There is a lot to see in moving about the airport from the floor designs of many of the monuments of the City of Pittsburgh if you look closely to the lighting in the ceiling. I had a chance to take it all in, the airport was NOT busy. A family member dropped us off, so we did not experience any parking issues, charges for where to part and/or delays getting to the ticketing area. Once inside the sliding glass doors, we immediately saw our check-in point (AA) and had no wait, but a pleasant experience was had by the attendant behind the counter. We also appreciated the changes to the TSA checkpoint. I was expecting a delay and frustration in getting my things into the bins, not because I was not organized, but because I was traveling with a 19- month old, something I had NEVER had to do for many years. I found myself thankful for the understanding and direction the TSA gave us. Our departure was early afternoon (2:37 p.m. flight) out of PIT and the airport was fairly empty. I have NO complaints just praise for the service and experience we had out of PIT. Coming back we arrived close to 9:00 p.m. via Southwest where many/all of the restaurants were already closed. As we walked through the airport (fairly empty, again we realized the other changes...I had never worried about elevators before, we always used the escalators) this time we had been traveling with a stroller. Baggage claim is also different. Numbers instead of letters and oversized baggage comes on a different carousel. Maybe this was not different from previous days, but for us carrying a child car seat, it was a new experience. I love the changes, it was easy for us to navigate. Yes! This was my first visit to the NEW & IMPROVED airport in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Job well done! However, I learned that Door 7/RideShare is on the ground floor after walking all the way down to Door 6 to find out I was on the wrong floor. I believe that was MY error for not paying attention to the signage. We've never had to use RideShare before, coming from the PIT airport. This, too was a first due to an unexpected change with our family member picking us up upon our return. Once on the correct floor, it was easy to navigate to get to the RideShare stand and getting to our family members home (10 miles from the airport) after our three weeks of travel.

The word that comes to mind is expansive as the lobbies and walkways are wide with cathedral height ceilings in places. There is a lot of eye candy from the floor inlays capturing the city's monuments to the small lights in the ceiling that makes it feel like a twinkling night sky. It is beautiful, clean, and polished looking with many tech additions. The downside is that the convenience that once existed in certain areas are gone. Easy access to long term parking is no more with shuttles as the primary method of transport. Not sure if they are going to replace the people movers, the moveable walkways, but if not that makes the airport even more expensive feeling but not in a good way. I appreciated the changes to the TSA checkpoint as it was much faster but the new x-ray system turns out to be slower as it automates the bins. I found myself waiting five minutes for my items to slowly move through the system with no sense of urgency. These small complaints do not negate the improvements! I miss the Rex fossil, but wow I can't help but be impressed with the changes! It is so nice!

As Stacey mentions, the Regional airports have charm that you won't find in the huge International airports. The runways are a nice length. 3 and 21 are over 5,000 ft and 12 and 30 are a little smaller at 3,500 ft but still plenty enough length to land smaller one-engine airplanes. It has a full ILS (instrument landing system) and MALSR approach lights which help you fly in here at night. It's a great place to fly in and a decent place to eat right at the airport with the Prima Barone restaurant being a decently classy and awesome place. Bonus live music on Friday night's (which I haven't experienced yet). I see myself making many more trips up here. It's a really fun airport to fly into!

Located in Franklin, the Regional Airport mostly serves for private plane owners, but United offers service from Cleveland to Franklin. It is a very tiny airport and I am completely in love with it. This regional airport has all the small town charm that you will never find in an international airport. There is one terminal, one baggage claim, and no waiting. One of the airport employees waited with me until my ride arrived because he was concerned. When was the last time an airport employee showed any concern when a ride didn't arrive on time? Here, it is just how it's done! On my return trip I checked in with a smiling United worker. Sure, there was a kiosk I could have used, but she helped me out. My family was able to sit with me for an hour before TSA did their screening. I had to walk through their only metal detector while talking with the nicest TSA agents ever. They even offered us passengers umbrellas to use as we walked to the plane in the pouring rain! The service was great. The airport is quaint. They have some history of the region on the walls and a restaurant attached. It's not a state of the art facility, but it's not worn down either. In truth it is rather lovely!

But that one is owned by the City of Cleveland and not the county. Anyway, by airport standards this airport is adequate. FBO services are available but the airport caters more toward private / corporate aviation than anything else. Several Cleveland-area companies base their planes here and this airport serves as the headquarters to fractional provider Flight Options. CGF has its challenges. Runway, taxiway, and ramp alike are a bumpy experience avoiding cracks and pot holes. Keeping the same clear of snow during winter is also something to be desired. There is a part-time, private tower. The airport is generally bordered by Highland, Richmond, White, and Bishop Roads. Most business takes place toward the middle of the property on Curtiss Wright Parkway. NOTE: There are no scheduled flights, airlines, or passenger terminals here.

This airport is nice because of location, long runways, solid instrument approaches, super reasonable fuel prices and nice folks working in the Tower. Flying in here from the Northwest, you get some nice views of the city of Pittsburgh. It's a class D airport under a class B shelf, but I've never had much trouble being cleared into the class B even if flying VFR. I'm not sure if there are any commercial services here, but if you're looking to learn how to fly or you just got your license and you're looking for a "$100 hamburger" run, KAGC is a great choice. Voyager has some nice courtesy cars they let you use. Flying into KAGC and then going to Meat & Potatoes for brunch or dinner is bound to be a great day out. Happy safe flying!
