Frankie performed the landscaping services as requested, but when it came time to pay him, the Zelle transaction did not go through. He promised me that if I paid him through Cash App and the Zelle transaction later competed, he would return my money. Took payment in advance, took off, never came back, promised refund yet can't seem to pay. Some background: On 3/23/24 Francisco "Frankie" Florez (Tucson A1 Landscaping & Design LLC) was paid $600 in advance to remove weeds from the front/sides/back of our property on that day. He insisted on being paid in advance, spend undue time setting-up a Venmo acct, yet only showed up with half the crew promised and left without any notice in under two hours with plenty of sunshine left with less than 10% of the yard even completed. Having to track him down and with no excuse as to why they left, he said they'd be at our house the next morning to complete the work. The next day 3/24/24 they did not show, did not call to provide notice that they wouldn't show, and upon over half a dozen unanswered calls and texts to him, when finally tracked down and cornered, blamed it on his team and said would be there the following morning at 8:30 am now instead. On 3/25/24, Florez again still didn't show, didn't provide any notice, and upon more than a dozen calls and texts to again try track down yet again (zero customer service), he said maybe Thursday. We clarified that that was unacceptable as we had clearly told him needed to have the job completed before Thursday when he took the job, that he continued to not show at the scheduled times, ignored our calls and texts, and he kept bumping back dates, even after being paid in advance. He promised he would be there that Wed at 8:30 am. On Wed 3/27/24, once again, Florez and team did not show up, did not provide notice they wouldn't show up, tried to blame it on 'his office' saying he meant next week Wed (untrue) and that his team driver got a DUI days earlier. Why kept making appointments and not showing without word, however, was left unexplained. Having lost all faith in his business and word, we asked for a refund and he said he would promptly do so immediately on PayPay (even though he was paid on Venmo originally, but had our PayPal info from initial payment). However, he was untruthful, he never did provide the refund, and upon over a dozen more calls and texts yet again that he ignored, he asked for "more time", saying he was "working on getting payment together". Given that we had paid him in cash in advance, we demanded a refund or our cash, and he has since gone dark on us. In short, he took our money, didn't provide services, snuck off at first chance, and never returned, and has made no effort to provide services nor provide a refund. Scam Artist! Did Mediocre work. Frankie Florez, the boss, told me they would do a little more work that day and then would be back to finish up the next day, once they got their truck. I wasn't going to be home the next day, so I paid them, my mistake... Within 5 minutes of being paid they were packed up and sitting on the curb. They told me they would just finish up everything the next day. Never showed. I texted him and he said they would be back in 2 days. Never showed. I texted him about it. No response. We also had an appointment for a re-spray two weeks later. I texted him asking if he would finish up the work then? He surprisingly responded saying yes. Never showed. Frankie is a very personable man yet has difficulty meeting his commitments to finish the job he started. They showed great promise the first 2 days, then things went south after that. I would hire him again if I did not have a timeframe to complete the job and did not mind having my yard in disarray until he returns. I would not pay him the final payment until the job is completed in full (shame on me). I also would not pay the 50% deposit unless he was actually there in person to start the work. I would make sure that I am present while he and his team are working as they tend to leave for hours "on a break" or to "pick up more supplies". He has left me with 5 tons of gravel on the street in front of my house, posing a liability for me. He does NOT know how to lay weed barrier down regardless of what he says, and now has wasted much of the roll that I paid for. I have reached out repeatedly for him for 3 weeks to commit to finishing the job, only to have him say that he will be here on such and such date and that "we will get it done". I wasn't going to follow up my original post, because I didn't want retaliation. But it sounds like others have been taken advantage by this guy. So I feel like I need to say something. After our original conversation, I could not get a hold of him. He finally called me back from a different number and said that he changed phone systems and that was the reason I couldn't get a hold of him. Okay! But I agreed to let him do the work as originally discussed. He said he was going to come by and measure my yard for rock so I could make sure it was delivered before he started the job. He never came by so I took some quick measurements and ordered the rock and had it delivered because if I hadn't, it would not have been there on time and it would have dragged the project out. Of course I ordered way more than I needed at my expense. He started the job on a Thursday afternoon by starting to remove the old rock. I paid him a portion of the money and he promised he would be there on Friday morning, first thing. First thing to him was around noon. And as I am staring at a pile of rocks, I'm wondering if he is going to even show up. He shows up totally unprepared in a sedan. What kind of landscaper doesn't have a truck? No wheelbarrow, but a plastic trash can on a dolly. Hmmm! I loaned him my wheelbarrow!, so he could keep working. About halfway through on Friday, he tells me it's more work than he originally thought and it was going to be more money. At this point being halfway into the project, I had no choice but to agree. But he promised to put some of the extra rock in the front yard, so that made things a little better. His helper showed up later after he got off work from his other job with a truck, trailer and a wheelbarrow. He got part of it done on Friday and said he would be back first thing on Saturday. And of course he wanted more money. He shows up on Saturday with a truck and a wheelbarrow and a helper. Late of course, but they showed up. About 330, he said they were done. And he wanted his final payment. I said what about putting some of the extra rock in the front like you said you would do? He put one wheelbarrow of rock in the front and pretty much he was done. At this point I was getting pretty frustrated and was ready to be done with him. I handed him the final payment in cash folded. He walked over to the truck and walked back to me and said it was $100 short. I had counted the money earlier in the day and knew it was the correct amount. But the mistake I made was that I didn't count it in front of him. He said he wasn't going to mark the invoice paid until I Zelled him $100 and his wife verified that it was deposited. I told him that the money was correct when I handed it to him, but he wouldn't even look at me. I wasn't going to Zelle him money or go to the bank, so I pulled $90 in cash from my wallet and handed it to him and told him that was it. He said it's only $10 short, so he was okay. After they left, I started looking around. They didn't put any of our patio furniture that they moved back, and they didn't clean up their mess in the street. Then he sends me a text with this Thumbtack site and wants me to give him a review. Are you kidding me? I sent him a text back and told him how disappointed I was at the whole experience and I never heard back from him. So after all was said and done, he did the original work he was supposed to do. He did raise the price partway through the job knowing that I couldn't say no at that point. He didn't show up to measure, so I had way too much rock that I had to pay someone else to move. He never showed up when he said he was going to be there. He didn't do any of the other stuff he promised and he didn't clean up after himself. Oh ya, and although I can't prove it, he got an extra $90 from me because I didn't count the money in front of him. My mistake.
