I LOVE TUBBY'S!! This casual neighborhood staple checks all the boxes every single visit. There are plenty of tables and a few seats at the bar--and once inside you'd never know you were inside of a bowling alley. All of the food I've tried has been better than most "bar food" type places. This visit I got the grilled chicken salad and it was spectacular. The service is always amazing too. Our group of friends meet monthly to check out different places to get together to eat/drink, based on word of mouth from others. TUBBY's was a major fail! From when I arrived first & sat at table a for 6/8, the server asked me when the others were arriving & told me they "flipped tables" there. Feeling uncomfortable, a few of us were going to order food before the others arrived & when we told her we were ready to order, she pointed her finger at three other tables & said she had to take their orders first & then she would take ours. Do you love buffalo chicken pizza? STOP! This place has the best..hands down...first place...buffalo chicken pizza! I have ventured out to try others and they just don't compare. I am not even a pizza fan and I order it almost every time. Their entire menu is amazing. They have a wonderful steak sandwich. Every soup has been delicious. Now, the atmosphere isn't the most inviting, but do remember you are in a bowling alley. I will say the bar stools make up for it. I could sit in one all day. Not sure how long this establishment has been open but it's located inside Plaza Lanes Bowling Alley which has been open since the 1970's. The bowling ally is clean , bright and updated and had 24 lanes , a pro shop and Tubby's has a full bar.The service was fantastic and the ambiance was great.They have a varied menu and Steaks and pizza are some of their specialties. I had the Tubby burger and it was fantastic, I/2 pound seasoned perfectly and cooked just how o wanted, topped with American cheese, pickles and onions served with tubby fries( thin cut on sight). This has to be the best kept secret in St. Charles. My husband kept INSISTING this page had the best steak in St. Charles. In a bowling alley??? HE. WAS. RIGHT. My strip steak was PERFECTLY cooked, had incredible marbling, had a crisp sear, delightfully seasoned, and topped with a delectable butter that made me want to lick the plate. The sides were average. Service was top notch, with the waiter getting every request perfect, drinks refilled before we asked, and anticipating every need. Even though he'd coveted everything, he still checked in multiple times to see if everything was good or if we needed anything. I'll be honest about the ambiance: it's a bowling alley. They have cheap tables and chairs, and the decor is their sponsorship of local teams. I loved it! I definitely wanted to support a business that was so invested in their community. It doesn't try to be fancy and they don't overcharge you to pay for fancy decor. If you want good food, good service and to have a good time while you're here, this is the place for you. read more

I had such high hopes. Every review I read was great and everyone I spoke to said it was the best steak in the area. Our server was wonderful, very friendly and doing everything she could with quick refills! Although the wait was nearly an hour for a table and 45 minutes for food, that is the least of my worries after receiving the food. In my group of 5 people, 3 of us, including myself ordered the ribeye. I can say without a doubt it was one of the worst steaks I've had in a very long time. Imagine taking a beautiful ribeye and boiling it in butter until it's cooked through. That is the only thing I can compare to the steak that was placed in front of all 3 of us. There were no char marks or seasoning, only loads of melted butter. It was slightly overcooked, but that can be easily overcome with a well seasoned and cooked steak, which this clearly was not. I cannot in good faith recommend anyone to get a steak. That said, if you're looking for a burger or chicken tenders - this might be your joint. read more

Oh my gosh.....this meal was excellent....and it's attached to a bowling alley!!!! We started with a yummy appetizer of toasted ravioli, a St. Louis favorite. We shared the entree, which consisted of two tasty sides--a side salad (with decent lettuce, not just iceberg!), a baked potato, and two pieces of char-grilled chicken breast !! It was the perfect amount of food for two to share! This is one of the tastiest meals I've had!!! AND, to top it all off....this place is clean and NON-SMOKING!!! The food was just ok. I was expecting my steak to come out on a sizzling platter.it did not!! The platter wasn't even hot. The steak tasted odd, like it was old. We are new to the area and went for the first time because of the reviews on Yelp. It was packed, and we didn't see a sign that said 'wait to be seated', so we started looking for an open table. I saw a table that was empty but needed cleaned off and I started walking towards it, and one of the servers was super rude to me and snapped "we have a waiting list". I walked back to my husband and he had also been rudely told "there's a waiting list". There was no hostess stand and no indication of where we would even put our name on a waiting list. All they had to do was ask "would you like to be added to our waiting list" instead of being snappy and rude to us. We had never been there before and didn't know the rules. First impressions are everything. We were obviously not welcome and will not go back no matter how many other good reviews there are. One star only because you can't give zero. While it's true, people bowl there and on first glance, you might think Tubbys is just the bar at the bowling lanes - but you would be mistaken. It's actually one of the better places for steaks in St Charles. It's not fancy, but its good. The drinks are strong, the staff is helpful, but the steak is way more then you would have guesses. My wife's double pork chop dinner has a five star rating and my steak dinner only a 3 star rating . The steak was medium rare as I requested, but the butter sauce drowned the meat. Being a 14 ounce cut, it was relatively thin and also lacked much flavor due to the butter sauce. My side salad which I requested their poppyseed dressing was also disappointing, due to a very bland tasting dressing. Compared to other restaurants their alcohol drink beverages are extremely reasonably priced. Got to give them credit for that. I will be back, but the steak will not be on my next order. read more

Let me start by saying that this place has some of the best steaks in town. Loved it. The spicy fried pickles are amazing but are not a regular menu item. I hope this changes soon, they deserve a permanent spot on the menu. It's a bowling alley with a bar and grill attached. My first thought is the outside looks like a dive place. But my coworker swore that this place has great steaks. Ok, I will try anything once. I was pleasantly surprised. Steak was cooked just the way I ordered it, medium rare. Good flavor but lacking a bit on the spice. Decent cut but a little too much fat on me end. Ok, I will admit I have had this place on my radar for a while, but kept avoiding it because, well it's in a bowling alley! But, I kept seeing reviews about the fantastic steaks, so we finally tried it. Holy cow, was this a great spot. Steaks are better than any chain and comparable to the fancy steakhouse's. These are tender, well cooked and seasoned goodness on a plate. Don't let the location scare you off, this place is awesome! One note, they do allow smoking. However, we were sitting between 2 smokers and would not have noticed except visually. They have some amazing air filtration in use. read more
