I work from home and the day they said they were coming they never showed up and tried to charge me for an application. I was home the entire day and have cameras monitoring my property. Upon submitting my information online, I began being bombarded with sales calls and eventually, spoke with a gentleman who quoted me for 1/3 of the initial online estimate. He assured me there would be no "hidden charges" and only two services would be applied initially. Also, he assured me he would be there to assist in future matters. Once I gave my billing information, the phone call was quickly ended. A few days later, I was billed for more than two services, one I never even requested, and my estimate exploded to over +$200 the initial cost. I then spent hours speaking with multiple customer service agents and after hours of frustration, I cancelled all future services. The following day, after making a payment, I was double billed. Again, hours later, received no real help from customer service. Not to mention the services completed on my lawn were mediocre at best. Our lawn use to be the envy of our neighborhood. However, service for the last 2 years have been very disappointing. A couple of weeks ago, Tru Green came out for a scheduled fertilizer service and my husband asked the technician why the lawn was looking so dull and brownish. We had already complained the year before about this same problem. The tech told my husband he should go to the hardware store to get something to put on the lawn. My husband was shocked at his comment and replied that's what we pay your company for. Several days later after the fertilizer was applied, my husband was raking the grass and saw big amounts of small grains of fertilizer in sections of both the front and back lawn. Then a few days later, the lawn had turned yellowish looking and appeared dead looking. It rained a good deal that week and with all the rain we've had, coupled with running our sprinkler system, the lawn should've come back alive. (See attached picture.) We are certainly not experts but it appears that the tech applied way too much fertilizer in some sections of the lawn. We have reported this to TruGreen and have been given the run-around. They have promised they would send a manager out to look at the lawn. We told them to call first to make sure we're home. In another phone call, they said someone did come out. No one notified us. We called again for the status and we have to explain the problem again to several more people. It would be nice to speak to one person who will follow through. It's been several weeks and we're still waiting on the call from the manager. It's absurd this company treats their customer like this. Their customer service policy is seriously lacking! If it was possible to rate a company lower than 1 Star I would. Within the span of a month TruGreen destroyed my lawn to the point it's burnt and white. I had spent a large amount of money to have the lawn redone a few years back and in a month TruGreen killed it. Their claim - "cinch bugs" which seems to be a common answer in these reviews. Countless calls into CS, posts to Twitter and local Facebook groups, call backs promised and never followed up on from the local office. All lawn companies tell you it can take more than one year to get your lawn right. Well I gave them 3 full years and every year it got worse and worse. One year then actually ran the lawn aerator on my drive way creating hundreds of holes. Grass was brown or non existent in 90% of my lawn. The one thing they did well was few weeds but even then still some. Trying to reach a manager is near impossible. After 6 weeks the manager's EA (executive assistance) got back to me. she could do nothing. I hired a different company and they did one application of fertilizer and they did the lawn aerator and over seeding. My lawn already looks better. I will say it cost more than Tru Green but I would rather pay more for quality, actual phone call returns and progress. This is the third time within the last month and a half that I have written a bad review. First two related to: (1) absolutely destroying my yard when they aerated the yard and (2) barely performing a tick application (however in the 10 minutes that the technician was at my yard he did manage to spray and ruin my herb garden and raspberries). Like other reviews indicate, do not sign a contract with this company. I tried it for one year and canceled because I saw no benefit to my lawn. (Maybe because the product sucks, or maybe its because on at least one occasion, I noticed they fertilized my neighbors lawn and not mine). I also didn't like the fact the contract just auto-renews each year. Starting the day after I called to cancel, the constant harassment by phone and mail began. Its been 6 months, and I'm still getting multiple calls per month. Received one yesterday and the customer service rep laughed at me when I told them to stop calling me, only to receive another call today. I called it in twice over the years and they have sent specialists out who simply said yep, the grubs are getting worse and threw down some more grub killer... to no avail. Stay away from this company! The don't deserve any stars. I contracted with them for 6 applications. I received notification the driver was at my home to complete the application and another notification saying the application had been completed. They NEVER applied anything to my lawn. I called and told them I have two ring cameras AND I work from home and no one came onto my property and they argued with me. I spoke With the sales rep and his manager at the Windsor CT location and was informed they would research. I never heard back and then a week later I received a bill for services they NEVER performed. Do not trust them! How many people have they most likely done this to?? Save your money. I hired TruGreen 2 years ago after speaking with one of their representatives, showing him areas of concern with my lawn. They suggested an extensive program of treatment that would drastically improve the appearance of my lawn. After 2 years of treatments, my lawn looks no better today than it did 2 years ago. In fact, many of the treatments were done so quickly that I'm not convinced that anything at all was done. Whatever materials they were using were clearly ineffective if not totally inert. TruGreen has been servicing my lawn for 2 seasons now and has never looked worse. 2 years in a row now they burnt my lawn. Both times claiming it was "Typical of the season" because of the lack of water and hot weather. After the first year of them telling me this, I went out and got a sprinkler system. Not an excuse for the 2nd year. Don't believe a word these guys tell you. They are unqualified to diagnose any type of lawn problem. In fact they don't diagnose at all. After spending thousands of dollars with them (fertilizing, reseeding, aerating) I now have to spend thousands more to have someone else come in and fix their mistakes. 10/16/2018 update - I sent Chelsea (see response below) a message stating that I would love to discuss with her my issues. It's been 12 days and I have not heard anything back. So again, don't believe the lies. I have prepaid for the lawn service for more than 15 seasons. I also used to call the local office in Windsor, CT, for questions or requests and was always answered by a person, to my satisfaction. A week ago, my "local" call was directed to a central location where I was told that the wait to be answered is "longer than three hours"! I tried to call other offices in the state as well as some TruGreen national toll free 8xx numbers. All these calls were directed to the same "longer than three hours" wait queue. I just can not believe that a such large nationwide service company, as TruGreen, can get away with such a disgraceful customer service. Oh, yes, I finally got answered by one TruGreen number (844) 817-0972, the "call now for a quote" number. I was answered IMMEDIATELY by a person who told me that they only deal with prospective customers, have nothing to do with other Company operations, and can not help me. They have the worst customer service I have ever experienced. They applied product to an area they were not supposed to go into and it killed our sod. Their answer was that it is a cinch bug that caused the sod to die. I requested a call to discuss it and they did not call back. I don't understand how the bugs could kill the sod in straight lines like their machines. It was perfectly green grass till they applied fertilizer in an area that was not part of the contract. And the imaginary cinch bugs have not killed the other parts of the yard. I now have to replace it at my expense because they won't take responsibility. After cutting the grass that was contaminated with rust mold from TruGreen. Using contaminated equipment on my lawn has now killed off the nice green grass I had. I finally had to cut and bag all the contaminated grass. TruGreen promised to put fungicide on the lawn to kill the mold then later a manager calls and starts yelling at me stating I was only trying to get a free service. Well did they expect me to pay for them contaminating my lawn with rust mold? I was told they are not going to do anything period. They also stated they had other customers that have rust and they are not going to do anything for them either. They even lied again on their response to my Better Business Bureau complaint when they stated my neighborhood and state was infected with rust mold. Actually I had the only rust mold infected lawn in my neighborhood. The manager that responded never came out to see the mess. Well my account is canceled and I did get the balance refunded. About a week later on Sep 25 I was notified by the general manager from TruGreen at the Windsor, CT office that he was directed by corporate to refund all my money including what I paid to Turf Master for the years service I had prepaid. Waiting on that check though. I was also told that corporate was taking over my complaint. Well I'm waiting to hear from their corporate office. My lawn as you will see in the attached pictures is now mostly dead. I have a few green spots most of which are a combination of weeds and crabgrass that was not affected by the rust mold. What I expect from TruGreen and have said this from the beginning of my complaint is: Return my lawn back to what it was prior to the rust contamination, spray the fungicide as promised by one of their staff, apologize for screaming at me over the phone and return my money. The did do one, returning my money. Problem is now I have to pay to have my lawn sprayed with fungicide and reseeded and hopefully in the spring have green grass again. I already spent over $300.00 cleaning up the moldy grass when I cut the grass. I have 11,000 sqft of infected former green grass area. As I have told TruGreen several times I researched Rust Mold and found it goes dormant and then reappears if not treated. It blocks photo synthesis from happening which weakens the grass to the point other diseases kill the grass. I am posting pictures taken on Sep 25 & 26 after cutting the rust contaminated grass of my lawn. You can judge it yourself. This is what TruGreen needs to fix. As a disabled veteran I cannot do the work myself and will have to spend more money hiring someone to fix TruGreen's mess. I am not asking them for anything more than bringing my lawn back to its former green color and thickness. I hope no other customer ever has to go through what I have been put through by TruGreen. As I have stated they did return my balance and said they are returning what I paid for this year and appreciate that, they are however responsible for the mess and should take responsibility for damages caused by their failure to ensure contaminated equipment is cleaned prior to servicing another lawn. Technician, Jeremy is very knowledgeable - really has a good handle on the trees and shrubs on our property and is great at spotting problems and treating them promptly and, most importantly, effectively. I'm convinced the treatment program we began last year has saved several trees and shrubs on our property. Too much for me to tackle on my own and definitely covers a lot more than I was ever able to do on my own. When we initially signed up for TruGreen our lawn looked terrible, and TruGreen took less than a full season to improve it dramatically, by year two it was nearly flawless. Fast forward to year 4... starting to get a lot of weeds again and it's looking just eh. This year, against our better judgement we signed up again, holing last year was a fluke. Well it wasn't. But now here's the real problem. They will come back and retreat if you have weeds, EXCEPT that they seeded (for $485) in AUGUST, then wouldn't come retreat because it would kill the seed. I told them I was done and to cancel. They came again. Then called to tell me I owed for a mosquito treatment - we were sold 3 treatments for $109 and got two for $118 (that's interesting math). I told them I was done, had already cancelled and if they showed up for the lawn again I wasn't paying. They promised to have a manager call me. You can probably guess one never did... but they tried to come treat again! I called again, this time a manager shows up and we work out an arrangement. They were coming for a final treatment today and he would follow up about the balance and whatever he could do. Nope. Never showed up. I called, and the balance hasn't been adjusted either.
