I have difficulty finding shops that are knowledgeable about and experienced with Toyota trucks…read more But over the years I've learned to use Western Transmission for driveline work. They've rebuilt a 4Runner rear differential that a different local shop botched, and they've installed several CV axles, also in 4Runners. As a loyal Toyota owner for almost 40 years, I've learned to use only OEM Toyota parts, which I purchase from authorized dealers. WT is the only shop in Idaho Falls that I can find that will install these parts. So I use WT exclusively for driveline work (which is all they do). Prices are reasonable, and the work is done well. Randy, the knowledgeable fellow at the front desk, understands the OEM part issue I face as a Toyota owner, and has been accommodating. Western Transmission has been better than any dealership shop I've used in four decades.

To me it seemed like a transmission problem so I started looking for a transmission shop. There weren't many choices in the area of Wyoming I was in. Someone recommended Western Transmission in Idaho Falls. I called the shop at 4:45 in the afternoon and reached Cory. Told him my situation and he said they are booked solid, but he can't leave stranded" and got me in the next day. Dropped the vehicle of getting ready to drop some big cash for a transmission. Got a call later in the day and Cory informed me it wasn't the transmission, it was another part of the drivetrain. They got the parts needed and did the repair. They had me on my way in 3 days! I paid under what I expected, even though it was a different issue. Western Transmission's service was excellent. If you ever need transmission service in the Idaho Falls or Western Wyoming area check them out.

Less than a week later they had the vehicle up and running and for less than the original estimate. The second was a repair job. After quoting the job to replace an assembly of solenoids , I got a call back and was told that the transmission was different than what the book showed and that they'd be able to replace the faulty solenoid instead of the whole assembly for less than what they had originally quoted, but I was also informed that it might be the computer instead. The error codes were inconclusive. We proceeded with the repair, but 4 weeks later had the same problem. Took it in and they replaced the computer and it is running fine. They stood behind their work and didn't bicker with me after I brought the car back in. They just took care of the problem. Two days later I was on the road again. They were very straight forward and honest about the costs and options available. I had gotten quotes from a lot of shops on the first vehicle, and they were right in line with the other quotes. Furthermore, when it was all said and done, the total cost was less than any of the other quotes I had received. They've earned my trust and my future business.

The owner never listened to what I had to say and kept charging us for small fixes, when I knew it needed a replacement transmission. Once he finally said it was the transmission ( duh! ) he still never fixed all the issues. After spending several thousands for the transmissions, the van is still missing gears at times. Then I just got to filing the paperwork and noticed (my mistake for not paying attention at the time - we paid with a cc over the phone and the paperwork was finished by the time my husband picked it up) that he charged me $ 100 for towing. He never had to tow the van, we drove it in each time it was in the shop. Please DO NOT EVER USE THIS PLACE! They are a rip off and the issue will never be resolved.

The solution, call Marlin. He's done exceptional work on my cars and those of my friends for many years. I've called on a Friday at quitting time with a bad fuel pump and Marlin called me back just before noon Saturday to say he had it fixed cheaper than originally anticipated. I challenge any other repair service to show up on a day off to drop a full tank of gas and replace the pump faster than the shop manual calls for. I have been an industrial mechanic 20 plus years and admit to having a few tools..somewhere in with the shoes. I can usually even change blinker bearings without asking for Marlins help over the phone. But I'm not an auto mechanic and even tho I can strip a wood screw just like a pro, I have confidence in my friend Marlin "goon" Jones and his team to keep my cars and trucks going and stopping the way they were before I tried kicking the radio to get the wipers going. It takes alor to hand over your keys. It is not often enough these days that you can trust implicitly. Trust Marlins Mechanix. I do, Joe S. Idaho falls 96 bronco and many others..

I was told I needed a wheel alignment and agreed to have that done since there was one car on the rack and I was next. Four hours later the car was ready. As I was getting in the car, I saw a greasy hand print on the light colored fabric on the drivers seat. My radio station had been switched and no more than a block away my check engine light came on. I returned to Grease Monkey where I stayed for another hour as they tried to figure out what happened. After over an hour and no one making eye contact, a tech came out to tell me all of the screws in my air box were stripped and a new one would be ordered. They said they would order a new one and call me. I called the store mid week and asked if it was ordered and they said no. Was going to get ordered, I asked. We're talking about it was the reply. So, after five hours in their waiting room, over $250 spent, I have a car with a check engine light on, stained upholstery and a ruined airbox and the 4th of July weekend coming up. Things happen, but the lack of respect Grease Monkey has shown me as a customer and my car is unacceptable and disappointing.
