As many craft beer aficionados are aware, Trumer will unfortunately be closing at the end of May 2026. While their iconic pilsner will live on through Firestone Walker, the Berkeley location and brewery are about to become a piece of local history. Setting aside the state of the industry, I want to pay tribute to a brewery that always paved its own way. They championed lagers long before they were considered "fashionable" by the craft mainstream. Although this was my first--and likely last--visit to the taproom, I'll truly miss having them as an option in Berkeley. I much appreciate the staff for staying in such good spirits and handling this difficult transition so stoically. I've attended many beer fests here (particularly CCBAs) long before the taproom even existed, and it feels like the end of an era. They still have plenty of beer, so if you're reading this in time, head over to support the crew. Grab some merch as a souvenir of what was a brave and historic project. My friends and I stopped by Trumer Brewery on a Saturday afternoon and the brewery was fairly empty. Prior to my visit, I've actually never had a non-Pilsner beer from Trumer. I was surprised to see so many different kinds of beers on their brewery menu; there's honestly a beer for everyone here. Although we didn't grab any food, we got a variety of different beers during our visit. My favorite beer that I ordered was a 8% high ABV coffee stout. Many coffee stouts tend to lean on the sweet side and have too subtle of a coffee flavor. However, I felt like the one from Trumer was well-balanced, and the coffee flavor was strong and distinct. I would happily order this beer again. The outdoor patio is great for large groups and anyone visiting with their dogs. Meanwhile, the inside is bright -- with multiple large TVs around the room broadcasting sport games, with plenty of seating and clean bathrooms. The staff we interacted with were super friendly and offered to give us samples of any beers we wanted to try out before ordering. As the afternoon got chilly, a staff member even stopped by where we were sitting and helped us get the fire pit running. If you're looking for a chill brewery to hang out at with refreshing, quality beers, Trumer Brewery is a great spot for that. I'll have to stop by again to try out some of their food. read more

I'm not usually one who raves about breweries, but I'd definitely go back to Trumer for multiple, repeat visits. It's oddly super-clean for a Berkeley brewery (maybe I'm still being haunted by the ghosts of my college days where breweries and tap houses were only ever sticky-floor affairs). That being said, it's not fussy and the perfect spot for a happy hour/outing with friends. The bartender was super friendly -- very generous with their time in answering my questions/giving me recommendations about what they would recommend. They were also super down-to-earth and overall a great time. The happy hour menu is well worth and the food is hearty and complements the beer well. I enjoyed both the beers I got (both pilsners -- which is what they're known for) and am excited to come back in the future to try more! read more

The first brewery I've been to that has a more quiet ambiance. There's tables to seat parties, community tables, bar seating, and a spacious patio. Service is quick and the whole staff is friendly. Since my last visit to the city, an old and classic brand has made a leap forward with the Trumer Brewery taproom in Berkeley. I've had their namesake beer, but was pleasantly surprised they have a dedicated taproom which ended up being a highlight of my entire trip. My close friends brought me here as they knew I'd appreciate it. On site they make all of their beers. They also have a sister brewery in Austria. The indoor space is beautifully new and modern, with an old vibe, as is the facade with cool lighting. The outdoor beer garden is big and comfortable, with fresh air and cozy lighting. We ordered some flights and delicious food, the kids loved the place as well. I had the mac & cheese which was needed on our evening out. They were hosting a group gathering that looked like it was having fun, this is definitely a great spot to stop with friends for clean classic beer styles. "One of my all time favorite breweries!" This tap room is co-located with the main brewery. Seating at the bar, you can see these monstrous brewing tanks close by. The friendly general manager Travis, explained they're going to be opening the brewery tours soon. I hope I am first on the list! The day that I visited they were running a $25 flights and bites special. That includes four beer and four food pairings. It was absolutely heavenly. Uh oh, the food might be even better than the beer! I thought the brewery only made one beer, but they have expanded into quite a few other beers. Naturally, I still prefer the original Pilsner. The GM explained that it's modeled after an Austrian beer including the ultra tall, slender glass. Oh no, now I have to go to Austria! There's a large outside seating area, complete with event space. Additionally, there's a large number of high tables as well as low tables inside. You can also purchase various sizes of their classic pilser beer. Don't forget to say hello to the amazing chef, Daniel. He is the creator of these wonderful culinary delights. Trumer Brewery is located in a somewhat isolated (at least at night) area fairly close to Fourth Street in Berkeley- they have ample outdoor and indoor seating, gigantic tanks with their Trumer Pils beers, and a selection of other beers and food and snacks available for order at the bar. When I went with my brother and husband, we ordered chips and dip- the chips were just your standard run of the mill chips but that dip was very tasty! We paired these with some beers on tap. I had the Oktoberfest, which I found very tasty and would not mind if they had that year round (lol)! They also have wines and non-alcoholic beverages available if beer isn't your thing. Service was prompt and nice, we got a beeper for our food order but the beers came out quick. They also have TVs showing football and sports games at the taproom. read more

I recently heard about the Trumer Brewery opening up a brewery and tap room in Berkeley so I couldn't resist stopping by (several times) to enjoy a few of their incredible lagers. I started with the Trumer Pils and it was the cleanest, smoothest and most clear Pilsner that I've tasted in a long time. The layout of the brewery and taproom is well thought out and accommodates medium-sized groups as well as it does solo flyers. The placement of beautiful brewing equipment right behind the taps is well thought out and certainly adds dimensions to Trumers aesthetic. The outside is well laid out and I was quickly surprised to see very large fermentation tanks looming in the background. "Born in Austria, Brewed In Berkeley", I love a light and crisp Pilsner, and grabbing a Trumer feels just right. We've been to Trumer for a large event they had earlier in the year and also just recently with a group of friends. First time ordering snacks, we went with the pierogi's and the warm squabisch & beer cheese. While I love brewery snacks, maybe this was an off service day, but they didn't hit home the way we were hoping. A bit disappointed by the beer cheese and comfort I was hoping with the pierogi's. The menu does have some other items of interest like pigs in a blanket, deviled eggs, a vegan bowl, and bratwurst sandwich on a pretzel bun that sound like yummy choices...next time! A great space to tuck into to watch a sports game or with good weather hang outside, awesome merch, fun staff, and conveniently located with ample parking. I attended one of their beer festivals. It was great! They have a nice outdoor patio section and a huge seperate beer garden area. I went inside briefly just to use the restroom so I can't tell you much about the inside. They had several different dj's​​, a food section, and a beer booth that offered several different flavors of their beers. I am a die hard Mexican beer drinker, so this was my first time trying anything different, especially a Pils beer. I'd never heard of it until that day. No regrets! The flavor was smooth and tasty. When we moved back to the bay I was a big Stella Artois fan. Trumer is not only local but a lot cheeper and perhaps more of a cleaner crisper finish on the palette. So I switched. I'm a wussy boy around beer. Y'all can have those fancy pants weirdo custom ales. IPA in my book stands for insanely, pungent and acrid. And to steal the great Anthony Bourdains' take on beer or wine, "if it takes the server more time to explain the drink than it takes to drink it, then it must be one of those weirdo concoctions that history has proven aren't worth the $$ nor the calories." Wise words.. RIP AB! Ask me why do I like Trumer? Got you stein ready? On your mark... get set...Go! start chugging. My answer "Because it tastes good! " Oh still drinking? I rest my case! Now they do have flights of various concoctions, that you can try. Yesterday being my first time in the tap room and I saw heaven forbid... choices of beer... made me cringe. This complicated with a variety of yummy looking food items, big screens all tuned to the niners game, an ample indoor and outdoor seating areas to hang with friends or make new ones, a sign with a list of how to order all made me hyperventilate! Choices? Damn it! I just want some Trumer pils to go. Fortunately one of the beer tenders must have seen the anxiety on my face said "Hey bud what can I get for you?" I put the two placards down, one with food the other with beer and simply asked "can I get some pils to go?" "Sure! cans or bottles, six pack or case?" I sighed in relief! "Bottles and a six pack please."Content there would be no other questions In less than 10 minutes I was in and out. Unfortunately the Lions scored in the 10 minutes I was there... But I totally get the added curriculum of food and beer. You could grab a cat by its tail and swing it 360° and hit a plethora of microbrews: Gilman, fieldwork, are just a couple. So the competition is steep. Especially for the hipster crowds who claim they all like the variety of IPAs, light n dark lagers, ales, blah blah blah; and can quote you hints of this and notes of that. Yet whenever I go into these places, not one, not a few, but everyone I've seen drink these weirdo concoctions emotes the same way. Their faces contort as if they just consumed battery acid followed by that ice cream head ache reaction, then once it's cleared there gullet, they look at the glass like a sommelier, looking for the "legs" in a glass of red wine... but in this case, the very telling expression of " wow that shitza was nasty but I gotta maintain my cool as I contemplate a smart knowledgeable quip, or find the strength to down the rest of this! I wish them much luck and success and hope while they expand to meet a variety of choices, are successful with the tap room. But please stay Trumer- to you. For those who want to know what 99% of folks reactions or faces look like who've imbibed in a Trumer Pils; here we go. I get home pop open a bottle and take a healthy swig. My face, like 99% of folks I've seen drink their beer... A content, refreshed, satisfied look wafts over my face, I too look at the bottle... half of its amber contents happily heading down my throat, Audible to my wife upstairs "Ahhhhhhhh!" So where oh where do I start?? This is coming from a place of being in the industry for over 20 years. The food being mediocre at best is the least of your worries. I wonder if they know that you aren't supposed to put the glasses they serve drinks in on a pallet on the fucking floor? I truly didn't feel very comfortable or welcome to be honest. The atmosphere felt fake and surreal almost. I don't believe the items are charged properly. I'm fairly certain that the staff isn't trained properly, and it starts with the owners. Seems like the owners are catering to a certain demographic if ya know what I mean. 2 weeks old and the place is busy in a good way. from the minute we walked through the front door we were greeted with big smiles, and directed to a table. After a couple minutes, we decided to go to the bar where we could watch the beer being poured the food being served and listen to the stories about the beer. I must say that everyone that we ran into from the front door to where we sat down and ended greeted us with a smile and pleasant dialogue. I ordered a beer and the charcuterie platter for something to eat and shared everything with my wife. the food was delicious and the beer was perfect. They have about eight types of beer that you can try from Pilsner to Bok bears which is light to dark. They offer a really nice elegant, looking menu of finger foods and snacks, as opposed to whole dinners or sandwiches. Very popular outside area for having your beers which would be wonderful on an evening. The weather was nice funny thing about it was this evening. It was fairly cool and that outside area had lots of people in it because it's so cold. Sit there. Just enjoy the sunset. I'm glad I had this experience and it's about time that I finally got down there even though they've only been out for a couple weeks I'm glad I remembered to go in and check it out I highly recommend it. read more

We ordered the local pretzel. it came nice and warm and the cream cheese dip was too cold to spread. Hot side cheese dip is preferable. I personally wouldn't order the pretzel again but it is nice to have something like that to drink with. Definitely check this place out as I know it will be a VERY popular beer haven for many. I sampled a flight of four beers. You pick 'em among the list of twelve they have. I also had a large glass of weizenbock. I wanted something with a little more body. I like Trumer but the beers are a bit on the lighter side. I ordered chicken wings in a soy based sauce which was okay. . I had a bratwurst that was accompanied with homemade potato chips. The bratwurst was on a pretzel roll. It was fine. The potato chips were great. I ate outside which wasn't noisy as compared to a less quieter inside. I have a pretty hardy appetite but could have eaten more. They had a Happy Hour which the menu didn't appeal to me. You're not going to find big portions of food to eat here but beer aplenty. The beer is great but the service needs a little work. Not too sure if the employees were just having an off day but when we walked in to the brewery we noticed that there were plenty of open tables and table tops that had not been cleaned up. There were over 3 employees kinda chatting away with one another being it wasn't too busy. There were several trays and crumbs all over just sitting there unnoticed which kinda impacted the ambiance. When we finally decided to order we noticed that the female employee seemed a bit out of it and had difficulty filling our beers. Not too sure if she didn't know how or it was just a rough day. They were extra foamy and did not hit the right measurement line. We opted not to say anything being it seemed she was not doing too great and she did that to all the drinks she poured after us. With our order we also opted for a giant pretzel, which left us kinda disappointed. The beer cheese was cold and was not what we were expecting more of a pimento cheese than cheese sauce. For the price we hoped for a more flavorful cheese and better pretzel. I would say come for the beer but just know that the bites can be a miss. It wasn't until we finished our drinks and food that they finally cleaned up some of the tables . Overall there plenty of space both indoors and outdoors for any size group. read more

We went on a Sunday afternoon with the a toddler and were happy to see all the seating! This was our first time here and we loved the atmosphere and the people who worked there were very friendly and knowledgeable about the beer. We ordered two beers, the Altbier and the Nord-am Lager and we loved both of them. My husband got the bratwurst sandwich and I got the giant pretzel to share with my daughter. The pretzel was a little tough but overall, pretty good. I assumed the bratwurst was good because it was gone far faster than my pretzel! We will be back! Trumer is back! The hours on Yelp are outdated as of late September/early October 2023. I walked by on Fourth Street on a Saturday and plenty of people were inside (and outside on the patio). Ordering is incredibly easy, and there's tons of seating. There are also some heated lamps on the patio if you're feeling chilly. We ordered the Trumer Pils, Keller Pils, and Deviled Eggs. Everything was great, as expected. I also liked the touch of bacon on the eggs. Employees came around to ask if we had questions and whether we wanted to order via QR code or in person. So I went to the Oktoberfest festival they had. I was really hoping it was going to be great. We showed up a couple hours after they opened and the band still wasn't playing. We also came in and asked where to sign up for the Stein holding contest. We asked a half dozen people and nobody knew when or what we were talking about. So we just decided to go and get some food before it ran out. The food wasn't that great for the price. One piece of burnt chicken with mustard potato salad and cabbage. The brat was okay on the pretzel bun but I definitely wouldn't have spent money on the chicken. Then me and my guy were trying to find somewhere to sit. We asked a few tables that had room if they could let us squeeze into eat. Everyone was so rude saying that they were saving the seats for people. We just wanted to eat there was nowhere to lean or eat. After that we were still pretty hungry. We had bought about 10 beer tickets two meals and two large steins. Everything ran us about $140. We ended up leaving after 20 minutes.
