Terrible customer service. Receptionists act like you aren't even there and will continue taking phone calls before helping the ones standing right in front of them!! Then other people will come in after you do and get help before you do!! I felt totally invisible. This establishment has lost my business and I hope they don't gain yours. this was the most horrific experience I've ever had. a dog is like a child. my chihuahua was failing from multiple issues. he went from 10lbs to 6lbs. a heart murmur was killing the poor little guy despite medication. Dr Herwood and her tech accused me of wanting to put my dog down for my convenience. I was horrified that they would even think that. after I left there I watched my chihuahua. he wouldn't eat. his breathing was so fast he was almost panting. I've always said Vet's have every right to make a decent living. I just took my 2 dogs today to Melbourne Animal Hospital. They were recommended by my vet for one of my dogs because they did not do teeth extraction surgery. Surgery went well and decided to stay with them moving forward for about a year now. Upon calling last week making an appointment for both of them I asked for a quote and was ok with the total. They called yesterday wanting to reschedule appointment because they overbooked so made an appointment for today instead. No problem and was glad they called me. I go in with my expected quote of $252.60 and go to pay and receptionist says my total is $410.68. WHAT? I declined further unquoted procedures with the exception of a $20 bottle of ointment. Ok, no problem, $20 right? I turned down another option that was $90 and told the cheaper ointment wouldn't work as well. I had to remind them that I'm a senior living on an impossible budget so can only do the absolute necessary. So how did $252.60+ $20 become $410.68? The receptionist who is a very nice lady asked if I wanted to talk with one of the managers. She came out and was polite telling me this was the fault of a new employee who misquoted me on the phone. She explained why the bill was almost double of the quote. I told her firmly but politely I never could of committed to this price. She said three times it should never have been quoted to me by the new employee. I told her several times that is not my fault. Her response was it's your word against the employee's. I said so your calling me a lier? That's when I said I'll take my pets elsewhere and paid the bill. There are many who will say, if you can't afford vet bills, you should not have pets. And I will agree with that to a large extent. When I adopted my dogs, both at 3 months old 10 and 11 years ago, I was doing very well financially with a great job. I became ill and had to go on disability and have never recovered financially since. But I never got rid of my fur kids no matter how much it affected my finances. Very disappointed. Vet did not touch the dog. Just asked me questions. Told him I was doing natural supplements to help his arthritis and he told me to keep doing that AND he would give me 2 weeks worth of meds to try and if no bad side effects, I could come back and request more. When I checked out, the woman told me they were expensive and to contact drug company for discount. Once I got home and put my reading glasses on I saw they charged me $85 for the 2 week supply vet told me he was giving me to try!! Recently relocated to Melbourne from out of state for new job. We have two dogs -- 3 yr old Lab-Boxer mix and a 2 yr old Lab-Golden Retriever mix. They get regular preventative care including all shots as well as monthly NextGuard and HeartGuard purchased from our vet practice. We had an wonderful vet before our move so when we were given a bunch of recommendations from new neighbors and co-workers, we had a pretty good idea of what we were looking for -- a practice with experienced veterinarians, friendly staff, and not necessarily in a fancy/new facility (past experience was higher cost for care to help pay for the upgrades.) Melbourne Animal Hospital was the second vet we saw. The experience was almost identical to our vet back home and the cost was actually slightly less. We already have somewhere to board our dogs and do drop-off daycare when needed so any expanded services aren't something we needed to take into account. Great place that genuinely care for your pet in time of need. I got my boxer Gracie treated there after a car hit her, and no longer after she had surgery. Both times I was extremely satisfied with the professionalism and quality of care Gracie received. Well sadly Gracie passed away two weeks ago on March 17. It was not a surprise to me when I checked my mailbox today to find a condolences card signed by the whole staff. Stay away from this place , if you can. You can find a better place to take care of your pets. Honestly, they don't even deserve 1 star. The doctor who works there has no compassion and does not provide a high quality veterinary care. She gave several vaccination shots on the same visit to my older cat ,who was in a great shape at the time, according to her. Right after that happened, my cat started feeling ill, getting short of breath and was getting worse every day. I took him back and they referred him to an emergency care hospital. We payed $2,000 dollars to save his life since he had to have an emergency procedure and needed oxygen . His lungs were full of fluid and he could not breath. Unfortunately, he suffered too much and we had to put our cat to sleep. Next day I called Melbourne Animal hospital to let them know what happened. I had a conversation with Dr. L and asked her a few questions. She was clearly annoyed by my phone call , although I was being very respectful. I asked her: " Why do you think it happened?". If you care about your dogs, then go to a different vet. I have been a patient for 2 years and have called a couple times when I had a sick dog. Dr. Berger told me personally, if you have any issues, call me and I'll help. I've called each time, the front desk told me I would get a call within 24 hours. Day 2 after the first call, my puppy died and he didn't help. Second time I called, he didn't call me for 4 days. If you care about your dogs, that would upset you. I called and complained and he said he wouldn't see my dogs anymore. The front desk is rude and the doctors aren't much help. You are just a number to them. read more

My dogs were playing and my shepherd's paw hit Grace just right in the eye. The eyeball was actually out of the eye socket! If it wasn't for the quick surgery from Doctor Burger, Gracie would have not only lost her sight but her eyeball too! She has been seeing Dr. Lepore now, Grace and I love her! I am trying to find someone who can quote me a reasonable price for a Rabies Titer Test for my dog and cat.  KSU does the actual testing and their price is $90 for the test and $170 for expedited service.  My vets quote is $900 for expedited service.  All the vet is doing is drawing the serum and sending it to KSU.  I have no problem in paying a vet for their time but I am not sure a 246% price hike is fair. read more

Dr. Paul Berger was able to save my cat Tigger!! He removed a cancerous tumor from his paw. It's been over 2 months and my Tigger is doing great! I know it's something that we will have to deal with possibly returning, but he is in no pain and for now enjoying life!! My experience was COMPLETELY opposite other reviewers. I went to Dr. Burger after having been quoted a ridiculous amount of money to have the surgery done by 2 other Vets, as the regular Vet I used could not perform this type of surgery. Dr. Berger did it for 1/3 the price! He is a kind, compassionate and TRURLY in the business because it is his passion!!! I do agree some of the receptionists can be a bit more hospitable...a simple smile and friendly tone of voice goes a long way especially when you are going in to possible have to deal with bad news, but I can't say the two I dealt with were bad. My pug needed surgery & the vet I started with recommended melbourne animal hospital - although I was confused by some reviews - I am new to the area and relied on the information I was given. Thank goodness I did! I was given a 730 appointment and upon arriving early (nerves) I was let right into a room and saw the DR immediately. In less than 30 minutes I had x-rays / and a clear plan for surgery THAT AFTERNOON. They had made room for her surgery the same day before knowing IF she needed it! The cost of the surgery was thousands of dollars less than other vets in the area & I was able to take my dog home to recover that night. We went to another vet and was quoted a price of 700.00 to do a dental and remove a skin tag. We went to Dr. Burger who did a dental, removed the skin tag, and a melanoma on my dogs side, also did a second dental on another dog of ours at the same time. DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE! I had taken my 7 year old kitty in for a dental cleaning which they had told me that he needs blood work done before hand since anesthesia was involved and because he was almost 8. I take him to get the bloodwork where they weren't able to get a lot because he doesn't like the vet, the vet tech tells me if they need more that they'll get it when he's put under... I tell her nooo because the blood work was for whether or not they can put him under.. well when I go in for his teeth clean, they told me his blood work was fine and that the anesthesia was safe and we were good to go. A few hours later they call me and tell me that my baby boy had woken and everything was fine and I could come pick him up. I get there 5 min later because I live right by the office, only for them to tell me 15 min later that my baby boy had passed away and they couldn't even give me a reason why!!!! I have been so devastated, not only by the fact that my whole family has been affected by this, or that I had lost my first fur baby around Christmas, but I think that someone in there had done something wrong and no one is claiming responsibility for my boys life!!!! Please take your pet elsewhere!! This was the most heartbreaking thing I've had to deal with, seeing my baby laying there and with no answers!! I wish I could give them negative stars!!! read more

Paul Berger is the best vet available. Very explanative on everything that might be wrong with you family member ( if you explain their symptoms) and if you pay attention you might be able to help him with the diagnosis and help your family member. My girl has diabetes's and with Doc Berger's help and she so for with him explaining all the things I need to look for in her needs. I take my girl's blood sugar almost everyday and keep take track of it for Doc Berger. She has crash and down on the floor and I give a doggie cookie with Karo syrup and within a couple of minutes she is fine. My girl was down to 52 lbs. and now she is up to 57 lbs. My girl is a Walker Treeing Hound which 57 lbs. is good. We have had struggles over the past 4 months and it has finally settled down. Thank you Doc Berger!!!!!!!!!!!! We used this facility under the most difficult of situations. We are "snowbirds" and unfortunately were faced with the decision of having to have our dog euthanized due to cancer. I have been using this Office for 7yrs now for my 3cats because I live in the surrounding apartments and can see them from my front door. I have no qualms with the Veterinarians there as I have found them to be more than adequate- my issue with this office is the Customer Service. Or should I say the lack there of. Over the years whether in person or over the phone I have been ignored, treated like I'm bothering the staff and wasting their time. I originally just blew it off, but it's been happening more often and consistently. (I've also noticed there's newer staff.) And literally just now I was placed on hold for 7mins, then after hanging up and calling back and asking if they were going to continue forgetting about me they promised they would only have me holding shortly and they laughed/apologized that it was lunchtime and only two of them were at the desk. I hung up after holding for another 15mins with nobody popping up to say they remembered I was there. Absolutely atrocious and unacceptable- I've worked Customer Service for 20yrs now and I would have been written up if not fired after failing to attend to a customer in such a way as they did. Being conveniently close to me will no longer cut it as a reason to go to this Vet's Office. I have a limited lunch break to call and handle personal business for my pets and when I can't even get a chance to discuss why I'm calling in 22mins then there is a big problem. read more

They came highly recommended to me by a vet tech at FATA. My 12 year old cat had a severe case of Stomatitus (really bad Gingivitis) and had to have his teeth pulled. After a quick exam by Dr Lepore she said that due to his age she didn't want to risk putting him under anesthesia more than once so she was going to pull ALL his teeth EXCEPT his Canines. I was so upset.I didn't understand how he would eat, he had already lost so much weight due to the inflammation of his gums. She assured me he would be fine. I also had concerns about giving him his after care meds. (He's very clever, and hard for me to medicate) in order to assure he'd get his pain meds I ASKED if they could keep him overnight to monitor him and dose him. I picked him up the next morning and Dr. L said everything went well. I got him home and after a few days noticed he wasn't doing so well, I called as soon as they opened and gave my concerns to the receptionist and asked to have the Dr call me, when I didn't hear from her by 3pm I called AGAIN. No response until 630 pm when they were closed. I was so upset by then I decided not to talk to her and NEVER go back there. Fast forward to 3 weeks later. I took him to another vet who showed me he still had MANY teeth left and his gums were inflamed, So he's going in this morning to be put under again and have the procedure preformed by a professional. This review is for Dr. Carrie Sherwood ONLY! The staff and other doctors are wonderful! On June 27, 2019 I took my beloved Golden Retriever in because his breathing was not quite right. Dr. Sherwood was thorough doing the exam and suggested an X-ray. We discovered that my boy had cancer in the lungs. I was totally grief stricken. Dr. Sherwood showed no compassion, offered no advice, and seemed more interested in the fact that he needed his teeth cleaned. She was very cold and uncaring. All I got from her was a referral to another doctor in Rockledge. Benny had a follow up appointment two weeks later. My daughter took him in and we FaceTimed because I couldn't go. Dr. Sherwood was inpatient with us FaceTiming and wouldn't even look at me as I asked her questions. Once again, she was cold and uncaring. Sadly, Benny passed on July 22nd. We received a sympathy card from the hospital. Everyone signed it, including doctors that we didn't even see. Dr. Carrie Sherwood did not sign it! She should not be a veterinarian! I was amazed at how kind and well they treated my cat laser who was having a pretty tough gastrointestinal issues including vomiting. Our regular vet isn't a full-service place so they recommended Melbourne Animal Hospital. I'm very glad they did. I like the way that they listen to us and did a good history and asked a lot of good questions. I also really appreciate it that after they had decided on a treatment they went and they got us an itemized chart of all of the things that they recommend and the prices. They brought that into the room with my husband and me and then left us to discuss it after briefly explaining each thing. When they came back in they weren't pushy, they answered any questions we had with a great deal of knowledge and we decided that everything on the list was not only reasonable but it was reasonably priced. They didn't seem pushy at all as they seem to only be recommending what was best for the animal and I didn't feel like they were trying to take advantage of us even though we were first-time clients there. They took great care of our cat and he seems to be doing better now. It is a situation where we have to wait and see to make sure that this actually does get better. The next day they even called us to make sure that Laser was feeling better and to ask about some symptomology to make sure that he wasn't having any sort of new or continuing episode. I would highly recommend them! I feel they really went out of their way especially considering that they already know we have a regular veterinarian for General care so would only really use them if there's an emergency. They still treated us like valued customers and treated our kitty like he was family and not just some animal. read more

I came to Melbourne Animal Hospital about a month ago when my cat unexpectedly died. The staff was very kind and let me spend as much time with him as I needed. A few weeks later, it was time to put down our 15 year old dog. I scheduled an appointment and from the start the staff was very compassionate and understanding. They handled our dog with such care. Going there for years until I ran out of meds for my epilepsy dachshund...the receptionist said I had to have an appointment to check her liver levels first.her name is Sue, my fault I forgot totally to do that...it was a Friday at 5:30pm , so I asked if they could give me four pills till Tues. , I told her I didn't have the money tongrt in there today,,,she told me to ask a family member..really????...I ask to speak to the Dr and shevsaid they would call me between patients. 6:10pm no call. So I called them and they were closes....no pills and I even explained to her that my dog could die without this pill daily....why is everything about money...could she not go out of protocol to save a dogs life....theybdid end up giving me four pills in the morning....then they had the ballsvto fire me as a patient....like in would ever go back there again...beware of the non compassionate receptionist..!! read more
