Overall, I liked the studio and found the class times to be convenient for my schedule. The instructors were great about showing modifications, both easier and more challenging, which I found productive to my own progress. Instructors were really great about answering questions after class (e.g., pigeon pose always cuts off my leg circulation for some reason, despite being hyperflexible, and they helped me find an alternative). I really wanted to love this place, but the main reason I did not go back is because most of their classes are hot yoga, which I really don't like. Personally, the heat does nothing for me besides drench my clothes ~completely~ in sweat (required a towel on my fabric car seats!) and, frankly, has no science to prove any benefits anyway. Plus, in addition to being annoying, it is also a hazard. I tried a lot of things to make the experience less slippery on my mat and nothing seemed to work. I just didn't think it was worth the struggle of trying not to slip and fall in basic poses, which I would not have to waste my time thinking about (and ultimately distracting me from the meditative experience) in a normal class. I also took an aerial yoga class, which was fun to try, but I personally found it pretty uncomfortable (cutting off circulation, digging into my legs despite being pretty thin figured). Just wasn't for me. If you don't mind hot yoga, you'll probably love this place. But if you do, you should choose a different studio (which is honestly hard to find in this area, as many places are hot yoga only).

Edmond and Cheryl not only tech yoga and meditation, they also host "Knowledge Cinema" screenings of spiritual teachers on Sundays, and mind-bending movies Friday nights. AND they serve Edmond's incredibly delicious and healthy Ayurvedic (Indian) food over wonderful conversations both nights, pretty much every week. Plus they host Dance Wave (led by eme) on Saturdays at 4pm as well occasional sacred music concerts. All this goodness is by donation and open to all! Note: Their studio is on the 4th floor of the historic Art Mission Theater building. Most people use the stairs; but if you can't walk up 3 flights of stairs, no problem, you use the freight elevator.

The studio itself is extremely clean and bright with lots of windows and sunshine. There is plenty of space for a good sized class. I believe the times I had come the classes were pretty full with 25 or so people. I took a Yin Yoga class on Thursday evening, an alignment class on Friday morning, and an acroyoga workshop that same afternoon. The instructors were extremely knowledgeable and safe. Lynda has such a calming voice and really walks you through each pose. In person classes are great, and I've been doing Zoom classes more often as I am out of town and those have been wonderful also! It's perfect for when you are unable to leave your house or want to tune in while out of state. For some classes, I end up falling asleep and realize that's what I really needed. If you are looking to add a new style of yoga to your practice with some meditation and full body relaxation, I highly recommend Yoga for Every Body! If you are new to yoga and not sure you can handle tricky poses, this is the perfect introduction for you. If you are in pain and seeking relief from that tension, give these classes a try. I showed up to my appointment a half an hour early and filled out the initial paperwork within that…read moretime. After the paperwork was completed and turned in I had to wait 16 minutes after my appointed time. When I met Lisa she was very abrupt with me and acted very bizarre and not very welcoming. I had initially told body works / Lisa that I was in a wheelchair. When she met me and I had stated I was in a wheelchair, she asked me how did I transfer out of the chair normally I told her I use a sit to stand in my home and I had brought my aid with me to help if I needed assistance out of this chair during my appointment. She stated in a very abrupt manner,.. what is a sit to stand., as she stood in front of me intimidatingly. Although her manner was abrupt I followed her into her gym and she proceeded to ask me questions in a very clipped manner, I began to feel uncomfortable. She continued to ask me questions about my condition and I patiently responded, at one point she needed to go get her stand and stool that I assume she normally uses. While she was gone I made myself comfortable by one of her mats in the gym. When she came back she seemed unnerved that I had apparently sat in the spot that she normally inhabits. I quickly stated that I could move but she emphatically stated back to me no that's not necessary as she continued to look unnerved. I simply moved and she quickly took the spot that I had been in. And appeared to be more comfortable at that time,.. but she continued to question me about the sit the stand that I had mentioned. I was at that point becoming very uncomfortable but wanted to have a good experience from my initial therapy with body works. We eventually or I should say she eventually pulled up on her laptop what I said the stand was and proceeded to say, nice you have one of these. She even stated the amount at the time,.. since she was so curious about it I offered to bring it in for my sessions and she said how would you be able to do that and I stated that I had a wheelchair van that would be able to bring it. She proceeded to say wow that's very nice for you. At this time I'm not quite sure where all of this was leading. During part of our conversation she asked me if my legs moved and I stated that they did not and she bizarrely said to me that you really can't move your legs. I can go on but I'm not really sure what her problem was but eventually I asked if they was anyone else that I could work with and she stated yes.. which I intern said that would probably be a good idea. A young lady came out from the back her behavior was appropriate and she seemed to have a better demeanor then Lisa whom had told me that she was the owner. No matter what it seemed I was going to have to be evaluated by Lisa initially by this time I was over it. I wasn't feeling very welcomed and I promptly told Lisa that it probably was not going to be a good fit. I recently had abdominal surgery June 6th of this year and I have been looking forward to going to body works. I was looking forward to strengthening my muscles after the surgery. I don't know if Lisa was off put by me being disabled in a wheelchair and my limbs not working to full capacity., but I know that I wasn't made to feel comfortable and welcomed. I will say the receptionist that greeted us was nice before I met the owner.
