I needed to stay in the area for a single night for a meeting and chose this Marriott property, as I'm a Titanium member. I got there around 3PM and checked in swiftly. The lady checking me in was friendly and professional. The room was decent; it appeared to be a mix of old and needing to be refurbished with partly refurbished. An example would be the bathroom had the new style shower that replaced bathtubs, with has the barn style glass door and long floor drain and is in modern textures and colors, but the rest of the bathroom is brown - Thus the entire room is very mix-matched. The bedroom had scarred furniture which was old, but the bed was comfy. Why does this matter? Because when I'm staying in a hotel it needs to be at least as nice, comfy, clean, and appealing as my own house - it should always be better. These places that are dated aren't appealing. The location is decent... I'm pretty sure I've stayed here years ago when I used to go to events at Yale for several years, as I stayed in nearly every Marriott property in the area back then. It's close enough to highways, New Haven, etc. It's just over an hour from BDL too. Will I stay here next time I'm in town? Doubt it. read more

Updated review: Zachary at front desk is so professional and hospitable. Ive observed how he has handled some interesting situations with other hotel guests and he is terrific and calm. Alternatively, the bar needs a MAJOR facelift. It used to have great energy; now its depressing and there is no incentive to hang out and drink more. Instead I am in my hotel room watching everybody loves raymond sober. Rock bottom. I can just as easily stay at my sisters beautiful home with my family ; instead i PAY (or 'waste' my marriott bonboy points) to stay here so I make my family trips a bit of a vacation (and sleep in). Clean? Enough. Good location? Enough? Friendly staff? Absolutely. The Shelton Marriott could certainly use a bit of polish. The rooms, well - they are nice enough. The key is running the AC fan continuously - to dampen the smell of second hand cigarette smoke in the rooms. The best part of the whole place is the shower in the guest rooms. First, the location is hidden when approaching the parking lot entrance from the South (traveling North on Bridgeport Ave). Also the signage to not prominent until it's upon you or you've passed it. Use your GPS for exact location notification. The hotel looks recently renovated, it was clean and had a nice fragrance scent in the lobby. The front desk customer service was great, to include the housekeeping. However, the customer service (lack there of) the food service establishments within the hotel was subpar. Upon checkin we quickly dropped the bags in the room and went to the Bistro. The Bistro hours are 10am-10pm. She closed it down and was walking out at 9:50pm on a Friday night!! The next morning, their little coffee shop never opened on time. Leaving us to resort to the many food establishments up and down the street. We have to change rooms after the first night, because whoever designed the bathroom toilet to be placed two inches from the swinging bathroom door should have their license taken away. Honestly I don't know how that is a safety and fire code violation?? You had to straddle the toilet seat to swing the door all the way and the lift your leg over the toilet to walk out the door. It was like getting off a horse without any stirrups. Try doing that while getting out the shower, you are guarantee to stub your toes!! Hotel Management, please do not rent those rooms! read more

My family and I checked in here for our friends' wedding. I called up early on the day of check-in, spoke with Anthony, and requested an early check-in so that we'd have time to get ready for the wedding. Unfortunately, the traffic from NY to CT was ridiculous and we were extremely late but the person that checked us in, welcomed us with a goody bag and a smile. We got dressed as quickly as we could and had a wonderful night celebrating the newlyweds. The room looked to be clean. There was a red stain on the carpet but it looks as though many families visit this hotel which means lots of kids, and since we also had our terror tot in tow, we can empathize with the evidence left behind from spilled fruit juice. We had an uneventful, quiet night's sleep which was nice, and checkout in the morning was efficient. We met Anthony face to face and brought up some minor issues we had with the room. He graciously further discounted the price of our stay which was amazing! Their customer service is above and beyond. One thing I will say to anyone looking to book a room here, is to make sure to call the hotel's direct number if you have any questions. I mistakenly called their call center (an 800- number) and it took forever to get answers. That was my mistake. Definitely use the 203- number from their email correspondences because you get through quickly. It seems as though many wedding parties utilize this hotel for their guests' needs. The price is very reasonable and there are plenty of places to eat in the area. The hotel also has a heated pool and fitness center. I wish we stayed longer to try out all of the amenities. The staff here is very competent and extremely helpful, whether you have a concern or even need extra towels. I would not mind staying here again in the future. read more

This was one of the worst hotel stays I've ever experienced. The room had bed bugs, which is absolutely inexcusable. To make matters worse, room service demanded cash payment directly, which felt sketchy and unprofessional. The only positive was the friendly man at the desk that checked me in to our room. Everything was downhill from there. Even the counter at check-in was wet and sticky. To sum it up, this Courtyard is dirty and dated. It looks like they are trying to do some repairs in some places, but overall it just looks awful. Only some of the lights for the elevator work, so you're really not sure where it is while you're waiting. And, it was really slow. The floor of the elevator was so dirty. Things spilled and never cleaned up during our stay. I guess our room had been cleaned, but the bathroom floor was scary. Dust and grim behind the door. The bathtub drain was really slow and backed up during your shower. The window looking out over the parking lot was cracked. It just might shatter you tried to open it. The cover to the heater/AC unit was hanging off the wall. I would really recommend you try another hotel if you're in the area. read more

Hilton Garden Inn, Shelton CT My stay was for one night. Room selection, check-in, virtual room key, and check-out was a breeze with the app. Front desk staff were attentive, courteous, and friendly when I passed by. I had to ask housekeeping for additional face towels since there was only one in the room. The room temp when I arrived was 60 degrees, and it took me several hours to determine that the wall thermostat was inoperative, and the actual air temp control was on the wall unit itself. It would have been nice to be advised not to use the wall thermostat, and avoid being extremely cold for an extended time. I would have rated 10 otherwise. All else was fine. read more

I stayed here one night while visiting a friend in the area so this review is certainly far from comprehensive. The outside of the hotel was unimpressive, however upon walking into the lobby it looked nicely renovated and new. There is a bar/restaurant area were also clearly newer looking but they were closed to due to covid and I wasn't able to check them out. Check-in was fast and I was on the evaluator up to my room in minutes. Upon reaching my floor the smell of marijuana smoke filled the hallway. I didn't find this particularly unpleasant but when your paying for a clean room you don't expect the whole floor to smell of smoke. The smell in my room wasn't as bad but still noticeable. The room aside from some stains on the couch looked clean. After dropping my stuff off I left the hotel to visit with my friend. I returned later that night and found the smell of marijuana to be much diminished. I noticed the room next to mine had its door propped all the way open, its windows open, and appeared to be empty. I don't know if the guests did this or the cleaning person did this air out the smoke smell. The night was uneventful. I didn't notice any loud road noises or noise coming from other parts of the hotel. I think once I was woken up by a loud door slamming but aside from that it was pretty quiet. I'm not sure I'd stay here again just because there are a bunch of other hotels in this area that could be nicer and worth checking out. read more

The hotel looked attractive, but the cleaning service was nonexistent. They said that they were short staffed and you had to go to the front desk to ask for your room to be cleaned. They did not always clean even when you requested. My husband emptied our trash cans and went to maid to request fresh towels. The beds were not very comfortable. The hotel did not provide continental breakfast. There was no water pressure on our last day; therefore we could not take showers. This hotel was not worth the money that we spent. I would never want to stay at Courtyard Shelton Hotel again. read more

We stopped here twice this past week before and after heading to upstate NY. I am handicapped and needed 2 queen beds since my three kids were traveling with me. This Marriot could use some work but it's clean and in a good location. The room we got the first time had a normal height toilet but at most Marriot, the accessible rooms are the king rooms only and they only have a few. On our second stay the two queen room had an outdated bathroom with a short toilet which does not work for me as an amputee. The front desk rep Zach was amazing. He found a splint ion and upgraded me to a king room with an adjoining two queen room so that I'd have an accessible bathroom. He is a gem and it makes my night! We'd stay here again on my next trip to CT. read more

This is a nice hotel with great accommodations. It is also in a decent location. However, beware that the WiFi is terrible and the premium channel offered in the rooms is thru HBO GO. Be prepared for a whole lot of buffering if you're trying to watch movies or shows on there. Also note that breakfast in the lobby will run you around $10-$15 per person. read more

If I could give a 0 I would. The over night manager Eliu was completely rude and aggressive. I have stood at many courtyard Marriott and never had an issue. I would stay very far away from this hotel. Other staff was amazing but a hotel like this should be held to a standard of class. Unfortunately Eliu doesn't hold up to the standard of a Courtyard. It's very disheartening that they have someone in the position to be the face of a business and it's him. This hotel is ridiculous. How can they be a Marriott when they don't even have standard pillows on a king bed? It throws everything off on a trip when we have to wait for someone to get around to sending up pillows because they are understaffed. I give 5 stars all the time, but for what I expect from a Marriott at over $100 a night regular pillows are a reasonable expectation. read more

I was disappointed in my stay at this Marriott. I expected better for the price and the Marriott name. The room itself was spacious and clean, however, the view from the back side looks out over a trailer park. The walls are paper thin and I could hear every conversation in the hallway. The heating unit was so loud, it woke me up every time it kicked on in the night. Housekeeping did not provide any hand towels on the 2nd day of my stay, even though I left some on the counter to be used again. And, finally, the Wireless Internet did not work, and in any case was an un-secure connection. No wired connection options were provided. read more

I had a wedding to go to nearby. I had then decided to stay in a hotel. I called expedia so that they can assist me in finding me and my family a room for 2 nights. Of course, that didn't go well. I made several calls to expedia on helping me find a room throughout the morning. Finally, they (expedia) found something for me, so I thought...as soon as I was ready to pay with my credit card, the expedia representative tells me, "sorry, but the room is no longer available." This is what I got from expedia all morning long. So I then decided to get to work, I called every hotel within a 5 mile radius and of course they were all booked. But, FORTUNATELY I called this place and was able to get a room that included 2 queen size beds, which was nice for the 4 of us. I called in about 12ish, and I was ready to check in at 3pm. This is a good place to stay. Staff was great, as well as the french toast and they even sell Starbuck's coffee. They have convenient parking front and back. The housekeeper had our beds done and replenished new bath towels while we were gone from the room. Free WIFI and some cable channels. The reason for the 4 star is that you can hear everything in the hallway. There were people talking and I could hear it, this was Sunday morning. I wanted to get up and say something but I was just too tired to do so because I had about 4-5 hours of sleep when I realized that there were people talking. I would definitely come back. read more

This is a no smoking hotel but someone was smoking a ton. The hallway smelled like smoke, and it even got into my room. Called the front desk and they said they weren't able to do anything about it and couldn't figure out who it was. They also couldn't move me to another floor because it was booked full. This inability to address the problem did not meet my expectations. Also in the early morning a fire alarm went off and even after it was declared safe to reenter, it took them quite some time to turn off the alarm. Also the wifi was quite slow. Aside from all that, the hotel itself is rather nice, was priced at good value, and had a refreshing smell in the lobby. read more

FREQUENTLY here and this property is the main reason I look for Marriott Courtyards when I travel! The front desk staff are great and always welcoming.... Andrew and Javier at the bar need to be paid more as the greet every guest warmly and with a genuine warm greeting! I cannot comment on the food since I usually venture out to one of the many great places near by.. ask Andrew or Javier for a place to dine and they will not let you down. The lobby is nice - and the only thing that is nice about the entire hotel because the actual room is disgusting! The hotel has major drainage issues. I stayed on the 2nd floor, the shower had major clogging issues and also the sink was disgustingly clogged. It was no joke that the place made me just completely grossed out. I think the cleaning crew also does not clean the sheets very well because there is odor from whoever else used them before. I have been extremely disappointed with courtyard marriott, and would have certainly expected higher quality. Please avoid this Courtyard if you can. The staff is also not as friendly as other hotels, just feel like they don't care. Like I said, only place that is even OK is probably the pool area and also the lobby itself. The location is also pretty bleh~ its on a small little hill and makes it difficult to walk to local shopping places. Hate it- especially the drainage issue. I had so much luggage that I was just so tired to change another room or else I would have certainly asked. Anyhow, bad management. Just gross experience. read more

I took my girlfriend who is a single mother of 3 for a 1 night stay on Mother's Day weekend. Needless to say, I will never stay there again. We were in the pool, enjoying each other's company as couples who are in love do (kissing and hugging) and here comes one of the front desk people saying "sir, sir you can't be doing that, you are disturbing the other guests. Since when did kissing and hugging become so bad. They were staring and gawking at us the whole time whether it was the pool, the lobby or whereever. Just a word of advise, take your special someone to any place but this one. They'll absolutely ruin your romantic getaway. read more

This Courtyard is one of my favorite Courtyards. It still has a newly built, clean feel to it. Rooms are your standard Courtyard rooms. I really like the glass showers with enough shelf space to hold all my girly shower items :) The bar in this hotel is well stocked with new liquors and local beers on tap. I really like if I'm unfamiliar with a new brew I can sample before purchasing a large glass and find out I don't like it. Bartender staff has always been one of the friendliest staff for hotel bars. It's really one of the draws for a stay at this hotel. The homemade chips are great (try with side of ranch). Having a Starbucks inside is great however I would like to see an expanded breakfast menu and some of my Starbucks favorites. Staff has always been friendly and made me feel like a valued guest. read more

Great place to stay! I've stayed here several times. The cleanliness is top notch, Internet has good connectivity. They have a nice pool and top of the line treadmills. The food and cooking staff are great. All the employees at the front desk are super nice and helpful. We stayed in a regular room with a king sized bed. The room was clean an fairly spacious. The bathroom neat with the usual toiletries. The offered complimentary toiletries if needed. They also had free Internet. The bed was comfortable and the tv had many channels. In room coffee was good and we appreciated having a microwave and mini fridge.
