We've been wanting to try the Birria pizza so we finally went last night. Got there about six so we definitely beat a rush. I think on Wednesdays karaoke bingo starts at seven. The business was decorated definitely for the Christmas spirit. Our server was attentive and nice. We ordered the spicy pickles. It's not my usual go-to appetizer, but I'm glad we went with it because I would get them again. Just enough spice to add some good flavor. We went with the Birria pizza, which was a special of the month in November, but it must've been so popular that they put it on their forever menu. I'm a Birria taco lover, but it was a bit different than the Birria tacos but still great. There are so many different flavors on this pizza and a cheesy queso sauce to boot. The dipping sauce has a lot of cumin, but it was delicious. I'm glad it's on the menu. Definitely will be back. read more

We are incredibly disappointed to say that we will never return to Truman's after our experience this week. This was the second time we were served by the same waitress, and her behavior was just as unacceptable as before. She slammed dishes onto the table, rolled her eyes, gave us dirty looks, and treated us as though we were an inconvenience. She showed absolutely no warmth, professionalism, or basic courtesy. What made this especially upsetting was that we had brought family visiting from Arizona to one of our longtime favorite casual restaurants. They were shocked by how rude and unwelcoming the service was. We actually left shortly after she approached our table for the third time because the experience had become so uncomfortable. No one should feel unwelcome while dining out. We used to eat at Truman's at least once a week and genuinely enjoyed it. Unfortunately, one employee has completely changed our opinion of the restaurant. If management addresses this issue, we would consider returning. Until then, we'll be taking our business elsewhere. read more

Truman's Pizza Review (Delivery Experience) We ordered from Truman's using a delivery service, which always adds a bit of mystery to how the food will arrive. Luckily for us, this time it showed up fresh and hot! This review focuses on Truman's food quality, as experienced through a delivery order. My wife Kim is a pizza fanatic, so we're always trying new spots! She ordered a garlic cheese bread which was fantastic and came delivered with dipping sauce. This could easily serve as a meal on its own! The main event was the Mahome's pizza. It was a bit messy - with random chunks of topping not evenly distributed and obviously just thrown together (this wasn't a delivery issue, but how it was prepared by Truman's). Regardless, as this is a minor complaint, the pizza was delicious. I enjoyed all of the toppings with the exception of the hamburger; it was just unspiced, browned hamburger. I find it odd to put something with no flavor on a pizza. The pizza sauce saved the day as it's amazing and has a ton of flavor. Then there was the crust - it was thin, but not too thin. It had those cool bubbles and somehow managed to be perfectly chewy and crispy at the same time! (Sounds impossible, but it really was). While I'll definitely prefer to go and eat at Truman's in person next time, the delivery itself was surprisingly good considering the distance they had to travel. I hope Kim tipped well! We are from Az here for the nationals rodeo. we got samplers and beers, and enjoyed!! everything on the sampler plater seemed homemade, and if it wasn't, they fooled me!! Stopped in here for a breakfast before a long day of officiating youth basketball. I was heartened and saddened at the same time to see a great beer selection--something I was unable to partake in on this particular visit. A few from Boulevard, as well as several other local taps. With water as my beverage of choice, I selected the southern eggs benedict for my dish. The portion was great; the sausage patties flavorful, and the hashbrowns had the perfect mix of crunchy/non-crunchy. They were also happy to add onions to my hashbrowns. The service was excellent--staff checked in regularly and were helpful in answering questions. A must stop on the east side of downtown. read more

First time here and I would return. Truman's is conveniently located right off Martin Luther King drive south of the East Village. With a bike trail running right past it, we did see some bicyclists. Everyone at my table of 8 ordered pizzas, and all seemed happy with their choices. I tried the French dip and it did not disappoint. Lots of TV's, no game on this day so they had upbeat rock music playing loud enough to feel like a sports bar but not so loud we could eat talk. Their Bloody Marys used to be good. They changed the Bloody Mary mix to something else that is overwhelmingly like liquid smoke and to me is disappointing and very hard to drink. So if you want a Bloody Mary with your food I don't recommend going here unless they change it so you can get what they used to use before they changed it Food is awesome and so is service read more

Updated Review: Have been coming here for a while now and this is my "go-to" pizza spot. The past 3 times I've stopped by experience hasn't been so great. The first time we had an "issue" was during brunch, which they were busy understandable, however our server was having trouble putting our order in and it took a while to get our food. However not a big deal as it was busy so I dismissed it. The 2nd time, we came in the evening, the host sat us outside immediately and then left. I don't think she let our serve know we were siting outside. We waited about 20 minutes then my boyfriend went inside to "use the restroom" he said the lady seemed confused and shortly after the server came to check on another table that was out there. She apologized and told me "I didn't know you were out here". Nothing comped, nothing more than a quick "sorry". We didn't take it out on the server as the host just left and seemed to not have told anyone. The most recent time, again we sat on the patio, someone folding napkins told us we could sit outside so we went and sat outside. Our server came to take our order and noticed we didn't even have menus. We ordered drinks and an app. We waited 20 minutes for 2 waters. At this point we were ready to order however, we ordered food and from the time we sat to the time we ordered our food it was 1 hour. I understand that some people like to sit and drink and talk, but when I go out, I'm there to eat and then let's go. We did order a new app which were cheese balls, they were okay, I do wish they had cheese curds on the menu. The cheeseballs had the breading like a corn dog and it was too thick for me, but the cheese pull was nice. We would order drinks and it would take 10 minutes if not more. Keep in mind this is late at night, it didn't seem extremely busy, maybe 6 tables? We were all pretty irritated when our food came out. My friend asked for jalapeños on his pizza, they didn't get added so the server brought him a side of jalapeños, now there is a flavor difference when they're cooked in versus just added on top cold. We ate then paid. Now, I'm all for leaving a tip, I always leave a tip, I would say most people my age don't leave a tip. But I could just not after this experience. We paid and didn't leave a tip, another friend who was with us asked for change for some cash, the server looks at us and says "did you guys want change too? I notice you didn't leave a tip" I shrugged the comment off and politely said "No thank you". After waiting 20 minutes for 2 plain ice waters , amongst the long wait for food and not so great service, what would you have done? A downtown staple. If you like eggs Benedict, you've got to stop for the pizza. Perfect eggs, tasty sauce, on a crispy crust. Kat was on point with peanut butter whiskey coffee and provided great service. Highly recommend this place in your breakfast rotation. read more

The first thing you see is that it is an old house that has been remodeled into a restaurant. You have to look closer at the sign to see the next item of significance - "KC" in the name of the restaurant. If you are a Kansas City Chiefs fan, you will love this place - especially, I'm told, during football season. For our meal, we ended up sharing a Korean BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich (see picture) on the suggestion of the bartender as we weren't that hungry and had eaten some at one of the other stops on the Summer Stir. As the bartender suggested, the Korean BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich was very good - moist, quality bun surrounding juicy flavorful pulled pork. The french fries were undercooked to my taste - barely crispy on the outside and mushy inside, but I kept the food at a 4* due to the sandwich. Had brunch outside before an Iowa cubs game. Great place to sit outside. Waitress was pleasant as was manager. My loaded skillet with bacon was really good. The brioche toast was yummy. Husband enjoyed his biscuits and gravy. Friends shared a burrito and sausage and it was OK. Girls had the strawberry drinks and they were tasty and guys had bloody Mary's. Came back on our next to last day here. This is the only restaurant we ate at twice. Ate the meatball margarita nothing fancy but solid, don't know about you but that is all I ask for! Ordered a small cheese pizza , 14 inch Hawaiian pizza and the appetizer sampler. The appetizer sampler was extremely greasy and soggy, and the container had dips inside with lids not on tight thus resulting in a mess. Thank you Truman's for opening early for the 8.30 football game the Sunday we popped in. We were thrilled to be able get right in and find a spot at the bar even though it was relatively busy. Plenty of screens for watching the game! We ordered breakfast and were not disappointed at all. Eggs benedict was good and I had my fill with the Truman breakfast (eggs, toast, hash browns, bacon) the bacon was really good- not see through like some places. This place has an amazing opportunity (lots of beers on tap, great pizza and TVs well positioned for games) but falls short from being a KC pizza tavern. It is not a place to go if you prioritize health, and one of the main TVs is failing without any attention from management. Otherwise the food is so-so other than the pizza. The management definitely does not prioritize KC sports or atmosphere in any manner and they seem to be annoyed by customers in general. Too bad, as we have had some great times there and spent tons of $$ over the past 2 decades but after one mistake while trying to share a pizza, we are no longer welcome at all! Sad really. Our crime: They did not provide a pizza stand and set our pizza down on the bar to the right side of me when I was sharing with the person to my left. I set it up on the napkin holder between us so he could reach the pizza as well. When he went to get a piece, he accidentally knocked the entire pizza off the napkin stand into the bar area. It was a really dumb mistake on our part but the manager came and summarily told us to leave. I am very sad it came to that but also upset that he did not listen to anything we had to say and dismissed us as drunks because we had been in there since 10am that morning... even though I was drinking nothing but coca cola all morning. I'm a huge fan and not just because I am from KC! Everything we had was amazing. The onion rings were to die for. Very lightly breaded and not greasy at all. The wings were good. The pizzas were amazing. Had the fall one with apple butter and the south sider. Both delicious. My only "complaint" is that my daughter wanted a buffalo chicken wrap which is on the lunch menu and they said they couldn't make it for dinner which is weird because on the dinner menu they have a turkey wrap and they have a buffalo chicken salad so....... The French dip pizza was amazing. We split it among 3 adults (2 girls, 1 guy), and the bigger 14" pizza was perfect. It was so good I could have eaten another slice (or 2), but then I would have been too full to go drink after so the single pizza really worked out well. I also really liked the crust with just a little bit of char on it. We went on a busy Friday night and the pizza still came out very quickly. Only complaint is that it was hot outside that day and their A/C wasn't doing much and they didn't have any fans going inside either for air movement, so we were a bit warm. Our first time at Truman's--but it will not be our Last! We hear about this place all the time on the radio, so we were determined to find it! From the outside--it looks similar to what your neighbor's house may have looked like when you were a kid. But then you notice the KC Chiefs signs all over and you know you are in the right place! I ordered the Fall Classic pizza. I can't recommend it enough. The toppings are a harmonious blend that compliment each other so well. I wouldn't expect the apple butter, BBQ sauce, and cilantro to taste so good together, but they do! I would definitely recommend trying out their other special pizzas too, they have a great selection. Definitely is now one of my new favorite pizza places. This location is on the edge of downtown, they even have their own parking lot for customers so you don't have to park on the street. They have patio seating, dine-in, and takeout. How I waited as long as I did to try this place out is beyond me. Finally went to see what all the buzz was about. Ordered the fried pickles & pepper jack cheese balls For an appetizer which both were to die for! Some of my favorite that I've ever tried. The breading held everything together & they were served hot & fresh. The cheeseballs have a great taste & not exactly spicy but delicious!! Restaurant ranch is my favorite & theirs was no exception! Also ordered The Balboni pizza & loved it! As for drinks I ordered the Blackberry Tea which has 0% tea & 100% tastiness! The blackberry syrup is house made & has the perfect tartness to it.
