    Maple jerk beef tips
    Erin S.

The 4.9 star review brought us in. No Lies have been told- the food and service at TTS is wonderful and lovely. We are so happy that Yelp delivered on this place. We were graciously welcomed and immediately seated. The mocktails were delicious - especially the pineapple. We ordered conch fritters, oxtail, maple jerk steak tips, jerk chicken tacos and Mac and cheese. Everything was so flavorful- the meats were melt in your mouth tender. Jamaican sides were included in the dinners- including collard greens and fried plantains. There was a wonderful, back burning spice that was so unique and delicious. And the space was decorated with artifacts from Jamaica and the Caribbean. We loved the three seated skiff mounted on the wall. Do not skip TTS- they will be delighted to see you!

I brought a friend to try this special place and he was hesitant because he does not like spicy food and was unsure what "Jamaican cuisine" was going to offer. He is now another huge fan!!!!! He had the Lamb chops and Jerk Maple Steak tips and had rave revues!! We split the Tropical Salad, which is now my favorite salad ever (and big portion)! And tried the Stuffed Peppers (ridiculously delicious). We also did the Peppered Shrimp (yum!!!). Every bite of every dish was a wow!!! And then we had the BREAD PUDDING!!! The most incredible bread pudding we both have ever had. This place is soooo special!! And when you meet TT and her big smile, warm laugh and loving energy...you will want to go back for both the food and the atmosphere. Can't say enough about TT and this restaurant.

We decided to try this place one day for dinner since it changed hands into a 'Jamaican'…read morerestaurant a couple years ago. Formerly The Lantern, still a bar vibe/a bit dark inside. We both got the jerk chicken with greens. While we finished our dinner and it tasted good; I have several specific impressions and suggestions for improvement. First of all, both of our dinners could have arrived much hotter. They were more like "well warmed" in a microwave than truly hot- so I assume that's how they typically do it there. We were hungry enough not to send it back to be 'heated up' more -but they should be aware of how hot their food should be when presented to customers. Second, we love Jamaican food- goat curry/jerk chicken/oxtails, greens, etc. This chicken was seasoned + tasty; but the chicken honestly tasted like BBQ chicken much more than the jerk chicken I've had in any other restaurants. Finally- and in the end this was the worst issue, the gal who was our waitress either had never done a waitress job before, or was so poorly trained at this establishment that she literally had no idea what she should be doing/noticing/taking care of. At various points, this was frustrating (she didn't check on us at all), didn't seem to know if we needed more water/napkin,etc. mainly because she just didn't walk by the table/or stand back keeping a watchful eye on her table. At certain points, I heard her boss talking to her and telling her what to do next- but clearly she didn't even have a basic concept of what she was supposed to be doing. I waited tables a lot thru college and eventually I felt sorry for her lack of training in a job where you clearly represent the business. But, we were the only people in there for dinner, only 1 person drinking in the bar besides us. It was just unacceptable. We won't return-but would love to find good Jamaican food somewhere in the region. PS It was several months ago when we ate there, hopefully staff is consistently better trained now.

A nice addition to the neighborhood that offers something a little different. We ordered the oxtail…read moremeal, which was tasty. My only complaint is the portion size -- there was a lot of rice but very little cabbage and oxtail meat. The space is nicely decorated, and the service was friendly.

Great food, even when a busy festival is keeping the kitchen on its toes!…read more Maya's Kitchen is great, the food is tasty, and the service is delightful. I am saddened to learn that they are closing next year, but that just means that I need to eat there more while she is still open! The Mac & Cheese has a great Caribbean spice, certainly a top contender for M&C and the Chicken Curry is equally tasty. I wish that there was a larger dining room, it's quiet, but I expect that plenty of people come in for take-out, since the meals easily make it home without much loss of flavor. I look forward to visiting more in the future and trying out her entire menu.

Maya's Kitchen is a good spot if you're looking for authentic African food. The food is flavorful,…read moresatisfying, and definitely the highlight of the experience. If you're craving traditional African dishes, this is a solid place to visit. The customer service is decent -- the staff are polite, welcoming, and helpful. You won't experience anything extraordinary, but they are friendly and respectful. The ambiance is simple and more on the casual side. It feels like a low-key, everyday dining spot rather than a place for special occasions or date nights. However, that doesn't take away from the authenticity of the food. Overall, I would recommend Maya's Kitchen for anyone looking for good, authentic African cuisine in a relaxed and casual setting. It's a great choice for takeout or a casual meal when you're in the mood for traditional flavors.
