Looking for the best sake selection in SF? In the Bay Area? In CA? Look no farther! (I'd add US, but I haven't been to enough to prove that claim). Extremely knowledgable staff. My only regret is that I didn't come on a Saturday when they also offer tastings. Next time!

Excellent selection of premiums and affordable canned sakes. A bit pricey but also offers some membership, community, lessons, magazines even travels in the past. It's a true sake affectionado. Located at the heart of Hayes valley. It's quite a special shop to be. It's cool to be able to buy Nabu Biji beauty of the south here after watching it in a documentary.

Really cool sake gem in Hayes Valley! At first I thought it was a sake tasting spot but it was actually a small store that had a huge variety of sake. I only recognized a few and wanted to know so much about the rest. May was super helpful and gave some recommendations, from the light every day sake, Kikusui, to a bold one with shiitake mushrooms and umami essences (has a bull on the front). I asked if she knew any restaurants that did sake food pairings and she recommended a place called "Avery" in SF. I so want to go there now! I left with a large bottle of the shiitake mushrooms and umami - I may just have to throw a sake dinner party soon!

Best sake store outside of Japan. Owner Tim really knows everything about sale and the store has one of the most widest selections of sake.

I had an absolutely magnificent time visiting True Sake! The location is perfect for serendipitous exploration, the staff are incredibly kind and inviting, eager to share their deep knowledge of all things sake, and their product offering is second to none! I highly recommend you check out this shop, chat with the friendly staff and enjoy some amazing sake, you won't regret it!

True Sake rocks! I was buying sake for a work event and simply had a list of recommendations, without understanding what it meant. The staff explained the different types of sake with me and helped me fit my purchase within my budget. Super informative and helpful! Their storefront is well decorated and sake bottles can be so much fun to look at the packaging. Check it out next time you're in Hayes Valley! My star rating: 5 - I would be a regular customer 4 - would go back again 3 - probably try a different place 2 - not very satisfied 1 - turnaround and run

I used to like this shop. Yesterday the sales guy with silver long hair was rude. I would never shop there again.

The selection is great and the little descriptions that Beau writes up for each bottle - it's invaluable.

They are a great retailer, very knowledgeable of wines old world and new. They have a fantastic selection. My issue is with their auction business, which I think they have very little they can do about it as they are taking the word of the sellers that the bottles have been properly cellared. Multiple Aubert Chardonnays (2014-2017) bottlings, top end, have been clearly past their prime despite being in the start of the prime drinking window, and one bottle that was very tired. So it seems to be less of the "rare bad bottle" problem and more of a systemic issue with some of their sellers. I'll change this review if other such start-of-the-prime-drinking-window bottles through K&L prove to show they are drinking well and increase the ratio of good to bad items. I have a lot more of these bottles to test. Edit: may 2026 - a few more Aubert Chardonnay's going back to a 2018 Eastside were opened and we're all spectacular, crisp and peaked. Our stats are much better now on the aging of chards through the auction. Changing to 5 stars.

In my case, KLWines stated that the order had been transferred to RareStorage and that they had no further responsibility. RareStorage, on the other hand, ignored my emails and support requests. As a result, I was left without the product I purchased and without the money I paid for shipping. From a customer's perspective, this is an unacceptable experience, as neither company accepted responsibility or provided a satisfactory resolution.

He purchased a tiny bottle of Jim Beam for $8.99 while although pricey was the only thing een close to reasonably priced. He also got a 2 liter of Diet Pepsi that cost $6.99 and a 12 pack of white claw which they charged him $34.99 for. So $55 for those three items and then afterwards he said he was told his total was seventy something dollars and he had paid in cash. I would definitely not come here or recommend it and if you do, please check the prices, check your receipt and check the total amount you are told very carefully.

The management seemed to have a grasp on who they let in the store, and it seemed to be running a good business, providing food and such in the neighborhood which they have business. I've been in many combat zones in my life but never expected to see one on the streets of San Francisco. Next time visiting in San Francisco in the evening, I won't return to that area as it's an island of lost souls.
