We only stopped here once so I am not sure if the menu rotates or if it is pretty set. First - the fried chicken is very good, tasty, well cooked and seasoned. The sides are solid with the sweet potato casserole being the bomb! The BBQ was good but to be honest, I am not a fan of Carolina style BBQ - so I wouldn't go off my rating, ha ha. Deserts are good too. Oh and they had a bin of fried pork skins, well that just makes the meal! The staff were super nice and kept our drinks full (even though you could just as easily helped yourself.) Very clean and friendly service, but I wasn't impressed with the food. I had pork BBQ, Mac and cheese and Cole slaw. The pork was ok but mine had a large piece of connected tissue in it that was gross to find. Mac and cheese didn't really have any flavor. Oddly, all of the cheese seemed to be laying in a thick layer on top and the rest just tasted like boiled pasta. Cole slaw wasn't my cup of tea but that was just a matter of taste. I've been a patron of Big D's BBQ since the late 70's. It broke my heart when it was destroyed by fire last year. But, Big D's Trough is owned by the Grandson and has the same menu as the original. Stopped by here leaving Myrtle Beach heading back to NC. The reviews were like 5/5 so figured this place had to be awesome, but it wasn't. My big complaint would be the confusing layout. When you walk in the door, you walk right into anyone standing in line to order at the counter. The buffet line is right next to the cash register. Why not put it on a side wall? Second, no hushpuppies??? Is this a southern BBQ restaurant? Okay, maybe I missed them but I didn't see them anywhere. They ran out of sweet tea too, odd. The quality of the BBQ was not on a par with Eastern NC places. It really was hard to describe, maybe it's a SC thing, but texture and taste-wise, I didn't enjoy it. I give it 3/5 because I heard the fried chicken was good, and the sweet tea I had before it ran out was good, and I thought the chicken bog was very good. read more

Very good pulled pork and greens. Catfish was delicious, I didn't try the ribs but they looked good as well. You really can't beat the price of under 12 bucks for a buffet style restaurant in the area.
