I made a commitment regarding reviewing this hotel that I have put off, but no longer. I would be rating this hotel a 5 with the greatest enthusiasm behind it, except that the hot tub was not working during my recent stay. I was told, much to my surprise and displeasure, that it had not been working for 2 years! The website said it was "temporarily out of order" when I booked the room. I hoped it would be repaired by the time of my stay, not realizing the serious of the situation until I arrived. The woman at the front desk told me she had been trying to expedite the repairs with management. I told her I would also let the Marriott Corp. know that I would like very much for them to make the repairs ASAP. The hot tub ends up being a deal breaker for me on future trips because, considering the price differential between this hotel and others nearby that are reasonably clean and comfortable, the hot tub benefit is what justifies the additional cost. That is only because of a good government employee discount I get at Marriott hotels. If not for that, this place would most likely not even be within a reasonable price range for me, but with that discount and the hot tub available, it's a deal worth taking. There are other benefits to this hotel, compared to others in the area that people might consider worth paying an additionally for, but for me, the hot tub is the one that matters. The interior at ground level and the exterior grounds are both excellent. The on-site restaurant is good and not exceedingly expensive. So if they reopen the hot tub I will jump to rate it a 5. read more

First off, when I checked it it was only one elevator working for the entire hotel to use. The concierge's lounge didn't serve breakfast, they served food for only 2 and a half hours and there wasn't much variety in the snacks that were offered. The one night I did manage to get food, it made me sick. I was sick all night throwing up. They only had one microwave I. The entire hotel for guests to use which was located next to the service desk. So if you were on the 5 floor you would have to go downstairs any time you wanted to heat up food. At least have one on each floor.I stayed there a week and room service cam to my room only once the whole week even though they say they offer housekeeping daily. The food was ok in the restaurant in the lobby (pictured) but nothing to really write home about. I had to ask for trash bags to put in my garbage cans. The staff however were really nice, but I think they are severely understaffed. There were also several events going on like a prom and a graduation which just made staying here more inconvenient for business travelers. I will not be staying here again. read more

We stayed here for a wedding located off-premises. We had a room with a king bed, which was really comfortable. We were able to request a microwave for the room, and they got it up to us quickly. My biggest issue is that the elevators and other common space stuff are pretty outdated. The carpet in the hallways gives The Shining vibes. Two stars. It would be one if not for the staff. I've stayed at the Marriott Trumbull dozens of times over the past four years. This used to be an easy, reliable choice whenever I was in the area. Over the last year, though, the property has clearly gone downhill, and the only reason I kept coming back was the people. Most of the bartenders are great, and the front desk team is consistently solid. The staff is the one consistent bright spot here. The problem is everything else. On multiple recent visits, the lobby has had a noticeable sewage smell. This isn't subtle or occasional. It's recurring, and the fact that staff openly acknowledge it tells you it's not being actively resolved. The elevator situation is even worse. Two of the three elevators have been out for months. I know that because I've stayed here repeatedly and seen the same issue every time. An insider told me they may not be fixed until the end of 2027. If that's even close to true, it's completely unacceptable for a hotel of this size. On this most recent stay, the issues extended into the room. The tub and sink wouldn't drain. For anything more than a one-night stay, that would have been a dealbreaker. What's frustrating is that this isn't one bad visit. It's a pattern. I would not stay here again until the property is refurbished. My first impression upon entering was that it was "woefully outdated!" As I walked around, I also noticed the poor maintenance. There was gum on the carpets in the elevators, ripped wallpaper in the halls, a wet and saggy ceiling in my shower from an obvious leak above, no USB outlets in the room, and ripped curtains. They are clearly milking this property for all it's worth before updating it--sad! Regarding the check-in process, the lady who assisted me was very friendly and nice. However, checking in took forever due to an issue with their reservation system. She had to create a new reservation for me, which is now not showing up in my account. I have to follow up to get credit for it and also had to follow up for a receipt. The location is decent for most places in Shelton and even for getting to New Haven. January 2026 review-Hotel- Bed was good & room was clean. Older and you can tell but comfortable. Stayed about a week. No jacuzzi but they do have indoor pool and gym. After being in my room for approx. 3 hours, I received a Fraud alert from my bank notifying me that "Trumbull Marriott, Shelton" attempted to take $856.75 from my account; therefore my card was closed. The issues I experienced during my stay were real, and I still see them as opportunities for the property to grow and improve. That said, I want to acknowledge the General Manager, who personally reached out to understand better what happened and how things could have been handled differently. What stood out to me was that his communication didn't feel like an attempt to change my opinion, it felt like a genuine effort to respond, sharing what he had learned, and providing a commitment to improve the guest experience moving forward. He took the time to engage thoughtfully, and that made a real impression. After our exchange, I can honestly say I would recommend giving this hotel another shot. I believe the GM is committed to making meaningful changes and ensuring future guests receive a stay that not only meets but exceeds brand standards. I don't know where the breakdown in communication happened, but our stay at this property felt more like a "no-tell motel" off I-95 than anything I've ever associated with the Marriott brand. I aware that renovations were supposed to be happening, but what we experienced was beyond disappointing. The lobby was essentially unusable, doubling as a hangout space for a senior living group temporarily housed at the hotel, when they were not waiting to have meals dispensed like would be seen at a soup kitchen, not how seniors should ever be treated. So much for connecting with colleagues in the lobby, lounge or bar. The concierge lounge? Locked both times I tried to grab a drink or snack. Hallways constantly reeked of weed, think Cheech and Chong levels of smoke. I'm genuinely concerned I may have picked up a contact high. Peace and quiet? Not a chance. Loud arguments, yelling in the hallways, and people fighting over who knows what in their rooms and hallway made it impossible to relax. Add in the elevator situation, one had a broken door sensor that nearly crushed my wife, and the other randomly took us to the wrong floors, and of course smelled of weed ... you get the picture. I also spoke to the front desk during our stay, and the agent's lack of empathy was staggering, she'd be better suited for an info kiosk at DMV than the hospitality industry. Stayed one night on a business trip. Our company booked a block of rooms for over 80 employees. Our flight was delayed and we ended up checking in three hours later. By that time, they only had a room for me with two full-size beds available. My wife came with me and it would have been nice to have a King or Queen sized beds. Room and bed were comfy, but the ceiling was dirty. We didn't have time to peruse the hotel, but I heard they have an indoor pool. They had hot breakfast buffet available serving scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes, but it would cost you $15.99. Marriott should make this complimentary and the price is definitely not worth it for me. Luf Children's Burn Camp at the Trumbull Marriott Shelton. The evening started off with a cocktail and hors d'oeuvres hour in the spacious corridor by the ballrooms. There was a huge charcuterie table, pulled pork, cheeseburger, and fried chicken sliders, and butler service with trays of eggrolls and mini franks in a blanket. I skipped the sliders, and had a little of everything. I really liked the eggrolls best. There was an open bar and a self service soda station, and a big room across the hall where a slew of items were auctioned off. I was fortunate to win the auction for some restaurants gift cards. When it was time to sit down we were ushered into Grand Ballroom Salon F for dinner and the formal program. We had a table for eight and dinner included a nice basket of mixed rolls, a dinner salad, an two entree choices The first was a beef/chicken combination with mashed potatoes and carrots, and a sweet potato gnocchi plate served solo for the vegetarian choice. Coffee and a fantastic slice of chocolate cake wrapped things up. The service from everyone we interacted with was excellent, and the ballroom sound and speaker system were perfect. Oh, and they have a great location, pretty much where Route 8 and the Merritt Parkway criss-cross. read more

I stayed here one night for a conference. Sadly, it was when the worst of the smoke was happening and I didn't go outside. I had a standard king room which had a lovely view of the roof. The room was well appointed but missing an iron and shampoo. I ate the breakfast buffet which was nice but not $13 worth. I've had the same quality and better buffets included in the room price at lower quality hotels. I did hit up the bar with colleagues and the bartender did a nice vodka soda. Picking seem to be slim in the area but it was still a nice stay. read more

3.5 This is a decent place to stay at in Trumbull especially if you are usually out and about and just there to rest your sleepy head. However, the rooms are outdated and could use an uplift. The elevators were a bit jumpy as well and could use an adjustment. Aura and Seeta took care of me for the days I was visiting Connecticut. They were very kind and helpful (rate 5 for them) If you are a Bonvoy member that has access to the lounge, there are limited hours. You can't just go in anytime. read more

I stayed there 6/20-6/22/25 for my nieces "Sweet 16" celebration. The front desk personnel were very nice and very accommodating. The room was clean. The only issue that I had is that I had paid for my stay in advance through a third party. Marriott charged me another $186.13 and said that it was a hold on my credit card when I spoke to Darline Ferrer. My credit card company is telling me it was a charge. As of today's date 7/9/25 nothing has been resolved. I have called and left a voicemail for the account manager Mr. Lesko to call me back regarding this situation and I haven't heard back. This has been a very frustrating situation. A hold on your credit card would have been returned in 3 days after your stay. I will not be staying at this hotel again. read more

Do I recommend this hotel? Maybe. Depends what you're in town for. I was in town for 1 night for my husband's high school reunion so this was perfect and nearby...we just needed a bed and a shower. Our room was clean, tv worked, shower worked, hair dryer worked...no real complaints except dangit, I hate scratchy towels!!!!!! Husband did mention this place used to be the sh*t, there used to be a bar or club in here and everyone would come and party. "Where are you going?...Trumbull Marriott." Now she's a little aged and definitely needs some TLC. We didn't get to take advantage of the pool, gym, restaurant or room service but the families hanging around seemed pretty content I guess. Also, I did notice that when I got off the elevator and onto the floor of my room it smelled like cigarette...kinda like when you used to visit your friend's house after school and their mom was a chain smoker. The smell of cigarette is embedded in the walls and carpet, it was mild and not too offensive but definitely noticeable. In the morning you can hear the sound of hotel doors opening and slamming which is a pain, but I guess expected. read more

Everything was great! From my arrival checkin to when I left it was all pleasant and amazing. When you come in the guy at the desk had on a suit, he was moving fast and was very very friendly. He showed me things on the app as well as giving me a lot of knowledge on discounts. Then our room was nice clean and it was in a quiet area cause we traveled with our children. The restaurant staff was amazing the food was fresh hot and delicious! I was so impressed I left a $50 tip for the waitress! The front desk knowingly gave me a room card that didn't work with the lock. When I brought it to their attention, they pretended to "fix" the problem, which fixed nothing. Every time I left my room, I was locked out. More than once, the (nice) engineer had to be summoned to open the door while I waited for him in the Arctic hallway with AC blasting. Also no soap dishes, which is a tiny annoyance but a revealing one: This places pinches pennies and doesn't mind irking guests. This is the worst Marriott I've ever stayed at. It has an old haunted feeling to it. The elevator la take foreverrr! The room has a humid carpet smell. Our shower didn't have any soap. The bottle is there but it's empty. The faucet is leaking & we could hear the water drops all night. There's a huge crack in the shower wall. Room service is inconvenient since you can't order until after 5pm. The hallways are loud because the doors have to get slammed shut or they won't lock. If you don't care about anything except sleeping on a bed and leaving then sure stay here. But if a hotel is part of your vacation experience, find somewhere nicer. read more

We had a wonderful two night stay. Loved the pool area: nice and clean! Spacious facility with a lobby so grand; conference rooms, and reading rooms: with couches and overstuffed chairs, no one in fear of ever having to stand. People, everyone, were also grand; very pleasant and friendly and nice, we felt like family, but without the strife. And when, inadvertently, our home keys were drop by a stand, a stranger, so courteous, delivered them to the front desk, where it all began. Sheets are damp, bed is uncomfortable, low ceilings make the room feel like a dungeon. Dirt on the bathroom wall. They change the sheets once every three days. I'm paying $269.00 a night for this. None of the extra items I ordered were in the the room. Elevator Door on "Concierge" floor. Beat to hell and dirty. No "Concierge" lounge on Saturday and Sunday but they charged me for it anyway. Weird, smelly carpets in the hallways. Beat up hallway walls. Ridiculous long walks from the elevator to the room. This place is jus going through the motions at this point. Basic maintenance has not been done. This has the feeling of a place that once was grand and now they are squeezing every nickel out of it. Narrow hallways. Tiny bathrooms. This is not a full service Marriot. I'm counting down the hours til I can leave. Now I listening to every word of a loud argument in the next room or hallway. This place has gone from bad to scary. Wish I read the reviews here first. Being a Marriott I thought there would be certain standards that would be met, but like others have said this one is old and run down. Still, I could deal with that. What I am about to walk out of the hotel for is that it has become completely overrun by a little league sports tournament. This is night number two of kids running up and down the halls, screaming, and taking over all of the common areas (there is absolutely no way we can use the pool or business center). The parents are all drunk and just as loud as the kids. The staff is completely overwhelmed. Would love to make a complaint and get some sort of credit but it seems like a lost cause. This experience has me swearing off not just Marriotts, but all large hotels at this point. read more

As a frequent business traveler, I often stay in Marriotts. I have found them uniformly very good to excellent. This Marriott is the exception. It is an older, run-down hotel that somehow keeps its agreement with Marriott. It is an embarrassment to the brand. My wife and our two daughters stayed overnight en route to Boston. We arrived after midnight, and that is the only reason we didn't turn around and leave immediately after checking in. Where to begin? Most elevators out of service. Filthy carpet, peeling wallpaper, and chipped paint in the hallways. What looks like black mold on the ceiling in the room (see photo). Water-damaged drywall in the room. Wet spot on room carpet. Air-conditioning system grinding gears all night. Hair stuck to the shower tile. I suggest avoiding this place at all costs. read more

Stayed here for one night for my friend's wedding! Thankful I was able to get my room at 10am even though check in wasn't until 4pm. Service was informative and helpful. I also hung out in the presidential suite to get ready which was beautiful! Two bedrooms a large living room and dining room with a small kitchen and two/three bathrooms. The one downside was that there were hundreds of ten year old boys running around the hotel all day/night unsupervised by their parents; there was a baseball tournament in the area. They have a large lobby with a large business area and multiple seating areas. The bar area is large with a private party room off to the side. Bar food is average. The elevator took forever but that might have been because the hotel was full to capacity. My king sized room was large, enough room for 2-3 people (not sure if the couch pulled out). Everything was very clean! Overall, I'd recommend staying here since it's in a great location. Just pray it's not too busy! read more

OMG where do I start? Have stayed here before for work related events and each time it gets worse. At this point the fact that Marriott has its name on this place is horrifying! First of all, the lobby smelled like sewage. Without exaggeration, it actually smelled like there was a sewage back up somewhere for the entirety of our 5 night stay. The carpets are disgusting--old and dirty. I saw wrappers and clothing tags on the floor of our corridor for days. Many of the elevator buttons don't light up and most of the numbered buttons are crooked. The rooms look the same as they did in 1990, have not been updated, with the wallpaper peeling off the walls and stains in the toilet. The breakfast "service" was absent. Most of the time, an employee sitting at a round hightop would just yell over asking for my room number. They did not refresh or replenish the items when needed--the bread drawers were empty and we had to ask for eggs to be refilled. This review would have only been one star were it not for the excellent service provided by Aura in the concierge lounge, who is a true delight. She does a wonderful job making guests feel welcome as well as taking excellent care of her area. She is a gem! read more

I have never stayed here but have been here many times, for dinner, for lunch, for drinks. I am not wild about it. It is tough to find and comes up suddenly. The staff have never been all that friendly and the food at the place I've been to here, was not great. Sorry if I sound whiny but I think it needs to be brightened up (lob by area) and just needs a more warm and inviting area. I cannot speak at all to the rooms..like I said I never stayed here. I ate at their restaurant and another eatery of theirs that has since closed although that was more a bar. Neither place impressed me much and it was pricey for what you get. I know there are many corporate events here so maybe the focus is on that. One positive is that I have never had an issue at all with parking. But the overall place just never did it for me. Hotel is old, dark, and depressing looking. Beds are uncomfortable. Water constantly leaked from our shower and created a puddle on the floor. Elevator door made a grinding noise all night. Cleaners only clean our room one time during our six day stay. I was able to successfully killed a cockroach in my bathroom. I was charged the incorrect rate, spoke to seven separate people; and finally, one staffer was able to acknowledge and correct the problem. Restaurant is good, serving staff is lovely, but restaurant has limited hours. Hotel is in a convenient location. Will not return. read more

5 stars, fancy that! ok, truth time, i used my points for the wife and #2&#3 to stay over for a dance thing the next morning, so why not flex some status (wife loves to see the 'yes mr k' of course mr k' the staff will use for a loyalty member nice room, they loved the extra size inside and the appointments inside. good pool, way bigger than the springhill or whatever other on brand was local, however, sometimes you still get some foul mouth teenagers hanging around, still not the end of the world, but just be aware. and sort of pricey breakfast, since the c lounge is not open on the weekends, they gave us 2 free breakfast, which is very nice, however, there was 3 of them. ive stayed at full service M properties where they would up the # of people depending on the number of people staying, so i might knock them for that, but i understand and its tuff times, etc. no biggie in the big picture. i might not be able to stay anytime soon (i have to be out of state, long story) but if needed, i would be back. What started out as a normal, quiet stay at a hotel... turned into an absolute NIGHTMARE the moment some youth sports teams came into town. I called down to the front desk FIVE times to ask them to handle the situation of these teens running up and down the halls. I even pinpointed which room most were coming out of, and the hotel did NOTHING. They told me because the teams flew into town, its hard for them to do anything... Well I flew in too! Just because you fly in it doesn't give you the privilege of being obnoxious. The manager was nowhere to be found when I asked. On top of all of that, I was cheated out of my hotel points and night stays. That has to be the most frustrating part. Now I'm not even getting credit for my shitty nights? Absolutely unacceptable. I contacted Marriott corporate and they assured me the mattress in question has now been replaced. This hotel has seen better days. My room looked like it hadn't been attended to since the last person stayed in it. For example, there were 2 beer bottle caps in the room and a few other random items. I went to the front desk and they said they would send housekeeping to attend to the issues. They offered another room but figured they could easily rectify this situation. I came back a few hours later and noticed that one bottle cap wasn't removed and clothing tag still on the couch. I'm not overreacting because this place is charging me $159 a night! Did I mention that the rug is dirty (tortilla chips, wrapper bits) and that the hand soap wrapper was opened. I'm not sure if the soap was used but seriously no attention to detail here. Also found three live bugs in the room. I have no idea where they were coming from. I will not stay here again even though they gave me a new room. By the way, the new room was super loud and I barely slept due to a convention that was going on at the hotel. It was very noisy! Breakfast was good and the staff very courteous. As Titanium member they gave me a room on the 4th floor. There was no concierge lounge, just a coffee machine, water bottles and soda. The ice machine was broken. Our room was "aged" and the bath had an old bathtub. Paid the Marriott rate but this is not the Marriott I remember. What's happening to Marriott? It's not good. Food service was standard hotel-grade food and service - acceptable. Rooms, halls, elevator haven't been updated recently but they're passable. I didn't know spite was part of the hospitality industry until I encountered the front desk person that works evenings at this hotel. We were offered a room on the first floor which we rejected (as who wants to be in the first floor?), from there she was rude and insulting about it, and even though the hotel is mostly empty gave us only one other choice but smirking and very proud of herself let us know it was the furthest from the elevator. Really, our only two choices???? From there asking for anything, a corkscrew, towels, more coffee packs for the room, etc is as if your asking them for a huge personal favor. Everything seems to be an imposition. Staying six days in this place is like an eternity and would never stay here again, there's plenty of other options in the area that are newer and likely happy to have the business, as this place clearly doesn't want our business. It's a shame we prepaid for the room otherwise we'd have checked out after the first night, and gone somewhere else. So do yourself a favor and from the start just go somewhere else. read more
