I cannot say enough good things about Tulip! After having a horrible experience with Legacy Cremation, I called Tulip and they took the upmost care of my loved one. They made me prepay in advance which made me worry, but what they quoted is what they charged, which was a very reasonable price! I ended up calling 3 times over the whole process and each time I talked with the same woman who was full of compassion and very helpful. What I liked most was the tracker. I could go to their website, log in and it showed me what step they were on! From start to finish it took about 2 weeks which I was very pleased with! When I went to pick up my loved one, I knew I was going to share half of the ashes with her brother, I asked for an extra Ziplock bag, but instead they split the ashes for me and included an extra container and giftbag free of charge! I had never arranged for a cremation so I had no idea where to start. I came across Tulip on a Google search then checked them here on Yelp. The reviews seemed positive so I gave them a call. From the very first moment I spoke with a representative I had a good feeling about them. The people with whom I spoke were knowledgeable, polite, and very considerate of me and my situation. Tulip was $200-$400 cheaper than the other options, which, while a positive, frankly made me wonder about the quality. I was concerned it may be some sort of mass operation without the individual, dignified attention I wanted for my mom. I soon discovered that my concerns were unfounded and Tulip's lower price did not equate to lower standards--just the opposite. Tulip was perfect in every way: The service, the people, the process. Once I filled out the online forms I never had to worry about a thing after. Tulip arranged the pickup of my mother's body, the transportation to where she was held, then to the crematorium, and finally shipping her remains to me. During this entire process, their communication was outstanding. I received email and phone updates in every phase of the process, telling me exactly where my mother's body was, where it would be going and when it would be there every step of the way. In addition, when I had a question, I was always able to reach a person who had the answer to my question. After the cremation was performed I promptly received my mother's remains, packed and boxed in a respectful, dignified manner. I cannot recommend Tulip enough. If you are reading this because you are in need of a cremation service, my condolences to you on your loss. I purchased three cremation policies from Tulip on January19, 2021 and to date (3/12/21) I have not received my welcome packages that explain how to initiate the cremation services. I have made several calls to Tulip and have emailed the sales person with no avail. At this point, I am concerned that this internet based cremation service is not what it is marketed to be. I think my next step to resolve this issue is to contact the state comptroller. I do not recommend this company and am giving it one star only because you can not rate it any lower. read more

I had saved Tulips phone number in my phone, knowing I would need it eventually. That need came very suddenly when my elderly mother passed away without warning. Tulip handled every step with care and excellent communication. They arranged for a mortuary transportation service to pickup within two hours and kept me informed by email every few days of every step as they waited for paperwork and cremation, and called to make sure we received the ashes. I was very impressed with the attention to detail and constant updates. I never had to wonder what was happening because they kept in touch. This is a fraud of a company. My father passed away on 1/1 unexpectedly. Today, is the 4th. I decided to use Tulip thinking the process would be easy. It has been a nightmare. I filled up all the paperwork online and paid them. They use a service called ASD - Answering Service Director- to take their calls. I have called about ten times and I still can't get through to tulip. They told me someone would get back to me regarding concerns I had. No one ever has. They don't even have a place to send letters. After realizing how shitty this company is, I have been requesting a refund. I doubt I'll ever get my money back. Avoid this company as they will worsen the pain you are already in! Awful communication. I did not get answers from them after my Mom was sent to the Coroner so I called the Coroner directly. The next person I finally got to call me back from Tulip, ( not the guy who was to call me back multiple times), chastised me for calling and talking to an officer at the Medical Examiner's office. I had to identify my Mom via a photo and urged the woman at Tulip to send the paperwork separately from the photo as I needed to print the paperwork at my job and I needed my Husband to help me get through the identification process. She did not. When I opened the attachment to to get the paperwork there was the photo of my frozen Mom. F*cking brutal moment as I am alone in my office! They continually lead me to believe the process was moving smoothly but it was nothing but that. It even had me questioning if I could trust that the ashes I was to receive would belong to my Mom's body! The casual apology was definitely not enough. read more

Stay away from this place. Your loved one is treated like a car at a used car lot. The first contact takes the money and lies and says "call me if you any questions". When you call you speak to a different person every time. I was checking on information to make sure the death certificate was correct so I did not submit the form and some idiot submitted it for me. I had to yell at her to get her to make the form available for me. The so called supervisor is as incompetent as the rest of the staff. Lie after lie. I was told by Sheri that the body is tagged and that tag is attached to the ashes and the number appears on the death cert. I received the certs and the tag number is no where to be found. I call and get the "oh different states have different rules". Not my problem. Maybe this hell hole should focus on one state only. Nothing but problems during a stressful time already. Unless you hate the deceased, stay away from this place. I gave this place a chance to fix the issues I was concerned with and it was a nightmare. I asked if the crematory was in San Diego and again, another lie. The body was cremated in Lake Elsinore, CA. Again, they people here can't tell the truth to save their lives. When you are faced with the death of a loved one there's so much that's overwhelming to deal with and it's just amazing to have a service like Tulip Cremation there to help you through it. Its a price better than anything out there with all the same services as a local mortuary but half the cost and no need to step foot in a funeral home. UPD: After hospices at home team involved in situation, Tulip Cremation fixed an error and call to let me know about it. So I added one more star. I lost my mom and dad last month in 2 days apart. I thought it was worst experience in my life. However, Tulip cremation shows me that there is more hell. They put wrong date on my mom's paperwork. I noticed it and notified Tulip, asking to fix an error. First, they are arguing that it was my mistake, because that is the day they received, I said that have copies of paperwork with DOD from the day mom passed away and body was taken to their care. After series of e-mails they change the date in my father's document, putting wrong DOD for him as well. Then finally fixed both records. I electronically signed and send it back. Next day I got a call from Care team councilor Megan, explaining that wrong date provided by doctor, they already reported it to state and will not be able to fix, so I have to sign record with incorrect date to proceed with cremation. I said that I'm not going to commit a fraud signing false statement and they needed first of all contact all parties about discrepancies prior to send information. Also, they have to contact doctor and to fix record on all levels. Next conversation was total absurdity. Tulip informed that doctor refused to help, that they are not going to perform cremation until I sign paperwork with given date and there is no way to resolve it. Instead of grief I have to deal with unprofessional, not caring people, they cannot even pronounce mom's name ("something with L initial"). I feel stressed, desperate and frustrated, cannot sleep, cannot keep my routine. And I still do not have resolution of the problem. My only hope is hospiece-at-home service company that are trying to help and calling them as well. I do not recommend that service to anyone and hope there will be consequences for people not performing their duty. read more

Unfortunately, this put me in an extremely stressful situation because I did not have money for a funeral or a crematorium right before Christmas. Tulip picked up my mother's remain from her memory care facility. They kept us current with each step of the process and delivered her ashes to our home. All for the price of $713, much less than 1/2 of what funeral homes wanted to charge. read more

Tulip Cremation did exactly what they promised--pick up my brother's body from the coroner's, pay the county fee for transport from the hospital to the coroner's office, cremate his body, and deliver the cremated remains to my home (via USPS at my option), packaged in a sturdy plastic bag in a sturdy cardboard box, in a timely manner, with clear communications at every step, all for $650 plus the coroner's transport fee (varies from county to county), billed to my credit card. The only extras, spelled out in advance, were that coroner's fee and getting official copies of the death certificate, which they also handled. My only additional expense was the urn, which I got through Walmart for $70 with free shipping--brass, with a screw-on lid, made in India (hint: cheaper urns don't have screw on lids). I was able to get my brother's ashes into this urn without having to open the plastic bag that came from Tulip, though it took a while to coax the bag through the narrowed neck of the urn. (you can see it at https://www.walmart.com/ip/Brass-Cremation-Urn-Large-190-Pounds-Bronze-Gold-Classic-Engraving-Sold-Separately/321687468 ) I now sits on our piano. Tulip also provided sympathetic interactions with them via phone and email. None of this sidesteps or precludes having a memorial for your loved one or even a full-blown funeral with a photo of your loved one in their prime of life--better, IMO, than a viewable corpse of your loved one at the end. What does a traditional funeral home do for you that a service like Tulip Cremation does not? Embalming, caskets, ornate burials. How does that honor your loved one more than the cremation route and a no-frills cremation service? Have a wake, a memorial, a service at your church if you belong to one. Share memories of your loved one's life and his/her impact on others. That's what honors them, not products (caskets) and observances that mostly serve to display the wealth and position of the family. Take the ten or twenty thousand or more that you'd spend going that route and apply it to your favorite charity in your loved one's name, if you have the means. We live in a condo complex. We'll be renting the clubhouse for a day and have our memorial/wake there. I should add that I benefited greatly from Yelp in this process. My brother died on March 2, 2018, taking me by surprise--though, in retrospect, I shouldn't have been surprised. It was the culmination of his lifelong struggle with alcoholism. He'd been doing better for half a year, then had a relapse, wandered out of his apartment into a rainy night for reasons I'll never know (he still has several bottles of beer in the apartment), fell on the sidewalk in front of his place, hit his head, got bleeding on the brain, and was brain dead by the time the cops found him lying there. He had signed an organ donor card, but his organs were too pickled to be usable. My only personal income is a small Social Security check. I'd given no thought to the fact that when and if he died (he was younger than me), if I was still around, dealing with his death would be up to me. He had no other living family, apart from a first cousin in her 70s, 600 miles away. I wound up spending a week cleaning out his apartment as a favor to his landlord, who'd been very understanding about my brother's periodic binges. I found Tulip Cremation via Yelp, had some trepidation due to the business being essentially a startup, but the handful of reviews were glowing and seemed authentic, so I took a chance. Glad I did. Don't let anyone try to gult trip you into using an old-style funeral home. As I said, you'll honor your loved one by sharing fond memories of him or her, not by spending money on the dead. Never use this so called service. The family care counselor Cathy is beyond incompetent and has no idea what she is talking about. They left our family member at the Coroner's office for over a week even though we had signed the contract and paid already. We thought they already took care of him but no we found out he was still there with no plans to pick up. It's all about money for them they will leave your family member there so it saves them money just until they are ready to cremate. It was an awful process all the way around. But after many confusing phone conversations, and attempts at filling out the form online, I opted not to sign up. I was discouraged not to go with this company by the actual employee. I was on the phone with the woman, as she walked me through the online process. At every turn, there was a problem, from the way my address would be recorded, to the description of the services, to the information I was required to provide. Finally, after expressing my dismay, the woman actually suggested that I "may not be a good fit for us". She agreed with me that the website was not set up well, and that I would be signing and paying for something I hadn't completed details about yet. I didn't see any place that confirmed where my ashes would be sent. She said I had to complete the payment process first. And the website couldn't get my address right. Anyway, after she suggested I wasn't a good fit for their services, I agreed. She lost my business. I'm sure the company won't be too happy about that. read more

About 3 years ago my dad had a health emergency and went into a nursing home in Los Gatos. Thinking ahead, I set up an account for him with Tulip. He finally passed away a few weeks ago. The nursing home called Tulip and they called me within a few minutes. They took care of everything and let me know step by step what was going on. It's not a simple process. The doctor has to determine cause of death and take care of the death certificate. The health department is involved also. When it was taken care of they shipped the package to me, and it arrived the next day. It took a little while to get the death certificates, but they finally arrived.
