We were able to come in just before the rush. The decor of the restaurant is festive and tasteful with light colored walls and art. Could use some updating with seating and walkways. The tacos were seasoned very well for my taste, spicy but tolerable. And packed with meat. With all the Mexican restaurants I've been to, this was a pleasant surprise with how much meat was on there. The steak quesadilla was also filled with a lot cheese. That being said, one could argue they do fill their plates with an excess amount of food, but who would really complain about that? For dessert, the tres leche was very moist and a very big portion with a lot of whipped cream. The churros were also fresh and warm with just the right amount of filling accompanied with nice cold ice cream. Prefect harmony. Pretty decent place with good food and friendly service. Try to the chorizo fundido to start and have a margarita or two for sure. The tacos are tasty and the fajitas are super yum. If you like authentic Mexican food then this is the perfect place for you. The food is good and the service and atmosphere is fine. Their drink prices are a little high considering they consider a shot a full drink. So if you order a patron on the rocks they pour a single shot on ice for $9 or $10. A little pricey in my opinion. As someone who loves tacos and quesadilla, this place hit the spot. This place really is generous with the meat portions, which I can appreciate. Also, meat was really good/high quality. Tulcingo never disappoints. My wife and I have been at least a dozen times over the last year. My wife always gets two beef tacos adds on beans and rice. I like to try something new most of the time. Today I had this sizzling bowl of beef, chicken, pork and chorizo along with green peppers and onion. All topped with wonderful cheese. The dish was very hot and included beans and rice and five corn tortillas. The staff is super friendly and pays close attention to refills on drinks and chips And salsa. read more

We ate outside for lunch. Very reasonable prices and great tacos. We ordered a side of guacamole and it was a very generous portion.

Pretty good - fresh food, generous portions. Surprisingly they include an actual side-salad portion of salad which almost never happens. Why two missing stars? I'll put the two stars in when: 1) the service improves. Not the waitresses fault or the kitchen's, but whoever is managing this place has got to give the staff and kitchen a better sense of procedure. 2) they improve the layout. There's no host station, so you stand at the door where you are immediately confronted by a 4 top. So you walk back to talk to a waitress across patrons practically to let them know you're there in a very crowded restaurant. They acknowledge you then forget about you (again, not waitresses fault - management has made this place nearly impossible). They are squeezing every square inch of tables and chairs into the space which makes it unmanageable. 3) What's up with the Carne Asada? It's all Carne, no Asada. Sure, it was pounded out and tender -- but it was kinda not carrying anything that smacked of flavor or the great outdoors. It's bland. BUT: The seafood soup was AMAZING at the price. Prices are WAY lower than Manhattan mexican restaurants would charge. A few management-based tweaks and this place will be unstoppable. read more

The food is great! The service is above average for Monroe. The floors are slick. Not sure they ever clean them. The tables all wobble. They have crammed so many tables into the space you're constantly hitting the people behind you. The new menu has a six point font on a black background that no one under 30 can read. And I don't even know where to begin with the music that makes it impossible to have a conversation with anyone at your table. read more

I used to love this place. But for some reason, they have gotten sloppy and just plain disrespectful to customers. I picked up a soup and salad. The soup was the sopa Del Mar. the soup tastes amazing but I stuck my spoon in to eat it and Half a crab comes out with the shell still on! What if a kid was eating this and someone choked? I almost ate it. The menu says nothing about full shell. I called them and a waitress starts arguing with me about the soup telling me to just use my fork to pull apart the crab? So then I asked for the manager and another woman gets on the phone after I heard the waitress telling someone how ridiculous I am. I asked the next woman if she was the manager and she told me the manager is gone for the day. So I explained myself and she thought I was trying to place an order. After I told her again why I was calling and asking why it was appropriate to talk badly about the customers, she doesn't apologize and just says "I don't know what you heard but I just got handed the phone. I can offer you STORE CREDIT but I'd need the soup back" after she got done telling me she knows how the soup is made. I hung up. Because they were so rude, unaccommodating, and didn't frankly care about the obvious choking hazard of their soup, I will be reporting them to the health department. Before I ordered to go from them I had been a frequent customer for 10 years. However this past year, their food has been sloppy and the waitresses are extremely lazy. I was actually very surprised. I read the reviews before and I was ready for something else. Very nice small restaurant the food was very good. I visit that place on the lunchtime not so busy. You could tell that food was very fresh. I gave them only 4 stars because the waitress was okay and my frozen margarita was kind of lousy not too much alcohol. Hubby got a mix plate of tacos and enjoyed them so much he ordered more but ended having to get them to go cause the we waited too long for them. A very good mexican restaurant in this area. A friend of mine took me here, it is one of her top 5 favorite places to eat. We started off with nachos, served with queso blanco which was different in a very good way from standard cheddar/mont jack nachos. They were served with lots of veggie toppings, a good way to start of the night. Both margaritas and sangria were very good - the margarita was strong. Nice! For dinner we shared veggie fajitas and veggie gorditas. The gordias were huge and I would definately get that again. The fajita came piping hot out of the oven with lots of veggies. It was nice to have some more authentic mexican food while taking time catching up with an old friend. They were happy to let us linger over our food, which I really appreciated. read more

So far, my favorite Mexican joint in Orange county(I've been to 5). The food is tasty and isn't dripping in grease and cheese, it's very fresh too! I also love the sangria. The place is small though and usually has waits in prime time. Beware, the people at the bar are usually waiting for tables too. I usually get the chicken quesadillas, my husband goes for the steak ones and then we share. Only downsides are weak salsa and they charge you for additional orders of chips and salsa. read more

I'll try to keep this brief. Went in here on a Friday night. No tables available. Sat at bar, ordered drinks. 5 minutes - table opens up (no drinks yet). Go over to table with our waitress as another waitress is sitting people at the table. Ask for open table by window.. got table in middle of room. Guacamole might as well be green tomato sauce, they throw so many tomatoes in there it's pitiful.. Bartender asks how we want our drinks.. "In a shot glass?" NO. Who drinks a mixed drink out of a shot glass? They bring drinks out in old-fashioned glasses, no ice, with about 2 ounces of liquid in them. Are they kidding? This is at least an 8 ounce glass, and its 3/4 empty. $9 for that drink -- better be Johnny Walker Blue. No steak in the steak quesadilla. No presentation on ANYTHING. Shrimp Burrito.. must have had 4 cocktail shrimp in the whole thing, DICED. Getting annoyed just thinking about this place. It has been YEARS since I've walked out of a restaurant without leaving a tip.. but I had no choice here, the service was terrible and I left them nothing. Will not be going back. There was another dish we ordered, don't remember what it was.. and I'm sure it was just as forgettable as this dining establishment. Oh, and they ain't reasonably priced either.. My new favorite Mexican restaurant! I travel all over, and found this restaurant on Yelp. It is nothing to look at on the outside; looking like a small local run-down "quicky-mart", but has a small dining area inside. The menu was surprisingly extensive. The guacamole was delicious and made fresh to order. I had tacos that were amazing; the beef wasn't the typical seasoned hamburger, but chucks of slow-cooked stew beef in some kind of tomato sauce- wow! Great traditional Mexican food in a nice sit down atmosphere with awesome drinks. My wife and I started going to Tulcingo when it first opened and it was just a tiny corner storefront with 3 tables, jukebox, a cooler, and counter, and even then the food was great. It's been great watching them grow over the years to become a really nice looking restaurant that just serves consistently tasty authentic Mexican fare. Though we've moved to Newburgh and really miss going to Tulcingo on a regular basis, we do try to stop in if we are in the Monroe area. The burritos are huge and quite filling, the chimichangas the best in the area, the sandwiches chock full of fresh ingredients, the entree dishes feature delicious chicken, pork, beef, and seafood, and the tacos are wonderful. DO NOT pass up sampling some of their green sauce, which is fiery and has plenty of lime, garlic, peppers, and smooth avocado, and goes great on chips as well as any entree. Also, make sure you check out one of the many margarita selections. Service is always great, but make sure you get there early as this place gets busy and crowded. read more

Very tasty! The chips and salsa were bright with freshness. I ordered sopes with spicy pork, and they were tasty- the pork was hearty and the corn masa was freshly molded and baked to a warm, slightly charred chewiness.
