Throughout his journey,I worked with Mike Bro. His professionalism and kind manner immediately reassured me I was in good hands. I had many concerns, and he was able to address every one of them. I feel truly blessed to have done my rehabilitation at Tula; it is spacious, clean and inviting environment. Additionally Anders and Destiny at the front desk were always so welcoming. Mike is amazing! I came to Tula with a pinched nerve in my lumbar spine and during my early sessions, he utilized manual techniques and showed me simple stretching exercises to help ease the pain. Before long, he was patiently guiding me through the weight-training phase of my recovery using Tula's extensive array of machines and gear. I was very fortunate to have a deep tissue massage by Adrian Caban, LMT, CPT. Adrian was outstanding. Not only is he a certified personal trainer, but Adrian is a certified cupping therapist, myofascial release, trigger point, deep tissue and sports massage. Okay I stopped going to UES - HSS to get my routine occupational therapy. Though I love HSS - it's just so dang far for me to get to. Because seriously getting to York is insane - it takes me an hour and it really takes a tow on me. So now I transferred to a place that's easier to get to and that doesn't consume all of my energy. I had both of the Therapist here - Leslie and Stacy. I like Leslie more than Stacy since Leslie seem to be more personable and I click better with Leslie since she's crazy and I love crazy people. Stacy makes me massage my own hands or sometimes she will give me the massager and makes me hold the machine to do it myself. I am not being a spoiled brat but Emily at HSS always massaged me. This would be my only rant since I don't like the fact that I have to massage myself. But I do however like this place because they seem to have more tools here. They are now doing electric-shock therapy on me and it's really relaxing. My other rant is that the elevator here is super duper slow! read more

My partner stopped physical therapy because while we have very, very good insurance, and submitted EVERYTHING necessary in a timely fashion, Shift's billing and front office failed completely on their end. When I spoke to Empire Blue Cross, they told me that Shift had not sent in the doctor's medical authorization. I immediately let Shift know--a few weeks ago. Meanwhile, my partner, distressed by this, stopped much-needed physical therapy. Negative-minus five stars for this. Any good job on the part of the actual therapists is totally undermined by this kind of mismanagement. And this is with health insurance that we pay over a thousand dollars a month for; and as I said to the guy in the office--it's becoming my full time job to sort through your mistakes. I have been working with Mike for several months and am not only cured of my original back pain, but so much stronger and have better balance than when I started out. He is whip smart, knowledgeable, and super tuned in to what is needed in my particular case. This was a good place. The practitioner was fabulous. But the office staff ran from the mismanagement of the owner. Jacked the price by 50$ a session and shortened the session without notice. There are many other facilities that are better managed than this. The vibe was good, but the place became more cramped. Adding a wall and more tables. I do not recommend this facility. Plenty of others in the area that don't change fees or times without notice. Be happy when you heal. read more

This is the second PT place I've gone to in the city, and it's great. Clean, spacious, uncrowded, lots of new machines, spacious locker room with showers, plenty of people to help. And a lovely sky-and-city view out the windows. Everyone seems knowledgeable, attentive and personable. My main hand OTs, Jen and Leslie ("Lady Gaga") are indeed great and fun. My PT Rebecca is great and took wonderful care of my shoulder! These people are very connected to their work, and to you, in such a calm, gracefully competent and knowledgeable way. It's really impressive. A big plus: Performance works closely with you and your insurance co. Unlike the last place, where I found out I back-owed a hefty bill for the previous month. (I know, it's ultimately my responsibility, but still-- The point is, even in finance, they pay close, caring attention.) Yes, the elevator's VERY slow, especially since a few extra floors have filled up since my first visits here. And the stairs are tough, as the door to 8 is locked (you could knock and get in from a helpful stranger). PS: I've changed my rating to 4 stars, because for some reason, my original review was FILTERED OUT(!); I'm hoping the automated system re-assesses my review. The therapists are excellent, some of the best, their assistants are friendly, their monitoring my progress was on a computer allowing another therapist to take over when necessary. This gets top ratings of 5 stars ***** Their reception, scheduling is oddly, confusingly shared with several offices and doctors creating congestion and confusion. Most of my appointments have had to be corrected by me several times, even when written down. There is no online check to verify appointments. There is something funky with their system. The confused inattentiveness at the front desk does a disservice to the highly professional therapists, too bad. This gets 0 stars The elevator, only one, is slow and crowded, but has handicap access ramps. This gets 3 stars *** The place is beautiful, filled with light and positive ambiance, with very clean locker rooms, and interesting equipment. I wrote my first review of Shift PT in August of 2012. I work in the healing field and I have written 6 books on intuition and healing. I now go to shift as part of my psychological, spiritual and, of course, physical maintenance program. Shift is a healing oasis. The various therapists I use (acupuncture, chiropractic, physical therapy, massage) are so attuned to my being that they know what is "off" in my body before I do. I especially like the way that they all work as a team to give the patient the best care. My whole family now goes to Shift from my 13 year old stepson who's anxiety and asthma has improved with Shift treatments to my brother and sister in law who both had chronic physical infirmities. Tried Shift PT after other unsuccessful acupuncture attempts (I began questioning this form of therapy completely) Needless to say, it really really did work. I've had back issues after a fall three years ago a combination of acupuncture and massages has greatly reduced my pain. Is it expensive? So another round of therapy for my shoulder with the marvelous Jeremy Laverdure. Jeremy knows exactly what he's doing and his presence is so kind and soothing that PT is a joy. He's worked with me on my right shoulder which could use a replacement and so far we've been able to avoid that surgery. The cartilege is gone but we've been working on strengthening the muscles around the area and I've gotten stronger and able to do more than I could before. Not limited to just your body, but also healing for your mind as well. -- The people: Dr. Joe - I followed Dr. Joe from his previous establishment at Space for Wellness. He knows his craft and understands the body to a T. I go to him for chiropractic treatment as I have scoliosis and I've been having neck strains. But his knowledge doesn't stop at chiropractic treatment. He's the guy that people go to when they've been to 10 other doctors about a bodily ailment that can't seem to be healed, and he will most likely than not be able to help you find "a cure". I would highly recommend him to anyone. Anu - This lady is amazing. The first time I met with her I had no idea what was going on, but hear me out. I felt like I was in a therapy session with some body work being done, but that's just it, the topics that were discussed, and the things that she pointed out, were extremely eye opening and made me really think about things. The 2nd and 3rd time I went back, I can't say enough, when I leave her sessions, I'm always in the most relaxed state of mind and my body always feels so much lighter. She heals by feeling where's there's strain in your body, and because certain parts of your body are tied into different emotions, she'll inquire about certain topics. It's hard to explain.. But she strongly believes that happiness and balance in mind can heal any body ailments - and she helps you reach that balance. Mila - She's the acupuncturist here and really nice. I'm fairly new to acupuncture. I always recommend it because I know it's supposed to help with blood flow and just stabilizing your body in general. I've strained my neck twice in the past 2 months and sometimes the sessions would eliminate the pain for a few days and it would be amazing, and other sessions it didn't seem to do much - but I'm not an expert in acupuncture so I can't really judge what should happen each time. -- The takeaway - It's a great establishment. The people at ShiftPT are here to help and guide you to a balanced and healthier lifestyle and/or helping you heal from a past injury and reach a balanced and healthier lifestyle. Unbeaten quality of physical and occupational therapy in Manhattan. Leslie Diamond is the most experienced hand therapist I have found in four years, two boroughs and three U.S. states. Her extensive knowledge provides you with get-to-the-point treatments each day that work towards a multi-month goal of rehabilitation. Leslie and her colleagues treated me over the course of one year on two, separate, 4+ month blocks to help relieve me of tendonitis in my hand due to excessive computer work. She leaves you with knowledge to bring home with you and continue self-treatment. She is motivating and extremely fun to talk to during the treatments, as well. Don't listent to these reviewers who don't know how to take ownership of their own medical insurance and financial decisions. They should have known the details of their medical insurance plans, before walking into a doctor's office. No excuses for putting yourself in that position. It only takes one phone call to your insurance company to find out what is and what isn't covered from the prescription you're given and at which facility. And most plans have the option to pay for out-of-network. I had multiple billing discussions and even decided to complete extra treatments that were not covered, just to ensure my condition was relieved. That's how great they are here. No reason to make the whole place appear bad, just because of your own billing issues. Sheesh. Rumor has it that these one-star reviewers weren't even ShiftPT patients. Perhaps PT at a different place or someone else within the same, joint facility. read more

I really like this place! I have terrible occupational stress and some other issues that I needed a place like Shift. I scheduled an appointment for both acupuncture and massage and have been excited by the results. Also, I've had a lot of acupuncture over the years but this was by far the best session I've ever had. Mila worked with Michael my CMT and they devised a plan -- I'm not 100% yet but can't wait to see them later this week. I find the cost (cash) really reasonable for the work. I had my first session with Dr.Joe recently and I have to say it was the best decision I have made as of late in regard to my health and overall well being. Due to my very stressful lifestyle, I have always had tightness, soreness and sometimes pain in my shoulders and back and have learned to just live with it, this was until my friend recommended me to see Dr. Joe after her very positive treatment with him. After one session with him, I felt 10 times better--super relaxed and exceptionally light. This experience made me realize just how much of a disservice I was doing to myself and my overall well being before my visit to Shift. My positive experience started as soon as I walked in. The receptionist was friendly, attentive and extremely helpful with the insurance paper works. The space itself is absolutely beautiful--very clean and bright with wide open spaces--evoking a calm and tranquil atmosphere. I was greeted by Dr. Joe shortly after my arrival, he was very personable yet professional, not to mention very handsome. With Carla Bruni playing in the background, Dr.Joe started my session with an initial evaluation and pinpointed my problem areas right away. He addressed my symptoms with electric massage therapy followed by assisted stretching and realignment of my spine. Because I have never been to a chiropractor, I was extremely nervous about the "cracking" aspect of the treatment but Dr. Joe's extremely calm and reassuring demeanor completely put me at ease, taking his time and making sure I was ready before he did any adjustments. Dr.Joe made several painless adjustments, bringing immediate relief to a lot of the tensions I was carrying in my shoulders and lower back. At the end of my session, he gave me some "homework" to ensure that I continue on my path of recovery. Dr. Joe is a true healer. In one session, he was able to alleviate a lot of the symptoms I have had for some time and has gotten me to take my overall well being more seriously. Shift therapy has a welcoming efficient front desk, a serene, calm and professional atmosphere. The therapists all seem to have special strengths, so you might try several before you decide on the person for you. For my TKR surgery, I primarily used Dr. Nicole Ramos. She soon developed a plan for me with home exercises that changed as needed, and daily addressed my current changing problems. She used many different techniques as my pain level changed.I started leaving my cane home, and eventually achieved high evaluation measurements and normal mobility. I am so grateful that some friends sent me to Shift; you will be pleased! read more

I recently received a total replacement of my right knee and began my out-patient PT here. What a wonderful, professional environment to get well in. The therapists are uniformly friendly, knowledgeable and supportive. The equipment is "state of the art". In addition to PT services, there is acupuncture, yoga, massage, and anything else you might need. Once a week acupuncture drastically reduced the swelling in my knee. The low impact machines have allowed me to get aerobic activity. My surgeon says that my recovery is well ahead of schedule. read more

I walked into Shift PT initially for a splint to guard my thumb which was recently dislocated. Jennifer and Maggie not only had an awesome sense of humor but they were able to mold a splint for me in minutes while keeping me entertained. I decided to schedule an appointment with Jen to start hand therapy to get my thumb back in business. Both Jen and Leslie provided great insight into how to get range of motion back for my thumb, which is extremely stiff. With challenging exercises and a take-home custom "thumb bender", they set me off on a course of recovery. Unfortunately, they are out-of-network for most major insurance companies so I had to switch to another PT that was in-network. Thank you Jen and Leslie! My new PT is not nearly as entertaining. read more

I recently came in to see Dr Joe Caracillo and I'm so glad I did. My body feels ten times better. He's not the kind of chiropractor that just starts cracking your neck and back. He put me through a variety of positions and stretches, and gave me some great excercise to loosen up my shoulders and back. In addition, he asked if I had been eating a lot of red meat. I had, and he could tell. Very interesting. He told me about some health food items I should look into such as chia seeds and coconut water! I'm so glad I came in to see him and I've also been pickier about what I've been putting in my body. read more

Keeping a non-essential oil blaster spewing a noxious fog into the waiting and professional area---thereby polluting the indoor air with lung irritating "essential" oils--is not my idea of a health space. As a chemically-injured person, just being in the room a few minutes was highly irritating to my lungs while the few minutes I was there as well as for several hours afterwards. While still there I asked my PT if I could asked to speak to the manager and work out a reasonable accommodation. Behold: Patrick, the narcissistic Yuppie twit who runs this place. In a mere five minutes he expressed his complete contempt for the wellness of his clients, refused to listen to reason, was void of a single compassionate comment, interrupted me repeatedly, and refused to consider any point of view aside from his own. What a great businessman; a remarkable healer too! Do yourself a HUGE favor: run away from Shifty PT as fast as your injured body will take you. Don't even call. There are too many other PT centers in this town to put up with this kind of idiocy. read more

Great service, but here's why they get one star: My PT was not covered by my insurance so I paid cash...$175 per visit (I went twice). However, ShiftPT still billed my insurance, even though I paid cash, and for $400 for my first visit and $300 for my second visit. I'll be reporting this place for insurance fraud. read more

Simply the best physical therapy facility I've been to out of 3 different ones over the years. I worked with Jeremy as I was recovering from surgery. he pushed me but not to an uncomfortable point and I made great progress. I cannot recommend him highly enough. I spent about three months coming here last year, and I've got nothing but great things to say about Leslie. I came in because of tendinitis in my wrist that had shaken off two cortisone shots and looked like it was headed to surgery. I was skeptical about whether OT could actually help, but I figured it was worth a shot. Leslie put me on a routine both for things to do there and things I could do on my own, and was quite accommodating to my admitted reluctance toward homework, giving me things I could do while sitting at my desk or killing time waiting for the train. A year after I first went in, I'm happy to say that not only have I not had to have surgery, I'm basically pain-free. Whereas when I went in I was wearing a wrist brace almost every day, now I might put it on for a night every month or two, and most of the time it's like nothing was ever wrong in the first place. So, despite my skepticism, whatever Leslie did, it worked. That's certainly the most important thing. But on top of that, if you have to spend two or three hours a week sitting around doing nothing except playing with silly-looking toys and having your hand wrapped in packs of various temperatures, this is a great place to do it. Leslie and her crew make it fun to hang out, so much so that I was sad to leave when I was finally told that my wrist was fine and I didn't need to come back. In addition to her expertise with hand problems, Leslie's pretty good with relationship problems as well. And nobody gives a better cocoa-butter hand massage. So really, just go already. And allow yourself ample time for the elevator, which, as one of the other reviewers already mentioned, is as slow as a snapping turtle on quaaludes. read more

I have to thank my friend for the referral to Dr. Joe Caraccilo. I was skeptical at first to try another chiropractor since I have been to few for many years. I was in a horrific car accident 11years ago where I got rear ended by a car going over 65 mph and I was at a dead stop. (it was a taxi cab racing another car) After several years of treatments, I stopped since I did not get better. Yet my neck and upper back pains were still there. I definitely felt the difference as soon as Dr. Joe cracked my neck. He also gave me this electrical massage treatment to relax my upper back followed by a real assisted stretch massage treatment by Michael who was awesome! The place is super clean and relaxing. I am a huge advocate for this Space for Wellness and will be coming back for continued care for sure! read more

I spent five months at Performance Hand Therapy. I had a very serious wrist break and thought I'd lose most of my functionality forever. Nothing could have been harder than starting rehab, but by the end of my time there, I didn't want to leave. Leslie and Jennifer got my hand to a place I didn't think it could be post-surgery. I started so disheartened, but ended so relieved. The place is very nice, good ambiance with very friendly front-desk staff and conveniently located on the same floor as my orthopedic surgeon. Jennifer couldn't be nicer and Leslie is hysterical and extremely knowledgeable. They make intense hand therapy enjoyable. Not only did they get my hand up and running again, Jennifer had invaluable ideas for my wedding planning and Leslie really rounded out my dance music playlist as well as provided interesting margarita recipes. I really came to look forward to therapy in the end and will miss regularly hanging with the girls. I will forever be indebted to them for giving me my hand back. If anyone I know needed hand therapy, I'd send them here. read more

Started PT post-op labral repair, challenging to address with surgery and PT. Progress was very good, but with residual musculoskeletal pain energy drain. Mila changed things for me with the addition of a calming, powerful integrated healing regime--acupuncture. As an experienced and highly skilled practitioner she gives a welcomed boost to PT, with pain relief and reduction of scar tissue from wounds, for increased range of motion, all without medication. The complimentary modalities of PT, acupuncture and medical massage worked so well together that I firmly believe all PT outfits should offer more integrated therapies; for me, it clearly ramped up recovery from a host of chronic injury and imbalances. From time to time, the needle insertion can be a bit jarring--as with a trigger point release--but chronic pain relief in the days to follow trumps the minor discomfort. She uses high quality needles which are easy to tolerate, in any case. I can't put a price on the degree of improvement experienced soon after the first couple of sessions. read more

This place is beautiful! Very clean, with wide open space, smells great, plants and energy crystals adding to the bright feel of the place. My experience with the therapists and other staff has been so warm, welcoming, and educational. I never expected to get excited about having to go to PT but this place is full of such delightful employees who are very clearly happy to be working there, which I love to see, and I have such a good time chatting with them so I look forward to each visit. The quality of treatment I have gotten here has also been 5 star worthy. Every time I come in for treatment I walk away with new knowledge. They really put in effort to explain my condition and how the treatments are affecting my muscles and joints- I love free education, and being able to understand what is going on with my body. A+ for educating patients. Another thing I love about Shift is the integrative approach they offer. It's such a logical idea and I really hope it becomes a more common thing in other PT facilities. The most potent work I have had here has been given to me by Mila, the acupuncturist. Acupuncture has made a life changing difference for me. With certain techniques she healed my sprained ankle nearly 90% in one session! As well as significantly helping an injured rotator cuff, wrist, and alleviating chronic knee pain I've had for decades. I have also received acupuncture from her that has helped with my anger, headaches, anxiety, and excessive sweating. I am awed by the range of things acupuncture can help with, and how Mila seems to know it all and then some. I would also recommend trying a session with Anu. It can loosely be described as mind/body work. I can't articulate well what a session with her is like. End result is that my body releases pain and tension and I walk away feeling enlightened- far from your average PT session. Basically, if you need healing of any sort this is the place to get it. I don't yelp often but this place deserves my time. The team there has made such a difference for me. read more

I was looking for a chiropractor and came across this place on yelp. I ended up going that day because my back was all out of whack and felt horrible. The receptionists were great and easy to work with. They found me an appointment time within a couple of hours. I met with Dr. Joe who is literally the best chiropractor I've ever been to. The office feels more like a spa and he not only uses traditional methods to realign my back (all the good cracking) but also suggests exercises and super foods to incorporate into my life that will make me feel better every day. I broke my finger and because it went undiagnosed for almost a month, I was in pretty bad shape -- I couldn't use my hand, I was in pain all the time and my finger was swollen and couldn't bend. Within a couple of visits with Leslie, I was bending and moving my finger and within a couple of weeks I can see incredible improvement. I have done physical therapy for other injuries and I've never been to anyone as good as Leslie Diamond or Performance Physical Therapy. They are extremely professional, the facility is bright and friendly and the care is of the highest quality. I can't recommend them highly enough. read more

I was refereed over to shift PT by my chiropractor Dr. Joe at space for wellness. I  really love this place. I think that  Shift PT  is a professional  and very organized Physical therapy clinic.  The staff were all extremely  helpful  and the space is very clean and organized . I saw a massage therapist named  Michael who made me  feel relaxed  immediately  with his calm presence. He was very professional and asked questions about my pain. His massage was very therapeutic and he actually listened  to what  I said and worked on the areas that needed to have worked on.   I  left there feeling much better then when I  came in. Being told I may never be able to open my hand again at the same time I could not use my arm is what I was faced with when I first went to Performance Physical Therapy, aka Performance Hand Therapy. I was introduced to Leslie, their Director of Hand Therapy, and was unsure of what to expect. I looked at this petite, attractive young lady and wished myself luck. It only took a few minutes for me to feel comfortable I was in the care of a knowledgeable professional. Leslie has a look of confidence that welcomes the challenge. She knew what to ask me and what tests she had to perform on my arm and hand to develop her game plan. It was obvious Leslie knew exactly what she and I needed to do to attack my problems. During the first month or so of my visits, Leslie was with me virtually every moment. When she was not with me either Jennifer, the other Hand Therapist, or Henrietta their aid, was with me making sure I was comfortable and doing my exercises correctly. This one on one treatment was totally different then my past experience with P/T's who typically pointed where to go and left me and their other patients do their exercises on their own. After being in her and her associates care for months it is clear they are the most honest and diligent people I have worked with in the medical profession. Everything they have told me would happen in the future if I did my home therapy along with keeping my appointments came true. I have read the other reviews and they are pretty accurate. Leslie and everyone else are personable and quick witted which makes the chore of going to Therapy a pleasure. I was in severe pain when I saw the hand therapist -Jennifer Ossenbeck. I was in a really bad phase then. To come back from there and survive is nothing short of a miracle for me. Thanks to Jen,she is amazing at her job. She evaluated my condition thoroughly and designed a personal exercise program which included various hand exercises and massage. Her caring nature, sense of humour can bring a smile to the face of even the most distressed person. It took me some weeks, but I came back, stronger than before. I am sure that Jen will keep saving lives and careers. Changing this to 4 stars, as the 5 star review was filtered for some reason. read more
