Chicken Tikka Masala & Garlic Nan
Sara K.

We ordered take out from Little India on a cold winter day looking for something to heat us up. The phone service was nice, efficient, yet patient when we asked questions. I ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala, medium spice, which was spicier than I expected. It was okay, not the best I've had and didn't contain very much flavor. My boyfriend had the Lamb Vindaloo, which he thought was very flavorful and loved the spice level. All-in-all my favorite part of the meal was the Garlic Naan and dipping sauces. It definitely satisfied my craving for a warm, comforting meal. But I don't think I'd go out of my way to order from here again.

I had a gift certificate for months if not couple of years. My daughter and I finally decided to try this place. We love Indian food and eat it quite often, so I had my expectations. The interior is very 80's but honestly it doesn't matter to me. Food is what I want, good food. The woman at the front counter was very nice and attentive. We ordered vegetable and meat samosa of the appetizer menu and they tasted ok, but the pastry was bit too oily. Main course I had the typical chicken tikka Masala and I must say in my 30 years of eating Indian food this was the first time I had one taste this way. I ate but didn't enjoy it, and half way through I lost interest in my food. My daughter said her dish was good-chicken vindaloo, I had a fork full but again felt dish was not very exciting. I feel bad, I want them to do well as this area needs an Indian restaurant. Perhaps the owners can cook smaller amounts but serve fresh exciting cuisine. They need to visit a good place in NYC and speak with owners ask for advise/help to bring this place back. I don't care for the look of the place if food is good but perhaps they can brighten this place up. Remove the dated wallpaper border, paint a nice fresh color, remove the tired tablecloth and use traditional Indian cloth instead under the glass, or nothing at all. Good Luck! Wishing you well.

Love this place. Best Indian food in the area. Their baingan bharta is spectacular, as is their chicken vindaloo.

We went back on the weekend to try the buffet and that was so fun to really try all the different things they have to offer. 3.75 stars. It's probably best to go into Naatiya with appropriate expectations. If you are…read morelooking for a super fancy upscale place then you should look elsewhere. But if you can deal with some comforts being absent (nice lighting, cool building, impeccable design), then you are likely in for a good meal. I came for the spring dosa. Dosa are crepe-like South Indian creations that I find best when they are thin, long and crispy. So the ones at Naatiya were a touch thicker than I like, definitely gigantic, and mostly crispy around the edges. However, I should note the thickness was important because Naatiya generally stuffs their dosas as compared to any other Indian restaurant I've been to in the United States. Frankly, they were even more stuffed than the ones I've eaten at home. What is in the stuffing of a spring dosa? Well, I hope you love potatoes because that is going to be the main answer. These potatoes are stir fried in a slightly spicy masala and paired with onions and tomatoes. It's a little more involved than your standard masala dosa. What comes with your dosa? In this case, you get two small sides of coconut chutney and tomato chutney. I would have been thrilled with an extra side of the coconut chutney but didn't ask. Also, you get a bowl of sambar which I think is best described as a traditional spicy vegetable curry prominently featuring Indian cucumber. It's great and I usually pair it with idli (which is also on the menu at Naatiya). I didn't ask for a side of gunpowder (a ground mix of various spices and beans) that I usually use for dosa because I saw that was an entirely different order at Naatiya. That said, I'll probably see if they are willing to provide some of it on a future order as it really adds an entirely new dimension to the dosa experience. TL:DR - you can get dosa here and it's great. Go for casual Indian food.

She was thankful everything was pretty mild. A highlight of the buffet was for sure the hot and sour soup. I must have had four helpings. The restaurant filled up pretty quickly and it was totally serve yourself (besides the naan) which was fine by me. I actually prefer that. We will definitely be back to sample more items. Hopefully an eggplant dish since that is what I usually gravitate towards at Indian buffets. Thank you Avon Indian Grill!

They have been consistently delicious. The food is full of flavor and it's definitely the best Indian food around here. The customer service is always great too. They also offer all you can eat buffet on Sundays, which I have not done yet, but plan to. A few of my favorite dishes are, chicken vindaloo, chicken curry, chicken jafrezi, and chicken tikka masala, wow, I guess I like chicken lol. Their gobu manchurian, which is cauliflower fried in spicy and tangy sauce is so delightful. The only constructive criticism is, the portions while dining in the restaurant versus takeout is different; they offer more when you dine in, from my experience. I won't detract any stars because the food is that good. It's located in a small plaza with plenty of parking. Getting in and out of the plaza was easy since there is a traffic light. The restaurant interior is cozy and clean. Overall, a great spot for Indian food and definitely my favorite around here.

As someone…read morefrom South India, it is rare to find food that actually tastes like home--but this place nails it. The kind of food that makes you pause mid-bite and just nod. The space is small and simple--people are here for one reason only: serious, no-nonsense deliciousness. Alex, Siva, and the team are fantastic--super welcoming and always happy to guide you. They even offer two spice styles (American and Indian), each with mild, medium, and spicy. Choose wisely... or bravely. The usual dishes like tikka masala are great, but the real magic is in the South Indian menu. If you are not sure what to order, just ask--they will not steer you wrong. We have also started ordering catering for parties, and let me tell you--nothing validates food like a room full of very judgmental Indian relatives going back for seconds and thirds. At our last event, the quiet "this is really good" nods said everything. We ordered chicken Chettinad, salmon curry, aloo gobi, goat biryani, and garlic naan--every single dish was outstanding. The only tragedy? Not enough leftovers for the next day. And do not skip the filter coffee. One sip, eyes closed, and you are instantly transported home, even if it's for a little while. Moringa team--keep doing exactly what you are doing. Love it!!

I liked that they had an actual drink menu with classics whiskey, vodka, and other regular cocktails. I almost ordered a pomegranate whiskey sour but decided not to drink tonight. Instead I got a pineapple juice drink that was really refreshing. We kept it pretty simple with chicken tikka masala and garlic naan (which I forgot to take pictures of), and it was good. Nothing over-the-top, but definitely enjoyable. I also went a little out of my comfort zone and ordered the pepper shrimp in a coconut sauce. That ended up being my favorite. It was really good, and I'd definitely order that again. Our waiter was very kind. There was a slight language barrier, but he was so patient and still explained things to us. I even learned that the traditional clay oven a lot of Indian dishes are cooked in is called a tandoor. Overall, a really nice dinner. I love Indian food, and I'd go back.

There was a noodle shop right next door that was okay, and we wanted to give this new place a try as well. The inside is sparse and still rough with construction. The space use to be a açaí bowl location, and they still had some of the signs and decor from that location here. There's also some ripped up flooring and exposed piping in the middle of the floor. Don't plan on dining in unless you can handle some rough corners. The chef/owner was nice but shy, the wife was much more extroverted and very kind. The chef took the order, the wife took care of the interactions and check ins. Missus really enjoyed interfacing with the lady, she enjoys supporting the local businesses that go in with passion. We got the chicken 65, samosa chaat, and chicken khorma. Food came out steadily, and we dug in. The samosa chaat was good. Spiced lightly, but good flavor. The samosa was slightly cold in the middle, but the flavors were there. The chicken 65 was also lightly seasoned but the chicken crisp and tender. Needed a dipping sauce to impart some extra spice. The portion was large and well done. The chicken khorma was great. Tender chicken thigh with a nutty creamy sauce with a little spice. The highlight of our meal. We also got naan, garlic and peshwari. The garlic was good, very garlic forward but the naan seemed to be very thin. There was a lot of rips and holes through the 4 pieces we got. We also got the peahwari naan, which was little light on the filling but has the right flavors. Pricing was reasonable, especially given the quality vs the portion. It's not a dine-in location as of yet, but the food is perfect for to-go. It's good Indian done well, needs to work on the spice level of their dishes but it's ideal for those who don't like heat.
