They get regular preventative care including all shots as well as monthly NextGuard and HeartGuard purchased from our vet practice. We had an wonderful vet before our move so when we were given a bunch of recommendations from new neighbors and co-workers, we had a pretty good idea of what we were looking for -- a practice with experienced veterinarians, friendly staff, and not necessarily in a fancy/new facility (past experience was higher cost for care to help pay for the upgrades.) Melbourne Animal Hospital was the second vet we saw. The experience was almost identical to our vet back home and the cost was actually slightly less. We already have somewhere to board our dogs and do drop-off daycare when needed so any expanded services aren't something we needed to take into account. We just need good preventative medical care and someone we trust if an emergency comes up. Melbourne Animal Hospital meets that need for us.

They left us in the room for over 50 mins before anyone came in. Now that is 50 mins for my cat to be more and more anxious. She has an anal gland issue and has to get them expressed every so often. She knows what is about to happen. They know she is very anxious about it. The did nothing and then want to charge me a visit fee. Really? They told me they would have to put her under anesthesia in order to give a rabies shot, exam, and anal gland expressed. This is absurd. Really anesthesia? Never motioned that before, and she has had her anal glands expressed many times there. I am very disappointed. My cat is a very sweet girl. No, she doesn't like going to the vet, but they did NOTHING but leave us in the room and waste over an hour of our time.

BEWARE - Ongoing issues with office management and prescription handling…read more I have been a client at this practice for approximately 14 years, and unfortunately, my experiences with the office manager (female, shoulder-length brown hair, glasses) have consistently been negative. Her attitude and demeanor toward clients have been unprofessional for as long as I have been coming here, and I am confident many long-term clients will recognize exactly who I am referring to. Recently, these issues escalated in a way that directly affected my dog's pain management. I was only given a one-week supply of my dog's pain medication, and it then took an additional three business days just to obtain the printed prescriptions. One of my dog's medications was switched from liquid to pill form due to the office stating they were "out" of the liquid. The pill is extremely small and must now be cut into four pieces, which is impractical and increases the risk of inaccurate dosing. As a result of poor communication and delays, my dog is now without pain medication. The office was unexpectedly closed on a Saturday when they are normally open. I called at 7:00 a.m. the day prior to request a refill of gabapentin. I then received a call after the office had already closed, stating that they "needed more information" to fill the prescription--despite the fact that the same prescription had been filled just one week earlier, with only a one-week supply provided. No explanation was given for what additional information was needed. This pattern feels less like an isolated mistake and more like ongoing control over access to necessary medications, with no regard for the impact on pets or their owners. Additionally, the pricing is excessive. For example, I was charged approximately $40 for 30 gabapentin pills, while the same medication can be obtained through Chewy for about $9.60 for 120 pills. Based on my long history here and these recent events, I strongly caution pet owners. Prescription access is unreliable, communication is poor, medications are delayed or restricted without clear justification, and costs are unreasonably high. When it comes to your pet's comfort and pain management, these issues are unacceptable.

This was the best experience we have ever had at a veterinarian hospital. The staff and level of…read moreservice are superior to any service we have previously received at other animal hospital's. They answered the phone during AM hours and were quick to tell us to come in and they would take care of our pup. They actually came to our car and got our pup in right away. The floor arrangement here is amazing because instead of a classic waiting room that involved the owner being separated from their pet, the entire floor plan is open concept with separate low rise couches everywhere with individual examination tables. This is so nice because the low couches make it easy to sit privately with your pet away from other pets. This made us feel very safe because it's scary to watch them take your pet behind closed doors, not to mention you are decreasing risk of interaction with another animal that may be violent due to pain or carrying a infectious disease. The staff here was not only amazing with our dog but they made me and my kids feel very comfortable and welcome. They even took time to walk my little kids around so I could focus on our dog while he was seizing. The staff all worked together to diagnose Astro and help him. Usually Astro can be frightful of new people or vets but he was very comfortable and calm. I think he could sense that the staff here deeply cares. While at the hospital they were constantly sterilizing and cleaning. The whole place was impeccable. We sincerely appreciate the amazing staff at this ER and will suggest it to anyone and everyone who may ever be in need of emergency pet care. Phenomenal service and care.

1/5 - Very disappointing experience…read more I brought my critically ill emu to this emergency clinic expecting professional help. After I arrived and paid the expensive emergency visit fee, I was told they did not normally treat emus and had little experience with this type of animal. I even watched the doctor searching Google for information about emus and then giving me information I had already found myself online. I was left holding and carrying my heavy, sick emu for much of the visit, which was extremely uncomfortable and caused me neck pain. Instead of getting a clear diagnosis or specialized help, I was presented with an expensive treatment estimate, including over $500 for radiographs. Their own estimate shows a $180 emergency visit and $562.65 for radiographs. DogByte.pdf My biggest issue is simple: if you don't have experience treating emus or exotic animals like this, tell the owner BEFORE having them transport a critically ill animal to your clinic and pay an emergency fee. I left feeling that I paid a lot of money without receiving the specialized help my animal needed. Thankfully, with intensive care at home, syringe feeding and vitamins, my emu has been improving. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this clinic for emus or similar exotic animals.
