The Heart of the Business
Chris P.

Looking for a specific service, I typed in "sawmill" to the Gongle - this place came up, so I checked out their site. Lots of beautiful things created from reclaimed LOCAL wood! My interest piqued. After I called and spoke with Rob, the owner, I knew I had found the local mom-and-pop type place where you get personal relationship and one-on-one attention. I made the 1.5 hour drive from San Diego to check it out and hopefully get what I needed. I budgeted for an hour at the place, but ended up spending FOUR there, and not in a bad way! I was really having a good time playing with the dogs, walking around the outdoors - Rob showed me all the wood he has around from logs felled during the San Diego fires in 2007 to logs recovered from ravines that are more than 100 years old. Really amazing stuff! We picked out a stump, Ray (the hired help at the place) cut it with a huge chainsaw on the spot - and nearly perfectly square! then we de-barked it, ground down the edges, and even sandblasted it a little. Ray easily put in 90 minutes of labor on this thing. All that for $50. I got a 36" tall cedar stump (which will soon be a bedside table) and lots of service. I can't recommend this place enough, Rob and Ray are genuine folks and will get you what you need - no matter what it is.

An amazing place

Rob and Jackson were a great help. Ron's advice on the many different types of hard wood slabs for our bar, was extremely helpful. He was very generous with his time explaining how to prep and treat the wood slabs. Thank you so much we can't wait to get our wood slabs in a couple of weeks, for our bar!!!!

I reached out creative design&build for a deck quote for my back yard…read more My backyard was a mess - overgrown with weeds and needed a lot of work before anything could even start. Karen was my projecg manager, handled everything seamlessly. He communicated with me every step, kept me updated and make sure the entire process was smooth. The quality of the work and labor was outstanding. The deck(trex) and the pavers walkway came out beatiful and exceeded my expectations. It is clear this team takes real pride in what they do. Definitely worth the money, and i highly recommend this compamy.

Review Update (2026)…read more I am updating my original 5-star review from a few years ago. At the time, we were very happy with our kitchen remodel and the overall experience working with Creative Design & Build. The project turned out beautifully, which is why I originally left such a positive review. Over the years, however, I noticed that one section of the flooring felt slightly soft when walking on it. At first, it did not seem serious, so we continued to live with it. Recently, the problem became worse and a section of the floor began to noticeably sink when stepped on and eventually a few edges of the flooring broke. At that point, I became concerned that it could become a safety issue. Because we still had plenty of spare flooring boards left over from the project, I attempted to replace the affected board myself. Unfortunately, I was unable to get the new board to fit correctly due to the locking system, and I could not restore the original board either. I then contacted Creative Design & Build for assistance. One reason I reached out was because our original project manager, Oded, had told us that if we ever had any issues, we should contact the company. I left a voicemail and later received a return call from a staff member. After I explained the situation, she said she would check with management and get back to me. A few days later, I received a text message stating that the warranty had expired and that no repairs would be covered. This was disappointing because I had never been informed that there was a four-year warranty period, nor was I able to find any reference to such a limitation in our contract. When I asked for details regarding the warranty and whether they could recommend someone to repair the issue, I did not receive any further response. There were two other issues relating to electrical and plumbing, however we decided to live with that until we had a major problem we needed fixing. I still appreciate the work that was done on our remodel years ago, and our kitchen remains a space we enjoy. However, I have been disappointed by the lack of follow-up and support when a problem arose. My advice to future customers is to make sure all warranty terms, coverage details, and expiration dates are clearly documented and understood before signing a contract.
