Rack of some of the most delicious baby back ribs I've ever eaten

We needed to get our BBQ fix while visiting my son and girlfriend and Old South came recommended. A small, family owned business that does BBQ right! We all loved our meals and were treated great! James even came out to check on us. What an amazing fella! We talked smoking foods and shared a bit about our families. Thanks for sharing your book also!

I was really excited to try Old South Bar-B-Q-Co, but unfortunately, it ended up being a huge letdown. As an avid smoker with two large smokers and a portable one for tailgating, I had high expectations for the barbecue here. Sadly, the food didn't come close to delivering. We ordered the large pork platter and ribs, and they were some of the driest meats I've ever had. There was hardly any smoke flavor on the ribs, and the pulled pork had zero smoke flavor--almost like it was boiled in a bag and tossed into a container. Neither the ribs nor the pork had any seasoning or flavor to speak of, which was really disappointing. The portion size of the pulled pork was also pretty small for a large platter. When I smoke pork butts, I typically go for 12-16 hours, depending on the size, to ensure a deep smoke penetration, but there was zero colorization of smoke on either the ribs or the pork here. It was clear the meats hadn't been properly smoked, which was a huge letdown for me as someone who takes pride in smoking. The only saving grace were the onion rings and hushpuppies--they were good, but unfortunately, that's not enough to bring me back. I wouldn't recommend this location at all.

Ok. If you are looking for gourmet or nouvelle cuisine, this is not your place. But if you want great barbecue, THIS is your place! My husband and I just came into town and were looking for a local place with great food. Found it. We both had the barbecue pork plates which came with a mound of shredded barbecued pork (you add one of their sauces). Yum - tasty not greasy. My two sides were onion rings (very good) and coleslaw (pretty standard but good). My husband's sides were the potato salad (very good) and corn - which he didn't try. Servers were very pleasant and the food came out quickly. It looked like they do a robust take-out business. Inside is neat with checkered covered tables and there were a couple of picnic tables outside. If I had to guess, the building may at one time have been a gas station as the restrooms were accessed from the outside. Quirky, but a very good local find.

My family and I stopped in this evening for dinner. The service was super friendly. We're on vacation and I had been looking to try some really good traditional South Carolina BBQ as a fellow enthusiast. The food was outstanding and every bit as good as I was hoping. Very clearly made with love. My wife and I split the bbq pork plate and the 1/2 rack ribs plate. Both the pork and ribs were super tender and flavorful. The sauces just add a chefs kiss. All of them are good... I was initially thinking the spicy mustard was going to be my go to but I think I fell for the vinegar sauce... so good! My hats off to the chef and the staff. Next time we're out this way we'll definitely be back. Highly recommend!

Food was very mid. I expected so much more from this place with all good reviews. Ordered smoked wings. You'd think the meat would be falling off bone and full of flavor but nope. The fries were warped n soft. The bbq quesadilla was good n hush puppies were ok. They definitely were not the traditional hush puppy at all. The staff that answered the phone and checked you out at the counter acted like I was a bother. Next time we visit North Myrtle we won't be coming back to this place.

Went here when they first opened and already had customers. I had to get the ribs and lucky for me they had some left from the day before. I was a bit disappointed they were not hot off the grill like the first. They did not disappoint at all!! They were just as delicious, tender and flavorful. The half slab was cut up this time which was even better for me! The bottle salad was still good, the onion rings hot and fresh. The barbecue was nice and smoke served with some fresh hush puppies. The server was quick and attentive. My serving was very big and well worth the money! It's small and quaint with inside and outside seating. So worth the visit!

About as real as it gets. Best in north beach. Ain't fancy but it is good. Not the best ambience but grab it and go.

A few locals pointed me in its direction, and I'm glad they did. You won't find it anywhere on the menu--this is one of those "if you know, you know" dishes that's worth asking for. The chicken was simply outstanding. The skin was perfectly golden and unbelievably crispy, seasoned just right with a touch of salt, while the meat stayed incredibly juicy and tender. Every bite delivered that satisfying crunch followed by moist, flavorful chicken. It easily ranks among the best fried chicken dinners I've ever had. The meal comes with two sides, but there's one catch: it takes about 30 minutes to prepare. No problem--I happily passed the time with a corn dog as an appetizer. Was that the healthiest decision I've ever made? Absolutely not. Was I smiling the entire meal? Without question. We visited on a Friday evening and it was completely full, however, we got a table pretty quickly. If you're visiting Bar-B-Que House, do yourself a favor and ask about the off-menu fried chicken. Sometimes the best dishes aren't listed--they're shared by locals, and this one is worth being in the know.

We each got the Mama Todd's dinner plate. Loved everything on it, & I asked for sweet butter to slather on my cornbread + half and half of the Sweet Tea. I also got the Lima beans and mac and cheese for the side. Service was pretty quick for a party of five, and we were seated within 20-30 min at most. Grabbed a Pinot Grigio and a beer at the side bar while we waited. They brought out hush puppies when we sat down, & those lasted about 30 seconds at our table :) The staff was simply wonderful; We also asked the hostess to help us take a family pic outside before we left. They have a cute shop where you can pick up a t-shirt as a souvenir- which I had to do because I LOVE THIS PLACE. If this was close to me, I would eat here every weekend. The prices are reasonable, the food is wonderful, and the staff was kind and hospitable. There are many places to eat in Myrtle Beach, but we love supporting local businesses that are family owned. If you're craving fried chicken or country fried steak with all the fixin' on the side, look no further. Fantastic place for locals and tourists. Cheers

The employees were nice and I heard the cashier telling someone it was her family's business. It's not decorated fancy , but the dining room is clean and has honest bbq. I got the Pulled Pork Plate with 2 Sides and a Sweet Tea. I also ordered an extra side. If you're a Veteran like me , your drink is free. The Pulled Pork was tasty and a good portion and they give you a bun even though you didn't order a sandwich you have bread to go with it. I ordered Hush Puppies as my bread , but still ate the top bun with my meal. Hush Puppies were pretty good when warm , my last one when it cooled down then tasted a little oily so eat them while they're hot. Usually I get a Pulled Pork Sandwich instead of a platter and have Slaw on it. Well I got a side of Slaw and it was Mayo style , not Vinegar style and I didn't like it. The young lady let me replace them with the Beans and they were very good. Potato Salad was average , I like a little more mustard in mine. Now for the BBQ Sauces. They have 5 BBQ Sauces which is a good variety to have. I liked the Hot , Vinegar , and Rob Sauce the most. For Pulled Pork I found if you mix the Hot and Vinegar Sauces it worked the best. If I would've had Brisket then the Rob Sauce would be my pick for it. The Mild was okay , but I prefer more of a kick. The Mustard Sauce was weak and not tangy enough and I usually like a good mustard sauce sometimes on pulled pork , but prefer the vinegar. Sweet tea ok , not too sweet like some places. Overall it's a well rounded bbq place. My total with tax was $19.70 with my free Veteran's drink , pulled pork platter and 3 sides. I would like to come back and try the Brisket next time. I would recommend you giving it a try and support a local family business.
