A friend who works at TMC referred me to Tucson Orthopedic Institute's after hours last week when I jammed my toe and needed X-rays to make sure it wasn't broken. I arrived a few minutes before it opened at 5 p.m. on a Monday and was second in line. I was brought into a room within 10 minutes, taken back for X-rays a few minutes later and on my way by 5:45. Everyone was kind, fast and efficient and I left with a treatment plan and contact info in case I had any questions or concerns. I am very grateful to have avoided a trip to the ER or urgent care during cold and flu season, and this experience was fantastic. I'll be recommending TOI's after hours clinic to everyone I know. read more

I have been a patient of of Dr Pritchett for 10 plus years. I have called and spoken to the front desk and his assistant at least three times to try and get a date scheduled to have my left knee which is bone on bone injected starting back on December 20. It's now January 21 and I haven't seen or heard from them since. Too bad there used to be a nice place that was serviced minded we find another specialist. read more

Dr. Mahoney is not good so don't waste your time if you get him assigned to you. Had several appointments and the first one he barely gave me 3 minutes. I had to follow him down the hall to ask him more questions as he and his assistant hurried out of the room. Then he talked about my shoulder needing work, yet when I asked him if he had done these types of surgeries he studdered and basically said a few or none. I tried to get him to give me a referral to another surgeon in Phoenix whom HE suggested but in the end he wouldn't do it and lied and said he couldn't or wouldn't do it and that he never said that. I had to get the patient advocate involved for him to do it. Plus he just didn't seem like he really cared about me, the patient. read more

I had my surgery at TMC. The Care at TMC was very good. My problem is with the surgeon. My trigger ring finger surgery of left hand has ruined my life. I'm left-handed. I can no longer write. I cannot do my art. I have no strength in the hand so my left hand has permanent contractures of the fourth and fifth digit. The office experience was middle of the road. The surgeon, Dr, Mark Braunstein permanently, disabled my hand. me. I sought a second opinion. The surgeon said she could not get my hand to be normal again that I would have to undergo a bone fusion for my fourth and fifth digit to help straighten the fingers. read more

Had a very bad experience with a scheduling assistant named Maria. She was incompetent and put me on hold many times to "ask her coworker " questions. She had no idea anything about the doctors i was able to see, the dates I'm supposed to see for workers comp, nor the clinic i have been visiting for physical therapy. She also got my pt and doctor appointment mixed up and on top of this very rudely told me I need to be more patient. This call took 20 mins for a simple conformation call for an appointment. read more

The doctors, PA's and staff are wonderful. Excellent surgery results. BEWARE OF THEIR MONEY FOCUSED HARRASMENT. I OWED 87.00 AFTER PAYING 45.00 TODAY. THE MONEY GRABBERS REFUSED TO ALLOW MY DOCTOR TO MAKE HIS MD ORDERED FOLLOW UP UNTIL I PAID THE 87.00. I haven't worked for 3 months and have paid monthly what I could. Not until I agreed to pay the 87.00 and signed a form promising it, would they allow the appt. to be made. The real annoying part was their PT department told me I was covered by insurance, then later said I wasn't. Today I learned they don't even accept that plan. Dr.Geoffery Landis was horrendous! If you care about your health and post surgical treatment, stay clear away from him! Got hammertoe surgery and bunion surgery and he put the bones back wrong, caused severe nerve damage and the whole Institute could care less. I addressed thr matter numerous times and they have dismissed me. They do not care about the patient. I have seen 4 other doctors about my botched surgery from Dr. LANDIS AND it had been almost 19 months and still in pain! I guess we should feel lucky just to be seen. We experienced 20 minute phone holds w no answer for 2 days then my wife , bi-lingual, presses the Spanish operator option and behold an operator. This happened again also, they wouldn't answere the English prompt. When asked about this and why no return calls we were met with "Oh" and silence. Insisted we pay cash upfront (over $500.00) for a referral appt. Even though we have insurance. Waited over an hour for an 8:20 am appt which lasted 10 minutes. No expiation of PT we could do at home "You have to go to PT, Dr Burkett doesn't allow us to print exercises for you". As a prior patient of Tucson Ortho I was very surprised in the lack of professionalism and staff manners. read more

After they get you in and tell you what's wrong they direct you to their PT clinic that can't get you in for a month and your in pain. Then you call your doctor leave a message about your condition and he doesn't return your call after a week. So you don't know what to do. Basically for me it's a money grab. Get you in get a diagnosis and now that they have you your stuck. They are good initially but after the diagnosis, all you get are crickets. read more

I had lisfrank surgery on my left foot 1 year ago. I couldn't put pressure on that foot for almost 16 weeks. My recovery was long but well worth the surgery. Don't let your primary care provider refer you here! Let me save you a headache, especially if you're in pain. The scheduling and call back here in to get in is AWFUL!! By far the worse Iv ever experienced. They take months to schedule something and they don't return emails, calls, voicemails nothing. The MAs will say they are sending the msg urgent to the doc and they have 48hrs to respond. I was suppose to be scheduled for an ablation months ago and I still can't get scheduled in... I saw Dr. Shapiro and was disgusted at his treatment of my injuries. Telling me I was experiancing was the injury, walking out of the room, as I was asking a follow-up question, and closed the door on me. I had a follow-up else where and an MRI was preformed and saw possible bone infection, when he said there was none. I left the practice and saw a new one who was kind, understanding and listened to my problems I was having. read more

On May 7 Dr. John Wild performed a surgery for a torn meniscus on my left knee. He seemed to me to be an incredibly competent Doctor who could likely complete this surgery correctly in his sleep. My expectation for recovery is that likely I would be out of pain and back to a more normal life within a couple of weeks. I am a 74 yr old very active woman who, since the meniscus was torn in February was anxious for my active life. Dr. Wild's confidence instilled me with the confidence that I would be well and back to active within around 3 weeks. At three weeks I was using a cane and dragging my Left leg behind me. I made an appointment with Dr. Wild and was able to see his associate. I described my pain and that it was plunging me into depression. I explained my expectation of being back to a normally active life and he said that some never regain that level of activity again. At 6 weeks I saw Dr,. Wild and at that time, still in pain, walking with a cane I asked if anything could be done and I asked if I should try Physical therapy. He agreed and I began the following week. The first day of physical therapy the therapist said I should have begun with him the second week after surgery, Since I had not done that I had exacerbated problems. It is now 5 weeks since I began Physical Therapy, my knee is nearly 90%, the pain is very little and I am writing this to say that while Dr,, Wild and is assistant are likely EXCELLENT IN THE SURGERY WARD their failure to complete my treatment with immediate physical therapy and making the suggestion that I may just need to live in pain the rest of my life was truly not helpful. I felt it was reasonable for me to write this note to give anyone heading into that surgery insight to get into physical Therapy and with the hope the Dr. Wild will correct this lack of judgement. read more

I fractured my arm. Went to the afterhours clinic. They should teach their people to have somemanners. Reception is an open area in the lobby with no privacy. They insisted that I tell them how it happened. And they insisted loudly. Hippa regulations make my medical issues private, but this young man made it public knowledge. So, in tears, I swallowed my pride an d told them that my son hit me. Now, they tell me that I'd have to pay upfront, $750! And they don't want the xrays from the urgent care.( well of course not they can charge me more if they do their own x-rays !) So, I had been there about an hour when one of them tells me that it's been too long since the injury occurred that they won't see me . I need to make a regular Clinic appointment during the day to see one of their doctors . So, I work during business hours . Extremely inconvenient for an after-hours Clinic . I took their next available appointment during business hours which was another week away . So I go into the regular office hours and they also want $750 paid up front . I went through the Martians of a regular office visit . They told me that they would not put a cast on it because under normal circumstances the cast would be coming off at 5 weeks which would only be another week away . So I look at my bill . They told me I had to pay for the doctor, the x-ray, and a cast . That total would be $540 They just added on more up to the $750 because they could . And I suppose legally they can do that . But there will in no way be any kind of refund for the difference , even though I did not get a cast . Now they've made another appointment for a follow-up visit on January 3rd . Since they did absolutely nothing for me for $750 I probably won't be keeping that appointment on the 3rd . Because I don't have another $750 to give them for nothing . read more

The worst for procedure authorization as they admitted to being short staffed and behind. They do not care about taking 4 weeks to get an authorization after they forgot to put it in for 24 days. Do better or take less patients until you can adequately take care of the ones you have. Medical negligence. read more

Receptionist are so rude, I've called multiple times and have yet to speak w/the same person. Getting to medical assistant not much easier. After finally speaking w/medical assistant to clarify my situation, she tells me to call main number and make an appointment to see Dr. Petrow, I call and now I'm told Petrow does not want me as a patient! This guy obviously has the same level of compassion and professionalism as his staff. I'm from out state. How I chose this place God only knows. I can't say that this is the worst, most tragicomically dark, medical facility in the world because I don't know that it is. I can confidently say it's the worst medical facility I've ever been to or heard about. 15 years ago, this was not the case. A close family member had a severe spinal issue, and so I researched the best spinal surgeon in the world. Then I found someone who had studied under him...and they were working at TOI. That doctor was wonderful. Now? Allow me to recapitulate points from other patients' reviews which I agree with. And because I suspect that this place might be deranged enough to try and sue me for saying all this, I must add: all of this opinion is my experience and I cannot say that it is the truth. It is just opinion. (and my opinion for your sake: in the name of God, don' go there. No offense to Mexico, but go to Mexico first.) - providers leaving nasty notes about patients in their file - provider unprofessional, impatient and misdiagnosed treatment - there is one woman there, Kate, who is fairly high up and honestly wonderful to deal with. my guess is that her essential function is to patch up the hostility and spotty quality of the providers enough to keep the place from getting sued. - poor follow up - some of the medical assistants and PAs are hostile and (my experience, not the truth) petty. Eventually said family member went to a different facility in a different part of the state. And, crazy enough: they answered questions, were responsive to an acute situation, go the diagnosis right the first time, and didn't yell at them. In my opinion TOI needs either a complete change of management structure with follow on restructuring or to stop completely. If there were a review board that governs institutions like this, it needs to be reported. In my opinion. Not the truth. read more

To update this review one thing I failed to mention was the snarkiness of the PA, you know the one who said I was to fat. She made a comment I could go to Banner or another group in the Tucson because "they will see people like me. What I failed to tell her was I was already being seen by a banner physician I was there to get a second opinion. Ended up getting the surgery at Banner and they knocked it out of the park up walking the first day without significant pain but nonetheless walking. Thanks Banner and the entire staff. This operation is poorly managed. While their doctors might be competent, their support is understaffed. I don't recommend. Wait times on the phone are over twenty minutes. While their doctors seem okay, follow-up is horrible. Twice I've met with a different provider and tried to get an office report. In one instance, I didn't hear back for two months - and that was after repeated calls. I don't usually rag on medical institutions - I know how squeezed many providers are. But this place is basically a cattle farm. The one saving grace was a great review by Mario, Dr. Holt's assistant. He took the time to listen and offered a good perspective. read more

Well they turned me away after assuring me on two separate occasions that my insurance went through. They said I could pay the entire bill myself. I went home and called my insurance, they said Tucson Orthopedic was in network and fully covered. Do they only care about money? Saw spine surgeon Zeiller back in 2010 after a direct military referral from my Army ortho doctor. Boy, that was the mistake of my life. After multiple office intakes and a pre-op, Zeiller managed to put me in cardiac arrest and flat-lined me during a routine spine surgery that he bragged would only take 1.5 hours. It took more than double the time, and I was asked to wiggle my toes when getting wheeled out of the O.R. -I was worse after surgery and now have permanent disabilities that rendered me medically unfit for the military. He and the NWMC tried to cover this up and his medical notes kept mentioning the word "appropriate." I don't think he even had any working knowledge of the word "appropriate" in any context. My hardware and implants were not what we had discussed pre-op, were insufficient and sub-par at best, and were misplaced and loose for 10 years in my spine! How in the hell does that even happen? Medical malpractice, that's how. -His beside manner sucks unless of course you feed into his overt narcissism. He offered his personal number (not TOI's) so that I could call him in the future to let him know how I was doing. But he blew off every concern that I brought up during paid office visits and my doctor's calls for weeks? What was really going on? Nothing legal, that's for sure. He wouldn't call back my military doctor post-op., and proceeded to tell me that the post op. x-ray and operation that I had concerns about looked great. His words, while pointing at nothing in particular on the x-ray and making a sizzling noise that I hope to one day forget- "Just look at that, it's perfect." Oh my God... Other red flags: he constantly over-booked his victims, never seemed focused, constantly asked which side of the spine was worse repeatedly (directly after he had just asked the exact same question) and still didn't write anything down up until the day of pre-op. I was told post-op. that I would have arthritis in my hips and would not need another surgery until I was 65, however, I had what appeared to be the spine of a 65 year old. (You'll need an interpreter if you go to this practice, the used car salesman b.s. talk is just beyond). He retaliated when I called him into to question about new nerve pain and other newly formed major medical spine pain issues. -I basically had to book a colleague of his post-op., explain the issues and make him aware that this doctor was not the kind of doctor who cares about patient outcomes. His response confirmed that there were known issues. (Even my military doctor told me to go after work in my military uniform and lay on TOI's waiting room floor until he would acknowledge the need for care as the presiding physician). At this point, I was in search of adult-managed medical care. Don't ever let this happen to you! I truly wish I were exaggerating... -Why TOI even kept him around after so many mistakes, I assume can only be summed up by two words- revenue stream. There's no way a surgeon of his caliber and sub par skillset could have successfully flipped operating tables while providing any decent level of care. I still remember his look of shock after the operation, he had really messed up and could barely explain himself. TOI continues to cover up patient issues such as this. Both doctors that I saw could be characterized as insecure bullies and do not respect patients, at all. The Clinical Director still won't call me back and I'm sure I'm not the only one to suffer such permanently horrible surgical results. Do not be the next victim! *** Save yourself, stay far away from this debauchery. Medical professionalism does not seem to exist at TOI. Dr. John Wild is a true surgical artist. I was released today from TOI, after a full knee replacement. Dr. Wild had also removed the "Ace Hardware Store" from my knee last year. And years ago, he performed a meniscus repair on my husband's knee. His recovery time was simply the time that he was in the recovery room. He walked to the car unaided and has never had a problem. This seasoned physician's bedside manner is personable and professional. I'm immensely impressed and grateful to have found him. The OR team exhibited respect and camaraderie as I waited to go back to surgery. It was calming to see the positive interactions, taking place outside my door. The telemetry nurses, Maria, Sonia & Evan were also outstanding with quick responses in spite of having a full unit. God bless this team! read more

I was in desperate need of a good knee brace, and Akilah was there with all the knowledge, experience and empathy that anyone could ever wish for in this circumstance. She patiently explained every detail while expertly fitting me for the best brace for my needs as well as navigating the complicated insurance process. The Office staff does its very best but they are crushed by the patient volume. They have inadequate staff. They definitely get a resounding 5 stars. However, the surgeons are callous, cruel and absolutely unethical. Their treatment of pain is abhorrible. What happen to "do no harm"? My friend has had horrific acute pain after an accident. He has been waiting for 3 months to have surgery and still doesn't know when it will be scheduled. He is in constant acute pain. The doctors act like it's criminal to administer opioid pain management. He writhes at night in bed with severe pain. Their excuse is: "We're all mortal and suffering in pain is mortal." These physicians are absolutely feudal quacks. They'll be prescribing leeches next. Seek care somewhere else or prepare to suffer! read more

I pride myself on being a kind/patient person and I have never left a negative review. But I was so frustrated after trying to get an appointment at this place. I broke and dislocated a bone and was told by urgent care that I would be able to get seen (even on weekends) at this place. When I called the woman who answered the phone was so incredibly rude and short with me and annoyed that I dare call on a weekend. So I went online to try to book an appointment and left my name and the details of what was going on, and have yet to get a call back. Now that I look at all the bad reviews of this place it makes more sense. Maybe the doctors themselves are good but getting past the scheduling department is a nightmare. I googled another orthopedic doctor not associated with TOI and was able to speak to a kind human being who quickly got me an appointment. Don't waste your time with this place. read more
