I absolutely loved everything I have tried from Tucson Village Farm's outdoor midweek market. Today's market was the last one for the season but they will resume it on September 9th (They post updates, menu for their prepared foods as well as the produce they will be selling each week at the midweek market on their Instagram account). I don't go very often because of the lines to pay but whenever I did go I LOVED what I tried. Today I got their delicious, fluffy, fresh and garlicky focaccia which was my favorite focaccia I have bought in Tucson. I also got their baba ganoush, something I am fairly picky about since I make it myself by roasting eggplants on a fire and this one was delicious. It had a touch of spiciness to it which I really enjoyed. I also really enjoyed sampling their mulligatawny soup and enjoyed the complimentary Hibiscus- Creosote drink they served today. Produce wise it was fun to find some sweet potato leaves today and I am looking forward to using them in a West African stew. I also got some eggplant and tomatoes. They had some nice looking garlic, onions, and squash. Last time I was there was last summer and they had delicious, fun, creative prepared dishes then too like a sunflower seed, basil pesto with purslane, a refreshing curtido and a green curry. The fluffy focaccia was $5 today and the baba ganoush was $5 as well. We went for their annual holiday market. It was packed!!! I never knew this place existed and I think a lot of others found out about it from this market, too. It's a farm run by youths. They have weekly farmers markets with things they make and grow such as pizza and soups. I hear the pizza is great! The holiday market had live music, chickens to pet, lots of handmade items from the farm. I was a little confused on how to pay for the items. I believe you get a ticket and everyone gets in one long line. I'll be back to try the pizza and hopefully the line will be short. Very cute place to bring kids to. This was my discovery of the week and I am obsessed! (Specifically the Wednesday Market) - their ambiance is absolutely unique, very chill, everyone is so kind, and cheerful and truly happy to be there both as customers and organizers. I felt welcome to browse and no pressure to get anything. - the products were priced fairly ! I got fresh rosemary and mint ! - the highlight of my first visit was the pizza sold ! That was probably my best pizza in a long time. Love the crust , everything tasted fresh and ymmy. I tried both the regular mozzarella/tomatoe andthe special chimichuri pizza. Both were stellar. I will be going back for at least the pizza - special shoutout to the organizers and volunteers who honestly made me feel so welcome and brought so much joy ! read more

It's been a while since my first review of TVF. A few things have changed since then so, I am updating my review. TVF is a nonprofit organization that provides health and agriculture education to Arizona youth. This org replies on grants and donations to fund their programs. From their website TVF is "a seed-to-table program designed to reconnect young people to a healthy food system, teach them how to grow and prepare fresh food, and empower them to make healthy life choices. " The programs here reach kids from all over the city which is so important. A few of the awesome activities e for kids and families are, summer farm camp, 4H club, Little Sprouts, cooking demos and classes, opportunities to learn about planting, harvesting, All TVF produce is grown herbicide and pesticide free, which I love! I take my 2 year old to shop at their midweek market which supports the farm. You can buy TVF grown produce, farm-fresh soup, focaccia bread, chocolate chip cookies, pizza dough, flowers and more. Their chocolate chip cookies are incredible. We signed up for the little sprouts activities last Fall and they were OK. I think it's more suitable for older children like 3 and up, otherwise you're just chasing your toddler around the gardens. I'll definitely sign up again when my daughter is a little bit older. They've also partnered with Market on the Move to host their produce drives. TVF does not grow the produce provided for MOM, they are just a host venue. MOM helps mitigate waste by collecting and distributing leftover produce from produce houses and distributors. For a $10 cash donation you get 60lbs of produce. Follow TVF on social media for their weekly MOM update. It's a lot of produce, I dont personally go to the MOM but have friends that do and they share the box with friends and family. In short, TVF is a wonderful urban farm that we are lucky to have! read more

We just recently moved to the area and on a bad day I stop and say hi to the cows . I heard they did a farm tour and I was super excited to tour the farm. Different from what I was expecting but better at the same time. I learned the history of how the farm started, the programs they offer to the kids from ages 2 up to high schoolers and how many of them stay because they love the farm, activities and learning so much. They offer a culinary program for kids they learn about the food, how to grow it, cook serve and host a dinner. The volunteers here are full of passion and compassion for what they do and are truly inspiring. On Tuesdays they offer a small market where you can buy produce they grow as well as items such as salsa, pesto, cookies and other items made there with items they grow. Delicious and worth it. If you get the opportunity to visit the farm I highly encourage you to especially if you have kids bring them they will love it! U-pick Tuesdays are incredible! There are several pre-made food options such as a delicious gazpacho and fresh bread. The food is as about as fresh and flavorful as you can get. There are also various vegetables options you can purchase depending on what they have recently harvested. There are also ample opportunities during the day for youth to learn how to grow a garden, harvest and cook their own produce. This place is contributing so much to our community! read more

We are so lucky to have this space in our community. It has grown from a small farm to a larger farm and now a culinary center and event space for community and youth. I happen to attend an event on the back patio. And it really is the best view in Tucson. Anytime an event is going on in this space you should really try to attend. I've also dropped off clothes for swaps and picked food boxes. Even just admiring it from the road as you drive by is a special perk of living here. read more

I've become a regular at the Wednesday 4pm-6pm markets. Extremely fresh (i.e., picked that day) produce, some excellent prepared foods (focaccia, gazpacho, pestos, hummus, cookies, etc.) from their kitchen prepared by the staff, and when available some really good eggs. Some of the best tomatoes I've ever had when they are at their peak, but still better than most even when they aren't. I took two of their Sunday afternoon cooking classes that they offer from time to time. Our instructor had been the lead chef at one of Tucson's top restaurants. You start by going into the garden to pick some of your ingredients. The senior staff is paid, though many started as volunteers or through AmeirCorps, with lots of volunteers assisting, many of them high schoolers participating in one of their many programs for children. The atmosphere is extremely friendly and everyone just seems to enjoy being there. I just got an email saying that they will close for all of August and reopen when the produce available justifies it. read more

I came last Saturday. I heard about them on instagram. They stated that there would be up to 60 pounds of produce for a donation of 10$. I came and paid 20$ in hopes for good produce that I could bring home to my family. The entrance volunteers were nice and gave us two bags of pretzels( which I noticed were expired once I got home). As we arrived to receive the produce , food was placed in our trunk along with some other food items they added. I took a quick look at my trunk afterwards and saw that it was very short of the amount they promised. When I came up to one of the servers and asked about it, they were dismissive and unfriendly. I got home and began to put some of the items away and noticed that more than half was expired and already rotting!! Very disappointed with the outcome. I understand this might have been a donation but who wants to pay 20$ for spoiled and expired items? I hope they are more clear and open about what is expected of what they are providing. If you do plan to come to the Saturday events please check your items thoroughly before leaving! read more

The positive youth development programming at Tucson Village Farm is 5-Star and then some. My daughter has participated in two of their summer camps this year, and I can tell you that I saw an immediate change in her confidence level after picking her up from the first camp. You know a camp is great when your child raves about it year-round and tries to recruit friends to attend. Diversity at its finest. From varying programming options to cuisine from around the world, TVF truly goes above and beyond to inspire today's youth for tomorrow's challenges. read more

Fun! Brought the kids, picked some veggies, amazing staff available to help with anything - I can't believe I've never been here before! They have a 5-week-old baby cow named Norman that will be at the farm until he's about 10-weeks-old. Centrally located and fun to wander around even if you chose not to pick or buy veggies. Make sure to check current hours on the website. They are currently only open to the public a few days a week and Tuesdays from 4-6pm look like the only U-Pick hours right now. Where do I begin?? My family LOVES this place. The Tucson Village Farm is a working urban farm built by and for youth, It's definitely a GEM in our community. It's a seed-to-table program, designed to reconnect young people to a healthy food system by teaching them how to grow and prepare fresh food and make healthy life choices. A few of the awesome activities and events happening here for kids and families are, summer farm camp, 4H club, cooking demonstrations and classes, opportunities to learn about planting, harvesting, and even milking a cow (Gertie the mechanical cow that is) and so much more. My girls attended Farm Camp this past summer and had a BLAST!! In addition to learning to plant and actually harvesting veggies and herbs each day, they also harvested wheat, learned how to make whole wheat flour, then made pizza dough from scratch and then delicious pizzas. Another day it was learning to make cheese and other healthy snacks. Both came away from the experience inspired to start their own organic garden and an appreciation for the process of how food gets on our table. Families can get a 'taste" of what kids are experiencing at Tucson Village Farm's "Taste of the Farm Harvest Festival!" on November 5th from 10-2. It's FREE fun for the whole family! read more

I went to U-Pick Tuesday 3-5pm. I thought I'd fallen in a space-time warp. I was sure I was in Granny's garden. Everything was so lush and yummy looking. I wanted to sit in the middle and just start gobbling everything up. I didn't even though Granny wasn't that with a switch. There were several staff members on hand to assist. I had come fro the local honey at $10 a jar & left with several pounds of greens. And edible flowers too. DH was too funny in his out & out refusal to eat a flower. Silly boy! It's really easy to bike down the river-walk path. The south side of the river Campbell exit dumps you in the Village parking lot. read more

This is 1 of my favorite places in Tucson! If you are a teacher, if you love organic gardening, native plants or want to learn more - this is the place! The plantings are fabulous & you'll get lots of ideas at the MG Demo Garden. Its so much fun to wander around & see whats in bloom and what veggies are ready for harvest. The veggie gardens are incredible too. They selll their organic produce on Tuesday PMs - and it is generally excellent. They have plenty of info there and sometimes have plant sales and classes. Grow your own food if you can. Pot up some vines & flowers & plant natives... Its an experience to treasure... read more

What a great part of our community! I am having my son join them this summer so he can learn all about growing in the desert (and teach me) the wonder of chickens and the egg too! I have met several of the people on board with this organization and they are remarkable and so passionate about passing on their good news and hard to work to the next generation. I reviewed this place previously with a complaint that the veggies they have for upick were not "table-friendly", but since then their selection of veggies has improved considerably. They have broccoli, beets, sunchokes, lettuce, zucchini and all kinds of enjoyable veggies. read more
