I also have a shea butter allergy, and the staff were very responsive and attentive when I mentioned it before my appointment. They helped identify which keratin smoothing treatment would be safe for me, which I really appreciated. My hair turned out beautifully, and I would definitely go back to see Monique or another student again.

Ultimately, I have stopped getting services here because over the last 5 years the cost of their services keep rising while the quality of services have drastically declined. Especially when it pertains to a haircut. They have very limited stylist that can give you a haircut for under $100. Even then, their techniques are very outdated and all of the stylists cut the same way because they have the same training. I have gotten my haircut a few times now from a new provider- not only was she reasonably priced but I absolutely loved the way she cut my hair. It has made me realize how much money I have wasted at Mario over the years getting services I did not like. With all of that being said, The colorist at this location are amazing. I do not color my hair anymore but I would 1000% go back to Mario to see Lena for color. I will never get a haircut at a Mario franchise again.

I travel to have J do my hair because, it's the quality you would expect from a city salon without city prices. Yes, he works out of his basement and that element passes the savings on to you, i.e., not overpaying on overhead. I know there's another review that claims that the salon is closed, that is not true. I just got my hair done yesterday, March 7, 2015. J has always worked with both my budget and my time. He's not afraid to give a discount and I appreciate that and him. Lastly, the proof is in the pudding. If I can, I will post a picture of my hair. He works magic with hair color that suits your coloring and a cut that suits your face shape and features. Otherwise, I would not continue to travel to his salon. Furthermore, I'm not a frequent yelp reviewer, if that detail is worth noting. And while I have been going to J's for over 20 years, I had no problem writing this review because it's true. One last sidebar, if you are ever getting your color done, never wear a shirt that you are afraid to get ruined. Accidents happen, water and dye may trickle down your back. If you have to run off somewhere right after your hair appointment, pack your better outfit in your bag to change into afterwards. I do that and it saves my clothes.

Most of the streaks were placed in my bangs, and he charged me the price for "long hair". Also when he rinsed out the dye it trickled down my back and only when I got home I realized that my shirt had been dyed as well and ruined. This is due to negligence of properly placing enough towels around my neck during the rinse. If he ever re-opens I would strongly not recommend him.
