The street-level negative when we got there and again when we were leaving was the significant construction on Ingersoll...leaving entry a little tricky and exit a bit dangerous due to low visibility caused by equipment. Once we got inside, Margot was quick to come to our table, took good care of us throughout the evening and made some great suggestions for our meals. I had read about the Crab Rangoon Nachos and since Margot also recommended them, we started with an order (see picture) along with a Backpocket Lemon Shandy (see picture). WOW - these were every bit as good as the positive reviews and while the other food was also good, the nachos were the highlight of our meal! For our meals, my wife ordered the 10 Wing Double Snack split between Honey Garlic & 10 Spice (dry) - both on Margot's recommendation (see picture). I opted for the Sourdough Smash on Margot's recommendation (see picture) with krinkle fries. As we usually do, we shared tastes of each others dishes and really enjoyed everything. While I'm not a huge garlic fan, I did really like the Honey Garlic wings and found myself dipping the smash burger in the extra sauce. Numerous Cityview awards were on display on their trophy shelf (see picture). I believe one of these awards is what caused me to add The Station on Ingersoll to my Want to Go list but regardless of the source, I was not disappointed. I got the cheese curds and wings with a fries basket, very delicious. The wings were tender, fry seasoning was good, they also have great ranch. I got the honey garlic wings but I definitely want to try one of their dry rubs next time. The cheese curds appetizer comes with sauce options, went with garlic aioli and chipotle ranch, both were great choices. Came in to watch the NCAA, they have a ton of tvs here. Located on Ingersoll, The Station is brightly lit and has an abundance of tv's focused on sports of all flavors. There are at least 6 beers on tap including locals and plenty in bottles and cans. The food menu is your typical bar food of burgers, salads, and assorted sandwichs. With food orders they offer a "bottomless" fries which is highly unusual although I found them to be too salty. Food is decent but unimaginative, service is friendly. My main complaint is with 5+ tv's going they also have the volumes on which makes it hard to listen to one and overly noisy. Suggest having the volume on for one game and mute everything else. read more

A couple of my friends felt trying a different spot that our normal hangouts. We landed on The Station after doing some online research. We're very glad we checked this place out. The bartender that served us (I think her name was Erica? That's what the receipt says anyhow) was very efficient, checked in regularly, and did what many bartenders don't do these days--made conversation. She was fantastic; I hope if you visit you get her as well. The fries served with the burgers and sandwiches are bottomless--you can even get more a couple of hours later if you need something greasy to soak up the alcohol. The garlic turkey melt was fantastic--perfectly toasted bread and a generous portion of turkey. Drink prices are fair even outside of happy hour; I think my total bill was $43 for the sandwich and about six or seven drinks. I ordered the garlic turkey melt and add the spicy. it was very delicious. the side of pasta salad is a mayo based and was delicious. i also tasted the pizza burger. Went here for lunch and it was ideal. Towny bar standards of course - I got a nice juicy burger and my partner got a tasty grilled chicken sandwich with real mashed avocado. The sweet potato fries were a big hit, with pretzel salt. Prices are about in line with everything else these days but not terrible. Service was fantastic but they were pretty slow. The decor is sporty but towny cozy with nice big wooden booths and comfy bar stools. I'd absolutely come back and sample more of the menu. read more

Mid-week stop in to catch up with a friend over salads and drinks. We both ordered salad- mine with chicken and her's with fried cauliflower. They looked good but missing something in the flavor department. Our server was friendly and attentive- not too attentive as she could see that we were chatting and catching up. It's definitely a neighborhood bar feel. The people at the bar seemed to be regulars. There was a gentleman at the bar, with a disability, watching a baseball game and having dinner. Multiple people stopped and talked with him about the game. At one point he got excited and was a bit louder and the bartender scolded him and said something we couldn't hear- it visibly upset him. She walked away and made another comment to him. He finished his drink and left before the game was over. There were 3 ladies at the bar who then said something to the bartender and asked for their checks. We saw the exchange happen and also asked for our check. Not a business we can support. A group of 4 of us went on a Friday night, and when we got there about 6, they weren't all that busy. We got in our drink orders, and they came out quickly, and we ordered our food. The crowd grew pretty quickly over the next hour, and with temps dropping on the patio, it was better than half full as well. We got our food pretty quickly though, and it was WAY better than the typical Des Moines bar fare. Now, this is a very casual place, but the food is top notch for this category. I got the BLTC, which had fresh tomatoes, lots of thick and tasty bacon, lettuce, and my choice of cheese (lots to pick from). I went for the creamy maccaroni salad, which was as delicious as the sandwich - I devoured it all. My wife got the chicken salad - homemade and very tasty as well. She and one other diner at our table got the bottomless fries. They are crinkle cut, and have a nice seasoning on them....yes, I stole a couple, er a few...OK more than that. Another in our party got the Havarti Turkey Club, which he said was excellent, and the last diner in our party got the Firecracker Salad. Now, it's a salad, but her's was loaded with WonTons. She said the sauce wasn't all that spicy, and she did recommend getting the dressing on the side. One of our diners said he wished they had sweet potato fries as an additional option to their nice list of sides, but other than that, we could think of no room for improvement. Their house wines are much better than the typical very low end ones that many places carry (I know, many Iowans are fine with them; I like a bit better option at least). They carry my favorite vodka, and the drinks were all nicely prepared. I bought several orders of wings and they tasted like frozen wings that had been microwaved and slathered in some cheap sauce. The fries also tasted like they had been microwaved. The pretzel bites were stale. Overall, the food left a lot to be desired. As someone that avoids fast food, I'd rather make a trip to McD's than repeat this experience. The inside seemed a bit cold and I usually am warm all the time. The food was as described - I had the sourdough smash and the burger was good. My chips seem to have come from the end of the bag and were lots of crumbs and a bit stale. My friends had the Cobb salad and the crispy chicken salad. Both were ok but nothing to get excited about. Honestly, my biggest issue were the prices. I think if this meal were more in the $8-10 range per menu item I could see returning quite a bit. I don't think the food supports $15 entree quality. Food was nothing special. For a signature 'Station Burger' I was really expecting something fantastic. It was for from. Basic, nothing extraordinary. Came in with large party from a sporting event and the waitress we had was not the best. We travel all over the country for youth sports and this was by far the most disorganized waitress I have ever had. Suggested ordering and keeping things sorted by player number, but apparently that was too confusing. The 20% for a large party was expected, but after things went sideways with missed food, cold burgers, sending side back at least twice for not being hot, the 20% should have been waived. Terrible service. Then to add to it all, the waitress made it very clear that the 20% does not go to her, so we were expected to tip on top of the 20%. Good luck with that. Not my job to pay your salary for poor service. Needless to say, The Station is on our Do not Return to list for any upcoming events. read more
