5 Stars - Korean Fried Chicken, Boba, and a Surprise Lesson About Crystal Pearls This was my second visit, and I was so excited to dig in that I completely forgot to take photos before eating. By the time I remembered, I had already finished most of the chicken and drank over half of my matcha milk tea! On my first visit, I tried the taro milk tea and loved it. This time, I ordered a matcha milk tea with bubbles at 30% sugar, along with a pineapple mojito (non-alcoholic) with crystal pearls. The matcha was smooth, creamy, and not overly sweet. The 30% sugar level was perfect for letting the matcha flavor shine. The pineapple mojito was refreshing, light, and sparkling. It was also my first experience trying crystal pearls. My initial reaction was that I didn't like them because they're smaller and firmer than traditional boba pearls. They almost reminded me of boba that wasn't cooked quite long enough. But the more I drank, the more I appreciated them. In a cold, sparkling drink, they actually work really well. The pearls add a little surprise after each sip and give you something to chew, making the drink last longer and feel more interactive. Now for the star of the show: the Korean fried chicken. As someone who is mostly pescatarian, I've been wanting to try Korean fried chicken for a while, and this was a great introduction. I ordered the 10-piece wings with sauces on the side, choosing Soy Garlic and Secret Spicy. The wings were huge, meaty, and incredibly crispy. The Soy Garlic had that perfect balance of savory and slightly sweet flavors. The Secret Spicy wasn't particularly spicy to me. I'd probably rename it Secret Sweet because that's the flavor profile that stood out most. What really impressed me was how well the chicken reheated. A quick trip through the air fryer made it even crispier than when I first brought it home. That's a rare quality in takeout fried chicken. If you're looking for a place that offers both excellent drinks and seriously satisfying Korean fried chicken, this spot is worth a visit. This is primarily a boutique bubble tea shop, but besides bubble tea, they also have a pretty expansive food menu with dumplings, fried chicken, flavored egg waffles, and more. The drink menu itself has lots of variety with different types of tea, milk tea, fruit tea, and non-caffeinated mojito or milk-based drinks. I got: - Cloud-mist green tea w. milk foam & herbal jelly: Very good tea with a refreshing flavour. The herbal jelly was very herby (this is a good thing) and there was plenty of it in the drink. I got 0% sugar and was happy with that. The milk foam and jelly added just a hint of sweetness, not so much that it made the whole drink taste sweet. The milk foam added texture and creaminess more than sweetness. - Brussels sprouts: I appreciated that I had the ability here to order a big bowl of vegetables, not an option at most bubble tea or KFC places. $8 for fried Brussels sprouts looks steep on paper, but one order is a whole meal-sized bowl. These were delicious and tastefully crispy but a little too salty, especially with such a large portion. I would suggest splitting an order if you're there with a friend. - Taro egg waffle: Very well-made egg waffle with crispy and almost caramelized edges but soft, fluffy bubbles. The taro flavor was unique. They served the waffle with a small cup of honey. I tried dripping the bubbles in the honey but mostly ate it plain because I liked it just fine plain, and the honey masked the subtle taro flavor. I visited during mid-afternoon on a weekday where they were not very busy. The staff were very pleasant. They greeted me when I came in and brought my food to my table. They have two electronic kiosks for ordering, but I ordered with the staff since there were no one waiting at the time. The shop design is very cool, with two levels. Most tables have outlets. I'm a big fan of the Coconut Mango Slush, and to my surprise their Korean Fried Chicken is worth the price in quality and taste. Their boneless Korean Fried Chicken is made with boneless chicken thigh meat, so if you're a dark meat type of person like me - you'll be pleasantly surprised! Crispy on the outside and always made fresh to order, their combo box with the fries is enough for two meals. This is our go-to downtown spot for boba tea. We often will call in or order online to make it a swift pick up since the Mass Avenue area can be busy for parking. I especially love ordering the Jasmine and Rose tees and adding a milk float on top. It's the perfect combination. I tend to order 30% sugar because I often think it's too sweet and skip the Boba to lower the calories. That's my personal go to order. The staff is friendly and down to business as they tend to stay quite busy. The only thing I don't love about this spot is it smells quite fried since they have added certain food options to the menu and it seems like the menu has maybe expanded beyond what it needs to be. My boys love boba tea so we decided to stop in for lunch after running errands all morning. When we entered we were the only people there so we were able to take our time ordering what we wanted from a kiosk. We all got drinks chicken tenders and gyoza. We sat down and waited and I remembered they had soup dumplings so I had to order them. All teas were solid and the food was better than we expected. The Gyoza came with a sauce which was good and the 10 piece chicken tenders were crispy. We chose 3 sauces for the chicken bbq, hot & spicy, and soy garlic. Ordered the brown sugar black tea with milk and bubble. It was still pretty sweet, even at 50% sugar but not overly sweet that I couldn't drink it. I usually like 0% sweet oolong milk tea, but the one I got was kinda bland and didn't have any hint of Sakura oolong :( I got the crystal boba (I usually get boba and 0% sweet since boba is sweet anyways) and it was meh. Next time I want to try their grass jelly, maybe it will give me more of a sweet flavor? This is my new favorite place to come if I want delicious food and drink and a unique atmosphere to do homework or catch up with friends. This location is open late, which is superb since I am a student! The service is usually great, but when they are busy (which happens because they are WONDERFUL) be prepared to be patient, and extend some grace to the owners/employees. I stopped here quickly with a friend to get boba for another friend on her birthday! I got the purple potato milk tea! It was SO GOOD! I got it with 25% sweetness as I'm not into overly sweet beverages. The boba itself was good. Perfectly chewy. We ordered at the kiosks and our number was called at the from counter when our drinks were ready. I really like the little upstairs area. There's a few games to play and plenty of seating and tables. It was a cozy atmosphere. Soon I hope to try the food, but my boba was very good. I'd get it again. Downtown just got its newest Instagram restaurant. I stopped into Tsaocaa because my son loves bubble tea. We soon found out they had so much more to offer. The menu includes soup dumplings, Korean fried chicken, egg, waffles, and macarons, I'll wrapped up in an aesthetically pleasing venue. It's very well lit. They have plants and modern light fixtures, and one of those cotton candy machines from TikTok. There are a few seats downstairs, as well as an upstairs with additional seating. You place your order at the kiosk and wait for your name to be called so far we have tried the traditional milk tea with Boba and the yogurt mango with popping Boba. Both were very good. You can adjust the sweetness to your taste. The Korean fried chicken is delicious although I think it's better if you dine in as opposed to carrying out. The same goes for the soup dumplings. It was good but I didn't think it would be sparking versus still but that's on me. I also got the waffle and it was tasty with the matcha flavor and honey on the side. I felt bad since they only had one person behind the register and maybe a few more in the kitchen. They definitely need more support since they're so busy but they were so kind and they are just doing amazing work! They have a fairly descent size menu along with lots of snacks options. The red bean egg waffle was perfect and came with a rich cup of honey. I went for the passion fruit and lime tea, sweet & tart, with a little bit of texture. Though this place is small there was ample seating plus a cute balcony. Tried the mochi donut (matcha, coffee, chocolate), purple yam milk with purple rice, and all fruits tea. Mochi donuts were extremely chewy and delicious. Purple yam milk wasn't made according to my order with sticky rice and taro ball, but the taro ball was replaced by boba. Went back to ask about it, was given a new drink, no more taro balls apparently. Really wanted them! The purple yam wasn't really flavorful or noticeable, the cream foam on top was good, didn't know it came with this drink. Purple rice was okay, nothing too special. I ordered an iced strawberry cheese foam which hit the spot and the foam tasted salty and creamy how it should be!
