Walking distance from our hotel made this an easy choice. It is a bonus when in a new city that you find a nice liquor shop to go to that doesn't make you feel uneasy about taking your wife along. Friendly and helpful staff guided us to a selection of wines that we thought we would enjoy. In and out and back to the room to see if we chose wisely! Thank you

Unbelievably prejudiced, bigoted, and full of insecurity at least the way they treated me. Simply because of my somewhat disheveled hair/beard look or something despite showering and having pretty clean clothes it seems like they assume i am some thieving bum trying to steal from them or something. First of all they requested in a pretty judgmental tone i did not have a problem with initially simply requesting that i leave my bags by the door, which is fine as is pretty standard for many businesses, and i did not hesitate to leave my bags by the door or complain as they requested even with the dismissiveness i sensed in their tone. i was truly interested in purchasing some heirloom whiskey or craft beer too, and was talking to them like a normal person and a friendly genuinely interested customer. then when i was simply grabbing my wallet from my bag by the door they told me to leave that they did not need my business. I tried to reassure them calmly that i was simply obtaining my wallet It but they wouldnt listen at all! It seemed pretty clear to me in their subtly judgmental and close-minded/dismissive tone that they were just dead set on viewing people that looked at all like they might be impoverished as pieces of sh*t who deserved to be hated on and treated like they were worthless. this is what really bugged me and i hope they lose a fair number of business because it until they make up for disrespecting people so unfairly! especially since that i know of i have not stolen anything knowingly in my life! Get checked small minded fools! but ultimately godbless

Seems to be a pretty new place. Very clean, standard prices on liquor. Run by a friendly old man. They were playing classical music in the store, which is unusual but it's a plus in my book, contributes to the generally classy atmosphere of this store compared to the other grimey liquor stores in the area.

They are a great retailer, very knowledgeable of wines old world and new. They have a fantastic selection. My issue is with their auction business, which I think they have very little they can do about it as they are taking the word of the sellers that the bottles have been properly cellared. Multiple Aubert Chardonnays (2014-2017) bottlings, top end, have been clearly past their prime despite being in the start of the prime drinking window, and one bottle that was very tired. So it seems to be less of the "rare bad bottle" problem and more of a systemic issue with some of their sellers. I'll change this review if other such start-of-the-prime-drinking-window bottles through K&L prove to show they are drinking well and increase the ratio of good to bad items. I have a lot more of these bottles to test. Edit: may 2026 - a few more Aubert Chardonnay's going back to a 2018 Eastside were opened and we're all spectacular, crisp and peaked. Our stats are much better now on the aging of chards through the auction. Changing to 5 stars.

In my case, KLWines stated that the order had been transferred to RareStorage and that they had no further responsibility. RareStorage, on the other hand, ignored my emails and support requests. As a result, I was left without the product I purchased and without the money I paid for shipping. From a customer's perspective, this is an unacceptable experience, as neither company accepted responsibility or provided a satisfactory resolution.

I've been here a few times and each visit spot new bottles, drinks that I want to try. I'm a beer drinker by default and HS's cooler on the left does not disappoint! It is full of choice craft selections, with favorites like Alvarado Street and Faction prominently featured. You can also mix and match your cans so you can try a few at once. But they've also got floor to ceiling selections of spirits wrapping the rest of the store, with dozens (if not more) varieties of each type. My partner and I usually find that rum is not represented well in most places (whiskey and tequila seem to be the SF winners), but at HS we were able to find everything we were looking for. They've got all the choice brands: el dorado, hamilton, clement, plantation, etc. And, they've got plenty of bitters, liquers, and what not to compliment. I also really appreciated that they had several options for non-dairy ice cream in the ice cream cooler. Definitely want to try one of those cookie sandwiches next time. All in all, a great purveyor and appreciated assortment of libations. Cheers!
