If you're in dogpatch, this is probably the only liquor store game in town. I would be much more upset about this if it wasn't a solid liquor store. They put more effort into groceries than most - there's a variety of brands and quality for the products they do stock(sauces, snacks, bread, kitchen staples) - and often the prices are better than the grocery across 3rd street. There's even a little bit of basic produce (onions, lemons). Household products (otc medication, toilet paper and the like) can be a little pricey. The booze is priced fairly. There's an impressive variety of liquor, wine, sake, beer (loads of IPAs), and even a few sour beers. The staff is always friendly, very chipper and energetic. The location is clean, and not dank and depressing like a lot of the corner stores out there. read more

After running an errand around the corner, I was thirsty and snack-y... you know, craving something to munch on. As I walked to my car, my mouth became parched so I walked in and saw a great number of refrigerator cases. After you pass the cashier area, you'll see a substantial freezer unit with a variety of ice cream bars and pints. Besides what I mentioned, I noticed that there was a variety of tobacco products behind the counter. The store is sandwiched between a breakfast place and a corner bar so their variety of products make sense. There are a number of businesses across the street (framing and furniture, I believe) as well as restaurants scattered around the area. Normally, this store type would rate a four for me but I was happily surprised with my interaction with the cashier who was very laid back and cordial. After wishing him a nice weekend, he surprisingly replied with enthusiasm, "You too!". When I'm able to leave a business with a smile and a warm heart, the fifth star is earned in my book. read more

Reno's has many types of beers. (almanac, 8.5/belgians, imports) seem pricey until i payed. wasn't asked for more than the posted price, meaning tax, crv, etc. is included. thus 4 stars for value, Reno is more than a liquor, it's a mini gourmet convenience store.....(i just care about the beers.....) brew: "liberty ale" 5. take outs: -almost all beers are priced..... -store is lengthy and narrow. sudden moves not advisable, might bump into someone or something. -quick checkout. no drama. read more

The placement of this liquor store is genius. It's next to a popular brunch place so when you have time to kill since you're waiting for your seat, what better to do than buy lottery tickets. Love these guys. I discovered them shortly after I moved into the neighborhood and I can't resist going back (not that I want to resist!). Reno's is a reliable market/liquor store that also has a great selection of local beer. In addition to the booze, this place has all of the items you would expect at a corner store: candy, chips, soda, and a few small grocery items. The grocery items are actually of decent quality, and while there is no fresh produce here, there are definitely enough things to put together a quick meal. They also have an amazing selection of Haribo gummy candy. The guys that run this place are hilarious and usually friendly. read more

On the ever important liquor-store/convenience-store spectrum, Reno's falls more on the liquor-store side, but you won't find any expired snacks here. In fact, you'll be impressed like I was by how much of everything they carry. They have cheese! They usually have Wavy Lays, and that's impressive because you can usually only find those in supermarkets. They also carry Nantucket Nectars, and who doesn't like reading random New England trivia while they're waiting for appointments in windowed waiting rooms (really vestibules) with variegated views of inbound platforms? The people who work here are nice. They chat it up with regulars, but they don't make you wait for their conversations to finish before they start to ring up your order. We are all hurting during Covid. I've been going here since 2004. In the height of the pandemic, you've raised your prices on nearly everything 30 to 40 percent. Not cool. Price gouging does not say you are part of the community and looking out for your neighbors. We are all in this together. But you are taking advantage of us. Three stars for how nice you've been in the many years I've been going here. You've lost me as a customer though. Sometimes when you need them most, places just appear out of the ether. And since laura b is the goddamn Dog Whisperer Express (bless her), my face was leaking like a red, itchy faucet and I needed a drugstore. Let me tell you, there is not a one within half a mile of Dogpatch, okay? You think prissy-ass Potrero Hill has a Walgreens? Please. This is a historic district. And if you think I'm heading back to the WG on outer outer Third you've obviously never been to that Walgreens (OKAY?) So this is when I call upon the trusty neighborhood corner store. In Reno's case it's not really on the corner, but that turned out to be fine, because it was the most full-service corner store I have ever had the pleasure of stopping into in a time of need. I'm serious. They have everything. When the big one hits, I'm heading over there because we could survive for weeks, easy. Needless to say, they had Visine A.C. They stopped short of Claritin, but did I say this was a pharmacy? No. They made up for it with a selection of Dieor shades (yes, "Dieor"), snack foods, prepared foods, even some produce. Plus a respectable selection of liquors, which it appears the locals prefer to enjoy outdoors, kind of like New Orleans' to-go cups, without the cups. Anyway, Reno's. Definitely a dont judge a book by its cover kinda place. We were pretty impressed with the beer selection. With my friend being from San Diego it was crazy to see how much inventory they had from Stone Brewing Company. The dudes who work at Reno's are among my favorite fixtures in the Dogpatch. They are always really nice to me and sometimes they've given me a free lemon or two when I've run out of lemons in the middle of cooking dinner. With Reno's around, I know I'll never get scurvy. Also, I can pick up an odd box of kleenex, twizzlers, what have you at almost any time. In addition to meeting my needs in the middle of citrus and other emergencies, Reno's has a swell new magazine rack, tons of junk food and candy, and lots of beer. As neighborhood markets in Dogpatch go, well, your options pretty much begin and end with Reno's. It's a good thing this store is pretty awesome. They've definitely made the transition to cater to the changing demographics in the neighborhood with a good selection of quality adult beverages, organic foods and household supplies. They recently expanded their hours to be open to midnight most nights and installed a fancy new flat screen tv which is usually streaming either sports or news. You definitely pay the premium for small scale convenience, but if you live here you'll find yourself becoming a regular. Ok, so they get a bonus star for always stocking my coconut water brand. Oasis. That one word describes Reno's. When you're stuck in this rather business-less few blocks of the Potrero Area (or just getting off the train), Reno's is a welcome sight for dry throats and empty stomachs. If you want to pick up that PBR tallboy, snack or 6-pack of Kronenburg before trudging up the hill or jumping on the T, come here. Granted the snack selection is that of normal liquor store, the beer selection is quite good and extensive, not to mention they've got a ton of non-alcoholic beverages as well. With Mr. & Mrs. Closing at 6pm and closed Monday and Tuesday and no real dessert options in the neighborhood, I rely on Reno to satisfy my sweet tooth. They have a great selection of individual size ice cream (it's it with lots of flavors to choose from like pumpkin, strawberry, mint, cappuccino and original, three twins, Ben and jerrys, fruit Popsicles...) and packaged cookies and candy. Another reason for stopping by is their alcohol selection ranging from beer to wine to hard liquor. What a selection! They've really classed this joint up in the last few years. I"m usually able to adhere to my Monday through Friday 4-pm appointment with beer here. Walking through the door of Reno's you're sure to be treated to the greetings of Chai or Benny who will gladly either give you a hard time or tell you a story about one of the oddballs who has been through the door before you. (they'll tell the next customer about you later hahaha!) The sundry selection is a godsend in the Dogpatch and when you realize you've only brought a credit card to the next door Just For You cafe, you can run in and use the ATM at Reno's to replenish your cash. There was also Father, but he has passed, rest his soul. I've given these guys more of my money than any one establishment in the entire US of MFA other than the IRS, so they get 5 stars.
