He caught my attention by his posts of his clients' transformation in their weight loss pictures. Took a leap of faith and started the program. Fat loss was not apparent as preached by Mr. Trufkin. I tried to follow the program to the letter and even ate appropriately according to the parameters. Five months later and I am fluctuating up and down in weight. The difference was negligible (1-3 lbs). Not the large weight loss as preached. Promotes negative views about others who do no lose weight. Overall I lost no weight and was told it was my fault. I tired even his recommendation to see a gut expert who then charged me for more items to buy, as well as for consults. All were not up front and transparent about their process and actions. I am am out thousands of dollars and no closer to helping myself get to the finish line. I am embarrassed for not being able to lose weight and do not trust anyone now who claims that they can help me out. I do not recommend this program. read more

Weight gain caught up on me slowly, year after year, without me noticing it much. Until the day I tried to select a pair of dress slacks and they were all too tight! Before Eugene I had not had ever had a personal trainer as I thought it was a waste of money, but the services he provides are beyond what you imagine a personal trainer to be. You start out with a workout and diet plan. The workout plan covers your Daily routine. Eugene goes over all of the exercises and records it so you can look back at them if you forget a particular routine. What I liked about this is that at the beginning you may struggle with a particular set but as you progress you can see how much you improved, which continues to motivate you. Nothing but great things to say about training with Eugene. My roommate and I both signed up to train with him and got amazing results despite our very different goals. My roommate was a guy interested in bulking up while I was interested in trimming down and toning. Eugene customized a program for each of us that got us results quickly. We both worked out as a pair and followed the customized diet plans he created for each of us and were able to see results quickly. He tailored each of our workout programs to our specific body goals and asked for our feedback along the way to make sure we were happy with the results that we were seeing. Eugene was really helpful in customizing the diet for my roommate and I. Even though he gave us very different diets to support our goals, we had mostly the same foods just in different portions. This made it easy for us to cook together. Eugene has a great personality and was a great motivator, often checking in to see how things were going along the way. We tracked progress not just with the weight on the scale, but he also did body fat testing. The body fat measurements showed me that I was making progress when I was building muscle and losing fat, but didn't show much change in weight. I really liked that he knew how to measure body fat and used that to track progress and adjust workouts. The workouts he designed were intense but he made them fun and enjoyable so they quickly became my favorite part of the week. During the workouts Eugene is really motivating and really helped to push me further then I would have on my own during each workout. He also is very knowledgeable about proper form so I knew I was always performing the exercises correctly and not risking injury. I think this really helped fast track my results and made it so that I got the most out of each and every training session that I had. Eugene is a true fitness genius! I returned from a trip to Thailand with an extra 20lbs and only had 3 months to get back into shape for another trip to Playa Del Carmen. Not only did I loose the extra weight but Eugene managed to help me lean down by 30lbs and dropped 4% body fat from 12% to 8%! I initially found Eugene on Yelp and was very impressed by the reviews and the before and after pics from his clients. I decided to give him a shot and was highly impressed. I have used personal trainers in the past but none have been more passionate about helping transform his clients as Eugene. Before even committing to purchasing sessions, he provided a full work up of my fitness by taking my measurements, including an ultrasound analysis to calculate my body fat, and discussing the fitness goal I wanted to achieve. I quickly received a follow up email outlining what was required to meet my goal in 3 months. I started on his fitness program right away. The program did not only include workouts but a very detailed nutrition program. He provided a very handy excel file that helped me calculate the calories and macros I should be consuming based on his assessment of what was needed to drop the fat. I was extremely excited to learn that the program only involved 2 days of cardio and 3 days of weightlifting. Much to my pleasure, I also learned that I needed to consume more carbs which was an added perk. Each week he also took updated measurements to make sure we were on track and adjusted the program as needed. I have a bad shoulder and lower back so he also modified the workouts to ensure I did not further injure myself and strengthen those weak areas. I couldn't believe how fast my body changed. There was such a noticeable difference within the first 3-4 weeks it made it easy to keep going. And I had a blast training with Eugene. He is very good at keeping you motivated, I was quite impressed. Some of the days that I would go train, I would be feeling down or stressed about work, but as soon as the workout began all the negativity goes away. I miss some of the funny comments he would make to keep me pumped up. A couple of the exercises I had difficulty with due to a shoulder issue, however, Eugene being the pro he is, was able to easily modify the exercise in a way that allowed me to be effective but not cause further injury. This review is for my 18 year old daughter who was returning home for the summer after her freshman year at college. She didn't gain the freshman 15 but she wanted to get fit, eat healthier, and get her knees (surgeries) and back stronger. She had a membership to a big super chain fitness club but she was looking for a little more one-on-one attention in a less mass market environment. We looked around, talked to a few and settled on Eugene. 1st visit was an assessment with pictures and measurements. Daughter was not thrilled with that and was less thrilled when Eugene said lose 15 pounds of fat along with eating healthier. WHAT?!? Daughter was already wondering what she was getting into. Eugene does 3 things: 1. Communicates with you - provides a written meal plan, workout days/times, written workout plan, measurements (includes pictures). For my daughter Eugene took assessments (measurements, photos) every 3 weeks. He also sent emails with videos of workout exercises, meals, etc. He makes sure he gives you more than enough information to be successful. 2. Meets with you regularly and accommodated daughter's changing work schedule with day or even night sessions. 3. One-on-one focus - watches your workouts, discusses form, makes corrections, pushes, etc. He's not distracted like some other trainers are with other clients, other people working out, etc. His attention is on you - no cheating. Eugene isn't one of those loud, in your face or look at me I'm the coolest trainer ever guys. He's focused on you, not himself. At the end of the summer (school starts early) and after 6 weeks of working out with Eugene, my daughter was feeling good. Her clothes were looser and she felt much fitter. When she had her last assessment she saw her before and after pics and measurements and was thrilled. She lost 10 pounds safely and lost inches where she needed to while getting stronger and fitter. The week to week progression may not be as noticeable but after 6 weeks she could see the difference in every picture (front, side, back). She was very happy and plans to follow the diet and workout plan at school. When she returns home for breaks she plans to resume training with Eugene. He was well worth the time and money. Eugene holds free group fitness classes in this gym, usually taking place in the afternoon of every other Saturday. So far I have attended four times. Although I did not carry any specific goals, it was enjoyable time. He makes good plans that are moderately challenging, with new elements in each of these sessions. He always brings energetic and encouraging attitudes, and provides insightful comments on health, food, and lifestyles. The facility is not too cold nor too windy, more friendly than other gyms I have been to. Overall. Not impressed. I thought I would be. I had high hopes. My overall impression of Eugene is negative and disappointing. Let me explain why. First. He does not do his own consults. He has an assistant do them. Yet he sits a couple yards away at the front desk of the club and listens while the assistant is doing the consult. Then when you question why he doesn't do the consult himself, he explains his role as similar to an eye surgeon. Saying that he is the expert and no eye surgeon would ever do a consultation themselves before performing surgery. Yes, it's true. I'm happy to share that email dialogue between Eugene and myself if anyone's interested. I personally found this comical, as to me, after working with many personal trainers over the years, know that you have to develop a very close in our personal one on one relationship with your personal trainer and it's more than just a simple consult as an eye doctor would have been trying to determine if someone needs surgery on their eye. Moving on, the second problem I had with Eugene. When I initially emailed him, I explained my very specific goals, my current weight, and My goal date (3 Months out), I also expressed my enthusiasm for working with him and my lack of issues surrounding any financial implications. When I received a response, it was a canned email response, with all of his rates, and his phone number, and instructions to contact him if I wanted a consultation, (which I had already requested in my initial email). It was very impersonal. I was fine with that because I am sure that he gets a lot of inquiries because his website and video made him look so high-caliber and impressive. I was also fine with the fact that he was not going to do the consultation himself....I could deal with it.....although I should mention the main reason I was was a put off by it, was after I saw his rates. When someone is requesting $120 Per hour for a fee, I feel the least you can do, is a one hour consultation on your own, versus offsetting that to an assistant. Needless to say I went to the consultation process with his assistant Emily and she was great. I left feeling motivated and enthusiastic and ready to get started. Emily had agreed that I was a great candidate for Eugene's training and that it was very realistic but I could meet my goal. In fact, I was so excited that I was actually realistic, that I had even left feeling motivated to encourage my boyfriend to work out with Eugene as well. A couple days later I got my results from Eugene. He agreed that I could reach my goal within three months. However, in that same communication he also told me that he only had one slot a week to see me. In that same communication he also told me that it would take three times a week to reach my goal weight. So I was confused. First, I was thinking to myself....ok, I have the money to pay you, yet you have 1 slot available a week, yet you are telling me I need three slots a week to hit my goal......and yet you don't have them available?!?. To me this seemed like a bait and switch. I was beyond frustrated and annoyed and angry. And just overall disappointed. I mean, why even bring me in for a consultation if you have no time to accept new clients? Why waste my time and get me excited with your plans and recommendations if you have no time to accept new clients? I expressed in my initial email to you, Eugene, that I didn't have time to wait I had a specific goal, with the specific motivation that I was reaching toward and you agreed that I could reach that goal .....and then you tell me that you have no time to accept me as a new client. To me, it's a bad business practice and misleading. And overall poor communication. Therefore, my only warning for those who are considering going to Eugene is to make sure that you have some sort of verbal communication with him one-on-one before you start this process so that you don't waste your time like I did. He's a lot of smoke and mirrors with all the things that he has on his website And he's a little too big for his britches, as far as I'm concerned! A very full of himself. read more

Eugene trained my friend and i saw that my friend got results quick!! like after 2 1/2 months, and working out 3 days a week, he got so lean!! I also saw this trainer on youtube and he is ridiculously in shape. If you're going to find a personal trainer, make sure he's fit. I used to use 24hr fitness 2 years ago, and the trainers there are wimps compared to this monster here in Irvine....I didn't train with Eugene but for the results i saw on my friend.....i'm giving this guy 5 stars! read more

Finally found a trainer that is AWESOME! Eugene will push you to your limits and is a trainer that really knows his stuff. He even wrote an awesome book that I highly recommend. He has an awesome diet and workout plan that will make you stronger both physically and mentally. If you want to see results, then Eugene is your man. He is very detail oriented when explaining workouts and truly cares about his clients unlike prior personal trainers I've worked with. He keeps the workouts intense but fun and my wife now thinks I'm a stud again thanks to Eugene. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! read more

Working with Eugene literally changed my life. His program is hard, it requires dedication, but it was so worth it. It took me 2 1/2 months to drop 10% body fat and put on a ton of muscle. Eugene is very specific about his goals for you. He's great at getting your form exactly where it needs to be, which is most important for me since I wanted to continue to be able to work out well after our program was through. Eugene offers the option of working with another person during your training time. I did this and never found that it impacted my ability to train. He gave great amounts of attention to both of us. In a world of "quick fixes" and "5 easy steps to fat loss", it is refreshing to find a trainer that cuts out the b.s. and focuses on the importance of consistent hard work and nutrition when it comes to getting his clients' results. I have followed Eugene's work for a while now (I live abroad and can't work with him directly) and have always been impressed with his programming and client transformations. I purchased his book "Laws of Aesthetics" the day it was released and followed one of the programs for many months. In that time I improved my bench (my nemesis as a long-armed individual) and leaned out a bit without modifications to my usual diet. I've trained with Eugene for 3 months now. I started off at 120 lbs (5'7") and am now 145 lbs. My chest measurement has increased FIVE inches, shoulders increased FIVE inches, arms increased 2.5 inches - in NINETY DAYS. The numbers speak for themselves, but let's be thorough. When you look for a trainer, you don't want a drill instructor spitting in your face and you don't want a pansy that's going to complain to you about his or her life. Eugene is the balance. He won't waste your time and he won't talk down to you, but he will push you to positive failure. You also don't want a trainer who is just going to teach you exercise motions. What makes Eugene a complete trainer is that he also has a fundamental understanding of the physiology and biochemistry behind exercise science. The guy had a 3.7 GPA at UCI - he's a smart guy. You get a complete program with him - diet plan, workout plan (from warmup to recovery strategies), and progression tracking through weekly measurements. Oh, and your form will be flawless (as you silently grin at others doing things all wrong). My personal experience was that after the first 30 days, I suddenly realized I looked like a different person. It's part personal trainer, part personal effort, so don't go thinking he's going to wave a magic wand to change you. The first couple sessions (especially) will kick your butt. Bottom line is: if you're going to get a trainer, make it count; don't skimp out. Don't waste your time on a cheap average Joe trainer at some chain gym just because you can save a few bucks and get a few extra sessions. Anyone can be a trainer nowadays. In the end, you get what you pay for. Find someone that has the results you want for yourself. Get that quality trainer once, learn what it takes to get the body you want, and after a few months, apply that knowledge on your own. I had one of the best and life changing experience with Eugene. He knows exactly what he's doing and designs a perfect workout plan to get immediate results. This is not going to be easy, he will push you until your body starts to cry but in the end, it's all worth it. You have to give it your best in order to leave with great results. You do build a one on one connection with him and follows up with you after your workouts to make sure you feel comfortable and satisfied. Not only will he teach you how to workout but also show you how important your diet is to your workout plan. By buying and cooking your food, you will feel so much better and save you so much money. Also recommend reading his book. Very simple and straight forward but with great points and definitely a way of changing your viewpoint in life. I have very busy schedule and had trouble with finding time to work out. I tried to work out on my own, and I just cannot get any result. Eugene helped me to plan my work out and diet plan. And he help me to keep up with the plan by closely monitoring my progress. So, I am able to lose more than 20 lbs in half a year. I have more energy and be able to handle my work and life better.
