My Mom passed away here years ago . Now I find my dad here for rehab and there are soooo many…read morethings wrong with the place, I could write a laundry list. My elderly Dad broke his hip. He was at Edwards Hospital for 7 days and each of those days after surgery he was gotten up in the chair. It took some effort, but they did it. He's on his 4th day here and still unable to get him in the chair. Rehab won't try and he'll need a lift to get him up. He needs full care at this point. The other day I arrived at 11 am. His cold breakfast was uneaten on his tray table, no blankets on him and he was on a bedpan for well over an hour. They said they couldn't wake him up. Well I showed them how to wake him up and with my help he ate everything plus 2 ensure shakes ( which I brought) , orange juice and a large glass of water. His room was and still is filthy. Can't find anyone to clean it. His television is all staticky and almost unwatchable. Trash in the drawers and under furniture from another patient. The place just smells! I can't in good conscience recommend this place to anyone and as soon as I am able, I'll get my Dad out of here. He deserves better. I am a health professional and have lots of experience with hospitals, nursing homes and rehab centers.

Unresolved thefts from our home, medications missing, unauthorized visitors and only disinterest and lack of resolution from LCI. Our liaison is immature and generally non responsive. So, when a lawyer recommended them to help us take care of a friend as we live out of town, we looked at the fees. Our friend could afford them, so my husband signed the contract as her POA. Then the reviewer said they will sue you if you "don't have money to pay them back." Why did she sign up with them? It's not like the fees are hidden. Did she not make an agreement to pay them back? I found this confusing with misplaced blame. That being said, LifeCare has been a godsend for us. Our friend is visited every week and the care manager is fantastic in checking up with caregivers and the assisted living personnel. He attends to whatever we need of him to help us out. Their nurse came and did an outstanding overall health review with suggestions to make our friend's daily living a better experience (about a 15 page summary). As a result, we are moving our friend to what we believe is a better facility for her needs, AND it is almost $1600 cheaper per month. Now we can re-direct the savings towards more one-on-one part-time care. We, too, experienced sticker shock all around with the state of elderly care in this country, and I'm sure many people could not afford this level of oversight for a loved one. However, our friend can, and we are grateful for the exemplary service LifeCare provides. My recommendation to anyone who has a family member in a facility is to at least contract for the bare minimum so there is an experienced, expert set of eyes to alert you to any issues.

I don't know where my original review went, but we are extremely unhappy with them, and let me tell…read moreyou why: 1) They are late. 5-10 minutes is understandable, but when they are anywhere between 25-45 (yes, 45!!) minutes late, it's unacceptable. And multiple times--at least 4 times, causing us to be late to work because my grandma cannot answer the door by herself so we could not leave when we needed to. Additionally, when their caregivers are late, we did not even get courtesy calls. We had to call them to be like, ???, and then we'd hear "oh, they went to the wrong address" or "oh, their car didn't start" but this was never communicated to us until WE called. This tardiness is also not specific to one girl; there is only one caretaker who was consistently on time but we have a HUGE issue with her work ethic, which leads us to... 2) Laziness! The company puts in its bio that their caregivers will do light housework for their patients. My 92-year-old grandmother (93 in two weeks, go her!) asked this caretaker to put away the clean dishes. She responded that's not her job, unless she herself ate something. That in and of itself is weird, but then the kicker was that my grandma did not want to wait to have them put away, so she got up and started doing them. The lady STILL DID NOT HELP even after her patient got up and 'walked' (she needs a walker to take a few steps, and a wheelchair for any longer trips) herself to the dishwasher and started putting them away. It was only after my grandmother had put away about half before she became too tired that this lady stepped in. Seriously?? Our coverage needs are about 3-4 hours a day, and if she cannot be bothered to do anything during that time, what's the point of her? 3) Fudging hours. This is a biggie. In the last three months alone, we've had to have four invoices adjusted because caretakers were calling in from their mobile phones before they arrived at the house. As I mentioned earlier, we stay at the house until the caretaker gets there, and we have records of when they actually show up & leave. They keep putting in hours that they were there before the arranged time, even if they were on time or even late! Luckily Care & Comfort itself was amenable to modifying the bills to show accurate times. So needless to say, we are completely done with this service. I will say their administrators and schedulers are fine, but that can't make up for the bad care. If you want to use them, that's your prerogative, but we highly suggest you look elsewhere if you actually want caregivers who are punctual, honest, and actually help their clients.

But two hospital stays later, he was a different man. He could no longer walk. While still sharp-minded, he needed assistance with nearly everything physical: dressing, going on the potty, cleaning himself. And now, I also found myself on diaper duty. Because I was blessed to be working at home, I could do some of this care myself. But I still needed to work, and I needed time to myself occasionally, and I needed time to rest. And then... my husband became ill with lymphoma. I knew that I needed much more help. I could NOT do it all by myself anymore. Enter Care & Comfort at Home. They helped me and my father in several ways. One of the biggest things they did for me was to assist me in setting up care through the VA (Dad is a WW II vet) so that part of the care they provided would be PAID FOR by the VA. That made me able to afford much more assistance, which allowed me to be able to care for my ill husband, and give me a break as well. The care they provide is excellent, and it starts at the top. Owner David has a heart of gold. He and I talked at length about his motivations for running such a business, and I could tell from that conversation that he's doing it purely out of the love of being able to give and provide to others who are in need. Pretty awesome. His manager, Carissa, is just as devoted and dedicated to the care of seniors as David. Always available, always working hard to make sure our needs were met, and not just met, but met "accordingly." Dad's care was specific and he could be particular at times too, and Carissa always made sure that the caregiver assigned to my father was RIGHT for my dad and for his needs. In my Dad's old age, he was not an easy man to care for. He could be bossy, rude, and belligerent. But his individual caregivers were very patient with him and showed so much love for him, even when he didn't always treat them with the same respect. I so appreciated their patience! They made his meals exactly as he wanted them, cared for his every need, talked to him and kept him company, and would back off when he needed his space. I HIGHLY recommend Care & Comfort at Home for anyone seeking home care for a loved one. I loved having Dad at home as long as possible... Care & Comfort made me feel confident and good about doing just that.

The administrative staff was professional, responsive, and compassionate, making a difficult time much easier to navigate. The nursing team treated my father with dignity, kindness, and genuine concern, while the PT/OT staff were knowledgeable, patient, and truly invested in his progress. The social worker was invaluable--guiding our family through care planning and next steps with clarity and empathy. The facility was exceptionally clean, well maintained, and well organized, and communication with our family was excellent throughout. The staff are always very friendly and are always happy to see my dad. My dad is very lively. I have seen the wonderful staff, sing dance and lately take him on outings. Latrice is in charge of resident outings. She has been gracious enough to allow my dad to participate in baseball outings and now takes him bowling. My dad was a great bowler. He may not remember that evening that he bowled in the morning, but in that moment, the joy was there. I am so grateful for these kind-hearted souls that have made this their life passion. We recently had to find a skilled nursing facility for my 65 year old dad who was suffering from…read morecirrhosis of the liver and a multitude of other issues. The search was terrifying...every single place had at least one horrible review. A family member who works at a law firm with lawyers who deal with nursing homes highly recommend this place. I can see why! Within 12 hours of being there my dad had a meeting with an occupational therapist and a few hours after that he had a session with a physical therapist named Daniel. He had my dad up, walking 10 to 15 ft with a walker...something he hadn't done in almost 2 weeks. We were very impressed. They were focused on getting him better. As with any situation, I would recommend asking as many questions as possible, double checking with them, and keeping up with ur loved one's progress, but after the first night I was confident that my dad was in the right place for his recovery. Unfortunately, my dad was only there for 1.5 days before his kidneys got so bad that he had to return to the hospital....all due to problems that we knew could end his life soon. He passed away a few days later. All in all, ManorCare West was highly recommended to us, and we would recommend it to anyone else in our situation.

My care there was adequate but with confusion about diet and medication often from the nursing staff. My doctor verified multiple times that I was to have a diet increase as I had lost roughly 100lbs and was denied adequate food. I was denied physical therapy of any kind and told that my insurance did not approve it. I was left there to die.....but I did not. On March 6th I was notified that there would be an additional patient sharing my room. This patient was Derk Ball and was brought in with his sister. The staff installed a bed but I do not recall a phone nor call button and the room was not ready when Mr. Ball arrived. I overhead and was told that he was brought in from Palos Hospital having undergone a biopsy of his lower back and suffering from Pneumonia. There was a minimal amount of care done to ensure that he was made comfortable or had adequate oxygen. He was not receiving fluids or nutrition and after his sister left was basically ignored by all staff other than to check vitals. Several times I heard the nurses comment that he was removing his oxygen tube from his nose and had it in his mouth. Food was brought to him, it went untouched and his tray was removed. On Friday night I commented to the nurse that he had not had food all day and nothing to drink and offered her to give him my milk. To my knowledge he had not had any nourishment all day. On Saturday morning Mr. Ball was awake partially and had a male visitor and by Saturday afternoon and into the evening he seemed to be asleep. Food was brought but removed shortly thereafter and other than a bed check or to check for vitals, Mr. Ball was ignored throughout the rest of the day and evening. Late into that evening the attending nurse seemed rather unprofessional in making comments to the CNA about subject matter that I found to be offensive. This escalated to the point that when they were changing Mr. Ball she began to make comments about his genitals and very off-colored remarks directly at him. The CNA was laughing histerically which only encouraged her cruel behavior. She then commented that he was sucking on his oxygen tube and that it goes into his nose and not his mouth. Mr. Ball was not vocal and did not seem to be lucid. At this point I was able to get myself out of bed and into a wheelchair and after she left the room I went into the hallway and notified the nurse that he had not had anything to eat nor drink since he was there. Her response was vague and basically that if he doesn't eat they remove his tray. Sunday morning I was awake from most of the night and the nurse checking in that morning was told by me that again he had not had anything to eat. Our breakfast came and I told the nurse to give him my milk which she brought to his tray. Mr. Ball did not seem awake for the rest of the day. After lunch came and went I again told the nurse that he has not had anything to eat. Late into Sunday evening the attending CNA did a bed check and said hi to me and was very pleasant. She went over to check on Mr. Ball and left his side of the room after less than a minute. She said goodnight to me and left. Within about an hour the nurse coming onto her shift was doing her bed check and we exchanged a few words and she proceeded to Mr. Ball's side of the room. After only a few seconds she ran out of the room and I knew something was wrong. The scene of this became very frantic, very quickly with multiple alarms and multiple people entering the room. A cart with life saving equipment was wheeled into the room as staff attempted life-saving procedures. The CNA who had last checked on Mr. Ball prior to shift change was present but admitted several times that she did not know what to do. She said that she did not know how to perform chest compressions. I was in my bed and because of multiple people in the room I was unable to leave. I heard mention that paramedics were on the way and one of the nurses got me out of bed and ushered me down the all to the lunch room area. It was very cold so I stayed in the hallway. By this time some of the patients that were mobile came out of their rooms out of curiosity. The paramedics arrived and assisted in the life-saving measures of Mr. Ball. The head first responder kept asking who was in charge and what was happening. After life-saving measures for Mr. Ball failed this paramedic started to become loud and was yelling that nobody seemed to be in charge and that there were needles left on the window sill and he tried to put them in the sharps box and it was full. He demanded multiple times to know who was in charge and what was going on at this place. He blatantly stated that they were not removing the decedent and to call the medical examiner's office immediately. He left in utter disgust over what he had witnessed.

It is very poorly managed. There provide low quality high in salt content foods. Some of the care…read moregivers are not responsive or do not attend to their residents and therefore the extra burden falls on the responsible staff. Manager of the facility is happy to get you in and then does not respond to emails etc with questions and concerns. I wish my loved one was not there.
