So happy to welcome this delicious Indian restaurant to town. This new dining place was fairly busy when we arrived at 5:30. Word was that their cocktails are amazing but we were not feeling like drinking so we went straight for food. The starter of roasted chick peas, and various chutneys was complimentary. We both loved our entrees with medium spice. The eggplant bharta was a perfect combination of fire roasted eggplant slow cooked with peas and onions in a very flavorful sauce. The lamb vindaloo had plenty of lamb and the sauce was easily soaked up by the naan . Shout out to Angie our hardworking waitress. We love Indian food and are so happy to have a local place to satisfy our yen for spicy Indian cuisine.

Delicious food. Meat was perfectly cooked. I got the chicken tikka, lamb kabab, and rice pudding. Chicken samosas was also wonderful.

But if you can deal with some comforts being absent (nice lighting, cool building, impeccable design), then you are likely in for a good meal. I came for the spring dosa. Dosa are crepe-like South Indian creations that I find best when they are thin, long and crispy. So the ones at Naatiya were a touch thicker than I like, definitely gigantic, and mostly crispy around the edges. However, I should note the thickness was important because Naatiya generally stuffs their dosas as compared to any other Indian restaurant I've been to in the United States. Frankly, they were even more stuffed than the ones I've eaten at home. What is in the stuffing of a spring dosa? Well, I hope you love potatoes because that is going to be the main answer. These potatoes are stir fried in a slightly spicy masala and paired with onions and tomatoes. It's a little more involved than your standard masala dosa. What comes with your dosa? In this case, you get two small sides of coconut chutney and tomato chutney. I would have been thrilled with an extra side of the coconut chutney but didn't ask. Also, you get a bowl of sambar which I think is best described as a traditional spicy vegetable curry prominently featuring Indian cucumber. It's great and I usually pair it with idli (which is also on the menu at Naatiya). I didn't ask for a side of gunpowder (a ground mix of various spices and beans) that I usually use for dosa because I saw that was an entirely different order at Naatiya. That said, I'll probably see if they are willing to provide some of it on a future order as it really adds an entirely new dimension to the dosa experience. TL:DR - you can get dosa here and it's great. Go for casual Indian food.

There not a lot if decor either. The music is authentic and they play Indian MTV. The immediately start you out either a beer pitcher of water. For my drink, I'm having a Limca (you just grab it out of the cooler). Limca is an Indian multinational brand of lemon- and lime-flavoured carbonated soft drink made primarily in India and certain parts of the U.S. It contains 60 calories per 150ml can. The formula does not include fruit, relying instead on artificial flavours. In an interview in 2008, Ramesh Chauhan of Parle Bisleri revealed that he had approached the owners of Duke's Lemonade, requesting them to share the formula for the drink with the promise not to make it in India, which was turned down. Chauhan decided to come up with his own formula, which he launched under the Limca brand in 1977. In 1992, when the Indian government allowed Coca-Cola to return for operations, at the same time as it admitted Pepsi for the first time, Coca-Cola bought local soft-drink (soda) brands, from Parle Bisleri owner Ramesh Chauhan including Limca, Thums Up (a cola-like drink), Maaza (a mango-juice based drink), Citra (a clear lemon-lime drink), and Gold Spot (orange flavour). Prior to 1988, the original formula of Limca contained brominated vegetable oil (BVO). After worldwide reports of ill effects of BVO, its use in soft drinks was banned in India. As a result of this ban, the formula for Limca was changed. This is good (artificially flavored or not). For my soup, I'm having the Chicken Hot and Sour (spicy). This is a popular Indo-Chinese soup made with mixed vegetables, mushrooms, soy sauce, herbs and spices. It has a balanced taste that is spicy, tangy and hot. The soup is usually thickened lightly and flavored with ingredients like ginger, garlic, vinegar and pepper. This is good! It's not too salty. It's hot and spicy. Lots of chicken too (it's small chunks and at the bottom). Ceramic plates and metal silverware. That's a good sign! For my appetizer, I'm having the Chicken Makai Kebabs. Otherwise known as Reshmi kebab, this is [technically] a Pakistani dish of boneless chicken marinated in spices, cream, and cashew paste, and then grilled in a tandoor. The name "reshmi" translates to "silk" and describes the kebab's tender, silky texture. Some recipes use ground chicken and cream cheese to achieve this silky texture, creating a "seekh" kebab instead of a "boti" kebab. Indians make it a lot too. This is a LOT to eat! It's steaming hot! It takes a while to cook so be patient. The spices are defining unusual. I like the Indian version of cole slaw too as a side dish except they use of onion. It's crunchy. Yummy! There is a new place opening up across the mall called Sakura Haven. The new venue plans to feature an anime theme with cosplay, a live DJ, karaoke, and other themed entertainment events. Signs were recently installed at their new space. Sakura Haven has been operating as a pop-up at various bar around Connecticut. The new venue is their first physical location. For my entree, I'm having the Chicken Madras. Chicken Madras is a flavorful, spicy, and tangy Indian curry originating from the southern region of India and the city of Chennai, formerly known as Madras. The dish features chicken in a rich tomato-based sauce made with a unique blend of Madras curry powder, which is a mixture of South Indian herbs and spices. The curry is known for its heat, which comes from chili peppers or paprika, and its tangy, citrusy notes. I'm told they use coconut here. You can add naan but I don't eat a lot of bread. This is steaming hot! I love this sauce! It's not very spicy but I like it! What a great meal here!

What really shocked me was that the prices on my bill were not the same as the prices on the menu. Entrees were $1.50 more and sides were $1.00 higher. No mention of it on the menu, by the server, or posted anywhere in the restaurant. Not huge differences - 6 to 15% increases, but I feel a bit ripped off to be shown one price and charged another. I know the restaurant reserves the right to change prices at any time without notice. I reserve the right to go somewhere else.

If you are in the area, or even if your not, and you want quality Indian that is off blue back square - this is your place. The only downside for us was the curry. There was parking in front but that plaza was fairly busy so the doors were all taken. Inside is decorated well if not slightly dated. There was one server was preparing portions of papad. He gestured us to sit at any open table. He was very attentive after he finished his task, but the initial interaction was very casual. We opted for the momo, a chicken madras, some poori for dipping, pashwari naan for dessert, and a chicken kebab for extra protein. Food came out quick, sat down and dug in. The momo, chicken kebab, and poori were great. Fresh, prepped well and flavorful. The momo were a highlight, made in house and although loose in the filling were seasoned and tasty. The chicken kebabs had little crisp bits of char which worked with the perfectly cooked chicken. And the Marsala sauce on the side was punchy and creamy. Even the pashwari naan was filled with a wonderful fig and cardamom filling but also toasted in salted butter to give it that salty crisp bite. The only bad bite was the curry. Overcooked chicken, no spice and one note. It was a massive disappointment from the rest of the meal. Price was reasonable, cheaper than the high end Indian places but not a bargain. Meal came out to $65, and the only thing not worth the money was the curry. I feel that they purposefully held back on spices because of our appearance, but there wasn't even salt. Never the less, the food here is of a very high caliber. The service is great, and the interior is decorated well. It's worth a try, and maybe a trek if you want momo.

Ordered both lunch specials and a pani puri to try their take. Food came out reasonably quick. Server was a little hovery so we couldn't talk about the dishes as we ate them. Lead to some awkward moments. The dosa lunch was good. Very much different types of bread and sauces to dip them.none of the sauces had a lot of spice or flavor, which was a letdown. The fried bread was very savory, and the steamed bread was like a masa bread which was a good sauce sponge. Just needed more flavor. The northern Indian lunch was more similar to other dishes we had. The carb being rice and the curries with a bit more body to them. Still lacking spice, but not bad. The carrot and cardamom sugar dessert was a tad too sweet. Needed to tamper the raw sugar flavor down a bit to let the carrot and cardamom flavors play off each other rather than both getting obliterated by sugar. The dosa was fun, the peas and mashed potato were bland, but the crispy dosa had a cheesy like crisp to it which was nice. Price was cheap, everything came out to around 25 bucks. I would hope for more flavor out of these style of dishes, but it was okay for the money.
