Let me start off by saying that I have multiple chronic health issues that keep me from being out in the public much during this pandemic. I unfortunately recently broke a piece off of my molar and had to give in and make a dentist appointment. I have a tendency to avoid dentistry due to a dental phobia, so I went to this office in hopes of receiving sedation dentistry in a professional (and sanitary) setting. I called when I arrived (as I didn't want to take any unnecessary health risks) to ask to be alerted when my appointment began so I would not have to sit in the waiting room, and the receptionist snarkily informed me that pandemic restrictions had been eased--and that they would not come out to get me. She then tried to argue with me that cell service was spotty, so they wouldn't call me in my car either. This was despite the fact that I was on the phone with her with a GREAT signal from the actual parking lot. It was pretty empty, so I gave in and went inside a couple of minutes early. The office was filled with religious paraphernalia, which I found a little strange for a dentist office but not super unusual for the South. Then I turned the corner to see two receptionists wearing NO masks. Ironically, they took my temperature and then told me to sit in the waiting room. I mulled over the tiny list of possible scenarios where being maskless would be acceptable, and this situation qualified for none of them. I sat for a total of 3 minutes in the waiting room before deciding I wasn't going to put up with this in a medical establishment. I walked out and called to cancel. I told them why, and they had the nerve to ask if I wanted to reschedule!

I had a cardiac event in 2004, and was taken to Piedmont hospital. I was released without treatment, due to my being 28 years old at the time. I was still having complications, and a friend of mine suggested that I call Dr. Bledsoe. That turned out to be a life saving decision. Dr. Bledsoe is an amazing doctor. He listens, he takes his time, and he is genuinely concerned with the welfare of his patients. Thanks to him, I was able to make it to my 50th birthday, which would never have happened without his early diagnosis. Dr. Bledsoe, I want to thank you genuinely for being the angel on earth that you are. First I was surprised to be told that Dr. Fowler would be seeing me, rather than Dr. Coakley, for a crown prep. He administered 2 numbing shots. Moments later I began to have accelerated heart rate, shaking, and disorientation. Then I realized I must have been given the shot that included epinephrine. I asked Dr. Fowler and he said "yep." I asked if he had read my chart clearly stating to NOT use epinephrine due to my severe reaction to it. He said, "nope, sorry." Then I asked Cat, the dental assistant, who has assisted Dr. Coakley for most of my visits, if she had reviewed my chart prior to the procedure. She said, "no, it didn't come up on the screen, must be a systems glitch." My experience was further compromised by the follow up text from Dr. Fowler, "chill out and don't overthink my error." I just wish I could be saying that someone cared about me, their patient, as opposed to defending themselves. This office is no longer safe or competent for me. I share this as caution to make sure your every doctor both looks at your chart and speaks with you before proceeding. As my surgeon friend said, had they cared an ounce for my well being it just wouldn't have been so horrifying and painful.
