Wow. "What a mess" was my first impression.

Confusing as you know what. The TSA checkpoint at Pittsburgh Airport is an airport on steroids. There are so many lines and so many signs. I arrived at the airport knowing how confused I could be. I stood behind everything to see what's going on first. From behind or under the elevator, I heard a monotone voice to direct travelers to the alternative checkpoint. Not until I went downstairs to get in line, a security guard telling people to go up escalator to the alternate line. Then, I saw the speed difference at each checkpoint. Ok. Standard line is normally slowest. I got TSA PreCheck, as my second time using it. Line went down so fast. I was still preparing to put stuff on the belt. TSA agent used the little coin trays to separate carry-on bags between passengers. What about my keys and wallet? The agent was busy telling me to take everything metal out of my pockets to any of my bags. So weird. Overall, TSA checkpoint seemed to be in orderly fashion. I got my TSA PreCheck to work it should.

Shout out to the ladies and gents at Pgh international for finding my wedding band Monday evening after losing it in security. They were super professional and helpful and I am eternally thankful for them not giving up. Thanks folks! Go Steelers!

Whole process took less than 10 minutes. Everyone was pleasant. Multiple lines open, they have a digital check in as well

What a pleasant surprise! TSA that are quick and competent. Chicago airports can learn something from Pittsburgh's procedures.

The line for screenings at PIT returned back to normal, extended long lines past the airport glass doors.

The higher deck is for drop-offs, the second deck is for pick-ups, and the bottom deck is for something else, maybe Ubers or shuttles...not sure. There is plenty of space in the airport for when it gets crowded, and the whole place is very clean. Families walking by with worried fathers, little girls with monkey backpacks and one shoe untied, middle school kids trying to do their part to help out. The loudspeaker system is very clear, and all announcements are heard, whether they pertain to you or not. Apparently, they have a policy of no check-in until 2 hours before your departure. This gives you about 90 minutes to get through TSA, and find your gate, get something to eat, go to the restroom, etc. It punishes those who come early. I don't see the logic in this. Also, the attendant who told me was less than polite about it. Overall, the airport staff is friendly, and answered any questions I had. The TSA line went quickly, and I got to get a bite to eat with plenty of time to get to my flight.

I finally made my way to PIT to catch an early morning flight to DFW recently. I'm not a fan of the…read morenew parking lot system at all. The shuttle drivers I interacted with both times were friendly. The names of the stops just did not make sense. Do the names Champions, Bridges, Robotics, etc. identify lots A, B, C, D, and the numbered sections? Quite a few passengers are walking all over the lot trying to figure out where they get off the shuttle, and the location of their vehicles. Not good. TSA for early morning flights is still long, and not as smooth as it was before the remodel. The gate areas are still pretty much untouched. And of course, the tram is gone along with the airplane that hung over the TSA area in the old airport, along with T-Rex. I did spot Franco upon my return through PIT which was a highlight. Exiting the shuttle parking lot with pre-booked reservations there is no information stating that the QR code wasn't needed, and that the gate would just open to let you exit. I spoke with the attendant over the intercom who told me to just go. Is the system that advanced a ticket or code isn't needed to leave? Minor things like this were annoying, and don't make the experience better than the old system, IMO.

Here are just a few pluses: - No parking fees! - The cheapest AV gas in the region! - Everyone is so nice and there is an awesome Italian restaurant on-site. As Stacey mentions, the Regional airports have charm that you won't find in the huge International airports. The runways are a nice length. 3 and 21 are over 5,000 ft and 12 and 30 are a little smaller at 3,500 ft but still plenty enough length to land smaller one-engine airplanes. It has a full ILS (instrument landing system) and MALSR approach lights which help you fly in here at night. It's a great place to fly in and a decent place to eat right at the airport with the Prima Barone restaurant being a decently classy and awesome place. Bonus live music on Friday night's (which I haven't experienced yet). I see myself making many more trips up here. It's a really fun airport to fly into!

Located in Franklin, the Regional Airport mostly serves for private plane owners, but United offers service from Cleveland to Franklin. It is a very tiny airport and I am completely in love with it. This regional airport has all the small town charm that you will never find in an international airport. There is one terminal, one baggage claim, and no waiting. One of the airport employees waited with me until my ride arrived because he was concerned. When was the last time an airport employee showed any concern when a ride didn't arrive on time? Here, it is just how it's done! On my return trip I checked in with a smiling United worker. Sure, there was a kiosk I could have used, but she helped me out. My family was able to sit with me for an hour before TSA did their screening. I had to walk through their only metal detector while talking with the nicest TSA agents ever. They even offered us passengers umbrellas to use as we walked to the plane in the pouring rain! The service was great. The airport is quaint. They have some history of the region on the walls and a restaurant attached. It's not a state of the art facility, but it's not worn down either. In truth it is rather lovely!

I mean it's primarily a space for weddings, events, conferences, etc. My sister books an annual Spring Fling here for the kids at the school where she teaches. There are cool offerings like a restaurant/bar, large lobby, laundry, pool/hot tub, gym, and so on. And I've been to a couple weddings here and they were great. Since it's only about ten minutes from the airport, I stayed here on a recent trip home. Truth be told, my flight got canceled and it was one of the places Delta offered a voucher for. The others were for places I'd never consider in a million years. The property has an elegant but extremely dated aesthetic in the furnishings and decor. Not 50 years old dated (it's been around that long) but definitely dated. You can see from my pics why it was considered "fancy" back in the day. The dated decor feels like visiting grandma in her older cookie cutter home. For the most part it's extremely clean though I found a couple things in my room: Grimy fingerprint on the thermostat Used bar of soap in the dish at the bathroom sink Small stain on top of comforter Next: Climbed into bed and the mattress literally sank in the middle. Weird and uncomfortable. How can it even be a Sheraton? That's all I got.
