Date of Visit: whenever John has something good for me :) Reason for Visit: because John is a handsome buggah SNEAKER HEAVEN...just hearing those two words will likely cause every sneakerhead to drool all over themselves. I've been fortunate enough during my lifetime to have visited some of the famous and well known sneaker consignment shops around the world i.e. FlightClub, Rif LA, Skit Tokyo and Osaka...and I'll have to put Truest as part of that elite list of consignment shops. Why???...because of several reasons: 1. The Owner: John Om is a true ambassador to the sneaker community especially in Hawaii. To many he is considered a shoe god, but personally I think he is mortal ;) John definitely takes care of his customers and provides the best service once you step foot into the door. In short, customer service is on point...numba one! 2. The Products: the selection of sneakers he has in his shop is like I said...HEAVENLY. If you're ever on a lookout for some 'grails' it is likely John will have it in stock at his shop. Some of the sneaker brands that are sold at his shop are Jordans, NIke SB Dunks, Lebrons, Kobes, all types of Runners, and the list goes on. He not only sells sneakers, but also sells clothing and headwear apparel (i.e. Supreme, BAPE, super limited Truest shirts/hoodies/beanies/no show socks)...not to also mention the cute Kaws figurines...yessss Kaws :) 3. Networking: you will never know who you will bump into when you swing by the shop. This place never falls short of customers and is constantly filled with loyal sneakerheads at any time of of the day which gives you a great chance to small talk and chit chat about your favorite sneakers and upcoming releases. You may even get lucky and bump into some well known Hawaii sneakerheads like Joel aka Dukininam or Yujin aka DunksnJordans...my personal Hawaii sneaker idols aside from the great John himself. 4. Boozer: cutest dog on the face of the Earth...and the ladies won't disagree with me. The most humbling owners/couple I know. I remember coming here for the first time a year ago and even then I thought they had pretty good selection. Here I am back a year later and I swear their selection has more than doubled and still growing. I was especially happy I was able to score a pair this time around because their GS sizes are known to sell out quick. Aside from their selection they have the best prices I've seen and I can vouch for that. Comparing to what I've seen in the mainland they don't over price their kicks. Although Hawaii has been on the sneaker scene for a while now, Truest has definitely reinforced this. Sold a few pair of shoes through Truest and have to say that I appreciate doing business with John. He is professional, courteous, and down to earth. He keeps good contact with me and has promptly notified me whenever pairs have sold. Payouts are issued on said dates and are always ready and waiting to be picked up. Walked in with my boy and he wanted to try on a shoe, he asked my tween son "are u sure your moms can afford that price tag? " before he even tried it on. REALLY!!! A good example of judging a book by its cover. Drove right over to Original Grail and spent our money there. From what I can see, you should have stayed in LA. Owner was super rude treating me like I was trying to steal or didnt have money i Don't know what I did to have the dude being a condescending prick when I attempted to check out...I've even tho there's literally a buzzer on the door, and then after I picked out what I wanted he was literally choosing to declining my Apple Pay and said his POS wasn't allowing him to accept my payment from myphone without an ID even tho Apple Pay requires u to scan an ID when you sign up for it....and gave me some bullshit about my bank declining it i Tried paying with my apple pay like 5 times and it just declined over and over he then wouldnt even let me purchase part of what I was trying to buy with the cash I had on me....it's funny cause I went to original grail and had zero issues with my Apple Pay working and they didn't role their eyes when I said I didn't want my photo taken for instagram apparently that isn't optional at truest. the store itself is sick but I personally won't ever go back to have my money be treated like it's not real, like bro I know 1000% bearbricks are expensive i own several of them and plan on buying more? Went to truest on a Friday late afternoon to see if I could consign my boyfriends Nike Dunks (purple lobsters) and to be honest, I wasn't expecting much but to my (pleasant) surprise, Owner John O. was very hospitable despite being very busy and not knowing what I brought with me. He explained that in order to consign I would need to create an account with the business and that unfortunately the next time I could do that would be Monday but he took a look at the shoes and let me know that they are very popular and expensive shoes right now and to come back to make sure I get the best prices for them. I did as he instructed and I am pleased to say that I have complete confidence that he knows what he's talking about and is 100% professional despite what I was told. He also discussed the price of the consignment and I appreciate the fact that he knows I don't know anything about kicks and didn't attempt to low ball/rip me off and we were able to come to a number we were both comfortable with. I recommend anyone who's looking to consign kicks or supreme gear or even looking to purchase items (I watched how meticulously he looked over the shoes) to check out truest!!! read more

One major complaint I have about this place is that sometimes the store will NOT contact you if your shoes were sold. If you have shoes here that you're currently selling or are going to sell, I HIGHLY ADVISE THAT YOU CALL AND CHECK WITH THEM MONTHLY OR EVEN WEEKLY TO SEE IF THEY WERE SOLD. If you notice that your shoes haven't been sold in months, I suggest you PHYSICALLY go in the store and check for yourself if the shoes were sold. Also remember to keep track of every shoe! Just a tip for you future and current shoe sellers coming from my experience with this place. Another annoyance about this place is that occassionally they'll close at random times temporarily for sometimes up to an hour or more, so you'll either have to wait or come back later. Lastly, the customer service here is just okay for the most part. The owner can come off as brash/snobby, so if you don't like that kind of service then I would suggest going elsewhere. read more

I'll start off by saying this place is unique and has a good variety of sneakers that are hard to find. Thats just about the only positive thing about this place. I mainly go on YELP to read how customer service and prices are. This place lacks both!! Visited that place to sell a pair of unused shoes. I walk in. Theres two guys at the register. One turns to look at me and turns back to the other guy. The guy (i believe Jon is his name) whos at the reg never looks up and continues doing basically nothing. No greeting, no Hi,...no Aloha. I walk up to the counter and present the shoes i want to sell with the box and everything. He examines the shoes thoroughly. Obviously there are no scuff marks or dirt as i never used them and stayed in the box. He sees that the price is still on the box ($70). He then proceeds to tell me he can offer me a pity $30 for 'em. Im thinking in my head, "What a prick! Am i really gonna let him rip me off like this?" But i know that i will never be able to use the shoes. I tell him how about $35 (50% of the cost). He then proceeds to "do some research" on his desktop and ipad, not saying a word, he opens his reg and hands me $35. At this point i am appalled with this "businessman". I take the money and look around his shop. I glance at the two guys and Jon is smiling at his friend holding the shoes that i just sold to him. I could tell he was thinking, "Look at what we just scored for half the price". I found the same model shoe on the shelf and he was selling it for $100. Truest is another consignment shop located in town so parking is limited. Luckily, my wife and I found parking just down the road in a small parking lot with some Japanese restos. Again, the place is small (btw i understand cuz Hawaii rent is expensive!). I thought Truest had more Bape and Supreme apparel than the Bvnk as well as an extensive collection of Nike SBs. The owner, John, greeted us when we entered and asked us if we had any questions. I didn't see any Truest merch when we went but if they did I would've bought. The only reasons why I don't give this place 5 out of 5 stars is because they don't have a Heat Locker and prices are up there. So, expect to pay a pretty penny for your grails! read more

Not that good I'd suggest BVNK due to truest having a huge markup on shoes they sell for 100-200 more than resell. BVNK sells it for what you would find off of sites like urban necessities, StockX which don't rip you off and they have a great atmosphere and know about all things designer and hype. Truest employees tend to not acknowledge you when you go in and will just stare at you when you take a shoe off the wall and look at it like your gonna run off with it. I remember going in to look at a pair of Sean Wotherspoon air maxes and they sold it for I believe 700 at the time I went and BVNK sells them for 550. read more

Amazing stock and collection of brand new and pre-owned- my wannabe hype beast of a boyfriend went crazy when he saw some of the shoes and the great supreme collection they have! We ended up picking up a Supreme bogo black hoodie! I think the best thing about this store for me was the amazing customer service- we had our car towed after we left the store and the store owners were so helpful, calling the police and also the towing company and writing down addresses for us! My husband came across this store while browsing a hotel shopping catalogue. Since the drive was over an hour away I called to confirm the store hours. The rep advised the store would be closed from 5pm till 7pm due to a special engagement. So we decided to make a special trip given that we would arrive a few hours prior to 5pm. I accompanied my boyfriend to Truest a couple of times. The last time I visited in July of 2015. I was surprised by the amount of shoes they have out on display. They also changed their interior look from a year before that, which makes the store more attractive. I'm not knowledgable about sneakers but I see what happens in the sneaker world from my boyfriend. It's distressing to see how there are untrustworthy people out there (like in any industry) trying to profit solely from exclusive sneakers when they don't care a bit about it. But Truest is the mere opposite of this. I read some previous reviews and some complain how the prices are high here, but those shoes are exclusive and rare, especially in Hawai'i. The prices are not surprising at all- you'll know if you check other legitimate sneaker stores like Flight Club. Plus, you don't have to go through the hassle of waiting for a package to arrive, being concerned if the sneakers are fake, or having to ask PayPal for a refund because you purchased from a scammer. Additionally, if you really want a specific pair from Truest you can always try and ask for a best offer. It's really difficult to buy sneakers in Hawai'i so I'm sure many sneaker heads appreciate this store! Now for what I really wanted to write my review about: My boyfriend visited to see if he could sell his shoes that he owned. He originally wanted to trade for certain shoes he wanted badly, but after several attempts he failed. He really wanted to downsize what he had accumulating at home, but also found it risky to sell or trade online. John created a new system where you can leave/sell your shoes at Truest. When the shoe is sold, you give a percentage of the profit to John. You can set your own prices and it benefits both parties. During our few interactions, it was obvious that John has a strong passion for sneakers. He is very down-to-earth but you could see the glow in his eyes after opening a new box of sneakers. Apparently, sneaker heads love the smell of new sneakers after unboxing! Although my boyfriend initially wanted to trade his shoes with a pair he really wanted, we were really thankful for this opportunity. I know some might ask, "Then why doesn't he give them away?" but the truth is, he has given away exclusive sneakers to people so many times! He deserves something for himself. Plus, the idea of selling them was partially due to my nagging ;) As you can see, Truest offers a great system for both the sneaker head and the girlfriend! Lastly, to clarify, we are not family or friends of John. We got to interact with him at Truest as a customer. I wasn't a fan of sneakers but I am understanding more of what my boyfriend enjoys, thanks to hardworking and passionate people in the industry like John. P.S. Boozer, the dog, is adorable! Truest is the one stop shop for all your shoe needs. If you ever wanted to buy a specific rare Jordan, SB, runner etc. you should come to Truest. Truest is run my John and he is a great guy and knows how to do business. He does a 18% consignment shop and he sells shoes. In all I have sold about 5 shoes here in the past year and a half and have enjoyed doing it through him. He is a very legitimate business man and is really down to earth. As you walk in you are greeted by him unless he is talking numbers with a buyer or a consigner. But still you will get some kind of greeting. Store is filled with shoes from the floor to the ceiling. I was pretty impressed with the selection of Jordan's and the fact that they had a pair of OG Jordan II's with the box. John, the owner was really friendly and based on the inventory you can tell he has a passion for all types of shoes.
